We're giving Dawn's Kitchen a 5-star review because its well deserved! We originally had planned for Dawn's to cater our reception (Pine Island Lodge, Corolla, NC) but decided to also have them cater a Southern BBQ the night prior to the wedding. From our initial contact, Dawn's was very responsive which was important since we were planning the wedding from New York. When we decided to visit NC for a tasting, they worked around our travel schedule. Every time we had a question (there were many) we always got quick detailed answers. Anytime we changed our menu, there was no hesitations to accommodate what we wanted. On the day of the first event, Dawn's showed up on time and immediately put our nervousness about how things would go to rest - the staff was helpful and polite and took charge of the event, and our only order was to enjoy the event and have a great time. The Southern BBQ was delicious, the wait staff not only served but cleared plates as people were done, kept our drinks flowing, and at the end of the night left the venue spotless. For our reception the following day, Dawn's was again on time, organized and in control of the situation -and after the great experience from the night before, we were confident that the reception catering would go off without a hitch. Our appetizers were continually being served by their staff (again extremely polite and friendly), and were amazing - I would have been happy just to have eaten the lobster rolls all night. The salads were served right on schedule and the staff was patient while we listened to many toasts before they could serve the main course. The crab cakes were amazing and the quinoa cakes were even better. Since we had vegetarians and guests with gluten allergies we requested some special menu items - and not only were they sufficient for the special diets, but all the other guests raved about them as well. Overall, we couldn't be happier with the planning, quality, professionalism and value of Dawn's!

Memorable Food and Experience to Last a Lifetime

I am writing my review years late, but I was recently reminded of the excellent food Dawn prepared when a friend mentioned how they still think about the food we had on our wedding day. Dawn was amazing to work with, she worked with our budget and ideas! Not only did she make a beautiful coursed meal for my guests, my wedding cake is something I still brag about to this day for her being able to take my idea of a tiramisu cake and turning it into reality.

Dawn's Kitchen is AMAZING! Dawn is extremely personable and made sure that she was going above and beyond for my wedding. She cares about presentation and her recipes are absolutely delicious. The crabcake appetizer was to die for. I would recommend Dawn's Kitchen and her wonderful staff for anyone's wedding or special event!

Dawn's Kitchen catered my wedding as a buffet style and I was a little nervous because I did not meet Dawn in person before-hand nor did I test the food. I was not disappointed AT ALL! From the start, they knew what they were doing and where to set up. Dawn personally visited my husband and I during our meal to make sure everything was perfect for us. The servers were incredibly nice and friendly as well. They cleaned up and stored all of the leftovers and left everything spotless! I highly recommend Dawn's Kitchen Catering.

Great communication delicious food always willing to meet your needs. On the day of the event Dawn was so focused on making sure we let her handle everything so we didn't have to worry about anything.

Dawn and her team recently catered our intimate wedding for 25 at our rental home and they were fabulous! Leading up to the event Dawn was easy to work with and patient with all of our last minute changes. They were professional, they took great care of us and our guests, and left everything In our rental home spotless. The food was delicious and we had no complaints. Due to other's recommendations we ordered cinnamon rolls and chocolate croissants for the next morning and we're so glad we did, they were amazing! You will not be disappointed!

My daughter Jenny had her wedding in Hatteras,NC it was a beautiful ceremony provided with a backdrop of the sunset on the beach. Simply fabulous! Simply breathtaking was this wonderful day along with a beautiful bride and her groom. This special occasion was even better with a wonderful meal prepared by Dawn's Kitchen. Dawn added her personal touches and service with excellent professionalism. We had a shrimp/calm bake that was delicious and served by a courteous staff-this made my job as mother of the bride an ocean breeze.

Dawn was a pleasure to work with. My son had a small wedding on the beach and I wanted dinner catered at the house after the ceremony. She was easy to work with and was right on time with the food The food was great, everyone kept commenting how delicious everything was. I was very pleased with the Quality Of Service, Responsiveness, Professionalism, Value and Flexibility. I would recommend her services.

