Beautiful, professional, top-notch venue
Sunset Key cottages is a dream location with a team of people that make you feel so welcomed. Their service is top notch and not one detail is overlooked or taken for granted. Amazing to work with, extremely professional, just lovely experience overall. Did I mention that the location for wedding is unbelievable. A perfect wedding
Getting married on Sunset Key was a dream come true. After visiting Sunset Key in summer 2019, I knew in my heart that that is where I wanted to get married, and Jackie Herndon and her team made it all happen. We had a small wedding in early January 2020 (nine people total) so we did Sunset Key's Intimate Wedding package, which was $2,000 and was perfect. It included an officiant, photographer, and a bouquet for me and boutonniere for my husband. (We ordered additional boutonnieres and corsages for our guests, but it was nice that our flowers were included.)
The officiant, Aaron Wechter, was fantastic, and the photographer, Tony Gregory, did an amazing job with our...Getting married on Sunset Key was a dream come true. The officiant, Aaron Wechter, was fantastic, and the photographer, Tony Gregory, did an amazing job with our photos. Jackie was our coordinator at Sunset Key and she could not have been more helpful. No question or request was too small; she answered every email almost immediately and was so accommodating. We planned our wedding from out of state, and she made it so easy for us.
Sunset Key is such a beautiful location, and it really couldn't have been more perfect for us. Our sunset ceremony was romantic and intimate and we were surrounded by the natural beauty of Key West. After the ceremony, we had a champagne toast on the beach and did our first dance and the father-daughter and mother-son dances just after the sun went down.
We had our wedding dinner at Latitude's Restaurant on Sunset Key, and that, too, was perfect. Our server was great, the food was excellent, and at no point did we feel rushed along. We ended up sitting for four hours eating, drinking, and having cake and it was all really beautiful and relaxed. We ordered our cake from Key West Cakes, and they coordinated the delivery details with Latitudes.
You can tell that everyone involved with the Sunset Key wedding package is a seasoned vendor, so everything went really smoothly and they were able to answer our questions and accommodate us at every turn. If I were to do it all over again, I would choose Sunset Key every time. If you are considering a small wedding in Key West, I strongly recommend looking at Sunset Key. -

Most Gorgeous Venue in Key West!
Having our wedding ceremony on Sunset Key was truly amazing! There isn't a better backdrop for a wedding than the beach at Sunset Key. We felt like celebrities! The staff at SSK Cottages were great to work with. Jackie made sure everything went smoothly. The catamaran ride was a highlight of the wedding and our guests had a fantastic time. We couldn't have asked for a better experience for our wedding!Having our wedding ceremony on Sunset Key was truly amazing! There isn't a better backdrop for a wedding than the beach at Sunset Key. We had our wedding ceremony on the beach here @ the Cottages. I can't say enough about the beautiful surroundings and the outstanding staff. Our wedding was a simple small wedding total of 20. They were very accommodating when every I had a special request for anything. It is well worth the money for the service & location absolutely stunning & five months later & our guests are still raving about Sunset Key Westin Resort. I can't wait to renew our vows here in 10 yrs. or maybe 5yr. :);)We had our wedding ceremony on the beach here @ the Cottages. I can't say enough about the beautiful surroundings and the outstanding staff. Our wedding was a simple small wedding total of 20. Watch dolphins swim while you get ready for your wedding!!
Amazing venue and accommodations for our wedding weekend! I was able to watch DOLPHINS swim by as I was getting ready—truly incredible!
Jackie and her team at Sunset Key were all so very professional and KIND our entire stay! I literally wouldn’t have HAD a wedding without Vicky and Melanie at Vicky Furman Events! They were on top of EVERYTHING and I hardly had to do anything. Everything was beautiful, they understood what I wanted and liked, and they kept me on track. Vicky and her team went above and beyond accommodating my diet and extra stuff I wanted to include in the wedding weekend. ie. my women’s circle for example :) I can’t thank them enough and I will never forget them and how perfect my wedding weekend was. Wonderful Experience & Staff

Amazing Site, Amazing Service
Amazing service, amazing site.
Our wedding had to be modified and we found Sunset Key for our small 25 person wedding. In the COVID era, they were thoughtful and the service felt secure for our kids and family.
Jen Levering, the Banquet Coordinator, was spectacular, pointing us to great vendors. She was super detailed, very thoughtful and responded to us virtually instantly.
The setting was truly magical. Paradise Cottage is aptly named. The service was personal and spectacular. We are both in or around the events industry and can confidently say that this is top 1% in terms of on the day service and set-up.
The food was top notch, beautifully displayed....Amazing service, amazing site.

