Our Wedding Cake ...

Helen Bernhard Bakery, Need we say more? What a fantastic experience working with them. They made the most beautiful custom wedding cake that truly exceeded our expectations! Everyone raved about it not tom mention was the most delicious cake ever! We love the fact that our wedding cake was made by this bakery during their 100th year anniversary. We had a Classically Elegant Style wedding and the Cake was indeed a "Star"!
We cannot thank you enough and will be in as per normal for more yummy baked goods!

Beautiful cake!

Helen Bernhard Bakery was easy to work with! They even made us a little pandemic friendly tasting kit to-go! I was so excited to see our cake on the day of our wedding, it was beautiful. Our florist provided beautiful flowers to add to the cake and we were able to bring our own topper and it came together perfect!

Great service!

We worked with Pam, she was amazing! She even went above and beyond to make our cake exactly what we wanted! We picked whipped buttercream icing w/ three teared square cake, w/ White choc.& Strwbrry filling, second was PB/ &banana, and 3rd, poppyseed cake w/ lemon. It was the hit of the night! It was gone in minutes! We had it delivered out in sandy without a hitch. Thank you so much for such a wonderful creation! Can’t wait for our anniversary cake!

Great options and flavor

Our tasting was excellent and we had the opportunity to taste every single flavor combo we wanted. The pricing was more then fair and we had unlimited options for stacking and decoration

Upon recommendation from our wedding day-of-coordinator, we chose Helen Bernhard Bakery to bake our wedding cake and could not be happier. We called right before a busy Mother's Day weekend and they were able to fit us in for a tasting at the last moment, when many of the other bakeries could not. We met with a bakery representative that let us try a variety of flavors of the cake, as well as corresponding frosting and ended up going with the german chocolate cake, red velvet and carrot cake for the 3 tiers. They were super helpful in suggesting which frosting paired best with which cake flavors, and were also able to do a simple ruffled buttercream frosting design (we had our event designer add gold and flowers to the cake after). We were so glad that we opted for the $50 delivery fee to our venue (a little out of the way), since we didn't want to stress about transporting the cake and they were very flexible with the delivery time, even coordinating with our event planner.

It ended up being $3 per slice, compared to about the $5 per slice we were prepared to pay from other vendors and tasted delicious.

We definitely plan on taking advantage of the free anniversary cake, since in the festivities of the wedding, we didn't get a chance to eat much of the actual cake!

Buying the cake was our favorite part of the wedding! We love Helen Berhnard and our entire experience was flawless. The tasting was fun, the flavors were varied and excellent, and the costs were not too high at all. I love how our cakes turned out. So beautiful! The pink champagne cake is my personal favorite!

Amazing cake for a great price! We had a 3 tier cake with two layers pink champagne with marionberry and then 1 carrot cake with cream cheese. Both were delicious! The cake looked amazing, white frosting with our colors in accent on the cake. I was so please with how it looked! Tasted great!

Our wedding cake and cup cakes were very delicious! Very soft and very moist. Tasted the same as when we had our cake tasting. Will definitely come back for more goodies!!

My fiance and I checked into Helen Bernhard on a whim, and it ended up being our best option! The cake is moist; the frosting amazing; delivery was easy; they let me provide, then assemble, the cake decor. Everyone loved the cake, and the prices are not overblown! We were so happy with Helen Bernhard!

Helen Bernhard Bakery did a fantastic job with our cake! Getting an appointment for a cake consult was nice and easy. The consult went very well, and they were very helpful with creating our wedding cake. Delivery and setup was also great! The cake looked fabulous, and tasted absolutely delicious! One of the highlights for us choosing Helen Bernhard, is that they will make our top layer FRESH on our anniversary!!

