Working with Kara was an absolute dream from start to finish. Despite coming from out of state, she made the entire process seamless with her incredible planning and clear communication. She knew exactly where to take our engagement photos and made sure to capture every special moment we hoped for. On our wedding day, even with a few unexpected hiccups, Kara’s calm presence and expert guidance helped everything flow perfectly. Her amazing personality put us completely at ease, striking the perfect balance between letting us be natural and providing direction when needed. When we saw our wedding photos, we were absolutely blown away—each image was more beautiful and breathtaking than we ever imagined. Kara doesn’t just take pictures; she creates lasting memories that allow us to relive our perfect day over and over. Wedding Day
I highly recommend using Kara Cavalca to capture your wedding day! Her work is a reflection of how much she enjoys being behind the lens of her camera, her clients, and her job as a photographer knowing placement, lighting, poses, etc. When we first met with Kara, I knew I could count on her to do a fantastic job of capturing our special day. She was very approachable from the beginning and has a very bubbly personality that keeps you smiling the whole time you’re working with her. She always kept us in the loop of upcoming deadlines and making sure we stayed on the same page throughout the whole planning process. She is very punctual and made my wedding day stress free by being there early to get set up and make sure we were all ready to start taking pictures. I cannot say enough good things about Kara and would definitely use her services in the future! -

Amazing Wedding Photographer: 10/10 would recommend
From the moment we had our first connect with Kara, we knew she was the perfect match for our wedding day. Leading up to the wedding she sent us emails with tips/recommendations for the big day, and as it got closer sent us an incredibly thorough survey to ensure she didn't miss any big moments on our special day. She has an amazing ability to capture candid moments with us and our guests and also spot opportune places for stunning photos with nature in the backdrop and foreground of our photos, something we didn't see in any other photographers portfolios. We received a sneak peak of our photos the next day and they were better than we could've imagined. Our experience with Kara was a 10/10! -

Quick review: Kara did photo and video for my wedding as well as an engagement shoot. She also shot our rehearsal dinner. Her work is worth every penny and she is a super kind, organized, and communicative person. If I could choose again, I’d still choose her!
Longer review: I’ll start at the beginning of the process when I first booked Kara. Between meeting over zoom and emailing and the questionnaire she gave me, I could tell this is a very organized professional, which is exactly the vibe I wanted for our wedding photographer and videographer. She had great insights to all of my questions and gave me amazing advice for the wedding, beyond even just the photography aspect. She made me feel so at ease and sure she had the photography and videography covered.
When my husband and I first met her for our engagement shoot, she was so sweet and kind. She’s funny and down to earth and makes you feel so relaxed. The shoot felt like your best friend taking pictures for you, honestly. During the wedding she was her organized, kind self— even in the more hectic moments of the day she (and her whole team) was hyping us up and made us feel great in front of the camera. I had a ton (seriously, dozens) of specific photos I wanted Kara to get on the day and she made sure we got them all!
We purchased 6 hours of photo coverage, but, by no fault of Kara, we were running behind on the day. (I highly recommend getting 8hrs of coverage) We were able to book an extra hour with Kara and her team on the spot, no problem. They stayed so we could get all the photos we wanted.
The NEXT day, Kara sent us preview photos. They’re not even the official edits, but I am OBSESSED with them. I love them so much. The light is stunning, the composition elegant and beautiful. She captured the pure joy we were feeling that day and I am so so grateful.
If you’re on the fence about getting videography as well, I’ll tell you this: ALL of my married friends told me they regret not having video coverage of their wedding. My sister in law has a daughter now and, I know she wishes she could show her daughter a video of their wedding vows. Budgets are a thing, believe me I get it, but if it’s within your budget, I’d say go for it! -

We had so much fun working with Kara for both our engagement photos and for our wedding. Not only is she the best photographer we’ve ever seen, but she is an incredibly kind, thoughtful, and funny human being. She continuously went above and beyond to make sure that she captured everything we wanted, to answer random wedding questions, and to ensure we didn’t miss a detail of all the important parts of the day. Kara is incredibly knowledgeable about everything you could need to know about planning for a wedding and is a supportive presence to have through the process and with identifying what you want for photos. She made us feel comfortable with taking pictures (something we both felt super nervous about), made the process of taking pictures fun and engaging, and she managed to genuinely capture all the love and joy of our moments together. She truly cares about her work and making sure that people have a joyous and meaningful experience, which shines through in the beautiful photos that she works so hard on. We would recommend Kara to anyone looking for amazing photography and an authentic and fun experience with their wedding photos! -

