Our wedding on November 30, 2024 was beyond perfect at The George Washington Hotel. The amount of care and attention to every detail was simply perfection. Months of planning to get to the finish line and have no hiccups or issues was so very greatly appreciated! Kirstie is such a blessing and ensured that no stone was left unturned. Aaron and I could not be more grateful with how everything turned out. We absolute the right choice for our ceremony and reception venue. Thank you for making our wedding so perfect and for giving us so many beautiful memories that we will cherish for a lifetime.

We have stayed at this hotel several times, and our last visit was to host our daughter’s wedding. Every experience exceeded our expectations. The wedding was perfect! The staff went above and beyond to make the wedding so special. The staff was courteous and attentive to every detail. I can’t recommend this hotel highly enough, whether you need a weekend getaway or you want to host a special event.

Rachel was so amazing to help us plan our day! The hotel was so accountable and workable and so special to make us have the day we imagined! We are so glad we had our day with yall it truly was magical vintage day like we wanted!

Working with two different contacts over a year-long period, we could not have been more pleased with our experience at The George Washington. Most communication was by email, as we live in Texas and our daughter's wedding was in Berryville, VA. We needed to have not only a room block, but special requests for our elderly parents who were making the trip. We also had a coordinated event in the Half-Note Lounge the evening before the wedding to welcome our guests with Champagne and desserts (highly recommend the brownies!). Each aspect was handled professionally, timely, and with respect and courteous compassion to accommodate our needs. Special S/O to Rachel Thomas, our main contact, and Maryin at the front desk, as well as Rich and Will in the lounge, who even though seemed a bit surprised at the gathering taking place, went above and beyond to take care of us. It was one of our favorites parts of the weekend!

Rachel was very responsive and excellent to work with. The venue is absolutely stunning! The food is delicious. It was everything we dreamed of in a wedding and more!

We had a wonderful experience with the GW. Kendra is awesome! We had a unique wedding and they were always working something in to make it happen. We hope to never get married again...lol...but we would recommend their services! Prices are very comparable and in some areas much more affordable compared to other venues.

This venue is an incredibly elegant historic hotel nestled in quaint downtown Winchester, Virginia with easy access to Washington DC just over an hour away.
My son and his bride had to delay their 'big city' reception due to Covid. They decided to proceed with a small wedding ceremony on their original date. In the meantime we hustled to book a spot for an intimate dinner reception with all of the bells and whistles for 15 people. The George Washington Hotel swooped in and saved the day. They provided a very affordable room with an adjoining patio. Their staff were incredibly friendly and timely with all of their suggestions and responses. The menu offerings were plentiful and the appetizers and food were superb...and we are discerning eaters. At the last minute, due to continued Covid restrictions per our Governor, we were no longer permitted to use the small room. Once again, the GW quickly accommodate us in their ballroom, since it happened to be available on that date. This room could easily hold a large wedding. The bride and groom stayed the night in a King Suite and enjoyed drinks in the beautiful bar just outside of the ballroom after everyone else left for the night. They also have a nice restaurant on the premises. Who needs a 'big city' wedding when you can book at The George Washington Hotel?

From the start, the George Washington Hotel was an easy choice for us to make to secure our wedding venue. When we had to postpone our wedding from May to November, the venue was nothing but flexible and understanding. Everyone was very responsive, nearly almost always a same day response was received! Although COVID precautions were in place during our wedding ceremony and reception, everything turned out just as I have envisioned. We were glad that masks were required and appropriate social distancing measures were taken to ensure everyone felt safe and comfortable! We have heard from many family members how comfortable they felt and how nice it was to be able to have such a beautiful wedding during such a crazy time. I would 100% recommend Kendra and The George Washington Hotel to anyone looking to work with great people at a beautiful venue!

There are not enough wonderful things I can say about the staff and the George Washington Hotel. If you want a wedding venue that will put your needs and interest first, this is the place for you. Although the covid situation and travel restrictions caused our wedding to be canceled, Jane and Amy treated us with the care and concern shown throughout the entire 6 months we worked together. The venue is beautiful, food is top shelf and the service was impeccable. And yes all this is true without even having our event! I dream of what it would have been. You however, can make it happen! Please check out this incredible wedding venue!

I cannot say enough wonderful things about the GW! From the moment we decided to reschedule our spring wedding Amy, Jane, and Emily went above and beyond. They were kind, flexible, and demonstrated impeccable customer service. Our experience was so refreshing and for that they have earned a customer for life. I cannot wait to work with them in 2021 to make our dream wedding a reality!

I cannot say enough good things about Jane and the entire team at the George Washington Hotel! With COVID-19, we had to postpone our larger reception since a majority of our guests were traveling from out of state. In just a few short weeks, Jane was able to help us plan a perfect dinner reception for our immediate families. We visited the hotel to see the various rooms and ultimately decided on the ballroom. It provided the perfect amount of space for our families to spread out, but still felt intimate and our small group did not feel lost in the space. Jane helped by providing some sample floor plans that are in line with the current state guidelines. The food was FANTASTIC - it really was the best wedding food any of us have ever had- and the team there that night made sure everything ran smoothly. As soon as the groom and I walked in, they made sure to check in with us and got us a drink to relax and celebrate. They were able to accommodate some severe food allergies and even made a quick change to a dessert so another guest could enjoy it as well. We also hosted a breakfast the next morning before our families traveled home and that was fantastic as well. The staff also made my niece's day when they saved her flower girl bouquet that was left in a water glass at night and gave it back to her the next morning.
I could go on and on about how attentive and professional all of the staff was from booking hotel rooms for our guests, to dinner and breakfast. I cannot thank you all enough for helping a stressed-out, anxious bride plan a whole second wedding in just a few weeks!

