    Rich and Memorable

Murray Hill was the perfect place for my daughter’s engagement party. Located on the Potomac, Murray Hill is a beautiful and picturesque setting! Every detail was tended to with great care. Owners Peggy and John Rust were experienced, attentive and knowledgeable in guiding us every step of the way. Could not have chosen a better venue!

Perfect venue for a rustic outdoor wedding!

My husband and I got married outdoors at Murray Hill, overlooking the Potomac River. It was the perfect, most peaceful setting for our intimate wedding. The rustic scenery and barn gave just the look we wanted for our photos. Peggy is amazing to work with, and has such a gift for bringing a vision to life. We couldn’t recommend her and Murray Hill more.

    Best venue ever

We absolutely loved getting married at Murray Hill would recommend it to any couple looking for an outdoor, woodsy, ethereal wedding! Our ceremony at cocktail hour had the most beautiful views of the Potomac, and everything was so green and lush. Plus, the historic house was amazing to get ready in, and the property had lots of great locations for photographs. Our guests loved the setting and everyone we’ve shown our pictures to has gushed about the beauty of the location.

Peggy and Donny were extremely flexible and easy to work with and gave us lots of opportunities to walk through the venue and drop things off and pick them up on the weekend of our wedding. This hugely helped us as a mostly DIY wedding not have to scramble the day before or day of.

The barn was beautifully lit with twinkley lights, and Peggy let us use the fire pit and cornhole sets as an added activity during the reception. We booked nearly all of our vendors through Murray Hill’s preferred vendor list, which couldn’t have been a better choice. All the vendors had extensive experience on the property, making the day of a breeze. 100000/10 recommend!

    Wonderful Venue!

Murray Hill was an absolutely wonderful place to get married! They had everything we were looking for: indoor & outdoor spaces with a lot of flexibility for weather concerns, a beautiful setting with river and mountain views, an historic house, and lots of great locations for photographs. We were drawn initially to the views overlooking the Potomac, but absolutely loved the property, with so many different areas to take pictures, it looks like you’re in multiple places. We were able to use the house to get ready before the ceremony, held the ceremony outside on the bluff, and then used the barn for our reception. We even had a memorable procession from the house to the barn following our ceremony! Our guests loved the setting and everyone we’ve shown our pictures to has gushed about the beauty of the location.

Peggy and her family were very accommodating and easy to work with and gave us lots of opportunities to walk through the venue and drop things off and pick them up on the weekend of our wedding. One thing to be aware of is that they have to comply with Loudoun County noise and party ordinances so receptions have to end around 10 or 11 PM depending on the time of year, but you’re going to find that anywhere else in the county, too.

Murray Hill gave us the perfect setting for out October wedding!

We got married at this venue on 10/21/23 and had the most wonderful wedding! The venue is breathtaking - from the bluff overlooking the river, to the cocktail hour setting by the pool, to the rustic barn, this is the perfect setting for a fall wedding. The owners, John and Peggy Rust were helpful, understanding, and quick to respond to questions and requests. On the day of, Susan helped ensure our day went smoothly. I cannot say enough good things about this venue!!!

    Best Wedding Venue Ever!

My cousin got married here years ago and we had so much fun we decided to come back and have our wedding here too! The owners are very kind and hospitable and the property is just beautiful! Great place for a scenic ceremony and a fun barn to have your reception in afterwards. Highly recommend!

    Beautiful venue

I am so happy with our decision to switch venues to Murray Hill. We had to postpone our wedding due to COVID and our original venue was the ABSOLUTE worst. We were told about Murray Hill by our wedding planner and as soon as we got there and met Peggy, we were SOLD. Murray Hill is a beautiful location and we had the most perfect day! I loved the three areas where we had our ceremony overlooking the river, cocktail hour by the pool and the reception in the barn. It allowed for everyone to spread out if they wanted to. Everyone told us how beautiful everything was - so many told us it was the prettiest wedding they have ever been to. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND checking out Murray Hill - you wont be sorry!

The Best Backdrop for Our Memories

From the moment we pulled up to Murray Hill and saw the stunning view of the Potomac we knew this is where we wanted to have our wedding. The view overlooking the river was perfect and there were SO many different ways to think about orienting our wedding arch for various views. During the wedding it was so nice to look over the river, feel the breeze and just soak in the majesty of their property.