Kara was absolutely wonderful to work with! She was extremely helpful in the planning stages of our wedding, getting to know us and what exactly we wanted the day to look like and what images were important to us. Day of she was also extremely helpful in trying to wrangle our large wedding party/family and was still able to get all of the important images we wanted. Kara is a lovely human, creative, passionate and FUN. We loved having her be a part of our special day! -

Kara is the most talented photographer I have ever encountered. Her pictures speak for themselves. What really sets her apart is her lovely and warm personality that makes you feel Completely at-ease. Her ability to draw out the emotions that are to be portrayed in her photos is top notch. She is caring and careful to make sure the story told through photos is represented in an accurate and profound way. I couldn’t recommend her enough! I would also add I am a Covid-19 bride and Kara did anything and everything in her power to make sure I had the elopement photos of my dreams even though plans changed drastically multiple times. Thank you Kara for making my elopement so special!
Update: We eloped in 2020 due to COVID which Kara shot. We were finally able to have the actual ceremony and reception of our dreams on Labor Day weekend 2023 and of course, Kara shot this as well! I’m still in awe of her talent and the shots she manages to get while going completely unnoticed! Thank you for another wonderful event together Kara! -

Highly recommended!
Kara was the second shooter at our wedding nearly two years ago. Our photographer was a wonderful artist from out of state and a dear friend, and she hired Kara to have support from a local familiar with our venue and so she also could celebrate with us.
We as well as our primary shooter can’t sing Kara’s praises more. Her photographs were spectacular and she was a genuinely lovely person to have there on the day. I wouldn’t hesitate to hire her for any photography needs! -

It's hard to capture in words how amazingly talented and professional Kara is in addition to just being an incredibly genuine and kind hearted person. While picking our photographer for our wedding, what stood out the most about Kara during our conversation was that she consistently mentioned how capturing who we are, with a focus on candid moments, smiles, little conversations in the corners, and the special moments that not everyone sees, was what she looked for and hoped to capture in her photos. It was about less staged moments and more genuine ones. We loved this about her! And the results of our engagement session and our wedding day reflect this beautifly. She captured moments that we didn't even know she was around for - she just floats, working her magic and sharing her craft with the world. Both our engagement and wedding day pictures came out stunning! The joy of the day is so clear in each one and looking at them gives us the chance to relive the day over and over again, which is exactly what she said she'd hoped to do.
If you are looking to find a photographer to capture the feelings and the emotions of your special day in pictures, then I'd wholeheartedly recommend Kara. She is professional and so communicative through the whole process. She takes time to really get to know you and your partner. I told her often that she's just magical and she truly is. She's a gem of a human being and we are so incredibly grateful that she picked us and we have the opportunity to have the beautiful pictures that she took hanging in our home and a video that we can play over and over to remind us of our special day. -

Wow! Where do I begin…Kara from the beginning was amazing! Coming from my husband and I both being newbies when it came to hiring a photographer, this was a first for us. Kara walked us through everything step by step during this process. She vas very responsive when it came to questions we had about the wedding, the contract, our vision, and even payments. In all honesty we didn’t know what we were looking for and she took our small vision (from the little details we gave) and ran with it! I am beyond grateful that we chose her to capture these beautiful and lifelong memories. During our wedding she made me feel so relaxed and calm because she knew what she was doing. Kara and her assistant socialized with everyone the day of. Our friends and family all had amazing things to say about the both of them. A majority of the time I didn’t even notice them taking pictures, which is crazy considering they are constantly taking pictures of us. She made everyone feel so welcomed and her kindness was very much appreciated when it came to the kids and our fur babies. Let me tell you, when Kara sent me our photos, I was absolutely SPEECHLESS! Every single photo she captured took me back to that memory and we knew the story behind it. I cried because she really made the photos come to life. These photos will forever be cherished in our home now because of her. If anyone is looking for a photographer to capture their special moments, then stop looking and book Kara! I actually don't know if I can fully sum up how good Kara is at her job. Kara is able to capture all the intimate and candid moments of a day that you (hopefully) never want to forget and you wouldn't even know she is there- allowing everyone to just be their natural self. She is also a master at creating intimate moments, for example having your mom help you into your wedding dress, or a first look- Giving you some structure on what to do, but making the moment feel so natural.
There was a point in our wedding planning process that we were considering not having a wedding photographer. Mostly because the weddings we had been to in the past felt like a bit of a photo shoot with the bride and groom gone for large chunks of time. However, after talking with Kara we changed our minds completely. Kara took the time to walk us through the entire wedding day and brainstorm different times and ways to get all the photos we wanted while also never taking us away from the natural flow of our wedding day. Looking back on the day I can say that Kara only exceeded our expectations- and we had done shoots with her before. For all the emotional and intense moments she got the most beautiful photos, and I don't remember seeing her once; allowing us to be fully in the moment. For the family photos she masterfully hearded various family groupings into order. And for the special moments that really did need a few "staged" shots she gave us space to have the moment, then gave clear and fun posing suggestions, so we never felt like we were doing photo shoot.
Kara, I am so thankful we had YOU to capture our wedding day. -