Perfect Paradise
Absolutely perfect and amazing! My dream wedding wishes came true and were exceeded! All 50 guests were blown away... from the wedding on The Point, the Private Catamaran cocktail hour and the amazing reception at our private cottage! Paradise Cottage was given an appropriate name of Paradise! Jackie put all my fears aside in case of inclement weather so there was always a backup plan, if needed! Absolutely over the top!Absolutely perfect and amazing! My dream wedding wishes came true and were exceeded! I cannot say enough great things about Sunset Key! First off, my parents stayed in the Paradise cottage and OMG it is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen! My big family has so much space! And the staff was so quick to provide us with anything we needed! Jennifer Levering with the Westin was so wonderful with the help planning our big day, and Sandy the day of also helped with the catering from Latitudes, they were all so wonderful! All of the wait staff were so great and speedy! Especially Victor & Stefan! Such sweet people! The food was amazing, my husband and I are "foodies" so the food was a big deal for us...and they...I cannot say enough great things about Sunset Key! It was a gorgeous day on a beautiful beach with the exclusivity of a 'private' island that can only be reached by boat. Erin is extremely knowledgable, helpful, and friendly. I was considering several places to have our wedding close to home but, Key West/Sunset Key has always been in my heart! I had been to Key West several times but had only seen SSK from afar until the day we arrived for the wedding weekend and WOWWW. Everything and everyone was above and beyond my expectations!
Erin was the greatest! We had a small destination wedding with only the immediate family there, but even then she made sure everything was running smooth and was SO easy to work with!
I would definitely recommend anyone looking for wedding venues to consider this location. Erin happily answered all of our questions, made our dinner reservations, and constantly kept in touch via email.

We recently got married at Sunset Key. Staying at the cottages was a little out of our price range, so we stayed at the Resort & Marina and took the ferry over to the ceremony. The room there was fine, but having seen the beautiful cottages, I now long to stay on this cute little island.
First, let me say that Erin (the Director of Catering) rocks. She was super to work with -- despite the fact that we had a very small ceremony (immediate family only), she was on top of all the necessary details, including arranging special transport for my mother, who has some mobility issues.
Sunset Key, like many venues, charges based on...We recently got married at Sunset Key. Staying at the cottages was a little out of our price range, so we stayed at the Resort & Marina and took the ferry over to the ceremony. The room there was fine, but having seen the beautiful cottages, I now long to stay on this cute little island.

Sunset Key, like many venues, charges based on the number of guests, so our ceremony was not a huge money maker for them. Given this, I was blown away at Erin's extrmeme attentiveness to our event and her numerous helpful suggestions. She was, in a word, lovely, throughout the entire process. Indeed, her professionalism and clear competence made planning the wedding from afar a breeze.
Second, the site itself is spectacular. Sailboats, a sunset, a beautiful dock -- what more could you want? Also, taking the ferry over made the whole experience seem a little special/exclusive, without being too much of a strain on our parents. After the ceremony, we had numerous parts of the island available for photos, which was an extra bonus.
Third, Latitudes, where we had dinner, was amazing. Our table of 9 watched the sun slip into the ocean and then dined on fantastic food and wine. When the cake came out, it had sparklers on it, which was a great touch.
Simply put, I could not have asked for a better wedding. It was exactly what I had imagined/hoped for -- simple, elegant, and relaxing. Thanks to Erin and Latitudes for making our wedding perfect! -

We had our ceremony at Sunset Key & our reception on the Westin pier.I can't begin to say how happy I am of what a great job Westin, Sunset Key, and their staff (Erin!) did leading up to and the wedding day! My husband and I had such a great experience. The food was so yummy and the details were all taken care of. I didn't have to worry about a thing!
I highly recommend getting married at the Westin, especially Sunset Key. That just made it past perfect! It has to be one of the most beautiful places ever. I would do it all again in a heartbeat!

