Beautiful Day

We began our wedding planning with a clear vision, and Shawn at Shawn Schindler Events helped bring it to life with beauty and intention. We chose the Timeless Plan, and early on we communicated mostly through email. Shawn guided us through key design decisions — florals, linens, and even cake details — making each choice feel simple and aligned with our style.
Throughout the process, she offered thoughtful etiquette advice, coordinated timelines, and confirmed every vendor detail so nothing slipped through the cracks. During the week of the wedding, her team distributed a detailed schedule to all vendors, gathered our event materials, and placed everything perfectly on the day — guest books, favors, programs, place cards, table numbers, and more.
On the wedding day itself, they were present at every event. Shawn provided an emergency kit and stayed with us until we walked up the aisle. She then moved to the reception venue to oversee the design execution and remained there for the entire celebration, keeping everything running smoothly — no small feat.
In the end, they didn’t just help us plan a wedding — they helped us create an experience. Their professionalism, organization, and genuine care allowed us to savor every moment without stress. Highly Recommend Shawn Schindler Events!!

We used Shawn as our wedding planner for our September wedding and we could not have been happier! I have known Shawn almost my entire life, and she exceeded every expectation. She was organized, on time, and so helpful with vendors and vendor meetings. She kept me on top of everything I needed to get done, and made it all fun in the process! I was a little stressed throughout the planning, but she helped keep me grounded and reminded me how special this season was! Shawn and her team are the best of the best

Shawn and her team are the best of the best. I felt like a dear and lifelong friend to Shawn, not just her client. She put us first in every move she made and executed a timeless event. When she heard I wanted wreaths on the front door of the venue, she offered to make bows in our wedding color, and they were beautiful. Changes to my vision for the arrangement of the room the week before our wedding were met with excitement and connection, and all impacted vendors contacted within an hour. Emotional support for family emergencies the week before. Vendor accountability. A hug when things felt too overwhelming. Making sure we ate and savored every minute. She bustled all 17 points of my dress, twice. Someone’s dress catches on fire? Shawn has an emergency kit for everything. Shawn is a rarity, and our day would not have been the same, the dream we’ve always hoped for, without her.

Absolute best decision we made for our wedding!

Shawn Schindler Events was the absolute best decision we made for our wedding on 9.19.25. From day one, Shawn was organized, calm, and genuinely invested in bringing our vision to life — and then some. Every detail felt thoughtful and intentional, and the entire planning process was so much smoother because of her clear communication, timelines, and vendor coordination.

On wedding day, Shawn and her team were total pros. They handled everything behind the scenes so flawlessly that we were able to be fully present and actually enjoy every second. If something popped up (because weddings always have something), we never even knew — it was already solved. The day flowed perfectly, the space looked stunning, and our guests are still talking about how seamless and beautiful everything was.

Celebrating the Best Day Ever

I’m not being dramatic when I say they planned the best weekend of my entire life. Every single detail was thoughtful, intentional, and really matched the way Rob and I wanted to remember such a special day. We truly got to just be in the moment, soak it in, and enjoy because Shawn and her team had everything taken care of.

Our wedding weekend wasn’t just beautiful, it genuinely felt like us. It was filled with real joy, not panic over timelines or small details. All of that was taken care of or handled, so we were able to be truly present with our loved ones!

Shawn helped us pick fantastic vendors that made the day so incredible and fun. I cannot express enough how grateful I am for how Shawn held space for our vision, and then took it and elevated it!

A Lifelong Dream Come True

Shawn is Absolutely Amazing! We have used her twice now for both of our daughter's weddings. Most recently was on Sept 28th of this year. I can honestly say that both of my girls weddings were more beautiful than I could have ever imagined and a day that will forever be etched in our minds. Shawn was very helpful to us leading up to their wedding day, she kept us on schedule, she was always available to answer questions and she made sure that all of our vendors were in place. She took so much stress off of me the day of the wedding knowing that she was working behind the scenes to make sure all the little details came together. This allowed us to enjoy the day and take in every moment that we could with our daughter and family/friends. I completely trust Shawn and her staff and would not hesitate to recommend them. She is honest and assertive and she will make sure your day unfolds exactly how you have always dreamed it would.

A day we will always cherish

We couldn’t have had a better experience with Shawn and her team. She was attentive to our requests during the planning process, gave great guidance when we struggled with decisions, and was flexible in the days leading up to and day of the wedding. When we made some last minute changes to the reception, she adapted graciously and executed exactly what we requested. She also did a great job of handling small but important details with the reception floor plan, the ceremony timeline, and wedding party preparation before the ceremony. My wedding was planned over a few years while I juggled graduate school and my fiancé and I traveling/being long distance from each other and our planners. Shawn Schindler was the name that we heard over and over as we spoke with vendors when we started planning my daughter's wedding last year. Each one said that she is the best in the business. She was the first planner that we called to meet and discuss her services. My daughter and I met Shawn and discussed our ideas. It was like meeting with an old friend and we knew that everything we had heard about Shawn was spot on and there was no need to look any further. Shawn was available and responsive throughout the planning process to give suggestions and guidance. A month out from the August wedding, we turned everything over to Shawn and she took over finalizing everything with the vendors and assuring that everything that we had spent months planning came to fruition. The day of the wedding was perfect. Shawn and her assistant took over and made sure that the day went as planned and that everything was coordinated perfectly. I highly recommend Shawn Schindler and SSE for any event you may have!! My daughter got married July 8, 2017, with the ceremony at our church and reception at JC Raulston Arboretum. Shawn and SSE made the day completely worry-free! She was at the rehearsal along with her staff and gave instructions to everyone how and when everything would happen. From the time we got to the church on Saturday to the end of the night, she and her staff took care of everything! I couldn't have asked for things to run smoother! I cannot begin to express my gratitude for all of Alex's hard work. I was worried during our engagement that the wedding planning would start to get stressful the closer we got. That never happened with Alex's help. I never had to worry about set-up, making sure all of the knick-knacks were in place, making sure everyone was where they were supposed to be, nothing. Our wedding day was so smooth and easy, and that's entirely because Alex was there running the show. I could text, call, and email at any time of day with questions and concerns, and Alex would handle everything. Alex was the coordinator we worked with from this company and she was a lifesaver! I bought the simplest package, because I figured most of the decisions leading up to the wedding were largely opinion-based, so my fiancé and I would do that part. However, Alex came with us to our CE Rental appointment and really helped us figure out our linens when we got stuck! Our venue also fell through 5 months before the wedding and Alex helped us find a new one, and went to tour venues with us and ask pertinent questions that I would've never thought of! She was great! She was always available by phone call, text, or email if I got hung up on anything and needed advice! And the weeks leading up to the wedding, I don't know what I would've done without her! She organized all the contracts and contacted every vendor to coordinate their times, created a time line for the wedding party on the day of, basically anything that needed to be done leading up to the wedding, she did it. It was SUCH a weight off my shoulders! She and her assistant came to the rehearsal to make sure everyone knew what they were doing, and on the day of they were running around like mad women to make sure everything was perfect! If anything went wrong, I have no idea, it flowed so smoothly thanks to her! Definitely would recommend this company and Alex to everyone! She works wonders! ?