We were thrilled with the decision to hire Dawn's Kitchen to cater our daughter's wedding on September 27, 2015. Our daughter insisted on a 100% vegan wedding and Dawn was definitely up to the challenge. She made menu suggestions and also accommodated the specific requests that we made. Dawn and her staff arrived to the wedding house we had rented and went about working their magic in a friendly and professional manner. This was crucial since the kitchen was part of the wedding space - not hidden behind a wall as in many other types of venues. Many guests complimented the staff and I think the staff actually had a great time, too. The food was amazing - pleasing even the non-vegans. Dawn definitely had the ability to calm the hosts and assured us that everything would go well, not to worry, etc. And, she then made that happen. The food was also displayed in a beautiful, classic manner with a 'current' vibe. Nothing gimmicky. I would enthusiastically recommend having Dawn as your wedding caterer.

From the initial tasting through the implementation of the event, Dawn and her team were wonderful to work with! Dawn is so personable and truly cares about making your event just perfect. The food is AMAZING and the presentation is professional and inviting. I would absolutely use Dawn's Kitchen again and very highly recommend them!

Dawn was excellent to work with. Dawn provided personal attention to us helping in making decisions that would make our event successful. The food was delicious and many of our guest commented on how good it was. At our event Dawn and her team were great - cleaning up and all!

I had the pleasure of working with Dawn and her team for Katie & Mark's Outer Banks wedding. I was the wedding day coordinator. Dawn and her team made the catering seamless. The food was the best I have ever had, and I have planned a lot of weddings. Dawn was available and incredibly responsive, which was very helpful for me. We planned our wedding at the Mark Twain House (5/25/18) from our home in Connecticut. I was very hesitant and found it somewhat nerve-racking to book a caterer without ever having a tasting. I reached out to about 5 different caterers before deciding to go with Dawn. Dawn was extremely fast responding to my emails and she was able to make me feel at ease with booking her for our wedding. I emailed Dawn with MANY questions and she was able to help with not only our food questions, but also some questions we had about the Mark Twain House. She was very flexible (we had a few last minute changes) and accommodating. Dawn’s team showed up and I honestly didn’t even know they were there. Extremely professional team she has. Wedding food in my opinion is never spectacular, but Dawn’s Kitchen was on another level. Everything was delicious and all of our guests commented on the food! The next day we all wished we had more!

We also booked Dawn for our post-wedding breakfast, which she left with us the night of the wedding. The next morning we just needed to heat a few things up. Breakfast was also delicious and everyone was raving about the french toast!

Dawn and her team are top notch, we can’t thank them enough for their service!

Amazing food!

Dawn catered our wedding, and the food was outstanding! She was very accommodating and professional. She helped us create a menu for our wedding reception, and worked with our budget. She made sure that the bridal party didn't miss out on the cocktail hour hors d'oeuvres, as she saved a plate of everything just for us (the mini crabcakes were my favorite!!). She also packed up to-go containers just for my groom and I incase we got hungry after the reception. We highly recommend Dawn and her team for your catering needs.

Great food and staff!! They made our day special and stress free and even accommodated for a food allergy!! The presentation of the food and the table set up was perfect and they left everything spotless and clean before they left! I would highly recommend for your special event!

If you are looking for catering I highly suggest Dawn's kitchen. She is a lovely individual and excellent cook!

In January Dawn slid us in last minute for a tasting and it was delicious! Her attention to detail and comforting nature make her an enjoyable vendor to work with! We ended up having her cater the rehearsal dinner as well, simply provided her with a budget we were trying to stay within (800$ for 40 people) and she delivered with a delicious meal at an affordable price, she actually came in under budget!

Everyone raved about the food and we were excited to have leftovers the next day since it was so good! Literally, relatives came over asking if we had leftovers.