Jane, Emily, Amy and the rest of the team at The George Washington Hotel are the DREAM TEAM!! From start to finish, our experience at the hotel was wonderful. When looking for a venue, we were looking for a location that offered a place for all of our wedding activities in one location, so that our out of town guests did not have far to travel and this hotel did not disappoint! It truly is a one stop shop for the perfect wedding weekend. We were able to host our room block, welcome reception, ceremony, cocktail hour and reception all at this beautiful historic venue! The hotel is located in the beautiful downtown area in Winchester, which offered our guests a multitude of dining, restaurant and shopping options all within walking distance of the hotel! Working with Jane on the details for the wedding was so easy! She is always prepared and knowledgeable to answer any questions that you may have as well as willing to offer helpful suggestions along the way! A true gem in the wedding planning industry! She takes care of making sure that you are able to fully enjoy the time leading up to your wedding day and the big day itself by coordinating the details with the hotel and vendors, allowing you to spend time with your family and friends. The George Washington Hotel has truly put the right people in place in order to ensure that your wedding is the day of your dreams and that it comes off flawlessly! I cannot say enough about the care and time that the staff took with each one of my guests to help them navigate the area, provide a seamless check in or serve a fantastic meal. Jennifer our Banquet Manager checked in with us several times during the evening of the wedding to make sure that we were well taken care of and had everything that we needed! They took the time to clean up and set aside all of the elements that we provided for the wedding for easy pick up the following morning, so that it did not take away from our celebrating after the wedding was over. There were no worries or stress when it came to the set up of the ballroom, as the beauty and charm of the hotel and venue truly do shine through, which make it easy to decorate and add your own personal touches to make the space your own! Do yourself a favor and take a look at The George Washington Hotel for your wedding venue, you will not regret it!!!

When we first visited the The George Washington Hotel, we fell in love with the space right away. It had exactly the right vibe for our Versailles-themed wedding and required little additional decor besides floral arrangements. We also liked that our out of town guests could stay right there and not have to worry about transportation. The hotel rooms there were also very nice, especially the suite we stayed in the night of the wedding.

Jane and the entire staff of The George Washington Hotel went above and beyond to make our wedding day absolutely perfect! I really cannot say enough good things about them. Jane is SUCH a pleasure to work with and incredibly professional. I'm sure I drove her crazy with all the emails I sent about food choices, stickers for the seating cards, the dimensions of the mantle in the George Room for the florist, and just the most mundane details about our wedding, but she was always very responsive and helpful in answering all my questions.

Emily, who handled the reservations for our room block, was equally professional and helpful. She fielded a ridiculous amount of emails from myself and my dad and was always so polite.

The day of the wedding, the entire staff of The George Washington Hotel really brought their A game. The food and beverage service was excellent and, as we had come to expect, everyone was very friendly and professional. They helped setup the seating cards, our remembrance table, and even moved our card box to our room and setup our wedding favors. Everything ran so smoothly that day and Jane and the rest of the staff played a HUGE part in that.

We also had our rehearsal dinner at George's Food & Spirits and our morning-after breakfast was in one of the smaller meeting rooms, and both of those smaller events were absolutely perfect as well.

We're so glad that we chose to have our wedding at The George Washington Hotel and we HIGHLY recommend it!

My fiancé and I just had our wedding at the George Washington hotel and couldn't say better things about the venue, the staff and the planning team. We worked closely with Jane and Amy leading up to the event and we were so impressed with their level of professionalism. We handmade most of our decorations, customized each centerpiece and even set things up a little differently in the ballroom. Even with all of that, the team was great!

Also, our guests raved about the food and the location. Weeks later, our guests are still talking about our wedding.

As the Mother of the Bride, I knew we were hosting several dozen out of town guests. We wanted them to have the perfect place to stay during their visit to Winchester. The Parents of the Groom hosted the rehearsal dinner there as well and the whole evening was perfect. Good people who are friendly and professional work here that will attend to every detail for you, from menus to room accomodations, to AV equipment to show pictures, etc.

The venue was absolutely breathtaking and the staff was phenomenal. The staff was extremely easy to work with and they were on top of everything, making our wedding day absolutely flawless. We would recommend to anyone and everyone!

The entire staff is amazing! Everyone was so kind and understanding! They are willing to work with you and you’re designs! The hotel itself of gorgeous and beauty of its own.

After looking at nearly 30 venues in the DC metro area we ultimately chose The George Washington Hotel and it could not have been more perfect for our wedding. The other venues were missing something- whether it be a lack of rain plan or too few bathrooms for our number of guests, something was always amiss. We visited many beautiful places but the GW has the whole package. Not only was the Ballroom absolutely stunning but the staff were INCREDIBLE. We also loved the pocket garden and it’s string lights to set the mood for cocktail hour.

From the very first meeting we were impressed with the hotel and staff. Our first meeting was with Felicia, and she was wonderful at answering and humoring all of our many, many questions. She showed us packages and available dates and really talked us through the George Washington wedding experience.

The George Washington had the space to accommodate our full wedding weekend itinerary. Beginning with a rehearsal dinner and ending with a Sunday brunch buffet. Our guests never had to leave the hotel and we were able to customize everything to fit our specific tastes. We loved how we could customize every detail of our wedding weekend to make the entire weekend exactly as we had imagined.

From the point of booking with Felicia to meeting Jane to go over our wedding weekend details, we felt confident and at ease.