When calculating the cost for a wedding many folx have to make sacrifices on what they want, giving up certain things. We are so glad we we mad sacrifices elsewhere to be able to have Kara at our wedding! She helped us with details unrelated to the videography as we planned the wedding 2 years in advance. From helping us find vendors to talking through colors. She was easy and fun to communicate with from day one all the way up to even after our wedding. When we reflect on the wedding day there were many times we forgot she was there. She blended in, and got all the best moments at the same time. Having a video taken might feel like it is going to be invasive, but with Kara everything felt easy, relaxed, and professional. Her flexibility, her genuine desire to really capture who we are and our day, and go above and beyond every step of the way feels like something different from other videographers we had interviewed, and have heard about. She also jumped in a lake to get the best shots! We have the picture to prove it :)

Kara was so thorough in taking the time to meet with us in advance. We live out of state and it was important to get all the details worked out beforehand. She was great going into deep details about the vision for our wedding and who we are as a couple and a family. This was a second wedding for both of us and she was very sensitive to the fact that it was a blended family. Yet no personal details fazed her! She was super organized about her shot list to make sure she didn't forget any important images we knew we wanted. To be honest, I didn't think a whole lot about our photos in advance because I was so busy planning and working a full time job that I didn't have the time to be super picky or detailed. But Kara got so many great shots that it took our breath away. At one point during the ceremony I threw her a curve ball and asked her to take an unplanned photo of my new stepchildren and she was wonderful about it! Like no big deal! After the wedding her email and text communications were wonderful and clear. So appreciated!
We were honestly blown away by the first images! In fact, she printed one out at the reception and put it in a frame! DAMN now that's service! We are having a tough time deciding on our favorites there are SO many! In our opinion Kara is the one and only choice for weddings photos in Southwest Colorado. I have seen much of her work before and after and I would find it hard to pick someone else. She is easygoing, fun and made us feel so comfortable with her images and work. We are so happy with the results -- we only wish now we would have also gotten video to go with the images!

Highly recommend!
If I could give Kara 100 stars, I would. She was absolutely fabulous. My husband and I eloped in Durango in December 2020. Having not been to Durango prior, Kara stepped up and made our day stress free and perfect. She truly went above and beyond. Her vendor list and referrals are excellent. She’s so creative and captures the best moments. I highly recommend her! -

Kara is so good at what she does!
Prior to our big day, Kara and I met to make sure she knew of all the specific aspects and events that would be happening during mine and my husband’s wedding day. That is a requirement of hers, which is so comforting to know! We only had 5 hours with Kara, so she really took into consideration every special detail that a photograph could capture that day in that time slot, and she was able to capture sooooo many. Kara was so focused on our wedding day, capturing the most special moments I would have never seen happen without these photos. We even got all of our family photos done in just 20 minutes after the ceremony!!! So easy and fast, even with 10 little nephews and nieces! On top of her professionalism and ability to capture our wedding so perfectly, Kara was so fun to work with and is just a very personable person in general! She made the whole wedding party comfortable during photos, which you know is a task with groomsmen ;), and also let us pose how we wanted, of course with her guidance. As our 5 hours came to an end, and with things running late, Kara was flexible (and so kind) enough to stay a little bit longer to capture photos of the first dances. We cannot recommend Kara enough! My husband and I, and our entire family and friends are going crazy about the photos she took, and we cannot thank her enough for giving us the most amazing photos of our wedding that we will cherish forever! They perfectly convey the abundance of love, happiness, and fun shared on our wedding day! -

Kara made me and my husband feel so so special! She knew exactly what to tell us to do to make us look great! Our pictures make me cry in the best way every time I look at them and don’t even get me started on the video! I am an actual puddle of emotion every time I view the video. You really can see the emotion on everyone’s face and it real raw emotion, not fake and forced! Kara was running around like crazy trying to make sure she got every possible photo from every possible angle. She works amazingly hard for her couples and she also spends hours and hours editing photos to make sure they are absolutely flawless. Kara made us look like models! I promise we are super average looking. If you can book Kara you DEFINITELY should. I cannot stress how much she exceeded every expectation I had of my wedding photos and working with her is just fun!! -