Dawn goes the extra mile by checking in to see how the wedding is going, offering helpful suggestions of contact persons if needed. She called on the day of/day prior to confirm that she would be delivering the food and at a specific time- great professionalism and extra touch!

*Since we were under a budget and small wedding we did drop off service which stayed warm and was a no brainer- set up a buffet line inside the event home, asked three aunts to oversee the operations(who were all to happy to help) and saved a great deal of money!

Dawn was very helpful, she created a wonderful menu for our wedding. We could not have been happier. She came the day of our wedding and set everything up with her husband. I live 10 hours away from Duck, NC and I can honestly say that I never worried once about the catering services (including linens and bartender)! We were supposed to have an outdoor wedding and that got changed at the last minute, due to weather. I called Dawn the morning of and she told me not to worry about a thing and to enjoy my day. She worked everything out perfectly! The appetizers and entrees were delicious and her staff was friendly and courteous! I would recommend Dawns kitchen to anyone and hope to see her smiling face again!

We were looking for a cater who would come out to the 4x4 area and Dawn was our woman! She stayed in touch throughout the whole process and was great to work with. Our sundae bar was a hit and the food from the salmon to the ziti was delicious. She's cost effective and her team pays attention to service!

Dawn and her team are AMAZING!!! Dawn helped work with our budget to create the perfect menu for our wedding weekend. If you have any ideas that you wish to come true Dawn can make it happen and make sure you don't break the bank. She gives you choices and price points so you can decide what works best for you. Feeding everyone at a wedding is expensive. Dawn helped out with Bar options (she brought a certain number of beer and wine, with chasers, and limes/lemons) we brought the liquor and extra wine/beer that we may have needed. She is really a great person to work with and gets back to you in a timely manner. Dawn also did a family tasting for us on a couple of items when we were down in the outer banks for vacation. She cooked for our rehearsal dinner which was a LUAU theme with BBQ, mac n cheese, ribs, salad etc.. everyone was raving over how delicious all the food was! The mac n cheese AHHHMAZING and the ribs fell right off the bone and were so flavorful. Our wedding day was stations and we had a pizza oven, kabobs, sliders, pasta and everyone was raving about the food even the cheesecake bar was a huge hit! Everything Dawn cooked was delicious and loved by all. Our wedding day brunch was omelet station with bagels, fruit, bacon.. such an amazing team and cant wait to come back and use dawn for family dinners in the outer banks. Dawn and her team cleaned up every time and left the place as if they were never there. She is truly the most kind, creative, thoughtful person to work with and I am so lucky that she was available and had her be apart of our special moments. I would recommend Dawn 100000 times to anyone because you know you will get the best service with her and her team. They were all so great to work with and deal with a couple of the crazies haha :) Great Job to Dawn and her team! Thank you for everything you did for us and we will see you soon!

Dawn's Kitchen was fantastic! From start to finish Dawn provided us with the best service. She was very accommodating and was able to provide gluten free entrees for my family and friends with gluten allergies. Dawn of Dawn's Kitchen was outstanding on every level. She was great to brainstorm with on the menu selections and came up with winning breakfast and dinners for the wedding at The Chesapeake. Given weather conditions we had to change the venue and layout and Dawn was extremely accommodating, flexible and creative so the event experience was not compromised. Not only was her food amazing, Dawn's attention to detail and service was excellent and the kitchen's were spotless after each event. It is clear her passion is making amazing meals and thrives on providing the ultimate epicurean experience.

Dawn's Kitchen provided the catering & bartending services for our wedding on May 15, 2016. Dawn was so responsive and accommodating from day one. I briefly gave Dawn our vision for our wedding day and she delivered during our tasting. I was so impressed how she really blended the different tastes we were going for. Throughout the planning process she was always on top of her game and extremely detailed and since we didn't have a planner/coordinator that was so helpful! Dawn also really knows the OBX well and had catered at our venue previously (Nags Head Woods Bay Watch). On our wedding day the food was so delicious - our guests are still raving about it. Dawn's staff are all so professional and went above and beyond. We couldn't be happier and would definitely use her chef services in the future.

