There are truly not enough great things to say about Nantahala Weddings and the amazing owner Jody. We booked the venue sight unseen due to living 4 hours away. The website shows you everything you would need to see without even being there. When we went for our first tour we were breathless as pictures of course don’t do it justice. Jody was amazing to work with from the beginning her preferred vendors list was a life saver and everyone we booked minus photographer was on there. We made life long friends from the vendors we had. Check in was a breeze and having 3 nights there with our close friends and family was exactly what we could have dreamed of. If you are looking for an all inclusive vide venue in the mountains this is your place. Nantahala weddings will always have a piece of our heart, we will visit the Mateos for years to come! -

Breathtaking venue & Incredible staff
Amazing location for the views alone, but Jess and Jody really helped in making the day incredibly special. They were both EXTREMELY accommodating even when the weather wasn't.
Not only was the venue incredibly peaceful and serene during a chaotic weekend+, but there were just so many behind the scenes details that were handled expertly by the Nantahala Weddings and Events team that I'm sure I'm not even aware of.
I hope to return frequently. -

Jess and Jody...I can't thank you enough for such a special weekend. We were able to check in early even though someone was there the day before us! The grounds were absolutely beautiful, clean, serene, and so peaceful. We did yoga with Jess the morning before the wedding at the Chapel in the Sky and it was so peaceful and she was very grounding. The grounds and houses were kept pristine clean and was just the magic we had expected. Bless them, because I am so type A and had a million and one questions and they treated me with such kindness, compassion, and patience while I planned a wedding states away. They were extremely accommodating and helped us with whatever we needed. It is just like a home rental so if you are having a large group of people there bring some paper and plastic utensils, napkins, and paper towels but that was no biggie and they let us know that!! Everything was communicated so clearly, instructions were very clear. Every recommended vendor we chose was superb. Their website links of recommended vendors important and helpful information was so detailed and beyond what any venue will ever give you. So kind, thoughtful, and considerate and they all worked so well together we did not have to worry about a thing on the day. The pictures were stunning, the grounds were a great place to hang out with our closest friends and family for the weekend and worth every cent for what you get, actually, overly an economical price for everything that you get. We were having doubts about the wedding just because of the destination part and thought maybe we should have done it somewhere else...but the second we got there to the moment we left we KNEW we made the right decision to create such a memorable, beautiful, and relaxing weekend where you can really make the place your own. Again, Jess and Jody, we cannot thank you enough, you both were so amazing and kind and thoughtful and we truly appreciate all that you offer and helped us to create.

Nantahala Wedding Venue literally took our breath away. We felt like we struck the jackpot when we found this gem—and then we met the owners, Jodie and Jess. Jackpot twice.
This was the very first venue we toured, and after the visit we knew immediately it had everything we wanted. We were looking for something different—getting married in the mountains felt perfect—and we wanted a space where our family and friends could spend more than just the wedding day together. Nantahala checked every box.
Jodie and Jess are incredibly kind, professional, and responsive. Anytime I had a question, they replied immediately or were just a phone call away. Their vendor recommendation list was fantastic (we used it heavily, and our vendor team absolutely crushed it).
Everyone had to travel for our wedding, so having it at Nantahala ended up working perfect. Having the ceremony and reception in one location made everything so seamless. The Chapel in the Sky is a bit of a hike (for the everyday person), but they offer ATV service for the bride and for elderly guests or anyone who needs assistance, which was such a thoughtful touch.
The reception space is stunning—it felt like we were tucked into a fairy cove surrounded by twinkle lights. Being in the middle of the forest also meant no noise concerns at all.
For couples with many out-of-town guests, we could not recommend more to host a rehearsal dinner or gathering on site. It allowed us to spend quality time with everyone without feeling burnt out on the wedding day.
Originally, people didn’t understand why we wanted a mountain wedding—until they saw the views. Our guests are still talking about how beautiful it was. Our wedding day was everything we dreamed of and more, thanks to this incredible venue and its amazing owners. A Place Truly Worthy of Your “I Do”
My wife and I got married at Nantahala Weddings in September 2023, and we honestly can’t say enough good things about the experience. From the moment we arrived, the setting took our breath away—Lake Nantahala and the mountains surrounding it provided the perfect, peaceful backdrop for our day.
The venue itself is magical. We used the Chapel in the Sky for our ceremony, and it felt like something out of a dream. The entire property is beautifully maintained and thoughtfully designed to create an unforgettable experience, not just for us as the couple, but for our guests as well.
The team behind the venue made everything run smoothly and truly cared about making our day special. Every detail felt personalized and intentional. We also want to give a special shout-out to our caterer, Tracey, who stepped in later in the planning process and delivered an outstanding meal. Literally every guest raved about the food, especially the appetizers and bisque, and she even went out of her way to prepare a special late-night meal for a child in our family who wasn’t feeling well. That kind of thoughtfulness speaks volumes.
Looking back, we feel incredibly lucky that we found this place. It’s not just a venue—it’s a destination that brings people together in the most beautiful way. We’ll forever be grateful we got to start our married life in such an amazing place. -