All of the staff we met and worked with were extremely professional, kind and helpful. We were blown away by the quality of food and portion size at our tasting (and at the wedding). And I was in awe that after the tasting when I briefly glazed over wedding ideas while talking to Jane, they were suddenly detailed at length and incorporated into our day of timeline. Jane was THAT on point that she was able to decipher my half thought out ideas and not only make them legible on paper but to write them out in the exact ways that I imagined them.

Emily was so helpful and prompt with assisting with everything and anything relating to our room block. We had over 70 guests staying in 35 rooms at the hotel and Emily was fabulous at giving me updates, swapping rooms around and ensuring that everyone got room gift bags. She was flexible, professional and when I asked 12 questions a day leading up to the last weeks before our wedding, she typically responded immediately.

We had the wedding of our dreams and it was all thanks to the George Washington Hotel, Jane, Emily, Darren, and all of the other staff who helped to make sure our entire weekend was special. We couldn’t be happier with everyone and everything. We were even happy with their recommended vendor lists. We used most of the recommendations and loved everyone that we selected!

Choosing The George Washington Hotel to host our special weekend was the best decision we made. If you’re reading a million reviews trying to select a venue like we did, do it! Pick the GW!

Choosing to have our wedding at The George Washington Hotel was the best decision we could have made. The hotel's wedding coordinator, Jane Obst, is just wonderful and it was a pleasure to have her walk us through the entire process! Our guests were blown away by the quality of the food as well as by the beauty of the space. The ballroom is breathtaking and made for excellent photos! To cap it all off, our farewell breakfast was delicious and the perfect way to say goodbye to all of our guests. We can't recommend them enough!

Overall the George Washington Hotel in Winchester Va did a wonderful job with our wedding. Their staff made the experience pleasant from the planning to the actual day of the wedding. The food was excellent. We received many compliments. Would highly recommend this venue.

This is our 3rd wedding we have hosted. We had the reception at the George Washington Wyndham Grand Hotel in Winchester. Of the 3 weddings, this was our favorite. The venue, food, bar, and service was al 5 stars. Jane is the event coordinator for the hotel. Jane and her staff did an outstanding job. All of our guests were blown away on what they experienced for the evening. Thank you George Washington Hotel for the best wedding reception I have ever been to. I just had no idea I would be the host of the best reception I have ever been to.

A perfect wedding venue! Everything about the GW is beautiful and our guests loved that they could go straight to their room after the wedding and not have to worry about taxis or car services. The staff flipped the ballroom from ceremony to reception in 45 minutes and it looked amazing! We could not have picked a better place to celebrate our big day!

We are so happy we discovered The George Washington Hotel! The whole evening was nothing short of amazing.  So many of our guests commented to us that it was the best wedding they had ever been to.  Just about everyone told us that the food was spectacular, especially the steak which was cooked "perfectly" and was "smooth like butter."  One person even told us that after putting the first bite of steak in his mouth, he paused to watch the reaction of everyone else at the table - he couldn't believe how good it was and had to make sure it wasn't just him! Jennifer and Kate were wonderful banquet managers and the staff was top notch. My husband and I really appreciated it when Kate came over to our table during dinner to tell us where we were in our schedule and help us get ready for the cake cutting.  Truly, everything from our ceremony all the way until the last dance was incredible. 

The venue was absolutely beautiful and not just the George Room (which itself was magnificent). Several of our attendees came in to town early and nearly all of them remarked on how nice the hotel is and how much character it has. Everyone seemed to really enjoy their rooms and certainly the half note lounge which was visited more than a few times over the course of the St. Patrick's Day weekend!

We couldn't have asked for a more perfect wedding. And what our attendees didn't get to see was no less important to making a great wedding come together. All the behind the scenes coordination and planning - beginning with our first meeting with them, our tastings and creating our room blocks, multiple in person meetings, and finishing with our last meeting the day before - was fantastic.  Suzi and Emily were so easy to work with and always responsive to our emails. And Jane, was such a pleasure to work with. We never had any doubts as to whether or not our wedding would be a success due in large part to her! The George Washington Hotel is a gem and so is the town of Winchester!

5 stars! I knew Winchester and The George Washington Hotel was going to be my wedding venue, BEFORE i got engaged. I stopped by the hotel 3 weeks before I got engaged and spoke w Jane who humored a "soon to be engaged lady" and gave me the wedding packages folder, answered all my questions, discussed availability and laid some of my fears/anxiety to rest. She was great about contacting me in a timely manner and kept me on track for all events including tastings and final head counts. The food was amazing, soo many great compliments on the pairings dish: steak and shrimp. Everyone thought their meal was delicious! Our ceremony and reception were at the George. Fast and amazing conversion from ceremony room to reception room. Loved the shaded windows which added ambiance and romance to a 5pm ceremony/reception. I would recommend The George Washington Hotel to anyone!! 5 stars!

We just did our wedding here on Saturday and are so thankful that we did. I admit it was rocky at first but Jane Obst and her team really exhibited top notch customer service. Nothing but positive feedback about our entire wedding from our guests especially about the food. I would recommend doing a party or wedding here anytime!!

A fantastic venue for anyone in the Winchester area! Jane Obst and her staff are incredibly generous and accommodating. Jane brings so much experience and great ideas to the planning process. The Grand Ball Room is stunning... the windows and natural light give an outdoor feel without the weather concerns. The decor is simple, classic, and elegant. The entree choices are fancy, but simple for guests of all palates. My husband and I stayed at the hotel for several days after the wedding and we LOVED every minute of our time there. It was the perfect place for our local families to come together to celebrate! We had many out of town guests who stayed at the hotel and spoke highly of their experience. It was so convienent to have everything and everyone all in one place! I would recommend The George Washington Hotel over and over again!