SSE is a MUST HAVE for your wedding! She and her staff are very friendly yet assertive, very organized and very professional. Shawn and Michelle beautifully coordinated my son and daughter-in-love's wedding just like they requested beforehand in our meetings with them. We didn't have to worry about a single detail day of. I had the pleasure of working with Alex Watkins and Shawn Schindler Events while planning my wedding. Alex was incredibly friendly and very thorough. She explained all of the little details that go into wedding planning that I had no clue to expect (even with all of the wedding websites I had visited!). She also helped me make a couple of hard decisions that were really stressing me out. Not only that, she was flexible and accommodating to our schedules. We talked on the phone, texted, met after work hours. And she was always happy to do so. On the day of my wedding, she and her assistant made it their sole purpose to make sure I was taken care of and I wasn't overwhelmed. Her assistant even stepped in and helped with last minute decorating! I couldn't be happier with the service I received from Shawn Schindler Events and would recommend them to anyone planning a wedding. You'll be a very happy bride! :)

Shawn coordinated our wedding the day of and I will say she is a must use! We are so greatfull to her and her team for making our wedding day a day we wish we could relive. She made sure everything flowed smoothly, to where we were able to relax & just enjoy our day. Your wedding day is a day you don't want to have to worry about, and without Shawn and her team I know there would've been last minute problems, I as a bride would not have wanted to deal with. Shawn made sure everyone knew what he or she was doing as apart of our wedding, she made sure the time line stayed on track, as well as flipped our space (from the ceremony to the reception) in the most organized and quickest way possible (which was our biggest worry going into the day). This team is the best, I strongly encourage anyone looking for a wedding planner to use them!

The day of my wedding was perfect!! It went so smoothly--my husband and I were able to enjoy every minute because we had no stress or worries thanks to Shawn Schindler Events! All of the coordination, scheduling, and decor was handled. Shawn was great to work with--even though I live in Charlotte and she's in Raleigh, we were able to meet during 2-3 info packed sessions and she was always available by email or text--this made staying in contact easy. She has connections with fantastic vendors who helped to make our day beautiful and fun! She also had no problems working with a couple of vendors that I already knew and were new to her. If you're looking for someone to plan your wedding (or any event) and if you want it to be beautifully handled right down to the smallest detail, Shawn Schindler Events is a must have!

If you are considering hiring a wedding coordinator, look no further, Shawn is the absolute best and I would highly recommend her to any Bride! Shawn and Jaycee did an excellent job of helping to create the wedding of my dreams. On the day of my wedding I had absolutely nothing to worry about and was truly able to enjoy every moment of the day. We used Shawn and her amazing team for not one, but two weddings! Before we started the wedding planning process I wasn't sure if we really needed a wedding planner. But I can now say that without question, hiring Shawn and her team was by far the best decision we made through the entire process and it was definitely the best value for the money we spent for anything associated with either wedding. Shawn and her team really made all the difference between a good wedding an outstanding lifelong memory and experience. Shawn and her team are the ultimate professionals and have so much experience that they handle with ease even the most difficult situations. My brides both felt very special because of the attention that Shawn and Jaycee gave them on their special days. But one of the most important things I can say about why you should hire Shawn and her team is, as the parents of the brides Shawn took care of all of the day's details, anticipated and handled everything so that we could truly enjoy our daughters' weddings. I can't even begin to thank Shawn and her team for their part in the most special day in our daughter's life. She took a young woman who would barely make eye contact and brought out a bride that was engaged in, and excited about, her wedding planning! I can't imagine having tried to plan this wedding without their help. From beginning to end, I never had to concern myself with whether or not things were getting done.....something that anyone who has had a wedding knows is huge! Shawn and her team are wonderful to work with! Alex was our planner and she did an amazing job helping me with all my little silly questions and being patient with me. It was such a relief to be able to let Alex handle coordination of the vendors and the day of decorations. With everything else happening on the day of the wedding, not having the additional stress helped! I tend to be a control freak, but knowing Alex was taking care of everything, I had no worries! I've always been a cynic about weddings and never understood all of the hype (and time and money) spent on one day but I have been converted! Our wedding was beautiful and everything went incredibly smoothly (at least from my perspective) and I wouldn't change a thing. I know that a lot of that is due to the hard work that Shawn and her team put into our wedding over the last several months and of course the week/day of. I realized that the fact that I didn't get stressed out at all the week of the wedding was because I knew that you all were handling everything and there was nothing to worry about; I just had to make it down to the end of the aisle. I heard great praise for you from all of the guests. So, once again, thank you for your guidance and letting me go with my somewhat rock-themed wedding because everything turned out perfect! Now let the countdown to the honeymoon begin.