The Rust's graciously open their home for weddings so I was able to get ready in their front room, take a moment to get pictures on the grounds, and also relax for a moment before heading out for the party. It is stunning, welcoming and comfortable. Peggy always made me feel at home and was so gracious. One of the best things about this venue is that if you book for the weekend you have time the day before and after to set up and tear down which was a lifesaver. Many venues that we visited had weddings back to back for several days straight and had strict load in and load out policies. I really appreciate having the time to add some last minute touches for the wedding and also having the time to make sure we left the space better than we found it. I really recommend this venue.

    Dream wedding venue

Murray Hill was an absolute dream venue for my 10/24/2020 wedding. Getting married in a pandemic is definitely a challenge, but John & Peggy made sure our day was perfect, safe, and unforgettable. Peggy was incredibly accommodating with planning ahead of time, especially with all the changes we needed to make to keep everyone safe. The venue itself is gorgeous and makes for the perfect backdrop for your wedding photos. The views from the Potomac Overlook are unmatched! We had the most amazing time and people could not stop commenting on the beauty of the venue. I would not hesitate to recommend them to any couple trying to have their perfect wedding day!

    Responsive and flexible!

Unfortunately, we were forced to cancel our May 2020 wedding due to the shelter-in-place order in VA. With my fiance being in the military and the uncertainty of the pandemic, postponement was not an option for us. Despite these unfortunate circumstances, Peggy has been so helpful and incredibly understanding throughout the entire process. She is very active via email and addresses all your concerns in a timely manner.
I also wanted to mention how stunning the venue/estate is. The ceremony location is so dreamy, overlooking the Potomac River and the Catoctin Mountains and how could I not mention the beautiful barn? The beauty of the venue speaks for itself.
It has been such a pleasure working with Peggy and although our wedding day never came to full fruition, Peggy made the whole process seamless. We highly recommend this venue.

Beyond Amazing - Including the Rain Plan B

From the first time we met Peggy and John, to the day after our wedding, every minute of working with the folks at Murray Hill was perfect. The whole team (extra shoutout to Donnie and Susan who were there day of to help with anything) was fabulous and incredibly responsive, and the fact that they only typically do one wedding a weekend meant that we were able to drop off and pick up items stress free which was a major help.

Most importantly, the forecast was not in our favor and yet the wedding still worked out 100% perfectly. Peggy and Donnie worked with us to get a tent delivered last minute for cocktail hour (and Donnie even supervised the setup with his strict attention to detail). We moved the ceremony into the barn and while I had initially been disappointed, I would not have wanted it any other way. The barn is a stunning place for a ceremony, and we just used the tent for cocktail hour to help enable the caterer to flip the space for the reception.

The rest of the venue is obviously gorgeous. We used the house for getting ready, the screened in porch for pictures during the rain, and the dining room for a ketubah signing - it was great to be able to have everyone together for an intimate moment before the bigger ceremony. We also took pictures in multiple outdoor spots once the rain cleared. These pictures look authentically natural and rustic rather than staged - the benefit of Murray Hill being such a large property rather than a kind of manufactured venue. Overall, the experience was above and beyond, and we highly recommend Murray Hill.

    Dream venue

Murray Hill and it’s owners far surpassed our dreams and expectations for a wedding venue! Everyone complimented us on the venue because the estate itself is so gorgeous and well kept. Peggy was extremely helpful and accommodating throughout the entire process and always responded immediately to our questions and requests. Susan was incredibly helpful the days of our wedding and rehearsal dinner and truly made our events perfect. They felt like family and I couldn’t have imagined a better venue or experience!

We held our wedding ceremony and reception at Murray Hill and it was just amazing! Peggy and her husband were very accommodating and wonderful to work with. The venue is just breathtaking and all the guests were in awe of how gorgeous everything turned out. We even got to see a bald eagle flying around just before the ceremony. The views are spectacular. Highly recommend!

I had my wedding at Murray Hill on June 6. Every single aspect of Murray Hill was amazing.

