Getting married at Briar Patch was the greatest decision we ever made for ourselves. Dan and Ellen are unbelievably kind and generous; it is their spirit that you feel when you choose to get married here. They were responsive to our barrage of questions and bring years of experience that benefitted us in moments of confusion. I never once felt like they were trying to sell us something but were simply there to provide guidance when we asked for it. We had our wedding at Briar Patch Bed & Breakfast Inn two weeks ago, and it was incredible! The place is gorgeous with stunning views and big enough to fit all our friends, over 35 people! Dan and Ellen, the owners, were so welcoming and helpful every step of the way.
Before we chose this place, I thought about having our wedding in a hotel, but I wasn't too excited about that. When I saw this venue online, I fell in love right away. We visited, and I knew it was exactly where I wanted to get married. The historic vibe and beautiful outdoor spaces made our photos and videos look amazing.
We got the whole place for two nights, making our wedding feel like a fun getaway for everyone. Dan made sure we all had a great time, sharing stories and serving delicious breakfasts. We made so many happy memories!
I highly recommend Briar Patch to anyone looking for a wedding venue. It's not just a place to get married; it's a magical place that feels like home. Our single friends joked about finding someone just so they could get married here too! If you're planning your wedding, definitely go check it out. You'll love it just as much as we did!

We recently had our wedding at the Briar Patch and it was a beautiful day and an overall excellent experience working with them. They were very responsive and helpful with our planning. We ended up booking the entire site for the weekend to host family and friends from out of town. They helped us find a caterer and plan the whole event. Everything was just easy working with them. Wonderful Wedding Weekend
We had a beautiful four days day including private time with our family, rehearsal dinner and wedding all at one venue. The briar patch bed and breakfast is a GEM. Dan and Ellen are wonderful to work with and treat you like family. They are very flexible and work with you to provide a memorable experience. The fact that the wedding party and immediate family can stay on the grounds for the entire weekend made it even more special. And we got a delicious breakfast every morning for the cherry on top. It was also nice to use some of the preferred vendors - Helga’s caterers had a fabulous staff and the food was out of this world! DJ Randy was phenomenal and kept the party going. Dan and Ellen at the Briar Patch were an absolute dream to work with. They say “your wedding, your way” and they really mean it. They helped us with every step along the way and we’re so flexible to accommodate what we wanted for our big day. The venue itself is so cozy and dreamy. My bridesmaids and I were able to stay in their Cottage the night before the wedding and we had an absolute blast! They had everything set up exactly how we wanted before we even came to help get decorations up. It is a great venue for the price as well, because for the one price you get the whole place-meaning if you’re planning to be outside and weather happens, there’s zero stress because the backup plan is just as beautiful and it’s completely included. We loved everything about our experience at the Briar Patch and can’t recommend it enough!Briar Patch Bed & Breakfast Inn's reply:

Briar Patch will always be such a special place to us because we not only had an amazing wedding but a total weekend takeover. Our entire family and bridal party stayed on site. Aside from the weekend rental, we ultimately decided to go with BP because the owners (Dan & Ellen) along with the venue itself had such a relaxed and flexible vibe which was exactly what we wanted for our weekend. Dan and Ellen were so easy to work with throughout the whole process and it was so fun getting to know them. They even brought our family fresh grown tomatoes from their garden during our dinner! Briar Patch is a secluded venue, with lots of space but still has the perks of being close to the cute little town of Middleburg and Dulles airport for anyone traveling long distances. We were able to arrive mid day Thursday and just hangout, get everything ready until Sunday late afternoon. Santiago was amazing - he helped set everything up and always had a smile on his face, willing to lift, carry, adjust anything we wanted. It was truly a beautiful weekend and we used the entire site to our advantage - all the houses, upper hill for ceremony site, reception hall, the pool for our after party etc. If you want an authentic, relaxed and beautiful wedding - BP is your place! -

We had such a lovely experience with Dan & Ellen. I was able to stay from Thursday-Sunday & it felt like I was getting married in the comfort of my own home but with a pool and all my closest friends staying with me. They’re so flexible and relaxed. Amazing to have our 16 person bridal party and all their significant others stay on the property. Couldn’t have asked for a better experience. -