I can't say enough nice things about Shawn! Shawn planned my sister-n-law's wedding for my husband's family (before I was even in the picture!) and I knew that if my future new family trusted her that my family would too. Being an event planner myself, I knew that I would be my own worst client and that we needed a planner to plan a long distance wedding. After our first phone call with Shawn I was so excited and ready to hire her. She made the entire process SO EASY. She introduced us to all the perfect vendors, put up with our numerous texts/emails/phone calls, took our new ideas for the venue space and ran with it, and delivered the most gorgeous wedding day for us that made me cry when I walked in BEFORE the set up was event complete. Also, if you want someone to run the day of events, she is the only person you should hire in North Carolina. I've never seen an event planner run an event so well the day of and I know plenty of event planners :) the day was flawless and everything ran ON TIME!!! If you are looking to hire a wedding planner, especially for the day of, then hire Shawn! Her team is also incredible, her assistant for our wedding helped make the day perfect too and was super polite, thoughtful, and kind. What can I say other than that Shawn is absolutely amazing!! She came into our lives a few weeks before the wedding when all the scheduling and coordination started to become extremely overwhelming. From the moment that we met her, we felt a total sense of ease and calm. Our situation was interesting because we did not have a coordinator until those two weeks before. Even though our relationship with Shawn started later in the game, she jumped right into everything and took control. We felt as if we had known her forever. She was beyond professional with both families, wedding party, venue, caterer, florist, etc. I would highly recommend Shawn if you want to experience a stress free wedding day! Everything was perfection!

It's hard to even explain how incredible Shawn and her team are. I am pretty sure she was one of my first calls after getting engaged!! Shawn and Alex helped me throughout the entire process even when I was out of town for three months. We had a full service package (definitely worth it) so Shawn and Alex attended every appointment with me from meeting my photographer and choosing linens to all five dress fittings I had. They were able to give me the best advice and suggestions on venues, vendors and any ideas I had without ever making me feel pressured. They focused on what was important to me and made sure that it was perfect. On my wedding day everything was completely taken care of I didn't have to worry about anything but was able to enjoy my time and relax while getting ready with my friends, sister and mom. Throughout the day Shawn is able to give us flexibility but keep us on our timeline (that's not an easy task with 20 people in the wedding party) without ever feeling rushed. They were simply able to make the day absolutely perfect.

We have been married for a year & our anniversary incited discussions about the joy of our wedding weekend. We can attribute a lot of this joy to Shawn Schindler Events- with these experts in control, we were able to fully enjoy our wedding & allow them to handle the details! Shawn’s team enables you/your family to be completely immersed in the moment, without worrying about any of the ‘behind the scenes’ execution. This alone made her services worth every penny- the wedding goes by in the blink of an eye & it was so imperative to us that we spend each of those minutes with our guests, not vendors. Shawn had a special gift for transforming the many designs, pictures, & concepts we presented her into a unified, executable vision. Her team assisted with the Rehearsal Dinner as well & guaranteed that all wedding weekend activities, from start to finish, went off without a hitch (or at least unknown to us). We decided to work with Shawn as a Full Service Client & adored planning with her during our engagement. Her recommendations saved us tremendous amounts of time, yet when it came time for a final decision she always encouraged us to go with the selection we were most comfortable with & supported that decision fully (i.e. listening to our style, suggesting a narrowed down list of photographers that best aligned with those preferences, accompanying us to meetings, prompting questions we may not have thought to ask & helping us gain all the info needed to make the best decision). Amanda from Your Special Day/Shawn Schindler Events was a pleasure to work with throughout the wedding planning process.
I had a lot of questions about logistics and vendors and Amanda was always quick to answer any questions and assuage any concerns.

Shawn and the rest of the team at Your Special Day were fabulous! The wedding day was perfect! Shawn kept everything in order and made sure that we didn't worry about anything on the wedding day. It was such a blessing to have her coordination skills. I'm sure I would have been a mess on the wedding day without her behind the scenes handiwork.

Shawn also provided numerous vendor recommendations that were amazing. Getting really good vendor recommendations REALLY helps a lot in the whole wedding planning process. We knew absolutely nothing about who to pick so we were just going off of whatever we could find on the internet. I am confident that our wedding day wouldn't have been the same without her wonderful references. We found that some "wedding" vendors aren't very pleasant to work with, but everyone Shawn recommended exceeded all expectations.

As I look back on the craziness of planning a wedding, I think hiring Your Special Day was one of the best decisions we made!

Amanda and Alex were an absolutely amazing team for our wedding on Saturday June 14, 2014 at Duke Gardens. Not only did they provide excellent day of service, Amanda's pre planning and advice leading up to the big deal was more than exceptional. At our rehearsal, Amanda and Alex took charge, explained how everyone should line up for the wedding and made sure that everyone understood their roles. On the day of, the dynamic duo arrived at Duke Gardens early to ensure all vendors and set up were going smoothly. They maintained the (large) wedding party and family in a kind and "stern" way to make sure everyone was where they needed to be and on time. The flow of the actualy reception was flawless. Everything went according to plan (I think), and if something went wrong, I have no idea because they just made everything happen! I also received positive reviews from guests that attended the wedding that Amanda and Alex were great and telling the guests when to head inside for important moments like the dances and toasts, as well as when their tables were released for the buffet. They felt that the large wedding was "corralled" in a politie but firm way, an art that some wedding planners do not have. I highly suggest Amanda and Alex to anyone who is in need of a wedding planner. They will NOT disappoint!

It’s been said that people come into your life for a reason and sometimes they change it for the better. That was surely the case for us when we were fortunate enough to meet Shawn. She is uniquely gifted with the ability to bring a sense of calm and control to any situation. Her sweet smile put us at ease when we first met as she immediately gave us the feeling that we were talking with an old friend. We were so thankful for many extra and unexpected things she did for us. As the mother of the bride I was able to approach the year of planning and the weekend of the wedding as a time of making many happy memories with my daughter, knowing that Shawn was taking care of all the details. Having a wedding planner was one of the best decisions I made after saying " I Do"! Shawn and her team were so professional and organized. I specifically remember our first meeting where Shawn wanted to know about our story, how we met and what we enjoyed. She was interested in us as a couple. I loved how she took my vision and gave me incredible ideas to truly make our day special!
We chose Shawn because of her personality, professionalism, and her desire to capitalize on the details. She had wonderful relationships with other venders and was honest with us along the way.