I have a sweet tooth, so when it came to our wedding, I won't lie... we had a tall order! My husband and I wanted a small, 2-tiered cake for us and the head table, and another 31 round cakes (6 different flavors) at each table to act as a centerpiece. This was obviously a very large, complicated order, but HB bakery nailed it, and and the cakes and frosting were fresh and delicious!!! The guests loved mingling with other tables and trying different cake flavors. (The key here to make sure guests cut their cake: after my husband and I cut our cake, the DJ prompted our guests to cut their individual cakes using utensils that were at their tables.) HB Bakery also gave us a lot of cake for the price, so it was a great value and we are so happy with them!! Highly recommended!

What an amazing cake at an amazing price. We only decided last minute that we wanted a wedding cake and they were able to accommodate a last minute 3 tier, 3 flavored amazing cake that was a huge success with our guest. The cake was absolutely delicious and the price was great too. I told a friend after the wedding what we had paid for that amazing cake and she couldn't believe how reasonable it was!

Also, its worth mentioning that on your 1 year anniversary you can order a small cake for free to celebrate! Gone are the days of eating old, partly defrosted freezer box cake!!!

Lady Benton with a Carmel frosting layer and butter-cream frosting was my favorite!

LOVED this cake. Meeting with baker was amazing, as was the price. For 100 people we saved almost double going with these great folks. We chose white chocolate cake with a white chocolate cream frosting. It was amazing. Even the leftovers were great. I would go back again.

Our wedding cake was amazing! Even three days later the cake was moist and delicious. We didn't have to worry about freezing the top because they give you a free 9-inch cake on your first anniversary The price is reasonable especially compared to other bakeries in the area.

Helen Bernhard bakery did an excellent job with our wedding cake! They delivered the cake right on time and did an excellent job with the decoration. Unfortunately we only got to taste the little piece that we cut for our cake cutting portion of the wedding but we got plenty of guests commenting on how delicious it was. The cake was gone in no time. We can't wait for our anniversary cake as I am sure it will be just as delicious as it was on our wedding day. Thanks again!

We ordered a cake for our July wedding and had a great experience here. Granted our cake was VERY simple (just frosted, and we had a florist add fresh flowers), we had a wonderful time tasting at the bakery and the staff were always helpful and personable. The cake was delivered without a hitch and looked exactly as we requested. Sadly it was eaten so quickly by our guests we only got our one first bit-- but are looking forward to our anniversary cake next year. Thanks Helen Bernhard!

Everything about this place was lovely and perfect! The cost was low compared to some places I went to, the designs were simpler and more traditional so if that is what you are going for this is the perfect place. If you want something more customized and unique they could probably do that too! Our cake was just what we wanted, it tasted fantastic! The frosting was wonderful and the cake was so light. They delivered fast and even changed the delivery time at the last minute when we had a conflict. Everyone at Helen Bernhard was so nice and professional.

They were very easy to work with. They created a beautiful cake with artistry. I had a river/waterfall on my three layer cake. The cake itself was moist and very good. The guests raved about it. Especially the layer of banana with cream cheese filling!

We wanted a river with river rocks on our cake since we were getting married at the river. They did a marvelous job in decorating our three layers with their creativity. We picked banana with cream cheese, white with raspberry and chocolate with chocolate. I think we had two pieces left at the end of the day. Perfect! The price was very reasonable and they were great to work with.

Shop around for cake, it’s the most fun part, but then come to Helen Bernhard bakery. I wanted cake that was delicious and affordable, and I got it. They did two tastings for us and provided every combination of cake and frosting we could think of, until we settled on three that we wanted for our wedding. They have so many different cake, filling, and frosting choices you can make endless variations. The cake was beautiful and delicious on the wedding day, and they provide you a matching anniversary cake in a year so you don’t have to save the top tier. This was one of the most affordable bakeries I found, without sacrificing any quality. Our cake came out to about $3 per person, and they let you combine tiers with sheet cake if you want for even greater savings. We can’t wait to get our cake top next June and relive all the good times!

We chose this bakery because they were the best price for the best cake, there was no comparison. They will even be making us a small 1 year anniversary cake too. Their service was greatly appreciated when the consultant for the bakery took it upon herself to deliver our cake on our wedding day because they weren't running deliveries that far out of the city at the time of year our wedding was.