We toured many venues prior to booking with Briar Patch, but decided to book with Briar Patch due to its convenient location (close to Dulles Airport, hotels that offered shuttles for guests to and from the Dulles Airport as well as one complimentary shuttle to the venue), on-site lodging, ability to book the venue for the entire weekend, beautiful indoor and outdoor event space, and ability to select our own caterers and bring in our own alcohol. We wanted to have a wedding in wine country, but without the restrictions that wineries have on bringing in outside alcohol. We also wanted to be able to select food that we were interested in and not be restricted to the options at the venue. Having the venue available the entire weekend was extremely convenient and a major selling point for us so that we could have our immediate family on-site together. We had a tree planting ceremony and Ellen and Dan kindly let us plant a tree on their site. We booked a day-of coordinator who previously worked at Briar Patch who was critical to pulling all of the details together and making our wedding weekends run smoothly. We stayed in the Chicken Coop, which was a great size for our wedding party to get ready in and take getting ready photos in. We appreciated being able to use the decor such as hurricane lamps, wood slabs, picture frames, easels, projector, etc that Briar Patch already had on site. It was fantastic to have the hot tub on site as well. -

Briar Patch B&B were so flexible with us and allowed us to reschedule multiple times while things were up in the air due to the pandemic. We could not have asked for a better venue! Stunning views and super convenient to be able to stay onsite. We saved money by having the rehearsal dinner onsite and we got to set everything up the day before since we booked for the full weekend. They are incredibly flexible and easy to work with! We are so grateful and had the most perfect wedding weekend. -

First of all, we adore Ellen and Dan and their whole team. They made us feel so loved and made sure we were taken care of the entire weekend. They were wonderfully flexible, too, as we had to change our date multiple times due to Covid. The property is beautiful and rustic and creates a romantic ambience. I highly recommend Smokin' Willy as your caterer as they've partnered with BP many times and work seamlessly with the venue. We loved our little cottage as well as each room at BP. You're able to book the whole weekend so our friends and family were able to just waltz home after all the festivities and it created a delightful intimate setting where we were able to just relax with our loved ones the days before and after. You'll also get BEAUTIFUL photos as well with the barn and the gorgeous backdrops around the property (I also recommend Samia -- she is a fabulous photographer and also works at Briar Patch, too!). All in all, a wonderful wedding weekend despite our many setbacks from the pandemic, an amazing team, and cannot say enough about Briar Patch! -

Wonderful Venue with Scenic Backdrop in rural NoVA
Dan & Ellen provided not just a wonderful location for our wedding, but their care and attention to detail were exceptional. As it goes with weddings & wedding planning, things went wrong at various points of the buildup - but Dan & Ellen were resolved to assist however and whenever they could. They took a lot of the stress off us leading up to the big day simply for their diligence!
The venue itself has multiple options for locations, depending on your style. The entire site is beautiful with gorgeous backdrops of Virginia countryside. The fact it is a bed & breakfast is an added bonus. As a military family, with friends and relatives dispersed throughout the US, being able to coordinate close friends and family staying ON SITE was another tremendous relief for us and made choosing Briar Patch that much easier. There is plenty of parking for guests that would need to travel, so it was helpful knowing that we didn't need to focus on only a small group that could stay at the B&B.
The one piece of advice I will pass on to any future prospective couples is to make sure you coordinate with the winery next door! We had Darius Rucker's "Wagon Wheel" start blaring in the middle of a prayer and everyone got a good laugh out of the situation. It didn't detract from our wedding at all, but as it happened it was a "duh - should have thought of that" moment for sure :)

Let me start off by saying that the venue has its quirks. It is an old building, and during the pandemic it is clear that the business was hit hard in their ability to staff people to help with upkeep. I say all that just to let you know what to expect. HOWEVER, I could not imagine going with a different venue. Dan is the most wonderful host, and makes the process so easy for his wedding couples. While not necessarily cheap, you're able to book the entire venue for the entire weekend for what it costs at some venues for a 8 hour block of time. Honestly, being able to set things up the day before the wedding took so much stress off of the actual day. I can't imagine the stress levels we would have felt had we had to decorate everything day of. You as the guests are responsible for setting up/tearing down the ceremony site, which we were able to set up the day before. (I recommend Smokin Willys as a caterer as they were able to do the tear down for us included in their price). It is a more rustic feeling venue, and there are a bit more things to do on your own, but it is 100% worth it. We could not have imagined a more perfect day, and Dan and Ellen were a huge part of that! They aren't trying to nickel and dime you, they are open and honest with what they can do to help, and will work tirelessly to make sure your wedding goes off as planned. They are a small team, but they care so deeply about their couples. At the very least tour their facilities and see what they have to offer. You won't regret holding your wedding with them (even if your parents are a bit skeptical of the property). -