Amazing Venue
Nantahala Weddings Venue by far exceeded our expectations! The views and atmosphere at this venue are spectacular. We could not have asked for a better experience we shared here for our Elopment. The perfect wedding venue! Chapel in the Sky is absolutely stunning. We had the perfect elopement with a few friends and family. Jennifer made our dream come true with the beautifully decorated awning and she even drove our elderly guests to the top for us! She is so sweet. Jody, the owner is so wonderful too!!! She is professional, personable and strives on making what you want happen. The staff is excellent. Hands down! The bridal suite and man cave were perfect, too. This venue is the most gorgeous, hidden gem I’ve ever had the pleasure of visiting. We are grateful to be married at such a beautiful place. The memories we made there will last us a lifetime. Great place to have a wedding! My wife and I just got married at Nantahala Weddings two weeks ago and had the best time. The vendors list from Jody ( the owner) were amazing and the nicest people in the world. I would suggest Tracey Passmore for the caterer. Tracey and her husband did an amazing job with BBQ and very professional. Jodie McCord did great with the flowers and we both really enjoyed how she used a lot of natural flowers from around the area and from her very own farm. The wedding cake from Sally White was not just beautiful but also tasted like heaven. Shayla Khalife made the planning process easy and smooth on the big day. She was definitely a pleasure to work with. Last but surely not least, Mike Waller, the photographer for our wedding was a great match for us and went above and beyond! He was a pleasure to work with and went out of his way the next day to get our pictures up at Wayah Bald and the waterfall close by to the venue. On our wedding day it was raining, the one day out of the whole week but Jody was prepared with a very nice clear canopy setup at the Chapel in the Sky so we could still have our ceremony. Overall, we both were very impressed from beginning to end and couldn’t have asked for a better place to have our wedding. This Venue is a fairy tail! What dreams are made of! The owner, Jody, along with staff will do anything to make your day special. Stayed the whole weekend and was able to just relax and be present. To be surrounded by this much beauty of nature is worth 10 fold what we paid for this venue! Loved our big day and will be back to Nantahala to visit whenever we can -

Thank you so much for everything! It was exactly what we were hoping for. So much so that we want to sing a few praises.
The fie top suite is adorable! Roomy yet still quaint. We loved there was no tv! We didn’t even really mind the limited cell service. It was nice to unplug.
The arbor decor was even more beautiful than we imagined. Pastor Jack was as sweet as pie.
Everyone we met was as down to earth and welcoming as if we were in our home town.
Tracy and her husband are the sweetest and her food and set up was the perfect ending to a perfect day. We both ate things we had never eaten and it was absolutely delish! I’ve never eaten a steak with out steak sauce but hers was good to the last bite. Please send our chefs kiss to her and to sally for the cutest wedding cake!
Last but definitely not least. We cannot say enough good things about Mike. First he introduced us to some fantastic beer and pizza on Friday and on Saturday he did not disappoint. You can truly tell that he is passionate about getting those “money shots” and making his clients wishes come true. We expressed we weren’t telling anyone we eloped until we got our pictures back and two hours later Mike delivered several for us to tell everyone with. We are picture people and never have we gotten that type of service. We cannot wait to see how the rest come out!
We know we were the first to take the elopement package and we highly recommend it to anyone! It was absolutely worth it! There isn’t a bad thing we can say about the whole experience. Feel free to use us as references.

Nantahala Weddings is an absolute walking dream. The staff first & foremost immediately make it feel like home. Ms. Jody and her team are beyond amazing and take care of everything you need with a smile. The venue on its own is breathtaking. If you’re wondering if this is YOUR one , in short — yes , it absolutely is. A November wedding in the mountains couldn’t have felt more warm. Because of Nantahala Weddings , I fell in love twice.
Jody & her entire team are incredibly sweet & very professional. The cabins (honeymoon suite & Mateos) are cozy & clean. The price for everything was very affordable. The view is tremendous. The ready rooms for both the men and the women were just beautiful. & the photo opportunities are endless. I could go on for days. Book Nantahala!

