Perfectly located, BEAUTIFUL event space
We were looking for an open, bright, modern-looking space in the heart of Charlottesville for my rehearsal dinner. Old Metropolitan Hall (OMH) delivered in a BIG way. The space is beautiful - high ceilings, mirrored walls, lights, and a lower level that has a speakeasy feel. I was going for a "modern glam" feel for my rehearsal dinner and OMH was the perfect space. It's located right on the Downtown Mall, so it's easy to get to (lots of street parking and garages available), and the location means guests have easy access to other restaurants/bars after the event is over. Sarah was SO easy to work with, super nice and very understanding of our needs; and the price was very reasonable. You rent out the whole space for like 8 hours, so it was a great deal. I will recommend OMH to anyone looking for an event space in Charlottesville!Sent on 09/13/2019

Beautiful venue is a great location
We had a wonderful experience planning and hosting our wedding ceremony and reception at Old Met. Our main contact, Sarah, was extremely responsive, friendly, and professional throughout the entire planning process. She helped to minimize our stress throughout the process and shared great ideas with us based on her experiences working with other couples. We always felt like we were in good hands! The venue itself is beautiful and felt very true to us/our style. The venue was a great size for our guest list (approximately 60 guests); it provided plenty of space, yet still felt intimate. The space would also work well for a slightly larger guest list. The location is extremely convenient for guests with hotels and restaurants within walking distance on the downtown mall. We also loved the fact that our guests were able to experience the Downtown Mall and the heart of Cville. Sarah at OMH was a pleasure to work with, super responsive, and was very helpful with any and all questions we had. The space is super versatile, gorgeous on it's own but easy to decorate to really wow, and is full of character. I highly recommend hiring Steph Saunders at Old Met as your coordinator if you need one, she is an absolute pleasure to work with. She kept us calm for our big day, was very organized, and we couldn't have done it without her.

The Old Metropolitan Hall is the perfect venue for a wedding ceremony and reception. By itself, The Old Met is beautiful with so many special details that it does not require many additions. My wedding had approximately 50 guests and we were able to elegantly push the tables back to seat everyone for the ceremony. At dinner we used their amazing farmhouse tables that are certainly worth the additional small fee. There was not a detail that wasn’t considered when designing this space. The downstairs made the perfect reception space and we were able to dance the night away using their surround sound that was perfect for not only the reception but also the ceremony. I mostly used their recommended vendors and they did not disappoint. Most importantly was their genuine excitement and investment into my wedding. That credit specifically goes to Sarah, their Events and Venue Manager. She was outstanding and so much fun to work with. They also have wedding planning services that paired me with Steph Saunders, at Steph Saunders Wedding and Events for my day of coordination. My husband, Kurtis, and I got married at Old Met last weekend on Nov. 4, 2017. It was the MOST beautiful event we could have expected, and the venue is so convenient. I grew up in Charlottesville, but we live in Los Angeles now, so we wanted a place that would be great for out of town guests to get the whole Cville experience. Now, let me start on the staff! Sarah is one of the most amazing people to work with. She truly made us feel at ease, and we feel like we have a new friend in her. Her southern charm and patience is unmatched. We ended up hiring Steph to be our day-of coordinator. Our wedding day wouldn't have been the same without her. She's creative, organized, and calming. My mom couldn't stop talking about how wonderful she is.
Kurtis and I are thrilled about how everything turned out, and as cliche as it sounds, I wouldn't change anything about the day. It was literally a perfect depiction of the two of us as a couple.

Amazing, amazing, amazing! We held our 90+ rehearsal dinner at Old Met and planned the event from Colorado, having only been to Charlottesville once. We are so blessed to have found this venue and especially Sarah who handled everything from start to finish. The space is fabulous! Not only is there the main space for their beautiful long wood tables, but we loved the downstairs space/bar area for appetizers/drinks and the "after hours" party. We used their projector for a slideshow with microphone for toasts and Sarah made all the accommodations easy and stress-free. The space is elegant enough that decorations are really not necessary, but we chose to decorate the front window and again, Sarah had great suggestions. It's a great feeling after the event to be able to say that you wouldn't change a thing. Thank you Old Met for making this memorable for our family and friends!Sent on 05/21/2017

We had our wedding ceremony and reception at Old Met and it was everything I hoped it would be- classic, elegant, and timeless. We heard rave reviews from our guests about the venue and how unique and beautiful everyone thought it was! The only thing I would give a slight warning about is the number of people it can really hold comfortably. We originally thought we were looking at having a wedding of ~100 people. When we sat down to figure out a floor plan, we realized that the highest number that can fit comfortably in the upstairs space using the farm house tables was ~80-84 people (we didn't want to have to decide who would sit downstairs away from the larger group). This was no problem for us as we ended up wanting to have a very small and intimate wedding anyway. We ended up with a guest count of 65 and it was perfect! Dinner was comfortable and not cramped upstairs and dancing downstairs felt intimate and private!
Ultimately the space was perfect for us! We loved the farm house tables (paid an extra fee for them, but it was nice they were on site and not coordinating through another vendor), and the fact that all the chairs were included in the price (unlike some venues). We also felt like the price was very reasonable- we chose to get married on a Sunday for the half-price cost. In retrospect, we were very happy we chose Sunday for our wedding because the downtown mall was much quieter compared to a Friday or Saturday- it felt private and very "Charlottesville" without all of the problems finding parking!
We were thrilled with our classic wedding at Old Met!!

