I'm doing my own alterations which aren't much. I used to work in fashion as a technical designer/pattern maker. After trying on dresses at a real bridal company and saw their tactic of ordering a dress one size too big so they can charge you more to make it fit you like a glove and altering it, I decided to go a different route. I had hoped to make my own wedding dress like my mom had done, but my situation didn't allow that space for me. So I went to a bridal/prom dress shop in DTLA where they had all the sizes. I found the perfect dress and my size fit me like a glove, it is just a bit too long. I bought heals so I don't have to trim as much off of it, but with the material as it is, I just have to cut off the bottom and only the bottom layer needs to be hemmed. I haven't decided if I'm going to bustle the back, but I feel fortunate enough to know how to do this stuff myself and not spend so much money on alterations. It's a racket in the wedding industry.