Incredible venue and service!
What an incredibly magical place to have a wedding! Starting with the obvious -- the views here are SPECTACULAR. We were constantly in awe of our surroundings all three days we were at the venue, and every guest asked us how we managed to find such a gorgeous venue. Every photo and video backdrop is amazing as well, so we get to continue reliving the magic of those days.
We also can’t talk about this venue without talking about Jody -- she is just amazing. From the get-go, she was extremely responsive and helpful. She recommended several vendors (transportation, babysitter, etc.) as we were unfamiliar with the area. She worked with us and our planner in the days leading up and checked in on both days of our wedding to make sure all contingencies were in place. We could not be happier with our decision to get married at Nantahala Weddings and feel that all the amenities and Jody’s attentiveness truly exceeded all expectations! -

Beautiful Venue With Great Space For A Great Price
I booked this venue for the price, location, and beautiful views. I really loved having the venue for a couple days before the wedding so we could set up and get ready to go before the big day. Fie Top housed the bride (me) and the groom, along with a couple immediate family members, which was really convenient. There are also plenty of AirBnbs nearby for guests. The designated space for the rehearsal dinner is beautiful. The views are incredible around the entire property.
Jody, the venue owner, was great! She responded quickly to all questions and concerns we had, and went out of her way to help solve any issues we ran into. Cara, our coordinator, was recommended for the venue. She was absolutely fantastic, as well!
I recommend making sure your wedding guests are staying in the Mateos the night before and the night of your wedding so you don't have to worry about strangers at the venue.
Just be aware that almost all of the space is gravel if you have guests with trouble walking.
Overall, we had such a great experience. I highly recommend hosting your wedding here! -

Stunning Views for a wedding
After a postponement and then cancellation of my daughters wedding due to Covid restrictions, she found Nantahala Weddings for her wedding. We packed up 10 close family members and drove from Wisconsin/Illinois and had a wonderful time. The Hosts were amazing to work with and took care of everything we needed. Loved this place. Breathtaking views and wonderful service
I attended my best friend's wedding at the Nantahala Weddings & Events venue and I was blown away by the incredible views. I know from my friend and her husband that they were taken care of throughout that the entire process leading up to there wedding day. The owner of the venue, Jody, was wonderful and I will always remember her for being so kind and friendly towards my family and I. Nantahala Weddings is a dream come true. Jody has put in all the effort to make every detail of this place so well thought out and beautiful. From the unbeatable views of the mountains and Lake Nantahala, to providing a huge assortment of decorations to choose from, to the amazing amenities to stay in for several nights, the venue is immaculate. Me and my husband were looking for a dog friendly venue in the mountains and selected Nantahala as our wedding venue without visiting it until the weekend of our wedding. The whole process was still so smooth and simple. She provides all of her customers with a list of recommended vendors which made planning so easy. Our guests were easily able to find rental properties nearby and we loved that we were able to spend more than just our wedding day with our family and close friends. It was absolutely the perfect destination venue in the mountains! -

Life changing
I was married in Nantahala on July 3 2021 and when i tell you that my experience from beginning to end was absolutely Flawless. Being that I’m from New York and this location is in North Carolina I thought that this experience is going to be super hard but needless to say the owner of the Nantahala literally walk me through the whole process step by step from wedding coordinators to food, cake and flowers.She held my hand the whole way. I can’t say enough beautiful things about Nantahala and Jody because it was my dream come true place and I can’t wait to go back and revisit the beauty. -

Seriously a dream come true when it comes to having a wedding here. The views are incredible and the facilities are great. Our wedding was beyond my wildest dreams and I couldn’t of asked for a better day. Jody was super accommodating and really responsive. Everything went perfect, we got the venue for the whole weekend and could spend it with all our friends and family, rather than just one day. There’s lots for your guests to do in the area, there’s the lake, hiking, waterfalls, rafting and so much more! This venue speaks for itself. Not only is it a great location to have a wedding, but the accommodations make it an even better spot compared to other venues. Being able to stay on property at Fie Top and the Mateos allowed us more time to spend with friends and family which was a huge plus since this was a destination wedding for us. Jody has done an amazing job with the property. She's professional and very personable. Her recommendations for our other vendors helped tremendously. They were all top notch. Cara Jones (our coordinator) absolutely crushed it when it came to setting up the space; Tracey Passmore did an amazing job with catering not only our reception, but also brunch and Appalachian Wedding Photography not only took photos of our day, but also helped put together a schedule for the day. If you're looking to have a smooth wedding then these are all great folks to hire. I can't recommend them enough! Thanks again Jody! -