I have been family vacationing at Sunset Key since I was about 8. My family has always talked about one of us kids getting married there one day. I am from Texas and he is from the UK and when my (now) husband proposed to me in Australia (where we live). I am from Texas and he is from the UK and when my (now) husband proposed to me in Australia (where we live). We instantly knew we wanted to get married in Key West and make it a destination wedding for everyone. Sunset Key was the only place we wanted to get married at. While we had a few hiccups during their separation from the Westin while we were trying to book everything else was amazing (and always has been for years). We had our wedding on the beach, had a Fury catamaran take us out for cocktail hour and the reception back at SSK at Paradise Cottage. The reception team was amazing at everything leading up to and after the wedding. Gave us anything we needed. The atmosphere and backdrop was amazingly beautiful that everyone was in awe of. Paradise Cottage was a dream to stay in and we were even able to use it as a space for children to be babysat (and SSK helped us locate a babysitting service). Jennifer, the event planner at SSK, answered all our questions leading up to the wedding with ease and accommodated everything we may have needed. The team effortlessly moved us back and forth from SSK to Margaritaville resort as we had many coming and going. When my husband became very sick during our wedding and couldn't get out of bed the day after they were so accommodating in helping us book a small honeymoon for us as he wasn't able to get on a plane to Mexico. We stayed a few extra days but had to move cottages a couple times. They moved everything for us while we laid by the pool drinking mojitos - including the top layer of our wedding cake! If you are looking for the most amazing back drop ever and the most excellent service, look no further than SSK. It was a dream come true to marry the one I love on such a memory filled location. I have to say I was very impressed with the Resort, staff, and management. Although it rained on my wedding day and we ended up having the event indoors it turned out beautifully. The professionalism and hard work of the staff involved is to be commended. Lattitudes restaurant did an amazing job with the food, my guests are still raving about it. The staff at Sunset Key went out of their way to make this day special in so many ways.I have to say I was very impressed with the Resort, staff, and management. We chose to get married on Sunset Key, with our cocktail hour on the Fury and the reception at Audubon house. The locations were amazing. The event flowed smoothly, and the food and drinks wonderful from start to finish. Sandy, the catering manager, was terrific. There were a few issues, though, that prevented this from being a 100% positive experience.
There was a complete lack of flexibility to work with vendors outside the small, approved list. For example, we chose a professional wedding band based out of Orlando. The Westin put up huge roadblocks when it came to the insurance coverage of the band. Erin would not finalize the wedding menu details with us until the insurance was final, and we almost lost the ability to spend the amount of money required to meet our minimum. Additionally, we worked with a wedding planner who was not on the preferred list, and in our opinion, she was treated with disrespect on several occasions.
The bartenders put out a tip jar, which we found very tacky, especially since we were charged 20% gratuity on the entire fee (including location charges),
We spent a considerable amount of money with the Westin/Sunset Key, but were treated like a number. Overall, this is a solid operation but is formulaic and does not have much flexibility for customization. If you want a dependable, paint by numbers wedding with little room for creativity, this is the option for you.

Disappointed
We are writing to express our deep disappointment and frustration with the numerous issues we encountered during our recent wedding at Sunset Key Cottages. As the bride and groom, we had high expectations for Sunset Key, but unfortunately, our experience fell far short of what we had envisioned.
Throughout the planning process, we experienced a multitude of careless mistakes and oversights made by both the Opal Resort group sales team and event team. These errors not only impacted our experience but also affected our guests. We feel compelled to bring these issues to attention of future couples, so they think twice before booking their wedding with SSK.

Prior to even signing the wedding contract, we had to advise of multiple mistakes within each document that was sent over to us. It seemed as though no effort was made in responding to emails which resulted in a disorganized and chaotic wedding planning process. Such a lack of attention to detail is unacceptable, especially when planning such an important day.
Furthermore, we were shocked to discover that many of our guests were double and even triple charged for their rooming accommodations. This not only caused unnecessary stress and confusion but also reflected poorly on the professionalism and integrity of the SSK establishment. It is disheartening to think that our loved ones had to endure such financial inconvenience and discomfort due to the negligence of your staff. Not to mention during Christmas and New Years, where there was little staff available to reverse these overcharges.
In addition to these major issues, there were several other instances where the wedding staff's lack of attention to detail was evident. For example, groceries ordered for two cottages were delivered incorrectly and charged to the wrong bills. SSK would not have made the updates on billing unless our guests brought it to their attention. Additionally, false information was given to guests regarding a credit that was provided by the Bride in Groom. “Use it in our gift shop or you will lose it”… when the purpose of the credit was to help our family and friends with their final bill. The last straw was receiving a “final final” bill a week after our wedding for the room they allegedly “forgot” to charge. We made final payment 2 weeks prior to wedding, and checked out of room with $0 balance. Somehow it was our fault that their staff forgot to add this charge to our banquet bill. After reviewing in detail our contract and agreeing to the payment, we were hit with a , surprise, DOUBLE CHARGE. Now we are over a month after our wedding we are still dealing with SSK.

Overall, our experience at SSK was marred by a series of careless mistakes and oversights made by their staff. We entrusted them with creating a memorable and flawless wedding experience, but unfortunately, our expectations were not met. (Please note: The day of staff, latitudes staff, our hired vendors, planner, photographer all brought light to our day and were a breath of fresh air. They helped make our day beautiful and one we will never forget.)
We understand that organizing events can be challenging, but it is imperative that companies such as SSK prioritize attention to detail, effective communication, and staff training. We sincerely hope that SSK will take our feedback seriously and make the necessary improvements so that no other couple has to experience what we went through. From reaching out to other couples, we understand we are not the first to experience these issues.
SSK is a beautiful venue, but until the staff is ready to handle large groups, steer clear. -