When we visited The George Washington hotel for the first time, we fell in love with the place. Not only is this a historic hotel, but it is elegant and lovely throughout. Jane and the entire hotel staff (Emily with room booking, Kate the banquet manager, etc) were beyond amazing throughout my wedding planning process. Jane's wedding planning knowledge and expertise were so helpful and I cannot say enough about the entire GW staff's professionalism- they helped our wedding weekend go perfectly without a hitch! Our guests loved staying in the hotel and having a convenient elevator ride downstairs to both our ceremony and reception. The venue is beautiful and hardly needs any decorating. And the food was delicious- we received many compliments from our guests. Highly recommend the GW for your wedding!

We had a great wedding experience with the George Washington Hotel. We had a relatively short planning period for our wedding, but there were no problems getting anything sorted. Jane did a great job working with us, as well as with the DJ, the florist, the wedding cake bakers, and with our guests. The food was great and the staff did a wonderful job. The hotel itself is very nice as well, and I would highly recommend this as a wedding venue to anyone else considering.

Jane and the staff were amazing. I'm not sure if we were the first same-sex wedding but they treated us with the upmost respect and gratitude. Everyone was awesome to both me and my partner and our guests.

Wonderful staff that was attentive to all my needs, and were able to be flexible even when the event was almost upon us! Beautiful venue, we had the George room for ceremony and seating for reception, and Martha room for cocktail hour and dancing. I felt well cared for song was able to enjoy all the important moments! My husband and I live in California and were getting married in winchester va, we had limited time to find a venue for our wedding but is wasn't a problem because as soon as we toured the George Washington hotel and met jane and the rest of the staff we knew this was the place, throughout the entire process jane was attentive in returning emails and keeping me up to date on deadlines. On the day of the wedding, as soon as I saw jane I was relaxed, she had everything under control, not to mention the wait staff and room service staff were beyond amazing, they were the sweetest people. Everyone that attended the wedding expressed how great everyone and everything was. I am so happy we choose the George Washington for the staff alone but I do have to comment on the food, we did a duet plate for all guests off the crab cake and filet and it was perfect! The Martha salad started was delicious and fresh and the passed appetizers during cocktail hour were delicious, the servers even brought my from and I some while we were taking pictures so we didn't miss anything :) thank you jane and everyone at the George for the amazing experience. We are so glad we got to share such a special day with our family and friends there!

I was having trouble finding a venue that felt "just right" to me in the Northern VA area, until I came home to Winchester. The space itself is beyond gorgeous; the ballroom really does not need decorations with the incredible chandeliers they have. While planning our October wedding, we worked with many great people at The George Washington Hotel: Katie, Emily, Susie, Devon, and most importantly, Jane! Jane was so calming throughout the process and I trusted that her and the staff were well prepared for the day of. They did not disappoint! So many guests have complimented us (raving!) on the venue, the staff and the food. It truly was a fun wedding and we could not have done it without the GW team. Everyone from Front Desk, to Room Service and the Banquet staff helped make us feel welcome and at ease. My husband and I were able to enjoy our stay and the wedding because the GW takes such good care of you! We cannot wait to return and stay at the hotel again to reminiscence on a magical day!

We were beyond happy with our wedding reception at the George Washington, it felt like a dream!
To start Jane Obst, the wedding coordinator at the hotel was very detailed oriented, helpful and organized throughout the whole wedding planning process up to the very end of the reception. She had every detail of the wedding on timelines and diagrams, which was VERY helpful. I was stress free with having our reception at the GW because I knew we were in good hands with Jane. Not to mention, she's a pleasure to work with! Susie Smith and Katie were also a pleasure to work with very helpful with the room blocking and last minute bookings by guests.
On our wedding day, Jane came up to my room and picked up all things I had brought to put out at the reception so I wouldn't have to worry about it. When we arrived back to the GW after the ceremony I peeked into the ballroom and I couldn't believe how amazing it looked!
The food was wonderful and presented beautifully ( we made sure to sit and enjoy the entire meal) The banquet staff was so attentive to us and all of our guests. They always made sure we were taken care of. Our guests raved about the food, staff and how beautiful the venue was.

When my husband and I started looking at potential wedding venues he made me promise to view several before making a decision. The moment I stepped into the grand ballroom at The George Washington Hotel, that promise went right out the window. It was the first and last place we viewed and for good reason. The hotel is breathtakingly gorgeous and has the staff and amenities to complete the perfect setting! A few years ago they spent a large amount of money to renovate this turn of the century hotel and they did an impeccable job of decorating and furnishing all while maintaining the historical charm with modern amenities. The wedding packages that are offered are incredibly reasonable not only compared to other venues of this caliber, but also when considering all that is included. The wedding coordinator Jane is very well organized and seasoned in wedding planning. She was incredibly helpful and on top of things with regard to all aspects of the wedding preparation, ceremony (which we had in the ballroom), and reception. The banquet manager Kate was extremely attentive during the ceremony and personally checked with us at the head table several times throughout the night to ensure we were taken care of. The food was incredible and by far the best I've ever had at a wedding! Above all the overall experience was perfect. The half note lounge provided entertainment for guests after the wedding was over and the dancing goat restaurant had a wonderful brunch in Sunday morning. Our guests have been raving about the customer service for weeks. Every staff member encountered greets you and asks if they can help with anything, Needless to say, I could not have asked for a more perfect venue!! I would absolutely recommend the George Washington Hotel to anyone and am greatly looking forward to the next time we are able to stay there and sleep in their amazing bed and sheets!