Dawn was phenomenal. Food was plentiful and absolutely scrumptious. Moist chicken - scallops cooked to perfection - seared tuna - perfect. 5 stars - on time - on a holiday - food was best I've ever had at a wedding. Incredible for 30 people!

I live in Georgia. I had to get my information from the website, phone, and email. Dawn"s Kitchen responded promptly to every question and was very friendly. During the rehearsal dinner the wedding planner told me that Dawn's food was delicious and that I would be very happy. We had a salad, a fruit platter, low country boil which consisted of clams, crab, shrimp,and cheesecake for dessert. One of my guests said it was the best cheesecake they had ever eaten. I advise letting Dawn"s staff serve the food. The food is so good that people were piling it on their plates. Thank you Dawn for a wonderful rehearsal dinner.

Dawn was amazing! It's been over a month since our wedding and people still remember how good the food was! Aside from the great service her and her team provided, we didn't even feel them there! They did their work, without so much as a sound to let us know they were working around us. I would choose her over and over again

Dawn's Kitchen was amazing to work with. Dawn had wonderful ideas to assist use with the menu. She was not pushy in any way and developed a wonderful menu in the exact price range that I requested. The food looked and tasted amazing. Dawn's Kitchen is perfect of any party, dinner, or reception in the Outer Banks!

Food was delicious my guests and I all loved it! We had a small beach wedding and everything turned out great. The food was presented well, they got there on time, very professional I would recommend Dawn's kitchen again!

Dawn's Kitchen was a lifesaver for our wedding! My wife and I were at our wit's end on who and how we should cater our wedding till we called and talked to Dawn. She was extremely helpful and attentive to what we needed for the wedding size we had planned. The food and presentation was amazing and service was on point.

Dawn's Kitchen was the Best

First off, the food was absolutely delicious! Dawn worked with us on a drop and go dinner for our daughter's pandemic beach wedding. Dawn was easy to work with, and the menu options were varied and interesting. We really appreciated her attention to health and safety protocols with set up, especially with a high risk person in our party.

I used Dawn's Kitchen for our wedding on May 5th in Corolla NC and the whole experience with her was fabulous! We scheduled a tasting prior to choosing her services, my parents and (now) husband :) came as well. Dawn was SO welcoming for the tasting. She had cute place settings set up for each of us and we got to taste every single item we were interested in. I figured we would be tasting a little here and there, but she made sure that everything we wanted we were able to taste. She was very responsive leading up to the wedding.
Now to the wedding day. The food was SO delicious. Our guests all said the food was amazing and I literally have no complaints. She was even willing to accommodate different cooking times for the steak because we had a few people who preferred well done and wanted to make sure they had options. She was also able to accommodate a couple of special dietary restrictions which was great! They were on time to set up, and everything went very smoothly. I would recommend Dawn's Kitchen, between the delicious food quality and awesome service you will not be disappointed!

Dawn was absolutely wonderful! She was extremely responsive and went above and beyond to make sure our wedding was perfect! She even went out of her way to pick up our alcohol and ice it before the ceremony. Everyone at our wedding raved about he food! I HIGHLY recommend her and her team. We also used her for the bridal luncheon and WOW! She did not disappoint! She works wonders. Thanks Dawn so very much!

In this case I really felt I need too!
The food was just wonderful and Dawn the owner made it so easy and helped make our special day just perfect. We also had her cater a few last minute dinners for a few dozen friend and realtives who were still staying with us. She did an unbelievable wonderful job. We were not sure we would be able to get the quality of food and service that we are use to in the North East. I must say it was everything we were hoping for!
Thank you Dawn and your wonderful staff for a wonderful 2 weeks of Southern Hospitality!
We will be back to celebrate again next Sept.