My wife and I were so lucky to have our wedding here - the owners are so personable, help you navigate each and every part of the process (which was such a relief, as I knew little about wedding planning/organization and norms for a venue), and they worked to accommodate us and our timing needs. The place is beautiful, the many areas and features of the setting are PERFECT for memorable picture-taking, and the experience will be one you treasure. My whole family was impressed and has a lot of fond memories, here. What a blessing! -

The Briar Patch was the perfect venue for our wedding. I actually did not visit that many places before I chose the Briar Patch because once I visited I knew it was the place for me. Dan and Ellen are such gracious hosts. They helped us out so much with our wedding and gave us great deals. We had the entire venue for the whole wedding weekend so it was a nonstop party for three days! I couldn't have asked for anything more! -

An amazing & all-inclusive venue!
My husband and I got married on June 29, 2019. From start to finish, the Briar Patch did an amazing job with our wedding. All of my questions, no matter how silly, were immediately answered. We were originally planning on having our wedding outside, but 72 hours prior, the weather forecast spiked and it was projected to be 104 degrees. I ended up changing our wedding to inside and they handled it with ease! Our wedding went off without a hitch and I am so grateful to Ellen and her team for making our wedding day a dream! -

Briar Patch July 4th Wedding
Thanks to Briar Patch's owners Dan and Ellen, their wonderful staff and the beautiful grounds, Our daughter was able to have a lovely wedding this past 4th of July! We enjoyed having many family and friends on the grounds which gave us more time to catch up with relatives while sharing breakfast or while enjoying the large front porch at various times during the weekend. Besides the "Fairy Tale" like setting (butterflies fluttering, birds singing and horses standing watch) for the outdoor ceremony, the reception hall is quite lovely with nice chandeliers and high ceilings. The venue was enjoyed by all and we were very pleased with our two days at The Briar Patch Inn in Middleburg, Va. -

This was the first and only venue we scoped out. Great accommodation options, awesome ceremony options (inside and outside) and an incredible reception area with everything you would need. Ellen and Dan have all the contacts and information and equipment to make your wedding a spectacular success and not to mention a huge amount of fun on your special day. I would highly recommend them to anyone. -

Andrea Sent on 10/29/2017I used Briar Patch for my October 21, 2017 wedding. Looking at wedding venues can be a discouraging task. Many places have really strict rules such as where you could have the wedding, times you’re allowed to use it, and even which vendors you could use. It was daunting trying to juggle which restrictions or accommodations you were or were not okay with. From the moment I arrived at Briar Patch and met the staff, I was blown away by how friendly and accommodating they were to my needs. The owner Ellen is 100% welcoming to her brides and supporting their dream weddings. They have a fantastic wedding package that includes not only housing in their main house but also the venue rental property itself for 3 days, 2 nights. While the sticker price may shock you at first, you balance it out with the fact that you can house much of your bridal party (or other guests), have a ample time to set-up/breakdown decorations, full use of their facilities such as extensive grounds, pool, and hot-tub, and fully furnished house and fully stocked kitchen. The staff is incredibly sweet and attentive, and you are not nitpicked or charged for every add on or request you want. This alone…the feeling of being cared for and treated fairly was one of the main reasons I went with Briar Patch. I felt like their biggest joy was in helping me have a spectacular wedding day and not just another tick on their checklist. The venue space is large, airy, and light. It has a very homey and warm feeling when done up, so it feels very intimate and cozy (yet trust me plenty of space for guests, dance floor, and decorations). I highly recommend this venue if you want a warm and loving reception, with a highly attentive staff, and a beautiful nature filled backdrop. Also, as a side note, I highly recommend hiring their in-house coordinating service. I used them and my day went off without a hitch with Ali as my day-of coordinator! -

Both the venue and staff at briar patch are amazing - easy to work with, professional, responsive, and full of helpful recommendations. We rented the entire B&B for our wedding party and hosted both the rehearsal dinner and ceremony/reception at the briar patch - it was a beautiful and stress free day, thanks to Ali, Henriette, and the rest of the team, including Alejandra, who baked fresh breakfasts for guests staying at the briar patch each morning and was helpful and cheerful presence the entire weekend long. Cannot say enough great things about this venue! -