Our cake looked beautiful and exactly how we wanted it to look! We had a lot of fun going in and sampling cake and designing the cake with them. My husband and I were very pleased with our wedding cake from Helen Bernhard's. We ordered the pink champagne with strawberry filling and it tasted wonderful -- we received lots of good reviews. Best of all, their dainty and intricate design matched our wedding perfectly. We topped our ivory wedding cake with a lovely Belleek topper also in ivory. Then, for a pop of color, we had our florist finish it off with flowers in our wedding colors. For our first anniversary, we even received a coupon for a reduced price on an exact duplicate of the top layer of our wedding cake (we still ate the original which was frozen, but a nice fresh cake was wonderful to have). We would highly recommend them.

My family has been going to Helen Bernhard's Bakery since way before I was born--so choosing a bakery was an easy choice. That being said--the cake was AMAZING! It looked beautiful and tasted even better. I will say that the cake tasting was good but didn't blow me away; however, the actual wedding cake tasted fantastic (and I'm not even a huge dessert person). It's such a great place-everyone was friendly and helpful (without being pushy). All of our guest commented on how delicious the cake was (and beautiful).

I loved the way you can go in and they give you all sorts of different types of cake to taste, and it makes it so hard to decide because they are all so good. Our cake was delicious and delivered on time with no problems. We were also able to get a topper for our one year anniversary.

They have books and books full of beautiful cake designs, all with customizable options. Go in to the bakery for a taste test, you won't regret it. They make everything from scratch with fresh ingredients and you can REALLY TELL! I don't like cake, but I LOVED their cake. They will also make you a miniature version of your wedding cake for your 1-year anniversary for 10% of the cost of your wedding cake. I can't wait! I wish I had gotten a chance to eat more than one piece of the cake at the reception, it was amazing-melt in your mouth velvety goodness. And the prices: so reasonable and very straightforward!

We heard about Helen Bernhard's from our friends who had recently got married. We made an appointment after doing some comparison shopping. No one had a better value for the budget. During our appointment, we got to try a number of different samples until we found just the right one. There are TONS of different flavors of cake and frostings to choose from. They have a number of photographs of REAL cakes to choose from and even allowed us to bring in photos from other bakeries to use on our design. The woman who helped us was so willing to do anything to make us happy. She was very helpful and made us feel completely at home. We were blown away by the value for our budget. They only asked for a $10 deposit and the price was $150 cheaper than any other bakery we went to in town! Plus, they deliver for free!!!
When we saw the final product at the reception, we knew we picked the best in town! It was gorgeous and looked even better than the picture! They also gave us a certificate to come in and purchase a replica 8" cake for our 1st annivesary. I'd highly recommend Helen Bernhard's to anyone and everyone!

After our first bite of cake at the tasting, we knew we had to book Helen Bernhard to do our wedding! The staff was so friendly and the cake is the best I've ever had. Moist and flavorful with many different selections. They delivered promptly and set up the cake wonderfully. My only complaint might be that the decorator didn't like my idea so I went with another one for design. In the end, I changed it to all white and it ended up being perfect. I don't want to argue with an artist, but it was my day and it would have been nice to have it my way. Also, if you want a detail that isn't edible, you're responsible for providing it. I'm not the expert so it would have been better if they'd attended to those details (which I chose not to use, because I didn't want to screw it up). When it was cake time at the reception though, I was pleased with how it turned out and DEFINITELY with how it tasted!

Trying the cake was awesome. They had a good variety to choose from and their prices are among the best that my now husband have come across. The actually wedding cake was amazing. Not only did it look great, it tasted even better. We had a 3 tiered cake with red velvet and cream cheese for the top, pink champagne and strawberry french cream for the middle, and lady baltimore white with raspberry french cream for the bottom. There was so many compliments on how it was the best wedding cake they have ever had. One of the best things about Helen Bernhard Bakery is that at our one year anniversary, they will make us a fresh cake! No freezing the top! I have already recommended them to other friends that are getting married!

