Wedding details
The story from the Bride's point of view: Michael and I are BIGTIME nerdy geeks. We love Star Wars, Star Trek, Lord of the Rings, sci-fi, fantasy, tabletop gaming, console gaming, comics, cosplaying, anime, comic book conventions, and many other geeky things. We met at the San Diego Comic-Con in July 2008. I was dressed as a character from our favorite web comic, Girl Genius, and I was hanging out at the Girl Genius booth. Michael wanted a picture with me and I was already a little wierded out over all the creepy guys who had groped me, asked for my number, and behaved in other very off-putting ways (and just to quell a common nerd stereotype, no, not ALL nerdy guys are like this. There are just as many creepy nerds as there are creepy jocks/popular types/"normal" people/etc...). I wasn't very friendly towards him but I let him get a picture with me, and then ran away. I'm a costumer steamstress and I put my contact information all over Girl Genius fan forums in the hopes of attracting customers. Michael saw me on the forums and realized I was the person he met at Comic Con. He contacted me through AIM and asked me if I wanted a copy of the photo we took together. I, still being a bit freaked out, blocked him on every social website I could think of and was quite content to never hear from him again. Defeated, he sent me the photo through e-mail and said he would leave me alone. After a few months, I finally looked at the photo and was surprised to see a very attractive man in that photo with me. He was well-dressed and well-groomed, tall, had beautiful blue eyes, a very nice smile, and had actually been very polite and respectful. And obviously if he had been there at Comic Con he was a geeky geek just like me! What the $%*@ was wrong with me?! At this point I was a bit too embarrassed to talk to him so I just contented myself with looking at photos of him on his deviantArt gallery and admiring his own costumes that he'd put together himself... along with a photo or two of him in his fencing gear! Finally some friends convinced me to send him a message, asking if he wanted to hang out sometime. After all, the worst he could say is no, right? To my pleasant surprise he responded favorably and before long we were chatting on AIM day and night and we were eveng flirting within hours. On our first date we stayed in and watched the awesomely geeky NBC show "Chuck". Er, at least we tried to. We might have gotten a little distracted... We were officially a couple in December 2009 and moved in together in August 2010. Three years to the day after we met, Michael proposed to me in that very same spot that we took a picture together right next to the Girl Genius booth at Comic Con. We were dressed as Chuck Bartowski and Sarah Walker from the NBC show "Chuck". He had set up a very elaborate adventure for us that involved a doomsday device, storm troopers, the Guild of Calamitous Intent, a scatter-brained Dr. Venture, and some mad scientists. After disarming the doomsday device, it opened up and inside was the ring. As far as the dream geeky proposal, it doesn't get any better than that! However, it DID get better as none other than Zachary Levi who portrays Chuck Bartowski on "Chuck" (and is the voice of Flynn Rider in Disney's "Tangled" for you non-geeky types) came rushing out to meet us when he heard that Chuck and Sarah cosplayers just got engaged.