I have known Shawn for over 10 years now, and she is one of the best in this business!

We had some unforeseen circumstances that required us to change our wedding date from August to May, which meant that we went from having about 8 months left to only 4 months to plan almost the entire wedding. Even though she was very busy in May, she worked with us to find a day that worked, and she made everything happen for our event. I'm not a very visual person, so it was hard for me to vocalize how I pictured my wedding day. Shawn helped put everything together in such a beautiful way; I look back on our day and say that I would not have changed one thing about it. She knew exactly what we wanted, even when we really didn't!

The day of the wedding was so seamless and stress-free for me. I know that there were mishaps and things that went awry, but never once was I worried at all about any of it. Shawn and her team made sure that everything was taken care of and that the stress was never deferred on me or anyone in my family or wedding party. We did not have to coordinate vendors, check on food, worry about timing, etc. Shawn directed everyone and had everything under control. That day-of presence alone was worth the price of her services.

At first I was not convinced that I needed a wedding planner. I soon found out that I was very wrong about that. I found myself being consumed with details and did not know where to turn or how to proceed. After one too many sleepless nights, I decided to get a wedding day of coordinator. It turned out to be one of the best decisions that I made concerning the wedding. After talking to Shawn, my mind was instantly put at ease. Shawn just had a way of making me feel like everything was going to be OK and that she had everything under control. My peace of mind alone was worth what she cost. I remember sleeping for the first time in days after signing the contract. A wedding is not something that just happens on its own and having someone who knows what to do and when to do it is so much of a help.

My goal for my daughters wedding was that I wanted to enjoy the day and not be distracted with details. Hiring Shawn allowed that very thing to happen. I was able to sit back and relax, knowing that I was not in control and that the most important day in my daughters life was in the hands of a professional. I was able to do what Mothers are supposed to do and that was be there for my daughter and love on her. I honestly don't think I could have handled that day without Shawn.

On the day of the wedding, Shawn helped in so many ways and was there to make everything run smoothly. I did not have to worry about anything. She sewed a button on my dress, had someone run to Wal-Mart at the last minute and purchase a garter as we lost my daughters somehow, cut the rather large cake as I had no idea how to do so, and even helped to clean up at the end of the night. My only regret is that I did not immediately hire Shawn. By the time I made the phone call, I had already chosen and paid for the venue. I know that if I would have talked to Shawn about this important decision that we would have saved money in the long run.

Emily Bauer was an absolute pleasure to work with! She was the perfect assistant. She fixed the mother of the bride's dress after it ripped, removed black marker from a flower girls dress, and kept the bride calm, cool and collected during the entire event. It was the best value of any of the wedding services and we are so incredibly grateful that we had the opportunity to work with her. After meeting her for just a few minutes I felt like she was one of my closest friends and someone that understood and knew exactly what to do and make everything run seamlessly.

Amanda did a great job and after she entered the picture, we no longer worried about the logistics associated with the reception at Cypress Manor. My name is Anna and I recently married my best friend on June 12, 2012. I thought it would be overwhelming to plan a wedding in North Carolina, since my fiance and I lived in Southwest Florida. I searched online for local wedding planners in Emerald Isle, where we were planning the event, but the planner I read wonderful reviews on wouldn't even return my phone calls! Shawn's website, Your Special Day, kept coming up in my search engine, so I decided to send an email request for more information. Was I surprised when I not only received a response, but Shawn Schindler herself personally called me to discuss details and budgeting! Shawn was able to design a wedding in my budget (which I never thought would be possible), that was much more than I could have imagined on my own! On top of that, she took time out of her busy schedule to travel from Raleigh to Emerald Isle (approx 3 hr trip) over Easter weekend to meet with my mother and I and in-laws to personally get an overview of the wedding site and all plans thus far! Shawn arrived to our wedding weekend with her assistant Leigh Ann (sorry for any spelling errors), and together they organized the mischevious groomsmen, kept a pregnant bridesmaid and ailing guests comfortable, AND dealt with a very stressed-out bride! I almost wish I could do the whole thing over again, that's how wonderful it was! If any of you have any questions or concerns about Shawn Schindler or her services, just ask any of the brides who used her. I'm sure they will tell you the same thing I am - Your Special Day was the best wedding decision I made (apart from choosing an amazing husband of course;))!

In a word, Shawn was fabulous! I am a retired Army officer, I know how to plan and execute large operations. However, that being said I have never planned a wedding for my only daughter! Quite honestly, I did not expect the range on emotions during this process. It became apparent to me in January (the wedding was in June) that I needed some help planning the finer details. I did a Google search and fortunately for me I found Shawn. It was one review in particular that stuck me, basically a mom wrote that she enjoyed her daughter's wedding day because Shawn took care of everything. When we met Shawn the bridesmaid's gowns had not been ordered. Shawn looked at my daughter and said, "This concerns me, you must get them ordered immediately!" The dresses were ordered the next day! We went over the list of vendors that we had already selected and Shawn gave a thumbs up on each one, again we were lucky to have made some good selections. Shawn gave me a list of vendors for those items we hadn't selected, it was very helpful. The florist, Expressions of Love was great! Shawn met us to select the linens for the reception. We had made some selections before she arrived. She said, "Those look nice do you mind if I pull a couple other items?" She came back with some tablecloths I would never have selected, again the right choice. As we left my daughter said, "Mom, what would it have looked like if Shawn hadn't helped us?" I told her it would have looked fine, now it would look stunning! I anticipated that there might be an issue with my daughter's hair, so I arranged with Shawn the day before the wedding for a hair dresser to be at the house. When she came home from getting her hair done, she was in tears. A call to Shawn and the hair dresser arrived earlier at the house! When my daughter left the house her hair looked great! My husband and I arrived at the reception site The Cotton Room about 45 minutes prior to the start of the reception. When we walked in Shawn came up to us and walked us all around. I know it was a busy time for her, but she took the time. It was so nice to walk around and see all of the little touches, honestly one of the best memories of the day.
I know this is a bit long, but you need to understand what a truly wonderful job Shawn did. The day of the wedding I did not worry about a thing, because I knew Shawn would deal with any and all issues that came along. Shawn in a true professional! If you are looking for a wedding or event planner, look no further, call Shawn, you will not be disappointed. My brother-in-law said, "I've been to 45 weddings, this was the best one ever!" It was because of Shawn that my daughter's wedding is such a wonderful memory!!!