We had the most magical wedding weekend thanks to Jody and the rest of our vendor team. This was a destination wedding for us, so it was amazing to be able to stay on the property from Thursday to Monday. Our family and wedding party stayed in Fie Top and the Mateos on property. We loved getting to hang out with our loved ones for the entire weekend! We even got to bring our dog! The kitchen and dining space in Fie Top was the perfect place to host meals for the wedding party. Tracey Passmore was kind enough to cater a wedding day brunch as well as the reception later that evening. The food was delicious! Our entire vendor team was top notch. We loved the flexibility of being able to use any vendor we wanted. We used a mix of Jody’s recommendations and our own finds. We could not have asked for a better coordinator than Cara Jones. She is AMAZING. Definitely reach out to her if you host your wedding here. We held our ceremony overlooking the lake, but they offer other options in case of rain. Along with the venue being breathtaking, the Nantahala area offers several beautiful photo ops. We traveled to Wayah Bald and a waterfall to take photos on our wedding day (shoutout to Appalachian Wedding Photography). Because there are no time or noise restrictions, we were able to host a bonfire after party. Everyone hung out and we didn’t have to worry about packing up or leaving right away. We thoroughly enjoyed disconnecting and enjoying family, friends, and nature the entire weekend. It was the wedding of our dreams, and we are so thankful we found this place. Book this venue! You won’t regret it! -

Amazing experience!
The venue was absolutely perfect and Jody provided everything we might need. We had an incredible experience and so did all of our guests. The location and view is amazing by itself but the service and attention Jody provides puts it over the top. We definitely feel like this was money well spent and have wonderful memories to cherish because of it. Highly recommend! -

The owner, Jody, was wonderful and communicative during the entire process and even helped us find great local catering and floral services. The ceremony space has exceptional views of the mountains and lake, and is right next to plenty of cabins for guests to rent. Our guests had a great time on the lake during our wedding weekend before the ceremony. The Fie Top suite for getting ready and the catering kitchen are right next to the ceremony and reception space, making it easy to coordinate everything. I would note that the path to the ceremony space is fairly steep and made of gravel, so sensible shoes are highly recommended. Overall, the space was perfect for our intimate ceremony. -

When we were looking for a wedding venue in the North Carolina mountains, all the venues we talked to had strings attached. Then we found Nantahala Weddings and events! First it's an incredible place with the most stunning views! The owner Jodie was was such a breath of fresh air, She loves what she does and gives you INCREDIBLE recommendations for vendors, which you can use or you can find your own vendors. It's the reason we chose to get married here, besides the view. I wanted to be able to hire who we wanted to for the big day and Nantahala Weddings and events gives you that freedom!!! You can keep it simple and you will have an amazing wedding or you can put your own flare in the space and really make it your own. Where do I even begin?! From the moment we arrived at Nantahala lake we fell in love all over again. This hidden NC gem is one of the most serene, magical places I have ever been. Nantahala Weddings and Events made all my wedding dreams come true and it was absolutely perfect. If I could give them 10 stars I would. My wedding here was everything I dreamed of and more. I absolutely loved all the options to customize and choose your own vendors. I became very frustrated early on in my wedding planning process because I didn't want to have my vendors chosen for me by my venue. While Jody, the venue owner, has a list of trusted vendors (that are wonderful btw), you don't have to use them. Being based in Atlanta, we used a mixture of local vendors, Atlanta vendors, and Asheville Vendors. The venue spaces are sensational, and the views are the best in the area! Jody is absolutely amazing and such a joy to work with through the entire planning process. Not only is she professional and prompt, but you can tell she loves what she does and she loves the couples who choose Nantahala. She was able to help me so much through the planning process with recommendations and tips. The venue is in the woods in the mountains overlooking Nantahala Lake. It can be used for a wide variety of wedding styles from casual to formal (my theme was elegant bohemian!)- which I think makes it attractive for so many different brides and grooms looking for an outdoor venue. It is also completely dog friendly!! There are so many options to make it exactly what you want. Bonus, there is no end time, set schedule, or noise restrictions! The package I chose meant I had the venue Thursday - Monday so I was able to host a wide variety of wedding events (Rehearsal, Ceremony, Reception, After party bonfire, Sunday Brunch) all at my own leisure. It truly is an all in one venue at one great price! The venue has lodging options right on the site which is amazing. I was barely in the car the whole weekend! There are also several cabins within walking distance of the venue. Overall, I could not imagine having my wedding anywhere else. It truly was the best day of my life. This place is magic and I would recommend it a 100 times over! -