Start with an unbelievably beautiful location with multiple areas to hold parts of the event. Want to exchange your vows on a cliff overlooking the Potomac River? No problem! Cocktails in the garden or by the pool? Why not? Dinner and dancing under twinkly lights in a beautifully restored barn. Go for it!

Then add in how flexible and accommodating the owners, Peggy and John Rust, are. Although Murray Hill is their private home, we were able to come to Murray Hill countless times in the year leading up to the wedding. The Rusts also let you bring supplies/decorations and set up days before the wedding and break down the

We feel so incredibly lucky to have found Murray Hill. The property is gorgeous and it is a home, not a wedding mill. Peggy and John were very helpful --- they allowed us to show up (to their home) repeatedly leading up to the wedding and start decorating days before the wedding. They even helped us find a last-minute vendor. The day-of, their property was immaculate for our guests. Peggy even carried my train as I left the house to walk down the aisle. I can't imagine a better venue.

Murray Hill is a lovely, lovely venue! I can't say enough about how beautiful it is. My husband and I married there this fall and the leaves were bursting with color. If you are looking for a beautiful venue that you can make your own, this is your place. John and Peggy, the owners of the property were absolutely lovely! Peggy was amazing and the site is beautiful! This wonderful long driveway up to a beautiful stone mansion! I got married and had my reception in the barn and the amount of work Peggy and her team put in was amazing. It rained for an entire week before wedding day and everything was very muddy but they put down stuff to soak up the water so cars could get in and maintained it. I am so thankful to you Peggy and your husband for all the hard work you guys did to make my big day special! Thank you!!!

Murray Hill provided the perfect backdrop for the wedding we envisioned: a big Italian dinner party in the Virginia countryside. Not only are the views over the Potomac just gorgeous, but so is the house, the barn, the gardens, the pool, the flowers....The Rusts have done an immaculate job at making their estate one of the most beautiful wedding venues around. Not only was Murray Hill the perfect venue to have our wedding, but the Rusts were really great to work with and made sure that we had no unanswered questions or concerns during the planning process. We chose to have our wedding ceremony on the lawn outside the house, a cocktail hour in the gardens near the pool and then parade to the barn for dinner and dancing. Our guests just loved the progression place to place and enjoyed seeing all of Murray Hill's wonderful property. Really, Murray Hill is the perfect place to have an elegant outdoor wedding with lots of charm. Thank you Rust family for providing such a lovely place for us to host our wedding!

This is a private estate which is open for weddings on the weekend. It was honestly a pleasure to work with the owners. They were excited about the wedding and wanted to make sure their house and property worked for the event. The were flexible and very accommodating. They even moved horses into a nearby field because I wanted there to be some pictures of them. They were there whenever we went buy to view the estate prior to the wedding and they were very helpful. They also provided recommendations based off of past experiences with all their numerous weddings. All of my vendors also loved working with them because they are so flexible and helpful. I am really glad that we found this gem. Their website does not give them justice. I would see the place in person.

This is an unbelievably beautiful venue. My daughter wanted to have a barn wedding and this was the perfect choice. I cannot recommend it enough. The owners were delightful and very easy to work with, jumping in to help wherever they thought it was needed. Between the backyard overlooking the Potomac River, the barn, the pool and the rest of the beautiful property you will not find a better place. Our wedding reception was the first event in Murray Hill's barn and it was BEAUTIFUL. Our guests are still talking about how lovely the setting was. We only had 40 people (you could easily fit more) but the space felt like just the right size -- a testament to Peggy's decorating expertise. And, the fenced field next to the barn's open wall was perfect for the kids to run around in. Peggy also is extremely pleasant to work with. We appreciate all that she did and I would not hesitate to recommend her -- and Murray Hill -- to any bride.