Dawn and her highly professional and exceptionally competent staff arrived on time and ready-to-go in full serving attire. They moved all of the necessary equipment into the house quickly and without difficulty. Despite inclement weather requiring a need to move the wedding indoors (right in the vicinity of the food prep area), Dawn and her team adapted to ensure an undisturbed and beautiful ceremony and kept the meal preparation on schedule.
The multiple course menu was superb!!! The Pork loin was out of this world and everyone raved about the crab cakes. The food was hot, and excellently presented. We had enough food for 2 full dinners for 20+ adults and it was just as tasty the second day as the first.
The Chocolate with raspberry filling wedding cake was off the charts.
The clean up was done quickly and the house was left in better condition than when they arrived.
We will be going back to the Outer Banks in the future and will look forward to having another one of Dawn's grand feasts.
Highly recommended to all who are considering catering on the Outer Banks!

We used dawns kitchen for our wedding at the mark twain house. From the moment I called her and heard what she had to offer we knew we had to use her! Planning a destination wedding is tough because your really going in blind sided, but I trusted her. Thank god I did everything was absolutely amazing! I never in my life tried such delicious food! All the servers and bartender were awesome! I would highly recommend dawns kitchen to anyone..you won't be disappointed. Thank you Dawn for making my wedding so perfect and unforgettable!

My fiancé and I got engaged in January of 2019 and had been planning our October 2020 wedding for over a year when COVID 19 hit. We decided in June, with 127 days to go until our wedding date, to change our plans entirely to best accommodate the safety of our guests. Needless to say, I was a bit overwhelmed. You really have to trust in reviews when planning a wedding from 270 miles away with no time to allow for trials or tastings and Dawn’s reviews truly speak to the execution of her end result, we could not have been happier. Every time we had a question throughout the planning process, Dawn was prompt with a reply and always super quick to update our pricing. The menu options were extensive, and it was hard to narrow it down, the options for cocktail hour make me wish I had a larger wedding just so we could have tried more! I loved the chicken salad phyllo cups, and everybody raved about the crab cakes (I don’t eat seafood but even I almost had to try them, they smelled amazing). She even set aside a sampling of hor d’oeuvres for my husband and I so we didn’t miss out during our photos! Our dinner was incredible, we opted for a chicken and a filet mignon option. Every guest that had the steak told me it was the best steak they’d ever had; it could literally be cut with a butter knife. On top of the food being amazing, Dawn’s staff was exceptional. We had one bartender for 40 guests and he would remember everyone’s drink of choice and have it ready for them as they were walking to the bar. We had a couple of special bottles of wine for the bridal party and he was also on top of that. He was also overall just a funny, personable person. The service staff were also excellent, I feel like I hardly ever saw them, but everything was served and cleaned up super promptly. I would hire Dawn’s again for an event without a second thought and we are super appreciative of how helpful her and her team were!

Dawn's Kitchen was a great find! We had our wedding in The Outer Bank's and planned it from Indiana, so communication was key. Dawn was always prompt with email responses, and was very helpful with any questions we had. The food was amazing, and was a very good price compared to other caterers we found in OBX. We were very pleased with the service and food we received!

We could not have been happier with the catering at our wedding. This woman can cook like no other! She provides delicious, fresh and AMAZING dishes, even for us picky vegetarians. She also took the role of a second mom to a certain crazy bridezilla lol. We could not recommend Dawn and her team more!

Dawn was absolutely amazing! We didn't have a wedding planner, so things were kind of hectic, but Dawn and her staff handled everything on their end with ease. Dawn worked with us on providing a few changes with dietary restrictions within our guest list. Only small blip was that is was a challenge to keep food hot with a really hard wind blowing that night. But other than that they nailed it on all other aspects. The meatballs were an unbelievable hit with everyone! Highly recommend this crew!