We had a great experience with this venue for our wedding in July 2019! The venue is located in the middle of the beautiful mountains of Nantahala. Every nature/ outdoor-lover won't be disappointed with the variety of plants around and at the venue. The owner Jody Hafey is extremly helpful, sweet and available for questions! We were able to have multiple phone calls with her which helped us a lot planning our wedding from far away (we live in New Jersey). I'd absolutely recommend this venue and also the option of taking wedding pictures at Wayah Bald (30 minutes from the venue). -

Absolute perfection!
When my fiancé proposed I knew I wanted somewhere special and outdoorsy. I looked and looked but couldn't find what I wanted. My mom suggested a destination wedding and that is how I stumbled upon this beautiful venue. I spoke with Jody and we booked this venue sight unseen and let me tell you it is stressful planning a wedding from Florida in North Carolina, but Jody made it easy. She helped and had check ins with me to see how everything was going.
When we finally made it up to the venue it was less than 3 months before the wedding and my fiancé and mom fell in love with the view and hospitality that Jody and Stephan showed us. When we showed family and friends the venue everyone asked if there was a back drop behind us because there is no way a location could be this beautiful and let me tell you it is!
The week of the wedding was stressful because we were getting married on a Monday but Cara Jones (the wedding coordinator) made that week easy! We had a phone meeting and talked for over an hour, she is easy to talk to and has a wonderful vision. She was there for me hundreds of miles away helping ease any last minute stresses. The day of our wedding it was supposed to be a 60% chance of rain and Jody and Cara had contingency plans set in place in case it did rain. They both were constantly checking the weather and were honest with me about how it looked, thankfully it didn't rain. Cara set up the reception and how she laid everything out and the way she and her daughter set it up was straight out of my dreams.
I couldn't have asked for a better venue and better team behind me. Thank you Jody and Cara you made Rob and I extremely happy and everyone that we show pictures to are jealous. You made our dream wedding come true. We can't wait to come back and visit. -

Magical mountain fairytale
There are no words for the magic of this venue and the incredible help and support you get along with it. Jody is the easiest most laid back person to ever work with. Her energy and smiles leave lasting impressions. The new ceremony site is breathtaking. She really goes above and beyond for her brides. There are tons of DIY options and some brides even use previous wedding decor. Almost all of my decor was from the venue left by other brides, and I left some for future brides as well! We even had a HUGE storm hit the night before and the tents and decor held through strong! You really need minimal decorating though, the grounds and gardens are stunning enough! There is a fire pit in the back for some s’mores, two huge tents with a dance floor, I made a little boho tent for all the kids, we had dogs there, everything was absolutely out of a fairytale! I hope everyone has the same magical experience at Nantahala. Relax, enjoy, and go with the flow!

Jody is AMAZING! She answers any e-mails incredibly quickly and always has an answer for you. The amount of decorations she has on site at the reception venue is perfect! Since I did a destination wedding, it was nice to know I had things available to me there, so I didn't have to buy things in Ohio and drag them down to North Carolina. The new lake view ceremony area is breath-taking, although we didn't use it, it was nice to have it as a back up in case the weather was not nice enough to go up to Wayah Bald the day of. Her husband, Stephan, did our ceremony. He was such a great guy to work with and the ceremony script was customized, which some of the other officiants I talked to wouldn't do. I would have my wedding there again any day! -

Beautiful Venue
Nantahala Weddings is a lovely venue that includes a lot of perks! I loved that I could rent the space Friday-Sunday at 11am. This allowed for my out-of-town guests to enjoy rehearsal dinner and brunch right near the cabins we were staying in. We had our ceremony on Wayah Bald and the photos are awesome! The only challenge of this location is lack of cell service in the mountains and areas surrounding the venue (which provides wifi); so be sure to plan accordingly! -

I had my wedding here! It was magical. Everyone was on the water every day, and able to play with kayaks, canoes, boats with tubes, and seek out the cliffs for some seriously awesome cliff jumping in to the water! The pictures were stunning in both locations: the ceremony on Wayah Bald - Appalachian Trail - and the reception at Nantahala Weddings. Everyone looked extra healthy from all the fresh air and perfect weather.
Nantahala Weddings is a hidden gem in the mountains. The summer months in Nantahala are a special time. Nowhere else in the world have I felt more relaxed.
Just don't forget your dancing shoes, the mountain air brings out a funky-crazy spark in everybody. -