Having grown up in Leesburg, Va., I had never heard of Murray Hill until I began planning for my 10/3/15 wedding. And I am so unbelievably happy that we found it! It is a private residence, owned by Peggy and John Rust, and I’m still floored by how welcoming they were to have our families and guests at their home. Murray Hill is everything you’d ever imagine for a romantic, historic, natural Virginia wedding. Though we had planned to have the ceremony outdoors overlooking the Potomac River (terrible rain forced the ceremony to be held where our reception was), the barn turned out to be the perfect back up plan. The atmosphere was intimate and cozy and, as one of my guests said, “the envy of any girl on Pinterest”! The real test was the weather! Even with all of the rain leading up to our wedding, we had no problems. The barn proved to stay completely weather proof and our 90 guests were dry and happy! I definitely recommend Murray Hill for a wedding venue, working with Peggy and John was easy and enjoyable, and Murray Hill’s beautiful setting is absolutely unforgettable!

Murray Hill is a beautiful venue and I am so glad that we selected it for my daughter's May 2015 wedding. The owners are truly gracious people; it is their home and I believe they take such satisfaction from all the happy events that happen there. Things that are truly great and unique about this venue - A ceremony site on a bluff overlooking the Potomac River, in the shade of towering oaks (there are other good sites, too - but the bluff...so dramatic and beautiful). A roomy converted llama barn, open to an expansive lawn, allowing for the perfect blend of dancing formality, and backyard casual for the reception (think father-daughter dance with a backdrop of corn hole and giant jenga). So many sites on the property for beautiful photographs - gardens, the bluff, the historic home, a pool. My daughter's wedding was absolutely a dream there. There are only a couple cautions I'd have - the property is relatively 'undeveloped' - it's beautiful and natural, but your guests will need to walk unpaved pathways or you will need to arrange to shuttle them between ceremony and reception barn, and the barn is not climate-controlled - so if it's hot outside...you'll have a warm reception! Finally - you'll need to coordinate to rent all the furnishings (tables, chairs), etc. as this venue does not have them. This is also a plus though - you can choose any kind of chairs and tables you want! Get a really good coordinator to handle the details, and enjoy your dream wedding at this beautiful, unique, treasure of a place. Also - wanted to make sure that folks know there are now bathrooms in the barn! (an earlier reviewer had commented that there weren't, but the bathrooms were installed in the spring 2015!)

We loved Murray Hill. We were married on the bluff next to the beautiful stone house on the Potomac. We had cocktail hour in the gorgeous, understated gardens before heading to the barn for the reception. We have had so many people tell us that the venue was "amazing," "stunning," "a vision," and "perfect." Everyone loved the view of the Potomac, the gorgeous pool in the garden, and the open barn. We loved that we were able to incorporate three diverse locations into one great evening.

Peggy and John were incredibly accommodating. The wedding planning experience was pretty hectic, and it made such a difference that we were able to come out to the site a few times to plan, come out early to decorate, come back the next day to clean up, etc. All of the other venues we considered wouldn't allow us to start decorating until the morning of, and we would have had to tear down immediately afterward. My parents, husband, and I really appreciated the opportunity to fully enjoy the day!

It was a wonderful wedding at a stunning venue!

Murray Hill is a beautiful site for a wedding or any event overlooking the Potomac River. Working with Peggy and John at Murray Hill was wonderful. They were very responsive to questions and willing to work with us. The site has many options for the wedding and reception. We had the ceremony overlooking the river next to the house and the reception in the barn. The site is so beautiful that we did not need decorations for the ceremony site only chairs for guests to sit. Similar the barn setting was very natural and required few decorations. I would highly recommend Murray Hill and Peggy for a perfect wedding location.

Riverside Hidden Gem in Northern Virginia

Murray Hill is such a beautiful venue and the owners are wonderful people.

If you're looking to get married in a place that's lofted above a sparkling stretch of the Potomac River and surrounded by nature but with cover in case of rain; that's located near an airport and 1 hour from D.C. (you can even take Metro or bike most of the way!); and in a super-cute town with restaurants, things to do for guests, and even local vendors, you will love Murray Hill.

The venue includes a riverside bluff, which is a stunning ceremony location, a poolside garden, which is lovely for cocktail hour, an open-sided rustic barn, which has high ceilings and is a great space for the reception (or everything if it rains!).