The wedding cake that Helen Bernhard Bakery made for us was absolutely delicious and beautiful! Our guests raved about the White Chocolate cake and we can't wait for our one year anniversary to try our cake again! They were also very reasonably priced--one of the best that I found around town.

My cake was exactly what I pictured. It was so beautiful and very delicious!!! The only this is I had an outdoor wedding on an 80 degree day and really did want my cake delivered earlier that 3pm and they delivered it about 2pm. But I would still highly recommend Helen Bernhard!!!!

Yum. Best cake, by far. Not only that, they were my Great-Aunt's favorite way back when she got married (in the 1940s or something)! The cake was lovely, the service was good (only one of the ladies on the phone was a bit grumpy, that is why I didn't give them top stars in Quality of Service) and after I ordered the cake and set up the drop-off date and time, that was the last I had to worry about it! Checking things off the list is a bride's favorite activity. They were great and the cake was yummy. Good pick!

I never got so many compliments about a wedding cake then I got for ours. It was simply to die for! The tasting was easy to coordinate and absolutely yummy. We decided on a three tier, with the champagne cake for two of them. Everyone loved it. They even did a custom design job matching our theme/feel and colors. Finally, delivery was reasonable (we got married out in the boonies) and on time. Once we made the decision and paid for the cake, I had no worries that it would arrive just as expected.

Our cake was one of my favorite parts of the wedding. It was a gorgeous pink polka dot three layered cake with each layer a different cake and filling. I only got to taste one layer, and most of that I had to share with my new husband but it was delicious nonetheless. I look forward to my complimentary first anniversary cake!

I really like Helen Bernhard's. They did a beautiful job on our wedding cake. They were friendly and attentive when we came in for cake tasting and made sure that we had what we wanted. There was some confusion over the decorating which caused us to have to pay an addition $100 after the initial order. This was a little aggravating, but since we'd requested a more elaborate decoration, I guess it made sense. Their delivery was punctual, the cake was beautiful and more importantly, delicious. I think they are worth it for the cost, and definitely better than some other higher-end bakeries I've dealt with in Portland.

Our wedding cake turned out just as we envisioned - absolutely cute as a button (and tasted incredible). The only thing that made me nervous was their 2-hour window for a deliver time which could cause issues if your venue has tight times but luckily ours was flexible and it all turned out just fine.

Our cake was great! while we only got to eat our bite we feed each other at the reception, that bite was amazing! My parents had used them for their wedding and when we went to order our cake we could see why. They had huge books filled with ideas, and they were very helpful with mixing and matching ideas from different cakes to help make out unique and beautiful.

I love Helen Bernhard's - and I get all my cakes there. I ordered my wedding cake, and over a hundred cupcakes for my wedding. The cake turned out beautifully, unfortunately the cupcake look was not quite what I had wanted. However, they still looked beautiful and tasted great at my wedding. If there had been more time, they would have redone the cupcakes - however the pick up was the day before the wedding, a Saturday, and they are closed on Sundays. Everything tasted amazing - as usual. I would definitely recommend them, but make sure to see a sample of what you want if you order cupcakes!

The cake we ordered from Helen Bernhard was amazing! Working with them at the tasting was great. We were able to pick out exactly what we wanted and our cake looked just like the picture I gave them.

The only issue we had with them was from the delivery driver. He called the day of and was given directions, after already giving them address and directions. Once he made it he proceeded to yell at one of my bridesmaids accusing her of getting him lost.

We will definitely be ordering from them in the future, however we will probably just pick it up.