The George Washington was absolutely amazing. The banquet staff was the best I have ever worked with, or seen. I work somewhere that has a banquet staff, and I know how easy it is for staff to mess up/not be attentive. The GW went beyond and above my expectations. My entire wedding reception of guests enjoyed the reception, and were in disbelief at the gorgeous ballroom and excellent, attentive service. The food is OUT of this world as well. I had a very tight budget, and figured I would never be able to have my wedding reception there, but Jane worked with me and found a plan for me. I could not ask for anything more for my dream wedding reception. Thank you George Washington!

We were so incredibly happy with our wedding at The George Washington Hotel! Honestly, everything went perfectly - there wasn't one thing that we were unhappy with. We greatly enjoyed working with Jane Obst, who served as our wedding coordinator for the site. She was extremely responsive, helpful, and very reflective and thoughtful about ideas we had and wanting to make them work or suggesting ideas to us. She was there with us the entire evening, ensuring everything stayed on schedule -- which is VERY important - and taking care of any requests we had that night. They took care of storing all of our decorations the day prior to the wedding, and storing them afterwards until we could get them the following day, as well as placing our gifts in our guest room during the wedding. Everything was also set up for the wedding exactly as we had mapped out.

The food was wonderful, and we as the bride and groom made sure to enjoy it! We loved the cocktail hour and all of the passed hors d'oeuvres, and the plated dinner service was fantastic as well. They helped us create personal touches with highlighted 'signature cocktails' in addition to the open bar, as well as renting gorgeous silver antique trays from which to serve hors d'oeuvres.

The venue itself is gorgeous, and we particularly love the historic meaning of the space to the city (we live in Winchester). It was great for our guests (and ourselves!) to simply go upstairs to our guest rooms after the wedding. The hotel helped with placing welcome packets in the rooms for our guests, which is always nice so that guests can learn more about the city and downtown area, and find places to eat and shop. We heard many wonderful compliments about the hotel from our guests, about how helpful they were and how much they enjoyed the beautiful property.

We would highly recommend The George Washington Hotel for your event - be it a wedding, meeting, gala, or other celebration.

Our wedding reception at The George Washington Hotel in Winchester, VA was absolutely beautiful thanks to the hotel's wonderful staff and amazing service from the hotel's event managers Jane Obst and Suzi Smith. The venue itself is breathtaking, very elegant, full of character and perfect for a charming wedding in the heart of Virginia wine country. The hotel is in close proximity to the Old Town mall which is a great location for your guests looking for things to do before or after the wedding! I highly recommend this venue for your wedding reception or next event.

My husband and I got married in the Pocket Garden on the side of the George Washington Hotel. We worked with Jane Obst, and she was fantastic and incredibly helpful in her suggestions. It was the perfect place for a 9 person wedding, with lovely flowers, potted trees, and water fountain. We had a private dinner afterward with our family in the Lord Fairfax Room, which was also our back-up ceremony venue in case of rain. The duet entree plated dinner was amazing and they served our wedding cake with beautiful presentation. We stayed in the luxury suite and I was able to check in early to get ready. With such a small wedding, we were able to have everyone up to the suite after dinner, as it had a couch, table with four chairs, and another sitting chair. Everyone at the hotel was very professional, pleasant, and accommodating. We had a perfect experience there.

I couldn't have been happier with our experience at the George Washington Hotel. The hotel hosted our reception and an out of town brunch the following morning. Also many of our guests stayed at the hotel for our wedding weekend.

Jane was our coordinator and was incredible to work with. She is very detailed oriented and had everything planned seamlessly. She was so sweet on our wedding day and made me feel comfortable and important. All the staff at the GW are professional and accommodating.

GW hotel was a wonderful setting for our wedding reception. The ballroom was a great venue for our event. Jane is the event manager at the GW and she was fantastic throughout the process. She was accommodating to any request we would make and she sought to ensure the event went as smooth as possible. Unlike most locations where they may seek the most money from you, she sought to ensure things were done within a reasonable price. She would make insight recommendations while at the same time, not telling you her opinion on the subject. She was willing to easily adjust the timeline, store decorations, accommodate last minute requests, and friendly throughout. The food manager did a wonderful job and the food came out hot, on time, and seamlessly. The food was delicious ranging from apple wrapped appetizers to a unique salad presentation to wonderful cuts of filet. The hotel is in a great location in downtown Winchester, providing a wide range of activities for our guests.

We chose the George Washington hotel for two reasons. One was the location. We loved that our guests could explore downtown Winchester before and after the wedding and that they could stay at the location of the reception. Secondly, we had been to several weddings at the George Washington and were very impressed with all of them. We found the GW Hotel very easy to work with. Jane was very helpful and patient, especially when we changed out mind about some things at the last minute. We were extremely impressed with the quality of the food. It is not easy to cook high quality food for a large group, and we had 150 guests and it was amazing how many people raved about the food. The staff during the reception were all very nice and helpful. We would recommend the GW Hotel to anyone for a wonderful wedding experience!

We would highly recommend the George Washington Hotel. If you are looking to have a small wedding ceremony they have a chapel inside the hotel this is where my husband and I were married. We had a private dinning room with our own waiters they were very professional, service and the food was excellent. They also have a beautiful ballroom if your looking to have a large reception. The social catering sales manager is wonderful and she will work with you to make your wedding/reception a day to rememmber.