The venue owners live in the historic house on the property, clearly love and take great care of it, and are so welcoming. They were helpful, very flexible with vendor drop-offs/pick-ups and with our visits/plans (which had to be adjusted week-of due to an extreme heat wave!), and provided a preferred vendor list. Having the list of trusted vendors was super helpful for the planning process, as the venue is spacious (the multiple areas mentioned above) and you definitely benefit from having vendors who are experienced with it. Since the owners provide the space and guidance but you select the vendors, rentals, and decorations (although they already have available arbors, barrels in the barn, and the lovely landscaping!), there's a lot of opportunity to make your wedding bespoke and best fit you, which was really special and memorable for us.

Thanks to Murray Hill--and good luck and congrats to everyone who is planning their wedding!

    Amazing Owners, Incredible Property

Peggy is so great to work with! The venue is gorgeous and makes you feel like you are in the woods while still being nearby some great hotels, Dulles airport, and even close to DC. Peggy is super helpful while still managing to be hands off and letting you create your dream wedding. When we had to postpone our date to the coronavirus, she immediately found us a new date and just transferred our contract over without any drama or hesitation. She was a such a pleasure to work with and we are so lucky to have found her!! Highly recommend to anybody looking for a venue in the Leesburg area.

I highly recommend Murray Hill, particularly for a bride that wants a beautiful, unique outdoor wedding with a rustic theme. Peggy the owner was very easy to work with, responsive and offered a lot of great advice for recommended vendors. She offers an elegent bridal room to get ready in which provides a lot of nice "getting ready" pictures. Her husband was also very nice and drove us away in their vintage car after the reception which made for a great send off moment. The barn is great for the reception and is very spacious, which is great for mingling and dancing. One area for improvement would be the bathroom situation; there is no bathroom at the barn; however Peggy worked with us and other brides for the season to work out an arrangement with a trailer restroom service where we split the cost. I would just say it would be nice to include this price in the venue as I think a venue should offer bathrooms included, but that's just my take on it.

Murray Hill is a gorgeous location! Open spaces, an elegant stone home and beautiful views overlooking the Potomac River. Peggy and John were great to work with and we thoroughly enjoyed getting to know both of them. Peggy was so helpful and welcomed us to her home graciously.

Peggy also did all the flower arrangements and staged the flowers and many of the decorations. It was a stunning display! Murray Hill is a wonderful venue for your wedding or special event. You will not be disappointed!!

I recently had my wedding at Murray Hill, and let me say, after doing a LOT of shopping for venue a year prior, this one completely took the cake with how beautiful it is for a spring/summer wedding. Though it ended up raining on my big day and we had to move the ceremony inside (instead of near the beautiful view of the Potomac river...such a bummer!), we got some absolutely stunning pictures of the bridal party and my groom and I later when it cleared up a bit. There are beautiful gardens as well to have your cocktail hour in, and the barn is perfect for anyone looking for sort of a pintrest-y place to have your wedding. Peggy and John, the owners at Murray Hill, were wonderful throughout the planning process, and were always responsive to emails and questions. They were happy to offer advice on vendors and planning tips, and also were happy to offer anything around the house/farm I wanted to use for my wedding (like two big beautiful wine barrels to mark the ends of my aisle!). Essentially, the only reason they are not a perfect score is that for value, because most things aren't included (restrooms, tables, chairs, etc..) things end up adding up quick. They do throw in a bonus though of having John drive you away in a 1954 Cadillac limousine, however, which was pretty fantastic. Overall, a GREAT place to have your wedding, so definitely go visit!

    Just What We Wanted!

Murray Hill was truly the venue of our dreams! It has everything we were looking for and more—a gorgeous and charming manor, a cool and modern barn (we wanted something not too rustic), and a beautiful and unique pool area, plus tons of beautiful backdrops and fall foliage for pictures. Coordinating with MH went smoothly; we were able to drop off décor the Thursday and Friday before our Saturday wedding. The ceremony location overlooking the Potomac is stunning and the barn was the perfect space for our 100 guests to eat and dance. The barn is well-equipped with electricity and beautiful lighting; you really don’t even need extra decorations! John and Peggy are happy to let you borrow certain décor items they already have and work with you if you need anything moved, added, etc. Murray Hill is such a beautiful venue and really made our wedding vision come to life!