I cannot recommend Old Metropolitan Hall enough! We had a post-elopement party with approximately 100 people in January. The decor is timeless- neither fussy nor bland like many venues. The location is perfect- there are plenty of places to stay within walking distance and plenty of bars for after-parties. Everyone we worked with was helpful and knowledgeable and the process went so smoothly!Sent on 01/24/2015
One tip I have for anyone hosting an event at Old Metropolitan Hall: A company named Stay Charlottesville (www.staycharlottesville.com) rents out apartments directly above the venue. The apartments are beautiful and were a perfect "home base". Our cousins with young children stayed in one so when their children got tired they could take turns going up to the apartment to watch the kids.

We had our 80+ person Rehearsal Dinner at Old Met, and it was absolutely beautiful! Old Met has a gorgeous upstairs location for dinner, and a fun, speak-easy feel downstairs area for drinks and dancing. We used both floors at our event and each one was perfect for its purpose. Dinner upstairs, where we also did gifts, speeches, and a slideshow (they have a screen and a projector) and drinks and dancing downstairs. Definitely recommend this venue for your event! We used Old Metropolitan Hall as a venue for our Moonlighting App Launch Party. The venue was spectacular and the Old Met Hall team was extremely responsive and accommodating to all of our needs. Old Met was the perfect spot for an elegant downtown wedding. We couldn't have asked for a better location on Charlottesville's Downtown Mall (plus no need to bus anyone anywhere like with a vineyard)! The space inside is beautifully decorated, easily customizable, and the split levels created a fun opportunity to do a lounge and bourbon bar downstairs and keep the upstairs free for the dance floor. The best part of all was the OMH staff. I couldn't have asked for a better, more responsive, or more professional events team. Our wedding was a once in a lifetime event but if it wasn't, we would go back to Old Met over and over again.Sent on 05/14/2014

The venue was just perfect
Old Met is stunningly beautiful! It doesn't need any decor - we ended up just having some votives and small vases of flowers throughout the cocktail tables and that's all we needed in the space, which helped a lot with our budget.Sent on 07/13/2019
What I also loved about it is the flexibility of the space and that we could bring to life different vibes throughout our wedding reception. For our wedding, the street level floor ended up being a lovely cocktail reception vibe (a little more formal feeling, conversation could happen); the downstairs was the lively dancing; and the outdoor patio was laid back with people playing cornhole on it. Everyone had a blast because they could find their own space to be comfortable in!
Sarah from Old Met was also very easy to work with, and they are very professional when working with each of your vendors. Highly recommend Old Met!

I'd highly recommend using Old Met for your wedding. We got married here in mid-August 2016 and were looking for a venue that would offer a true "downtown experience." We wanted our guests to be able to walk from their hotel to the church to our reception and couldn't have asked for a better space. What made it even better is the service the Old Met team provided, they were hands down one of our best venders, incredibly responsive accommodating and just a pleasure to work with. I couldn't have asked for anything more. The only hiccup the night of the event was the mic didn't work so it was hard for our guest to hear our toasts. In case you want to know: We had about 80 guests and used the farm tables in two long rows upstairs. It didn't feel crowded and looked beautiful. We served a family style meal so the table arrangements were perfect for us. We had our band and dancing downstairs which offered two nice spaces for people to congregate. It's a bit of a non-traditional venue but we loved it and would highly recommend. Our service was offsite at The Haven. We also used the three apartments upstairs for the bridal party to get ready and spend the weekend, they were perfect.

We loved having Old Metropolitan Hall as our reception venue! We had our ceremony next door at The Haven and then walked over to Old Met for the cocktail hour, dinner and dancing. It worked so well for us because we wanted long farm tables for our guests and we wanted the security of an indoor location in case the weather got bad. Plus, we love the downtown mall! They can really only fit 100 people for a seated dinner in there, so this wouldn't be a good choice if you're looking to invite a lot of guests. We had about 85 guests and it felt like the perfect fit. The best thing about this venue was that the dancing/bar area is downstairs, separated from the dinner area. Our more elderly guests were happy to sit upstairs drinking coffee and chatting while the rest of us broke it down on the dance floor. Also, the Old Met staff was very helpful throughout the day and during the reception! We chose to have our wedding on a Sunday of a holiday weekend, which was $1k cheaper than a Friday or Saturday in peak season (even though it was a holiday!). The cost was VERY reasonable, and looked so completely beautiful without us having to do much decoration at all.Sent on 08/16/2016

Hosted my daughter's wedding reception (130 guests, stationed dinner) and it worked out wonderfully! We live about 3hours away from Charlottesville, so that made it a bit more challenging to decorate, but we were well organized and chose to pay an additional fee to be able to get in for two hours the morning of the wedding. We were 98% complete by the time the two hours were up, so it was simple to do the last few things during the allotted three hour window. That was important to me because I wanted to be spending the time before the wedding with my daughter, not decorating.Sent on 08/08/2014
Kelsey, the staff assigned to be with us throughout the day was wonderful. She was attentive, but not intrusive and was able to give us some great advice and guidance during the day. We felt we had made a new friend by the time we locked up for the night.
The location was perfect for guests and we used the Haven ( another wonderful venue) for the ceremony so guests had to only go half a block to get to the reception site. We stayed at the Omni, so getting to both venues was an easy 5 minute walk.
If you don't like attending to details yourself, I would recommend using their event coordinators if you have that in your budget. It would definitely simplify the process.
We are very happy with our choice and think most anyone would be.