We're an older couple and planned our wedding in 2 weeks. We had a small wedding with immediate family and a few close friends. We wanted good food in a pretty setting. The food was good. The service was excellent. The staff was professional and accomodating. We didn't want the usual wedding cake or the desserts that came with our package. Since our wedding was a few days before my birthday, and my favorite dessert is strawberry shortcake, the catering staff created individual strawberry shortcakes with edible flowers. Not only was it almost to pretty to eat, but so tasty that there wasn't any leftover. We have no complaints about the service or the cost.

From start to finish I cant begin to rave enough about how amazing the George Washington staff has been!! The very first day I stumbled in the hotel with wide eyes and visions of my wedding (without an appointment!) the front desk staff was so friendly and helpful, Pat had someone show me the rooms at a moments notice and within minutes I'd booked my date (no pressue, just me THAT excited about the place!). On more than one occasion I popped in without an appointment to "look at this, look at that" and was always welcomed warmly (Carrie at the front desk was so sweet, just the right person to have at a front desk!). Leading up to the wedding I worked with Jane and Suzie, the event coordinators, they were very knowledgable and happily willing to go with my "different" wedding. I mostly worked with Jane, her knowledge and expertise was invaluable, not to mention her calming demeanor! Jane always followed through immediately, whether it was a phone call, email or an impromtu appointment. The morning of the wedding she was right there to be sure everything was perfect too! The day before and the day of, I worked pretty closely with Kate, she is amazing! She too has a calming demeanor ,and she genuinely shared my excitement as things began coming together, she helped with so many last minute details. (example; I forgot the antique lace to place over my antique trunk and she asked about it, when I told her I'd forgotten it, she quickly produced 3 different peices of lace perfect for what I needed. Then I'd placed the cookie favors under a table to retrieve later, not sure how I'd present them, she came to me and asked if I'd like her to display them, (she was better than a mind reader and a magic genie all in one!). Right before I was to walk in for the ceremony my waterworks began unexpectedly and there she was again, tissue in hand! There wasnt even one single employee who wasnt exceptional (right down to the night clerk that brought our after party crowd OJ and glassware to "enhance" our vodka, at 1:30am -way after the bar closed, EVERYONE was willing to go the extra mile,and genuinely kind about it). It truly was EXECEPTIONAL, I felt like a queen with everyone being so helpful and thinking two steps ahead of me offering just what I needed/wanted. The George Washington was a class act all the way!!

Jane and the whole GW staff are amazing- made our night run very smooth! We had one small glitch, and they took care of it promptly. Absolutely loved it and would recommend it to anyone.

My newlywed wife and I had a wonderful wedding experience at the George Washington Hotel in Winchester, VA! Rachel was the best coordinator/organizer/planner ever. She was wonderful and professional. Our hotel room was FANTASTIC, the spa was amazing and relaxing, and the wedding venue was breathtaking - absolutely perfect. All of our guests said that they had a great time. The reception was also a great time. Food was amazing! The servers could have been a little better, but they were still great overall. In conclusion, I would recommend this venue to all as a perfect place to have a wedding/wedding reception for anywhere from 1-150 guests. It felt like a luxury wedding without the price tag. Thank you again to all of the staff and especially Rachel!

The historic George Washington Hotel provided
the perfect elegant setting for an unforgettable wedding weekend weekend for our daughter on October 27-30, 2022. It was a spectacular wedding (ceremony at St. Bridget’s of Ireland Catholic Church and evening reception at Historic Rosemont Springs in Berryville).and all the events surrounding it were beautifully organized and executed, including the lovely and delicious brunch on Saturday organized by Rachel Thomas. All our guests were thrilled with the hotel rooms, (with a block set up and managed by Felicia Pallett), the welcome bags the hotel distributed for us, the hotel bar and the relaxed, welcoming, and classy accommodations are the George Washington. The hotel and the Winchester area sparkled in fall colors and we all had such a wonderful time!

The service we received at the hotel exceeded our expectations and we will certainly recommend it to others as well as come back to stay again. Thank you to the entire GW Hotel staff!

The George Washington — A Wyndham Grand Hotel in Winchester, VA, was the perfect place to house our family and friends for our wedding weekend in October 2022.

So many of our family and friends that stayed at the hotel were impressed with the cleanliness, quality of the rooms, and flexibility in earlier check in times as requested. It was especially helpful for my husband and myself, as we were eager to get ready in the room before our 4pm legal ceremony the Thursday before our wedding.

Rachel Thomas, the hotel's Social Sales and Catering Manager, was absolutely fabulous. She was incredibly responsive and professional, helping with the hotel block and the coordination of our after party at the Half Note lounge. One of our guests apparently paid the pianist extra to continue playing throughout the evening. We appreciate him obliging and the entire hotel staff being so accommodating of our entire party. The contracted after party food went SO quickly. Bartender was hardworking and attentive. We couldn't have asked for anything more.

We wholeheartedly recommend this hotel to family and friends looking to spend time in Winchester.

The George Washington was an amazing place to have our wedding. Jane, the event coordinator is very helpful and also flexible. She takes your ideas into account and makes it happen. I was very happy with everything. The day came and it all looked beautiful! Jane helped my friends the morning of to get everything ready and it meant a lot to me. Also the entirety of the staff working there were great. The servers during the reception I want to thank as well, they were so sweet and tentative to the guests. The staff at GW make this place shine. It is a gorgeous, albeit pricier, location and the staff are wonderful to work with. Jane, our manager, was prompt with questions or reminders and very responsive via email (sometimes you just don't have time for a phone call). The food was perfectly prepared and my guests have raved about all the accommodations. We had a room block which was easy to set up and made things nice for those who didn't have to travel past the elevator to get back to their home for the night. I didn't have any doubts about booking here and it was worth every penny we spent. Thank you GW!