    Stunning venue

Murray Hill is the perfect venue. Ryan and I had such a hard time finding a venue that was local, nature-y, and rustic but with charm. This venue allows so much personalization to make the wedding yours, and Peggy and John are a JOY to work with. They were very accommodating to our needs and made sure we had our dream outdoor ceremony even though it was soggy out and had just rained a ton. Our wedding was the best day of our life and it wouldn't have been as special anywhere else.

Murray Hill is the most beautiful venue I've seen for a wedding. It was definitely my splurge cost wise, and unfortunately we didn't get to use a lot of the venue as it rained the day of our wedding, but even with that turn of bad luck our photos are fantastic, and the owners were wonderfully accommodating to the change in plans. Our "getting ready" photos (which, don't actually get ready there ladies just save it for the dresses) turned out so beautiful with the fantastic décor, and the greenery of the grounds was seriously a dream come true. The barn was the right note of rustic but chic, and even with rain was cozy and just lovely. She even drove my father and I to the barn in her own private car and left the heater running for me while I waited to get out for the ceremony, since the barn is far from the house that we got ready in. This venue is not for the faint of heart. If you are dreaming of a giant ball gown and bejeweled stilettos this probably isn't your venue. You will have to plan it from the ground up from chairs to décor to caterer, but if you are up to the challenge the space will be uniquely yours, and your guests will be amazed at the beauty of it!

After months of searching for the perfect wedding venue, another venue recommended Murray Hill to my husband and I. From the moment we pulled up to Murray Hill to meet with the owner, Peggy Rust, we knew we had found our wedding venue. It was everything we had been looking for. Most of the venues in the area captured one aspect or another that we were looking for, but only Murray Hill encompassed everything. The entire property is just lovely. From the beautiful historic house, to the amazing views of the Potomac river, to the gardens by the pool, to the barn. All the landscape options made for amazing wedding photos and really gave us some versatility in our shots. They were also the most reasonably priced, which was a win win. We made use of the entire property and choose to have our ceremony outside next to the house overlooking the river, our cocktail hour in the gardens next to the pool, then our reception in the barn. Peggy and her husband were great to work with. They allowed us to set things up for the wedding a day early, which was a huge help. They also preferred us to take down the Monday following the wedding-which was a blessing to us because it allowed us to spend the rest of the weekend enjoying our family and friends that had come into town for the wedding. And in this day and age where many brides and grooms want to add their own personal touches to their wedding, they were very supportive and open to this. They allowed us to set up our own arbor, incorporate our own decorative elements to the barn, etc. Peggy made it feel more like we were having our wedding at a friend or family members home, rather than just some venue. I would recommend them to anyone.

Murray Hill is a gorgeous property over-looking the potomac river. For our wedding we had our cocktail hour at this location and a tent/seating area by the pool. With 160 guests this location was able to easy cater to our needs as a group.

Peggy Rust handled the coordination of the venue, flowers and transportation. She did a fantastic job with all three of the above.

Our only issues were that the original quote ended up being doubled, the flowers were purchased without a contract, and sometimes it felt like we were catering her instead of the other way around. In the end the wedding was perfect and I wouldn't have gone with another vendor. They also provided us free transportation from the church to their property in their decorated cadillac which was perfect!

    Thanks!
    -Tim

Murray Hill is a stunning venue that I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a venue that will accommodate and elevate nearly any vision you have for your wedding

I've wanted to have my wedding outside and with a barn-style reception for a long time. While looking through venues, my husband and I struggled to find a place which had all the aesthetic appeal of a real barn, with modern amenities (like bathrooms), flexibility, and without all the mess which comes with a working facility. Murray Hill checked all the boxes and then some.

Keep in mind that this venue is actually private property, and that comes with some specific considerations. Peggy and her husband, the owners of the property, do not store rentals like tables or chairs. They don't provide a venue coordinator, and while we found that they were happy to make suggestions when asked they won't design your event for you. They do make continuous improvements to the property (and it's in much better shape than many "event" barns we visited), but it wasn't built from the ground-up for events.