We went to Helen's because a few of our friends had gotten their wedding cakes there and we had tasted them and were great. the cake tasting went really well and they were willing to let us try what over we wanted. We brought in a picture of what we wanted with some notes on changes and they had no problem executing what we wanted. We had satin ribbon around the bottom of the tiers and were very helpful to ensure that we brought a sample in to test against the icing and make sure the shade of color it slightly turned would work. it did. One thing that a little disappointing was that they would not decorate the cake with real flowers like we wanted. Fortunately, the venue's coordinator was also a florist and was gracious enough to decorate the cake as we wanted. When we arrived at our venue, the cake was already delivered and look amazing. Thankfully our summer reception was inside and air conditioned. We chose Chocolate with chocolate french cream and white chocolate with strawberry filling (my fav) and having the different flavors were fantasic and all the guests commented on how yummy the cake was and that the icing was not too sweet. The price was less expensive than others. Our cake was what we wanted and we were very happy with Helen Bernhard's.

We tried many cakes and went with Helen Bernhard bakery for the quality cake they provided at good value. Our cake was exactly as ordered and delivered on time. They matched our color for the decoration. We had very simple decoration, enhanced by fresh flowers from our florist.
While my husband and I didn't get to eat a piece of cake until the next day, our guests enjoyed the different cake flavors, and even non-frosting lovers liked the buttercream frosting.

After having our original vendor bail on us, and sampling another three vendors, we ended up at Helen Bernhard's after talking to a friend about where she got her wedding cake.

Helen Bernhard's isn't a design shop that decided to take on cakes, but rather a classic bakery that has been around for forever that makes some of the most delicious cakes you will ever taste. And they don't look bad at all either!

I recently had a cake made from Helen Bernhard Bakery and it was amazing! Although the first meeting wasn't very reassuring, (considering the customer service - we understood that it is a bakery and they get busy, but we both got a vibe from the girl that was helping us, like we were really putting them out by being there to order a wedding cake) we were still happy with the final outcome. The cake was amazing and beautiful and bigger than I imagined, so of course we were happy about that. Quality cake, we just wish the experience would've been a bit more nice! We're still very excited to receive a smaller version of our wedding cake (at no cost) for our one year anniversary. It definitely beats saving the cake top in the freezer for a year! It's very nice that this bakery offers to do that, so in the end it was worth it to go with them for our wedding cake.

This bakery did my grooms cake. It was a cake of Yoda, and they did a good job, but when I picked it up, it fell apart. The bakery went above and beyond to try and fix this situation but the fixed cake didn't really look like the first one. I did greatly appreciate their efforts though.

My sister had ordered a wedding care from Helen Bernhard Bakery last minute for my wedding. My fiance and I didn't want one but my family insisted on having one and I'm glad they did. The cake turned out beautifully and tasted even better than it looked. Helen Bernhard and team were very accommodating and flexible. I think we placed the order a month or less before the wedding and I was sure it would be turned down. But they were very helpful and very patient as we went through the tastings and designs. The cake was four-tiered with flowers and ribbons and it looked amazing. Highly recommend this bakery.

We got a 2 tier small cake for our wedding & then did sheet cakes from Safeway. I wish we just got one more tier at Helen & didn't bother with the Safeway stuff. This cake was so good! It also lasted a lot longer when we were enjoying leftovers :). They didn't get our colors quite right (more purple instead of maroon & safety orange instead of burnt orange), but it still looked good. Most importantly, it tasted wonderful! Highly recommend

Helen Bernhard Bakery did a great job on our cake. The flavors tasted amazing. We scheduled a sit down with them after we decided we liked them. We showed them a few photos of what we liked. We used concepts from different photos to make our dream cake. We were worried that our point wasn't getting across, but when we saw the finished product on the day of our wedding we loved it. They did a wonderful job.
They do not however, put on your cake topper when they drop off the cake... so I guess no one does that now? Our venue ended up doing it for us...

I did have a lil concern with the delivery driver refusing to take my cake to the frig when my wedding was out doors and 80 degrees out! We ended up having to move it to the frig by ourselves! Although the cake tasting went very well and all the flavors are amazing!!! The cake wasn't what we had ordered. It looked right on the outside, but when we cut into it all the filling flavors were the same and they were supposed to be 4 different flavors... a little disappointing.