My wife and I were recently married here and it was the best decision we have ever made. It is a completely unique venue! Our ceremony was at the watchtower on top of the highest peak of the mountains. It was all accessible via road so anyone can make it up there. During the ceremony, everyone had the best seat; It was a 360 view of all the Nantahala mountain range just skirting the clouds above and you could see for miles. After the ceremony, transportation was provided to the amazing wedding venue of Nantahala Weddings. Sangria, wine, and beer for the adults and an amazing spread of made-from-scratch food. The venue easily fit our entire two extended families and quickly transformed into the dance floor once the music started. Later in the night, the reception venue for Nantahala Weddings is conveniently located within walking distance to a myriad of rentable cabins situated along Lake Nantahala, which is where we spend out days before the wedding swimming, fishing, and driving boats and having fun! Nantahala Weddings provided a truly unique place for my wife and me to begin a new chapter of our lives, and had to most fun we could have to do it! I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND! -

A Wet Knot
May 3, 2021, is the day me and my Sarah of 8 years said I do at Nantahala Weddings. Coming from Florida we were impressed with the mountain landscape, rugged terrain, incredible views, and adventure activities in this area. The venue itself provided most of what we needed for our 50 person celebration, and what wasnt already on site was easy to find using the websites resource page. Our family and friends gave us kudos for finding a location and hosting an outdoor reception unlike any others, we did a brunch style party after a morning ceremony. Jody, was communicative and clear with what was expected from our end and what we expected from her and the vendors. Although we had lots of rain on our special day, the skys cleared up and made for incredible pictures at the Chapel in the Sky. All in all, the wedding was perfectly imperfect. -

Our wedding at Nantahala was absolutely stunning! This place has the absolute best views I have ever seen and an amazing setting for everything else! That reception space is so beautiful and the trees around you make you feel like you’re in a fairy wonderland. The tables were made from the trees they cut down to open up the ceremony space, which is so unique and resourceful! Jody was great and such a wonderful, calming presence in a typically crazy process. There is a lot of uphill walking at this venue, so I definitely recommend the buggy for guests who need it. The view is so worth the walk though. Getting to choose our other vendors was also wonderful because we could make the wedding our own. Shayla Khalife, our wedding planner from All the Things Events, helped a lot with finding them as well. We rented the Mateos, which I highly recommend, although I would caution you to ensure your dates at the Mateos match all the dates you have the venue for. We were kicked out of a Mateo to a different location because it had only been rented for two of the three nights we were there and got taken by another random couple (outside our wedding entirely) who needed a place to stay that night. Apart from that, though, I would definitely recommend Nantahala to any outdoor loving couple who wants mountains and lakes and all the gorgeousness NC has to offer for their wedding!Nantahala Weddings & Events's reply:

I'm so sorry you had to change from one tiny house to another. Apparently, your photographer booked tiny house 39D and only booked 2 nights and you booked another tiny house for 3 nights but stayed in 39D instead of the one you booked for yourself. The inconvenience of moving to a different tiny house would not have happened if you had stayed in the one you had booked for yourself. I am so terribly sorry, but there was absolutely nothing I could do about that.
I always tell couples to book the tiny houses for the duration of their stay with us as soon as they book our venue to make sure no one les gets them. They are very popular! -

Beautiful venue!
We planned our entire wedding from our home in the Midwest and were taken away by how gorgeous Nantahala is! The site manager, Jody, is very friendly and knowledgeable about the site. She let us use the venue kitchen the winter before our wedding date for a tasting, and she checked in on our event at the beginning of the day and during dinner to make sure everything was going well. Our Sunday wedding was the day after a Saturday event. Jody was very accommodating in allowing us earlier access to the site to get ready and expediting clean up after the 11:00 check out time from the previous couple.
With Nantahala being such a remote location, Jody was very helpful in providing vendors that were familiar with the site. We ended up doing a mix of Nantahala-preferred and external vendors. The Nantahala-preferred vendors we selected were the caterer, Chef Karl (whom you will not find on the Wedding Wire site because he only cooks for the venue), and the shuttle service, Murphy Shuttle (who will pick up as far out as Quality Inn and make rounds around the local cabins in Topton). We also booked BBJ Linens for rentals that Jody graciously offered to return for us after the event.
The only hiccup we had with the venue came with the surprise changes/updates that transpired from when we booked the venue in early Fall 2020 to the time of our event in Oct 2021. The contractor who owns the clear ceremony tent (used as an alternative back up plan for rainy days) increased their prices to $550. While we didn't end up using the tent, if we had, the original $475 price discussed when we booked the venue would not have been honored due to the increase. Nantahala also upgraded their banquet tables to these stunningly beautiful solid wood farm tables. We were super excited to use them until 2 weeks before our event when we found out it changed the default layout of the Reception Pavillion with no option to rearrange the tables back to the original floor plan. At this point we had already finalized the seating chart and booked rentals. Fortunately, our planner was able to negotiate permission to move things around ourselves so long as we put everything back at the end of the night. Lastly, there was some confusion around the accessibility piece of the venue. Nantahala offers transportation up the hill to Chapel in the Sky for $250 for individuals who need it. When we first interviewed, I wrote down that this was included in my notes. When we got into month-of coordination, however, we found something on the website that said preferred vendors could drive the off-road golf cart for $50, but our planner then had another conversation that confirmed the vehicle could only be driven by Jody for $250. Since so much has changed in the last year for the venue, there were a few inconsistencies and lines of information that still needed to be updated.
One more thing I wanted to highlight for all the future brides out there: Topton is a mountain town. The locals have Verizon, and even then service is spotty. Nobody at my wedding had service or strong enough wifi connection to stream video. Personally I loved how it forced people, myself included, to stay present, but it is definitely something to plan for when it comes to transportation and logistics.
Overall, we were happy with our experience at Nantahala and would recommend it for anybody who is looking to unplug and get away from the city to surround themselves with natural beauty. -