That being said, we found Peggy and her husband to be incredibly flexible and accommodating, allowing us an incredible amount of freedom throughout the planning process and on the day of our wedding. We had an incredible amount of access to the property for walkthroughs, and when our rentals vendor showed up unannounced for a run-through one afternoon, they took it in stride rather than kicking them out. They allowed us to set up starting several days before the wedding, allowed us to use decor they had on site (e.g. wine barrels and vintage benches) and even moved everything to where it needed to be on our wedding day. We saved a considerable amount of money due to this flexibility and ultimately came in under budget despite "overspending" on our venue.

Murray Hill is gorgeous. We still hear from guests who can not get over how beautiful and unique the venue was. We got married over looking the Potomac and our cocktail hour was across the way in the garden. Our reception was in the barn and once it was all set up it looked fantastic. It's beyond words how beautiful and perfect Murray Hill was for our wedding. The pictures turned out amazing. And Peggy and John were easy to work with and without them we wouldn't have the wedding we wanted.

Once we visited this property, we knew instantly this was where we would get married. The property is like a fairytale as soon as you turn onto the gravel road. The manor house is gorgeous and a perfect place for the bride and groom to change clothes and get ready. It made us feel very regal. The ceremony location overlooking the Potomac is breathtaking and provided a cool breeze. The cocktail hour by the courtyard pool was a nice surprise for our guests and a fun spot to start the party. Since it was tucked away behind a garden, it gave me and my husband some privacy to take pictures without being distracted.

The walk through the woods to the barn was so romantic and added to the natural/rustic feel. I do suggest notifying guests of this walk to make sure they have appropriate shoes though. The barn is BY FAR absolutely stunning. I love how you have cover in the event of rain, but you still have fresh air since the entire side is open. There is plenty of space behind the barn for caterers to prep and work. They have brand new bathrooms, which is a huge plus since many other barns have portable restrooms.

Donnie (Donny) deserves a HUGE thank you for overseeing so much on our wedding day. He works at the property and honestly made everything run smoothly. He removed fallen trees, blocked off parking spaces for our grandparents and planners, directed guests as they arrived, helped store items for us that we dropped off while setting up that week, answered all our questions and SO SO SO much more. He did it all with a smile and made the day such a joy for us. His confidence and genuineness put us at ease.

Peggy and John, who own the property, give clear advice and suggestions on how to setup your wedding on the property. They really are a delight to work with and you know you are in good hands working with them.

Our wedding was the most beautiful day of our lives.

    Beautiful barn and breathtaking views

We got married here in October and it was incredible! The grounds are absolutely gorgeous and gives you lots of options to choose from between the view of the Potomac, their gardens, the pool, and the barn - the whole place is breathtaking. It is a little pricey as it doesn't include anything but the use of the facilities but it was worth every penny. Peggy who runs it is so sweet - sometimes a bit hard to nail down for appointments but we really enjoyed working with her. Our day here was a fairy tale.

This is a gorgeous venue! We could not have picked a better place to hold our wedding. The whole experience was really wonderful. The owners and staff are absolutely professional but are also incredibly warm and family-like. The grounds are well kept and beautiful, as is the house. There are a ton of ways to use the property, but I highly recommend how we did it: ceremony overlooking the river by the house, cocktail hour next to the pool and then reception in the barn. I absolutely recommend this venue!

Murray Hill is a breathtaking property situated on a bluff on the Potomac River. We had our ceremony and cocktail hour on the bluff outside and the reception in the recently restored barn, absolutely beautiful. A few cons, my bridal suite had to be cleared out immediately after the ceremony which was stressful to me and my bridal party, I was told sparklers were a no no except for the bridal party at the reception while we were doing the final walk through after I had spent $ (for 80 people) on sparklers/personalized matches and planning the sparkler send off, they were also mysteriously not put out for the reception so now I have 80 matchbooks that Im not sure what to do with. I also had to rent a Don John in additon to 1 bathroom in the barn which was totally fine (I had gone over with the venue manager that women would use the indoor bathroom and men would use the Don John) but the venue manager was ushering women standing in line for the indoor bathroom to the use the Don John outside. And finally one of my guests fell and scraped her knee leaving the barn because the lights had been turned off outside for some reason. Overall there were no major snafus and I am satisfied with the experience.

