Wedding Cakes in South Bend

We loved our cake from Carmela! We had fallen in love with one cake that was done with fondant, but Carmela is exclusively buttercream. Fortunately we picked a relatively simple design to work with, so she was able to emulate the image we liked, but make ours taste even better! (Fondant cakes can look pretty...but you're definitely sacrificing the taste.) My ONLY quasi-negative remark (and I'm still giving a 5-star because this could be my venue's fault for cutting too small) was that I think we had too much cake. We went home with the top TWO layers of our cake!

C'est La Vie Cakes was recommended to us by Bell Mare. My husband loves baking for others and loves variety we came in uncertain if one white wedding cake was for us. C'est La Vie came up with a design to incorporate our wedding colors into our cake and gave us several cupcake tastings to try. We came up with one wedding cake and several small cupcakes for our big day. The flavors were a huge hit and by the end of the night all the cupcakes were gone and there were only a few slices of cake left. Her blueberry lemon cupcakes were the most popular!

Sue made four different flavors of mini cupcakes for my daughter's wedding, which were all beautiful as well as delicious. All of the guests at the reception loved them!

The best advice I was given for planning a wedding is to choose to work with talented and nice people. Randy and Diana Hopkins are just those kind of people -- the kind of vendors one wants when planning a wedding. Diana is an absolutely genius in the kitchen. The cake cutting aspect of the wedding held little meaning for me, but I wanted my guests to be fed and fed WELL. I went back and forth with what I wanted, and Diana always responded immediately with a "yes, I can do that" attitude and lots and lots of encouragement. I had a vision of a Laura Ingalls Wilder type of dessert feast table - old fashioned cakes and pies and strudels. Diana was up for it. And she would have nailed it. Eventually, I simplified and chose one size fits all, good old-fashioned All-American apple pie. Since we got married in February, we had a taste test at Thanksgiving with our family. Diana baked TWO kinds of apple pies for us to choose from - both are delightful and the votes were 50/50. For the wedding we went with the more decadent option (the apple pie with the strudel topping). We got LOTS of compliments on the pies at the wedding - LOTS. People devoured them, wanted seconds, etc. I have ultimate trust in this baker. She is an artist. Hire her.

We hired Deb at Hoosier Mama Confections to do our wedding cake and cupcakes. We sampled many different flavors and couldn't pick which 3 we liked the best, so she let us choose 4 different flavors for our cupcakes. She was very easy to get ahold of and very responsive to my emails. Everybody raved over how great the cupcakes were, and they were very reasonably priced! I would highly recommend Hoosier Mama Confections!