A wedding what stress. Mom of the bride in New York, bride and groom in North Carolina. I was beginning to think that non of us would enjoy the day. Then I made a decision, and it was one of the best decisions I had made. I hired YSD for the day of. What a relief, Emily and Dawn did an incredible job of making sure that everything was on track and most of all that the bride was happy.

All I need to say is - yes, Emily at YSD is incredible. In a high pressure scenario like a wedding you want someone who is nice yet effective - Emily and Amanda were both of those things. If you are looking to get a wedding planner and are on the fence about it, don't be. I highly recommend haveing one, at least for the month of the wedding. I don't how my wedding would have gone as smoothly and be as enjoyable for myself and my husband if we had had to worry about all the things the planners dealt with. Get a wedding planner! Words can hardly describe the joy and amazing peace our family had throughout the planning process and on the day of our daughter's wedding. As a mother who was told by doctors she would not have children, let's just say the marriage of our only daughter was a VERY BIG DEAL. Shawn has been a family friend for many years, and we completely trusted her to help us plan and organize the most special and memorable wedding day. The wedding took place this past weekend, and I'd like to share three things that any bride-to-be may find helpful to know.

1. Not only did Shawn recommend vendors, help plan the ceremony, nail down details, flow, reception layout, etc., but she labored behind the scenes with all vendors to help us with pricing and ensure all contracts were honored on the day of - as we simply basked in the beauty of the moment and enjoyed the celebration with family and friends.

2. A friend at Bible study asked me how was the whole planning process, and how was the wedding. With a huge smile I told her the truth, "It was absolutely wonderful - start to finish!" She said I am the first person who has ever said that, but that most people found it to be a very stressful process.

3. (This one is the most important and meaningful.) Our daughter, just before she got into the car to leave with her new husband, turned to hug me and her dad good-bye. With deep emotion she said to us, "It was the most perfect day! Everything was even more perfect than I had hoped it would be! Thank you!" And yes, there were tears and big hugs, as well as big sighs of contentment and gratitude.

Shawn and Michelle made our daughter's special day even more special and memorable. Many of our guests commented on the beauty of the venue (Portofino Estates in Clayton), how delicious the food was (Unforgettable Food Affairs) and what a magnificent wedding it was. I highly recommend Shawn and her staff at Your Special Day - if you want a smooth-flowing, joy-filled and truly special event!

I am the mother of the bride. My daughter and her now husband were engaged in April and decided that August was the best time for them to get married. That basically gave us 4 months to plan an out of town wedding !!!

To say I was panicked was putting it mildly ! My daughter and I were beginning to do some preliminary planning ( she living in Raleigh and I in South Carolina). We went into a bridal store in Raleigh to look at dresses and I asked about wedding planners. I was given Shawn's card and told that she was the best ! My daughter was not too keen on having any outside help because she had a vision for her day and didn't want someone else to plan it !!

After two days of wedding planning, on the third day, I called Shawn at 8:30 am. After apologizing profusely for calling so early, I told her my situation and that I needed help with a capital H ! I felt an immediate bond with her and though she was leaving to go out of town that morning, she took the time to go through the process with me and calmed me down and assured me that the task at hand was not the impossible thing I thought it was !!
I hired Shawn for day of co-ordination, but along with that came all the phone calls we needed to get advice and direction. She gave us vendor recommendations and feedback.
My daughter had the most beautiful wedding ever....it screamed her personality and wonderful taste. She and her groom made all the big decisions for their wedding day and reception. Shawn guided me through all the other details.......for which I am forever grateful.

Two weeks before the wedding my daughter and I and Shawn and our caterer sat down together to finalize all the details. After the meeting my daughter told me how grateful she was that we had Shawn to help us. Shawn was the glue that held everything together for us. Although my daughters plan was gorgeous, Shawn was able to suggest the finishing touches that completed the plan !
The week of the wedding Shawn took over all the vendors and any coordination that was left to take of. We were able to relax and spend that time together as a family.
The wedding day went so smoothly with Shawn and Michelle's calm and professional manner. My husband and I were able to relax and leave everything to them. It was truly a blessing for all of us to have the day and evening in their capable hands. We were able to be with our famliy and friends and enjoy the moment.
Calling her that morning was one of the smartest moments of my life !!

Having never been involved with planning a wedding we had no idea where to even begin with the process when I got engaged. With both my mother and myself having very demanding full-time jobs, we knew we could not plan a large wedding on our own. We talked with several planners before meeting with Shawn. We knew almost immediately she was the planner for us. She is friendly and professional. She makes you feel like you are the only person in the world and caters to your every need.
We had a guest list of over 300. Her staff handled all the rsvps and made our day the most memorable day ever.

I cannot begin to express my gratitude to Shawn and the rest of Your Special Day.
They were so nice and receptive and are able to tackle anything!
I had a somewhat complicated wedding (the dinner was before the ceremony-meaning that the reception hall had to be flipped completely over in a 20 minute time span for 250 people!!!) and she pulled it off BEAUTIFULLY.

My whole family, my husband's whole family are still amazed at how well she handled everything.

I highly HIGHLY recommend!

Emily was amazing. We had the wedding in our backyard. Emily worked out all the logistics of having a ceremony and with in less than an hour reception set up for 170 people in the same spot. She kept everyone doing what they were suppose to in order for things to run smoothly. We wanted sparklers at the departure but had so many people leaving early that she set up in a 5 minute window a fake departure in order to get the pictures we wanted. Her helper Leigh Ann was amazing jumping in to change my daughters diaper so my dress would not get messed up. They truly did everything and more to give me the wedding of my dreams. Thank you Emily and Your Special Day.