Katherine Sent on 05/02/2023Over-priced with surprise expenses and limitations, not dog friendly, not travel friendly, not functioning, very stressful.
The vibe of this wedding venue is “Kawasaki Mule”. Metaphorically and literally speaking, you can get up the hill, but it will cost you. This venue is far from being a magical “dog-friendly” business in the mountains of North Carolina that it seems to be. Yes, the location is in the mountains, but our destination wedding technically benefitted the business by the same name run in Palmetto, FL.
We were initially drawn to a feature of this venue that you can choose your own vendors. We wanted to support local, but there are only actually a few local vendors in the area, some of whom prefer not to have formal contracts or deposits, as is common in laid-back mountain towns. Jody kindly provides an outdated vendor list but even still, finding vendors for this location was a nightmare as many of the vendors on her list refused to return. Most of our vendors were from Asheville or Atlanta and most had been to the venue at least once prior to our destination wedding earlier this year. If the vendor was not literally from Topton, they required a travel fee or overnight lodging because the roads are so winding and there is no cell service for safe travel in the area at night.
The area is obviously remote, but do not think you can relax once you arrive to your beautiful chilly destination. If you want to warm your guests, propane and firewood isn’t provided or pre-filled at the venue, so you will need to make a trip with the tanks anyway unless you can bring your own in your car with your decorations and dog on your way in. You will likely need to make a trip anyway to pick up a wine key, hangers, iron, ping-pong balls/ darts, and whatever other basic supplies that the venue and Mateo Cabins surprisingly do not provide because “these things go missing” according to the venue owner, so they are not replaced. Speaking of tedious driving, it is highly recommended that you hire a driver if your event will end in the dark because the roads in the area are steep and winding with dramatic drop-offs.
Magical? There is new construction overlooking the ceremony area for Jody’s step-daughter’s house. It is a huge eye sore that wasn’t there when we toured the property, and now it dissolves any illusion of intimacy. Your guests are welcome to use most areas such as the “man cave” but per the owner, the doors need to automatically lock due to arson in the area, so the lock system is purposefully confusing and complicated. Per the owner, you should not prop the door either because mice will enter.
Good luck communicating with your guests. The owner likes to claim that the wifi does not work due to the wifi provider in the area; however, other houses had wifi that worked just fine in the trees. Their electrical was clearly not regulated. We hosted a welcome dinner on Friday and the surge breaker was overwhelmed by the keg, food truck and sound system and had to be reset over 40 times. OVER 40 TIMES, the music stopped, the kegerator couldn’t keep a constant pressure so the beer was constantly foamy, and the grill stopped and had to be reheated so it took hours to serve. Some guests went home hungry after traveling hours to arrive. Again, the wifi was not in working condition. When we notified Jody she refused to acknowledge or comment.
Regarding the fees, you are required to get your own liability insurance, and a planner, and you must have a certified bartender if you serve alcohol. Some of these things are standard; however, there is also cost to allow vendors to use the areas and cost to have transportation for guests (which you will need to pay if you have guests with disabilities). In most cases, you will also need to book either a rain tent or bug spray, depending on the weather. A ceremony rain tent is required if it rains and you can NOT have “cocktail” hour at the ceremony area if it rains, even if you have a rain tent. You can choose to overlook the road if it rains, and not pay for the tent. By the way, “cocktail” hour does not allow liquor, mixed-drinks, or kegs. Cocktail hour music with a live band will need to end about 20 minutes early to reset down the massive hill between cocktail hour and reception. If you want a bathroom available during the ceremony and cocktail hour for guests with disabilities, the owner suggest you book at the nearest Mateo Cabin D which is a 2-night minimum. The Kawasaki Mule service does not give bathroom rides.