The venue is absolutely beautiful! Without a doubt a hidden gem in Northern VA! It was a little pricey as unlike other venues, you paid to rent the space but then also had to pay for everything else (re: caterer, tables,) that would otherwise be included. The reason for only 3.8 stars was because 1) *this was the MAJOR one* Peggy, the venue owner, told me and my then fiance that we could definitely use her pergola for our ceremony, but when we went for our rehearsal, the pergola was gone. When we asked her husband about it, he was told to "take it down" so he did. ... A. Day. Before. My. Wedding. It would have been nice to know that was not going to be an option to use when we had our conversation with Peggy initially. Lesson: get everything in writing from Peggy. EVERYTHING. 2) This was one of the most important days of my life, and Peggy would not allow us to party at Murray Hill past 9PM. Her husband and assistant sat outside of the barn the entire time, watching, which I understand, but kind of creepy, and then come 8:30PM were hounding my wedding planner to get everyone out. Our contract stated that the time could be adjusted, but they stuck to it. Lesson: Push for the end time you want and get it in writing from Peggy. 3) Peggy was responsive via email (my main form of communication with her), but when it came to checking the boxes on the contract pertaining to meeting with her and the caterer, or meeting with her and my Planner, scheduling was like a pulling teeth at times, and even got to the point where she would forgo her need to be there and just have us come to the property to do what we needed to do out of the meeting (re: take measurements, assess the floor plan). Lesson: Start scheduling well in advance & take the day off work to make it easier. All in all, my guests had a great time and loved the property. I would strongly suggest getting married there in the early Fall as the foliage over the bluff is incredible (but get everything in writing)!

    Hidden Gem

I have lived in Loudoun County my entire life, and had never even heard about Murray Hill. When a friend of a friend told me about it, it was exactly what I had been looking for in this area. The entire property is gorgeous! You have full access to the house, the garden, the pool, and the barn!! For what they charge, and in Northern VA - it is an exceptional price. Peggy and John were super helpful, and answered all of my questions. Her responses were delayed at times, but understandable.. be patient with them - they are the groundskeepers, the house managers, and handle all of the wedding stuff on their own. Unfortunately, due to COVID we decided it was best to cancel our wedding.. we will not be having our perfect day there, but I still highly recommend this venue for anyone looking for a bit of country, vintage, and outdoors.

Murray Hill is gorgeous and everything I ever wanted in a wedding venue, beautiful setting overlooking the Potomac, lush gardens, fun barn. And the owners are absolutely lovely. There are some drawbacks to this venue though; you have to bring absolutely everything in, and because the owners live there they are very protective of their property. This place is great if you are highly organized, flexible, and creative. I would not change anything about my wedding however it was time consuming having to find ALL of the vendors.
My guests were blown away with the property and could not stop taking pictures, I think it's impossible to have a bad picture at Murray Hill-- again, this place is gorgeous and unlike any of the other venues I looked at.

Murray Hill is a beautiful property. A gorgeous view of the river with a great barn and a pretty pool area. Just perfect for an outdoor wedding.

I have to say that I found working with Peggy, the owner, less than pleasant at times and plain confusing at others. I found that she did not answer questions directly, didn't seem to have set prices for the different areas of the property (perhaps it was just her tone, but it literally sounded like she was making something up when quoting us a price), and made us, our families, and wedding party feel like we were intruding in her home when we had paid lots of money to rent the venue. It was not easy to plan a mostly DIY wedding with her rigidity and not giving straight answers much of the time.

Unfortunately we also didn't find her to be a gracious host on our wedding day - we asked to borrow an iron for my dress and if she had any plastic cups that we could use for champagne in the bridal suite (it would be fine if she didn't we were just asking) and she gave my friends and sisters a hard time about both. She also placed a sign on the bed in the bridal suite that read, "please do not sit on the bed," which i just found ridiculous.

I did wish during much of the time that I spent planning that she was easier to work with and more helpful, but mostly I think that for the price, it would be nice if wedding coordinating services were included or offered - or that SOMETHING else was offered besides literally just the space (with strict time rules at that).

Despite all of this, the beauty of Murray Hill allowed us to host beautiful & memorable celebration for our guests. I would recommend MH because of this but with the added cautionary tale.