There aren't enough words to describe how invaluable Shawn and Your Special Day were to us during the planning of our wedding. At the time I lived in New York, my fiancé lived in Ohio, and we were planning a wedding in Raleigh, North Carolina! Just the thought of planning this day was very overwhelming. As we began the interview process to find a wedding planner we found Shawn's website and decided to give her a call. From the first phone call, my husband and I really connected with Shawn! I shared my theme and ideas with her and she immediately went into "plan mode!" She was able to understand my vision and make our dream wedding a reality!

Whenever we needed to fly down for some "power planning," Shawn made sure everything was organized and that all of our questions were answered! She introduced us to great vendors that were able to work around our hectic schedules! She stayed on top of everything...allowing us to focus on other important things!

The day of our wedding was an absolute dream! When we walked into our reception room...we were speechless! Everything was perfect down to the tiniest detail! We started on time and everything ran incredibly smoothly! My parents were able to enjoy the day with me instead of running around. Having my family near made the day that much more enjoyable! My mom tells all of her friends "I didn't have to do anything, except be there for my daughter!" Our guests are still talking about how much fun they had at our wedding! We know that it would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of Shawn and her team!

I don't know how we can put into words what a blessing it was to have Your Special Day and Shawn help us plan our wedding! We are a military family stationed in Europe and were a bit worried at the thought of planning a wedding in NC from Europe! Shawn was amazing - she is truly a professional and an expert at what she does. She thinks of things that we would have never thought about and reminded us to do things that the blogs/websites will not tell you to do.

She was ALWAYS available and easy to reach - even from Europe! She responded to our emails and kept us in the loop through the entire process - her goal was always to make our vision a reality and she truly succeeded. We could not have pulled it off without her, and knowing that she was there with her team on our big day removed so much stress that we did not need! A wedding is stressful for the bride and groom no matter what, but there are little details and hiccups along the way that you should not have to stress over - Shawn makes this happen!

We have not only found an awesome event planner through this experience, but I do think we have found a friend. I would recommend (and already have) that anyone I know, regardless of budget and extent of help needed, contact Shawn first. This was my second daughters wedding. I did not have a wedding planner for my first daughter and I can truly say hiring this company was the best choice I ever made. Shawn was wonderful to work with. She was always there for me when I needed anything. I was able to enjoy this wedding in a way that was not possibe for me at my first daugters wedding. Shawn was very personable and I felt like I had been knowing her for years. At the same time she was as professional as they come. Since my daughter lived in Washington DC, Shawn delt with me most of the time but never forgot that this was Shannon's wedding and not mine. She maintained contact with the bride and groom at all times and was sure to facilitate their vision as well as mine. That is not easy to times when haveing to work with our scenario. She helped me to find venders that could also make our vision a reality. By profession,I am an interior designer so I know all about taking a vision to reality. It is not always the easiest thing to do, but Shawn never missed a beat. When it was time to turn all the details over to Shawn, she made it very easy for me. I am not use to giving up control of situations but I had the upmost confidence in Shawn. I did not worry about a thing from that point on. A couple of times I tried to interfere at the reception and Shawn helped me to go back to having a good time and let her take care of the details.
Since the wedding I have had many phone calls, letters and cards from people saying that Goldsboro has never seen a wedding or reception like ours and impressed they were with all the details and how easily they seemed to flow. Believe me its not easy to put to cultures together and make it look like they go together. Shawn was instramental in that indeavor. Since my husband and his family is from India it was imperative to brings aspects from his culture into the wedding and reception. I gave Shawn all the details that she would be working with from the decorations to Indians who are all great photographers and she made it work. Never once did I get frazzeled and for me that is a great accomplishment and I owe it all to God and Shawn. What a great time I and many others had and I would recommend Your Special Day Weddings to anyone!!

My husband and I were married in May and everything was perfect. I had always thought that I would be able to do all the planning by myself. Right after we were engaged we went to one of the bridal shows, which can be pretty overwhelming. There was a girl (Kristen Trexler) who seemed genuinely interested in us and who wasn't trying to oversell the business. After speaking with her for a few minutes and finding out that they offer wedding weekend services, I decided that maybe I could use some help. Unfortunately Kristen wasn't able to assist Shawn with our wedding. Thankfully, another assistant (Emily) was just as helpful the weekend of the wedding. It was great that we didn't always have to get together, but that we could just touch base once in a while to know where everything stood. The week before the wedding, I turned over everything we had and all of our vendor contracts to Shawn and she took it from there. Everything was taken care of by Shawn and Emily. My family, who wasn't real crazy at first about using a planner, told us after the wedding how smart we were to have used Shawn because they were free to have a good time and not worry about anything. We were planning a wedding to take place in Raleigh, NC while living in AL. Without Shawn, we could not have pulled this wonderful day together. Shawn was there every step of the way, from letting us know what step to take next to recommendations for vendors. Her experience really showed on the day of the wedding. Everything went extremely smooth, no problems, no drama (that we know of), perfection!

My husband and I got married 2 years ago and Shawn is still a part of our lives. I met her at a friends wedding and instantly liked her. She was very warm and easy to talk to, and now she is helping my sister plan her wedding. I can't even put into words how much she helped me, not only from the very first day we met, but all the way through to the big day. There are so many behind the scene actions that were taken to make everything run so smoothly, I truly believe our day was perfect because of her. She is very detailed and organized, so nothing slips through the cracks... And probably the best thing about Shawn is that she really cares about her brides, your not just a number or another event, she really makes you feel special. She helps you make your wedding your own, taking your ideas and making that day your day. No wedding is the same, and she's amazing about keeping it contoured to your personality, your wants and needs.. After all your wedding day is all about you! I highly recommend Shawn-She truly is wonderful!

Working with Shawn was the best decision we made about our wedding and she made all the other decisions a breeze as well! Shawn and her team were a joy to work with and even with an indecisive bride like I was pulled it all together and made our wedding the perfect day and everything we dreamed it would be. We still look back at that day and how smoothly everything went off and remember that it was the most fun wedding that we could have had or have been to since! I would highly recommend Shawn and her company to any bride looking to get married and would say without a doubt that having a wedding planner is the way to go! Thank you so much Shawn!