Dog-friendly? There is an extra cost for each dog. The walls in the bridal suite building (FieTop) are absolutely not sound proof and guests will likely need to use the bridal suite bathroom so our dog had no place to rest because guests were going in and out of my bedroom (the other bathroom was down steep rock stairs in the rain with a locked code). The craziest thing was that the venue owner charged a penalty fee for our dog that was pre-approved and paid for, claiming that our dog stayed in a dog-free Airbnb cabin, which is not true because our dog stayed with us. She deducted the Airbnb penalty from our venue security deposit without warning. The venue owner refused to discuss the details of the dog penalty when we contacted her. In fact, she hasn’t communicated with us regarding any concerns since the wedding weekend, despite her attentive communication prior.
Over-priced with surprise expenses and limitations, not dog friendly, not travel friendly, not functioning, very stressful. The problems with this venue alone made it exponentially difficult to manage all of the other details for our three-night wedding weekend. Nice view of the lake though, so I’ll give it one star.
Our best experiences were off the property and I wish we got married at Wayah Bald itself. If you love this area, most of your photos will be in free, public places anyway. The links to directions for those areas on the venue’s website do not work, but the kind people at nearby Lake’s End Marina in Topton, NC have guides that can point you in the right direction.Nantahala Weddings & Events's reply:
Although it saddens us to receive our first 1-star review, we are proud to have been actively operating as a wedding venue since 2014 with elated guests that leave glowing reviews. We pride ourselves (and warn our guests) that Nantahala is remote with terrible WiFi (we are working on getting Starlink), but our prices are lower than similar venues in other parts of the state and country. In fact, we often hear from couples touring our property that our price for 3 days (including lodging for 6 and many amenities) is similar to what other venues they looked at charge for 8 hours.
The vendors and I tried very hard to help this bride be happy on her wedding day, but she was determined to find many things to be unhappy about, asked for refunds - and even refused to pay for some services - that had already been provided.
Please allow me to address her concerns publicly.
VENDORS: We have a significant vendor list that we constantly vet. We have truly amazing vendors that do everything possible to bring to life the bride’s vision. I encourage you to read some other reviews for proof. True, some vendors from Asheville or Atlanta that are on our list decide not to come to our location due to the distance, but we take them off the list as soon as we learn that. Our goal is to give couples the most variety possible. For most couples, that is a positive.
NEW CONSTRUCTION: Yes, there is a new house being built adjacent to the property above our ceremony area, which will be finished by summer, but it’s barely visible from the ceremony area, and there’s never construction going on during a ceremony. It’s not visible for photos. A new co-owner of the venue, our daughter, will be living there a few months per year, and renting the home out to wedding guests when she’s not there. Like the tiny houses on our property, guests will be able to walk to the home from the venue. Nantahala is like any other community. We have new construction, too.
BREAKER: We were very disturbed to hear that this guest allowed the food truck to plug into a 20Amp outlet. No wonder it kept breaking! We do not hover over people during rehearsal dinner, so we had no idea this happened until reading it in the review. We live just two miles from the venue and are on standby for all events. If someone had called us, we could have remedied the problem.
EXTRA SERVICES: One of the ways we keep our prices low is to include everything that is essential to hosting a wedding (including lodging and many amenities), but excluding some optional services, such as chair set up and transportation to the ceremony site with our 4X4. We allow DIY options for many things for people who are budget conscious, but there’s always the option to opt in for services.
COCKTAIL HOUR: Here is a description of Cocktail Hour from the page where our couples select this option: “This service entails set up and tear down of a mobile bar, a banquet table with a black linen for appetizers (no chafers), and five tree slice cocktail tables at Chapel in the Sky, plus transportation of food and beverages. She was so upset that we decided to refund her the full fee for Cocktail Hour.
PET PENALTY: Housekeeping informed us that there was a dog in a pet-free tiny house. They found a water bowl on the floor and pet hair under the bed. The penalty for that (clearly stated on the rental listing) is $200 because we must make the space safe and comfortable for future guests with allergies. We do not know for sure which dog was in the tiny house, but the rental was in the bride’s name.