The George Washington leaves little to be desired for a wedding reception. Everything from the food to the linens, bar and tables were taken care of, which was so much less stressful for me planning a wedding from a few hours away. There were many options to choose from for each element if you would want to upgrade from any of their base choices. Jane was great to work with and tried to make sure all of our requests were incorporated the best she could. My only complaints are that you only get to try two entrees during the tasting, so you kind of have to hope they are the ones you choose, and there were a few issues with the bartenders running out of things during the reception. Otherwise I couldn't have asked for anything better! The ballroom was absolutely gorgeous, and our guests had nothing but great things to say about everything.

The George Washington Hotel is an absolutely beautiful venue, we loved having our wedding reception there. It has abundant historic charm and is in a perfect location in downtown Winchester. We had a few hiccups in the planning process, but the venue made up for them very well and we were pleased. One thing that caused us some stress is that rehearsal space is not guaranteed until a week or two prior to the event date. I was afraid that we would be forced to have our rehearsal in my parents backyard, but in the end we were able to use the Ballroom. Overall, we had a great experience!

LOVED having our wedding here! My fiance is from Winchester, and although we don't live there now, it was perfect to have the wedding here. It is much less expensive than the venues you'll find farther east in Northern VA but still extremely beautiful and elegant. All of our guests were impressed. The staff did a great job with everything, especially the day of the wedding. Very attentive and did everything they could to make the day perfect. I'd recommend this place in a heartbeat!

My husband and I were married at The George Washington Hotel in October 2022 - yes, this review is VERY late but I did want to share our wonderful experience with prospective couples looking for a great ceremony and reception experience.

Pros- The hotel event planner, Rachel Thomas, was very accommodating and communicative, she was informative and made the process as smooth and underwhelming as possible. The venue is absolutely beautiful and very classy, it was everything that I expected aesthetically. The staff were very professional, the hotel and event space was very clean and organized. It's an upscale hotel with a great breakfast cafe and jazzy piano bar (which made for great photos on the big day). There's plenty of parking in the lot next to the hotel, and a parking garage right next to the lot. It's downtown Winchester, and maybe two blocks to the walking mall, as well as the incredibly beautiful Handley Library.

Cons - I'd say that the food options were somewhat limited (this was almost four years ago, I'm sure menu options have changed). I do recall that the tasting provided beforehand was thorough, but not entirely representative of what were were provided on the big day. I also wasn't impressed by some of the quality of the food during the day of the event, specifically the sides/veggies which weren't seasoned well and somewhat disappointing, but the hors d'oeuvres and main entrees (sirloin/soy glazed salmon) were great. I do remember that the vendor meals were not great, though (simply a wrap and fries). I remember wishing that there were more options given the cost - there were pricing tiers and add-ons available, though, we were just trying to stay within budget. I can't remember pricing specifically, and again, it has probably changed a good bit since, but I do recall it was close to 9k, that included the ceremony/reception space, food, open bar for a few hours, an overnight stay at the hotel, plus strawberries and champagne in the room following the reception. It was in the fine print and we didn't realize until later that there was a large service fee (I don't recall the percentage), this was discovered after we had requested the final price for everything (which when quoted, didn't include the service fee, therefore it was an inconvenient surprise when we were making the final payment prior to the wedding). The water fountain in the courtyard was not able to be turned on, which was disappointing, especially because I wasn't aware of this until the day of the ceremony (luckily my florist had extra flowers available to place in the fountain to decorate, otherwise it would've been an eye sore as a focal point during the ceremony). The string lights were also not able to be lit, I can't remember the reasoning other than it was during the afternoon, however, that also was a little disappointing and probably would've swayed my ceremony location if I had known beforehand. There were timing restraints imposed by the hotel, essentially, we couldn't bring any decorations etc. until a certain time of the day of the ceremony (I believe it was 12pm that day) which is fair, but because we were coming from out of town to set up, it made it difficult to do so with the commute/ceremony timing and having time to get ready. Due to this inconvenience, we had to pay for an additional night at the hotel to be able to stay the night before/bring the decorations and be there the next day for set up. I just wish the hotel was a little more willing to work with us on that, perhaps give us a discounted rate for the extra night or allow us to store our decorations the day prior.

Overall, we were so happy with the end result. Rachel really stepped up, not only with the communication throughout the process, but during the day of, she was ever-present and available to coordinate setup and staff. She really went above and beyond her role as hotel event planner. The hotel is beautiful and ideal for any smaller scale wedding - we only had 52 guests and there was plenty of space for more if needed. Like mentioned, the venue is very upscale and sets apart from a lot of the cookie cutter type of venues that I ran into while scouting wedding locations. Winchester is special to us as a couple, it was where we first lived together, and we were happy to be able to get married downtown in such a stunning, intimate space. When in Winchester again, we will absolutely make a pitstop at the GW Hotel's jazz bar, what a great experience!

My wedding at the George Washington was everything I hoped it would be. The chandeliers are timeless and I received numerous compliments on the food. My only complaint was the lack of flexibility with the venue. If things were not done "as they always were," it seemed as though I had to push for what I wanted. For example, they would not place name cards at individual place settings, which resulted in my mother doing it herself. Further, they charged for the use of a microphone. Perhaps this is typical of a venue of this caliber, but it seemed outrageous when there is already so much money being spent. However, the ceremony and reception turned out beautifully and our suite for the night was perfect. The atmosphere and food make the GW a wonderful wedding location, and I would recommend it specifically for those reasons.