We loved working with Shawn! She was very professional and has great vendor recommendations for us. On my wedding day, all I had to worry about was getting up in time to make my hair appointment! The set up of the reception was perfect and exactly as I imagined. I have recommended Your Special Day to anyone I hear is engaged. Shawn was a great help in making any "executive decisions" as well.

Shawn and Emily were the best wedding planners I could have ever asked for. I had a picture of what I wanted my wedding day to look like and they were able to take my discombobulated explanations and turn it into the most beautiful event I could have ever imagined. The wedding day went by like a breeze and I had to do nothing but sit back and enjoy the wait. I had always heard the horror stories about everything going wrong last minute and the bride running around like a chicken with her head cut off, but with Shawn and Emily, the sky could have fallen down and when it was time for me to walk down the aisle I never would have known. Shawn especially, but both Shawn and Emily are masters of their trade, providing women with the wedding of their dreams.

While living in Florida, I was worried about planning a wedding in North Carolina. When looking for a wedding coordinator, I was given the name Shawn, with Your Special Day, by other brides and vendors. Your Special Day made planning fun and not stressful at all! It felt as if I was planning it in town rather than states away. When I would be able to come in town for a short weekend or two, I would give them a few hours time that I could squeeze in appointments. Those few hours were always incredibly productive and full of exciting choices and details.

The week before the wedding, the staff of Your Special Day completely takes over everything. They allow you and your family to be special guests of the wedding weekend rather than worrying about time, details, and potential problems. It was so nice for us to relax and not have to think during the weekend...just embrace it!

Our wedding day was the most beautiful day of our lives for many reasons. Your Special Day made it possible for us to enjoy every minute of it. Thank you Your Special Day...especially Shawn!!!!! I would recommend them to anyone!

For the past 10 months, I have been obsessively focused on my wedding day. Making plans, calls, getting quotes, doing interviews, picking food, flavors, colors, etc. I thought I could do it all. A few months before the wedding - I panicked. I realized that in all my obsessiveness - I could not possibly do it all. I called Shawn Schindler at Your Special Day Weddings & Events. She gave me a lifesaver - Kristen Trexler!!!! Kristen researched my plan, fixed the problems, totally took control without hesitation. I was afraid to relax... but she put me & my fiance at ease. My wedding and reception were PERFECT -- and I have Kristen Trexler to thank for that! Everything was beautiful, streamlined, organized, problems were resolved without my knowledge of there ever being a problem. Kristen is AMAZING!!!! She did everything I needed and did it perfectly! My guests had a great time (they're still talking about it!), and Tim and I had the most beautiful, perfect wedding day!!! I couldn't have dreamed of a more perfect wedding. Thank you Kristen!!!! My daughter wanted a wedding planner as she was getting married in Emerald Isle, NC. Anna lives in Florida and I live in NY. I was not convinced at first but reluctantly agreed. As the day drew nearer Shawn Schindler was invaluable to the planning and executing of my daughter's wedding. Shawn helped us find other professionals, florist, DJ, lights, etc. that made my daughter's wedding vision come to life! She dealt with all the last minute problems, a difficult venue manager, a light rain a half hour before the outside ceremony, etc. and made it possible for me to just enjoy the day. Knowing what I do now, I would hire her without reservation.

I had a great experience with my planner throughout the entire process. She provided me with high quality vendors to select from and made sure everything went off without a hitch. She was there every step of the way, and I didn't have to worry about anything going wrong on the day of the wedding because I knew she was there to make sure everything went smoothly. I had multiple guests tell me that it was the best wedding they had been to including some who have worked as vendors for other weddings. Another guest also said it was the best wedding he had been to in 60 years. I am so thankful my planner was there throughout the entire process and cannot imagine having done it without her!

Overall, Your Special Day was invaluable in the weeks leading up to and on the day of the wedding. They kept everything organized and running smoothly and helped make the ceremony and reception look beautiful. They took care of all the little details, which is incredibly helpful in the last couple weeks. While some of their vendor recommendations were off the mark, I made great connections with a couple of them and they were all wonderful to work with. Shawn is great, but she is very busy, so getting in touch with her can be difficult. Also, I was expecting her to be there the day of, but she had an awards ceremony to attend, so one of her other coordinators took over three weeks before the wedding. The other coordinator did a good job, but I was expecting Shawn.

Not the best...but not the worst

When I got engaged, I knew I would need help with planning my wedding. I called a few places and I found someone I liked. When I talked to her the first time, she gave me the energy I was looking for, however, when I called her back to confirm, it felt different. While planning my wedding and throughout the process, I felt as though I wasn't as important to her as a client. Yes, I did have her as a part-time planner (which is a step down from a full-wedding planner but a step up from a "day of coordinator"), and maybe I was expecting to much. I just felt like because my budget wasn't what she was use to, then she couldn't provide me the guidance I needed. She did provide an excellent florist, table linens, cake designer and DJ and for that I am thankful (they were awesome!). But when I would call or email, it would be days before she got back to me. I even had to send reminder texts or emails about things. It got to the point, where I only called her when I didn't know what to do. Yes, I know I am also not your only bride, but for someone that has never gotten married before and doesn't know the process, you need someone to call and I didn't get that from her. During the rehearsal dinner, she came off a little too strong to my bridal party when they asked questions. I DID NOT appreciate that. The day of the wedding, it was during Hurricane Michael. I was expecting her to be there at least by noon. She didn't show up until 2:00 and the wedding was at 6:00 pm. There was things going on that weren't right and she wasn't there to help facilitate. She just wasn't personable. It wasn't what you see in the movies. There were things we talked about that I wanted for the ceremony and reception, such as candles around the altar, they were not there. She didn't inform the guests about signing the guest book or about the candy apple wedding favors. I had my guests coming up to me to let me know! I didn't feel a relationship with her, I felt I wasn't a priority and my wedding didn't matter to her.

Shawn did not contact us until 30 days prior to the wedding. Would not make a timeline for the wedding for us which is very important! Not too flexible in receiving new ideas. She seemed too busy to give us her time. Not the best experience. Will not recommend.

Pushy, opinionated, and unprofessional

We sincerely and emphatically insist you use a coordinator OTHER THAN Shawn Schindler Events. If you value a stress-free day that is entirely your own, coordinated by a person who does not talk badly about your wedding in front of your guests, run the other way. Fast.