Dawn was very flexible and the food was delicious! We had one gluten free guest as well as a few vegetarians whom she was able to adjust for without changing our menu.

Dawn was great to work with and the food was amazing. The only complaint that I got was that almost all of my bridal party didn't get any appetizers because they were all gone by the time we got there after taking pictures. Apparently they were really good though! Dawn was very flexible and even when I called two weeks before my wedding and asked for another server to be at my event she came through and provided one for us. I got a ton of compliments from my guests saying how good the food was. Thanks Dawn!

The food was outstanding! Everyone raved about the Chicken Picatta and the Lasagna. The food was delivered to Hatteras NC warm and set up. I had plenty leftover and probably could have ordered a bit less. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the arranged drop of time was 2 p.m. and I received a text message to confirm at noon and was told the food would arrive at 3 p.m. This mad it so one of my gracious guests had to miss the entire ceremony to assist with food preparations. Over all I would recommend Dawn's Kitchen for any party.

Wedding Reception

Communication, quality of the food, price value, professionalism of the serving staff, attentiveness shown by the bartender Paul, the flexibility with weather constraints, and the overall experience with Dawn‘s kitchen was exactly what I had hoped for. I was very disappointed to learn that there was an altercation with Dawn herself and my aunt during the reception while she was trying to help. I was also told that she was mad that I did not hire a wedding planner. I thought both behaviors were very unprofessional. This, however, is my only problem.

Dawn was very responsive to emails, she was able to add and modify some of the dishes without a problem. The food good and presentation was great! We opted for doing just platters, she dropped everything off and set-up in a buffet style. She arrived on time with everything and set it up beautifully while we were down at the beach for the ceremony. Since everything was dropped off, we were able to keep the left-overs so we weren't paying for food that wasn't eaten. We were able to feed ourselves and guests for several days while we hung out on the beach.

Dawn's Kitchen was great. They went above and beyond to help make this a wonderful weekend. Even in the midst of unpleasant weather on the Outer Banks, Dawn's Kitchen came through. I would recommend to anyone seeking an excellent catering service in the area.

The food was okay, but arrived over a half hour late after going to a wrong address. This might be why the food was just okay and was cold. Aside from this issue I always received quick responses, great customer service, and the price was reasonable.

I had a wedding in Hatteras, NC, on 5/10/15. I read great reviews about Dawn's Kitchen Catering and decided to go with them, as I've never been to this area before & didn't have a chance to visit prior to the wedding day. Their prices seemed reasonable & Dawn answered my questions/concerns in an acceptable amount of time. The first conversation I had with Dawn, I explained that I was having an afternoon wedding of 50-65 people & would like a light luncheon with an assortment of appetizers, veggie trays & tea sandwiches. I explained what I would like those appetizers to include. On two other occasions, aside from that first conversation, I asked Dawn if what I ordered would be enough food for 50-65 people. She assured me each time that it should be. I took her word for what it was, as she should know best. Her website included a suggested serving size for each of my orders & I also went off of those suggestions as well. My food order alone totaled $900. With tax & delivery charges, I paid just under $1,200.
Dawn dropped off the food within the time frame we both discussed. I was getting ready in my room & I didn't have time to go out and look at the food that was dropped off. She introduced herself & thanked me for my services.
The ceremony took place, followed by the reception. How embarrassing is it to be told by numerous guests, not even 20 minutes into the reception, that there was NO FOOD LEFT?! I didn't even get a chance to look at the food. There ended up being less than 50 guests at my wedding. My mother had to frantically run out to find food (from an area we knew NOTHING about). When contacted that day, Dawn ensured us that she "even threw in extra". When I later spoke to her, she was adamant about her point & put the blame on me for "not ordering per person". I received a whopping $150 back (after nearly a month). Horrible business, I would NEVER recommend this caterer. Thank you Frisco Sandwich Co for saving our day 15 minutes before closing!