I had my wedding reception here in September 2008. All of the guests were coming in from out of state (including the bride and groom), so everyone stayed the entire weekend. The hotel is beautiful. It's historic, classy,elegant and enchanting. I felt like a princess walking into the beautiful ballroom in my gown. Compared to other area establishments, it was a good deal (still pricey, but definitely competitive). For the most part, planning went smoothly with the wedding coordinator. She is very professional, but at times too professional. She comes off standoffish and not friendly like you hope someone coordinating your wedding would be. I was also very upset when I found out that the staff was eating our wedding cake behind closed doors. Several of my guests were told there was not enough cake (even though the cake was made to serve 88 people and we only had 76 guests). One of our guests was told by a staff member, "Wow that cake is great. We're all eating it in the back!" Like I said, I found this out days later so there was nothing I could do about it, but I was shocked. Other than that, the staff was very nice and accommodating throughout the evening and weekend.

I recommend this venue to other brides-to-be, but just warn you to be outspoken. Do not allow them walk all over you/take advantage of you/make you feel like a burden.

We had our wedding ceremony and reception at the George Washington Hotel on December 6th. Our guests really had a great time, and the food was delicious (in fact, both my husband and I were surprised because the food at the reception was much better than what we were given at the tasting!) There was some staffing turnover at the hotel right before the wedding, and Ashley is no longer the wedding planner/catering manager. (In my opinion, that's a good thing - Ashley, while seemingly professional, had an abundance of attitude. She's the type who thinks her job is the most important job in the world - and while I can appreciate her attention to detail, the accompanying pretension was not welcome.) The director of sales, Suzi, had the daunting task of doing two jobs during the weeks before our wedding, but she was still able to execute the ceremony and reception perfectly. The rating above for responsiveness is more for the months spent planning with Ashley than for the two weeks before the wedding with Suzi and the new catering manager, Sarah, who was also easy to work with.

The hotel's ballroom is simply beautiful - I've received a lot of compliments on my selection of venue, and the pictures I've seen so far turned out really well. Similarly, the hotel's rooms are very well-appointed. We had their largest suite for three nights that weekend, and it was bigger and nicer than the Fairmont suite we had in California on our honeymoon. My only complaint with the hotel is that it appears to be short-staffed. Eight of us had dinner in their restaurant, the Dancing Goat, two nights before the wedding, and it took hours, even though there were only a handful of tables. And the room service person, Casey, was working crazy hours - we saw her at 7 in the morning and then again at 8 at night, on the same day!

This hotel is lovely! Each room has lots of space, the pool is nice and unique - my guests and my sisters kids a like loved it, my mom was able to get a last minute massage, it is walkable to a lot of lovely restaurants, and the Half Note bar in the hotel Lobby is great to hang out! Oh! and large bathrooms which is great for getting ready!
I worked with Felicia to book our hotel block! She was wonderful at helping us work through problems with our guests booking. This is the only reason we are giving it 4 stars. The booking process was rough for our guests. Every single one of our guests, including ourselves, had issues booking with the block when they called the front desk. It always worked out but it was unnecessarily difficult to get a room at times. It seems like there is some sort of disconnect between the block and what the front desk is able to do. Also the parking with snow was a bit tricky with uncleared spots, and then the garage parking was a bit unclear with valet parking or if we could park there because the outside lot was full.
On a positive note, I booked their largest suite and it was a amazing! I had my bridal party over the night before and the day of to get ready. There was also a waterfall shower and large tub!
Overall, I would say book here but make sure you have more than enough rooms on hold in your block and have them a few days before the wedding as well.

The George Washington ballroom is beautiful - no doubt. Much to my dismay, the entrees were terrible. Neither the chicken nor the salmon entree was like the tast testing. I asked many of our guests and they all said that the food was not very good. Imagine how it must be to say that to the bride! Considering that the meal is such a huge part of the entire bill, I think it must greatly be proportionally reflected in my review.

Additionally, with our wedding package, we were supposed to have a bottle of champagne and chocolate covered strawberries in the honeymoon suite. They were not in the room. The next morning I asked at the front desk and the person acted like I was making it up. Then she looked it up and they had upgraded our room but didn't move these items. She was unapologetic and rude about the whole process. To be fair, another staff member came up to me, apologized, and delivered the items to our room that morning.

Ultimately, while the GW is beautiful, food is too important (and expensive) to sacrifice for a pretty room.

The event coordinators at this place are unresponsive and not at all professional or helpful. They gave me a room block rate that was more expensive then online prices. WHAT?!? It was embarrassing. They would not respond to emails or calls for weeks. My friend is a hotel executive and she tried to communicate with them when I got no response. She got nowhere. She said in all her years she has never dealt with people like this and recommended I cancel my room block with them. We were throwing thousands of dollars of business at them and they acted like they didn't want it. I knew we would take up most of the rooms in the small hotel and spend lots of money at the bar. Most of my guests reserved rooms outside the room block because it was cheaper than the rate they gave me which was ridiculous. The 2 ladies that coordinate events here should be replaced. The front desk staff was very nice and apologetic for the event coordinators. I have to thank them as they were the only helpful ones I dealt with. It is a shame because it is an amazingly beautiful hotel. I recommend going over and around the event coordinators. As you can see, all my other reviews on here were positive except this one. I would NEVER recommend if you have to deal with the event coordinators.