We initially hired Shawn when she set herself apart from other coordinators we interviewed with her knowledge that in North Carolina, unlike other states, your officiant cannot be ordained by the Universal Life Church. One year later, we can firmly say that was the only value she brought to our planning process and wedding day.

Beginning at our first meeting with Shawn where we were to select rental linens and other tabletop items, we got our first taste of her pushy nature and desire to make your wedding her own. She selected linens so outside my minimalist and classic comfort zone that my friends, mom, and mother-in-law were all surprised that we would choose them. As a people pleaser, I thought I should try them out, but quickly scheduled a new appointment, without Shawn, where our rental consultant commented on how even she thought Shawn’s selections were not my style whatsoever.

Fast forward to six weeks before our wedding, I began reaching out to Shawn with more frequency, as our wedding day was quickly approaching. Vendors were asking me for a wedding day timeline, and Shawn told me after multiple requests that she would create one, but not yet, and then later said she would have it by our final walkthrough, which was scheduled for 16 days before our wedding day. Around this time, I began to wonder at what point we would become somewhat of a priority to her as clients.

At our walkthrough, she still did not have a timeline created for us, but continued to push her thoughts and opinions for our day on me. She tried to convince us to order a small sheet cake in addition to our three tier wedding cake (we ended up going home with the full top tier, even though our bakery will bake you a small cake on our first anniversary), which we knew was unnecessary. She acted as though my selection of easels to hold a welcome and seating chart sign were wrong, was quick to show me the venue’s options (which I had already seen), so I patiently went with her to view them and then told her they are not my style, which is why I purchased the easels I did. Shawn also told me, as we discussed the pairings and order of wedding party in the processional, that she would do it my way if that’s what I wanted, but her way is best. This was only the first of several times she would use those exact words with me.

Following our final walkthrough, she started creating our timeline and emailed it to me to review. Everything regarding processional, recessional, and other various details were incorrect and not at all what we had discussed at the walkthrough. Additionally, I had emailed her several detailed documents prior to this that included pairings and orders of bridal party and family members and where they would stand or sit for the ceremony. Clearly, she didn’t bother to read them. From there, several emails full of discrepancies followed, and the frustration on both sides was evident. This resulted in a phone call to “clear the air” in which Shawn and my husband did most of the talking, with me chiming in just to reiterate and correct things we had previously discussed, and to mention that we re-read her contract and found that she will provide a timeline the week of our wedding and that she could have just told us this any of the times we asked her about the timeline.

At our rehearsal, Shawn was extremely unprofessional and highly passive aggressive. So much so, that my bridesmaids and our family members still bring it up to us. She gave a speech saying that “some things we will see in this wedding may be unusual but this is Luke and Katie’s day and we will do what they want.” Those “unusual” things included bridesmaids and groomsmen walking down the aisle together in pairs, rather than each groomsman and each bridesmaid walking down the aisle individually, and the bridesmaids and groomsmen who were standing furthest from bride and groom walking down first. Our bridal party had to ask us after what she was talking about regarding the unusual things, because every wedding we have been in and attended, across several states, has operated the exact same as ours.

Throughout the year, my husband and I kept trying to reassure ourselves about Shawn by telling ourselves that on wedding day, she would get the job done and do it well. Of course, this was not the case.

On wedding day, Shawn’s level of unprofessionalism reached new heights when she talked badly about our wedding on the patio during cocktail hour within earshot of our guests. Our guests of course told us about this rude behavior. Behavior aside, Shawn was clueless about details she should have known and shouldn’t have had to bother me or my mom with. She had a picture of what my cake was supposed to look like (traditional white frosted cake), so she should have known that a naked cake was wrong, and had the bakery fix it on her own, rather than making me aware of it and having to direct her to have the bakery fix it. When handing out corsages to mothers and grandmothers, Shawn gave one to an elderly family member who was not supposed to wear one, leaving my grandmother without a corsage. Shawn then brought this issue to my mom, rather than asking beforehand to clarify who was intended to wear a corsage or just solving it herself. With my bridesmaids and family being fully looped in beforehand regarding Shawn’s attitude and behavior, they were ready to jump in and ensure that things ran smoothly and according to my plan. Evidently, Shawn didn’t like that, and gave my bridesmaids a great deal of attitude when they helped me do things that she must have assumed she would do, such as bustle my dress or remove my veil.

At the end of the night, just as my husband and I were about to walk out the door for our exit, Shawn calls out to ask me if I want to keep my bouquet - which I had already paid to preserve and my mom knew to take with her at the end of the night. This resulted in me, panicked, asking my photographer, while sitting in the getaway car with my husband, to be sure that my mom got the bouquet to take home with her. As far as guest transportation, five days before our wedding, Shawn is telling me that the schedule I’ve had in place isn’t ideal and we should change it to the bus making only one trip from the host hotel to the venue prior to the ceremony. After some back and forth, she called me to say she created a schedule that would work (the schedule I had already designed, I might add) and that she would work with the company and driver. Instead, on wedding day, she was telling guests, including the best man, to get on the bus BEFORE our send off, because it was the only transportation and it was only making one trip. This was NOT the case; at least it wasn’t supposed to be. To this day, we are unsure if she actually directed the driver and company to follow the correct schedule, or decided once again to take matters into her own hands and do things her way, directing our guests to leave before they needed to, thus missing our reception exit and send off. Following the reception, she packed cards and gifts into my parents’ vehicle, as instructed, but for whatever reason, took it upon herself to remove the cards from the card box, causing confusion about missing cards.

Overall, my wedding day and planning experience was only made more stressful by hiring Shawn as a coordinator. She is narrow minded and set in her ways. She likes to tell you and your wedding party that she has been doing this for 23 years, but I cannot fathom how when she is so close-minded to anything that may not be how she would do things. My friends, family, and photographer were the real MVPs concerning ensuring our day ran smoothly. If I had the option to give zero stars in my review, I would. I cannot stress this enough - DO NOT hire Shawn Schindler Events.