When my husband and I began the wedding venue search, I had my heart set on Middleburg, VA. To us, it is an oasis - a quaint and beautiful town, just past the everyday hustle bustle of Northern Virginia we are all too familiar with. The Briar Patch was the first (and only) venue we toured, as I fell in love immediately! The Fox Den was the perfect combination of elegant and relaxed, and the grounds of the B&B were absolutely charming.
When our wedding weekend approached, I was blown away by how responsive, attentive, and accommodating the Briar Patch team was to my husband, myself, and our out of town guests. The owners and the managers exceeded all expectations, and the grounds proved to be even more idyllic than I had remembered. Having the Briar Patch from Friday - Sunday was absolutely amazing. We were able to host our rehearsal dinner on Friday, set up all DIY details well in advance, and have the main event on Saturday - all of which allowed my husband and I to truly relish each and every perfect moment of our wedding weekend.
The venue itself is reason enough to choose the Briar Patch for your wedding - gorgeous chandeliers, exposed beams, high ceilings, the works! Yet what really set the Briar Patch apart was the incredible amount of love, care, and affection each and every member of the Briar Patch team gave to our guests and our event. You can tell that they derive absolute joy from what they do, and it makes the world of a difference. Our wedding was utterly perfect, and we cannot wait to return for our one year anniversary! -

Henriette and Dan were available any time before the wedding for us when we had questions or wanted to make a visit to the building. During our wedding weekend everyone really enjoyed their rooms and the breakfast that we were able to eat together both days. Everyone that works there is incredibly helpful and attentive. On the day of our wedding it was raining on and off so at the last minute we decided to have the ceremony inside of the Fox Den instead of outside and it all came together beautifully. We got so many compliments on the Briar Patch during and after the wedding. It was the perfect atmosphere that we were looking for: relaxed and elegant. I can't say enough great things about the Briar Patch - everything went incredibly smooth and we actually had a few guests say that it was the best wedding they had been to! -

Wow, what an amazing venue. We were nervous having our wedding outside in November. But we lucked out with sunny skies and 60 degree weather. In case of bad weather, they have a great indoor option as well.
Approximately 200 of our guests sat on top of the hill overlooking the mountains of Virginia. After the ceremony, our guests made their way into the Fox Den (on the same property) for appetizer hour and entertainment. Dinner followed and the night went on. Oh! And we had our rehearsal dinner at The Fox Den the night before our wedding as well and they let us put up decorations for the next day.
Charlotte and Henrietta were such great people to work with. Their calming personalities ensured we would have a great wedding. They responded quickly and were always ready and provided us anything we needed. Dan was great ensuring they would work with our budget.
We did a lot of research, (probably like you right now :) ) and we are so happy and blessed with our decision. Million dollar views, amazing staff members, rooms for your guests and cottage for the wedding couple to stay in over night all for an extremely good price. I would book before someone takes your date! -

Sarah Sent on 06/08/2012Aaron and I had our entire "wedding weekend" at the fabulous Briar Patch B&B! We had a small intimate rehearsal dinner and wedding on the lush grounds and like us, our guests enjoyed their time there immensely!
We had only 35 people at the rehearsal, and originally slated to be held on the patio (overlooking the lovely view of the Blue Ridge Mtns), storms in the area had other plans! With no hassle we were able to move everything into the bronze room and it was perfect!! If you are looking to have an outdoor wedding..this place is great! If it is hot, go inside to the AC! If it rains or snows...go inside! The staff at the Briar Patch (especially Henriette, their on site coordinator) make it so easy to transition, there is no stress!
Our wedding ceremony was also on the grounds, underneath a gorgeous oak tree near a beautiful fence. The area is quiet and the tree throws perfect shade for guests! The chairs for the ceremony are cute and the arbors to choose from are fabulous!
Our reception was held in the Gold Fox room. Before the wedding Henriette showed me all the hard work she and the other staff had put into dressing the tables and placing my decorations....AMAZING! I cried as I saw what an amazing job everyone had done to make my wedding dreams a reality.
Henriette is an amazing coordinator with a great eye for detail and creativity. She also is very professional and kind, always willing to listen to an agitated bride's rant! On short notice she secured me a new caterer ONE WEEK before the wedding! In short, Henriette is a MUST when having your wedding at the Briar Patch, especially if you are planning from a far (like we did).
Ellen, Dan, Henriette, and Charlotte are the BEST! They are all understanding, supportive, and kind! ALL of our guests came from outside of VA (Massachusetts, Kansas, New Jersey, Ohio, and California!) and they all raved about the service, the beautiful rooms, and many said they felt as if they were "at home" while staying in the main house! Two of my bridesmaids even were able to check in early, free of charge, due to travel difficulties.
The price of the BP is also something to note. In an area of VA that can be very expensive, Briar Patch does a wonderful job of keeping with in a Bride's budget....when my husband and I found out the price of a WHOLE WEEKEND...we immediately signed up! (You can rent the entire main house, grounds, cottage, and reception venue....no one can bother you all weekend!)
I could rant on and on, but in the end the Briar Patch and it's staff made our day, and the day for our families the best we could ever ask for!
