Perfect venue for a wedding weekend

We had our wedding at The Winthrop Carter House in August of 2021. This was the perfect venue for what we were looking for in our wedding weekend.

Having the opportunity to spend the whole weekend right at the venue with our bridal party made for such terrific memories, and our families and guests were all able to stay just down the road in Concord. The house was spacious and comfortable, and made for great wedding photos in the barn and bridal room. We had plenty of space throughout the whole grounds for our entire wedding weekend, we used the barn for our rehearsal dinner, and we had a beautiful outdoor ceremony out in the back garden followed by the reception in the back lawn where we had rented a large tent.

Katie and Colm were very helpful throughout the planning process, and we can't recommend the venue enough for your wedding weekend!

Venue Perfection

The Winthrop Carter House is an experience. When we first entered the barn a year before our wedding we knew this is were we were to be married. Katy and her husband were a pleasure to work with and beyond kind. Sherri Collis the wedding coordinator who works with the venue was a dream. The WCH allows you to stay onsite from Thursday - Sunday and allows your vision to come to light. The property is well kept and gorgeous. We did everything from playing yard games, making smores at the fire pit, got glammed right on site, to having the most beautiful places to take photos. This vintage Barn and property has it all!

Beautiful and convenient. So happy with WCH!

Winthrop Carter House was the most beautiful and convenient venue I could have imagined. It was a quick ride from the highway with ample space and parking. The house was clean and beautifully adorned. Yes, it's a bit pricey, but having the property Thursday-Sunday made it easy to welcome guests before and after the actual wedding on Saturday, taking some pressure off. The ceremony and reception spots are dreamy with vast forest and natural beauty. All our guests buzzed with how pretty everything looked. We saved money on decor because the barn itself works wonderfully for a wedding backdrop once it's all set up! We loved our time at WCH and hope to return for some future event! Highly recommend.

Beautiful venue

This is a beautiful venue although they do not provide a bar and food which allows for outside catering it could be a bit pricey. It is beautiful for the rustic barn wedding style that most are striving for these days.

My husband and I were married at the Winthrop Carter House earlier this month and we cannot say enough good things about the experience! It was important for us to hold our wedding in a setting that allowed lots of time with family and friends, and this venue provided just that. We arrived early on Thursday when we settled in to the house (the rooms are stunning and so comfortable!) and set up the barn. On Friday, we enjoyed a relaxing day at the house (unfortunately the weather did not cooperate with our plans to go kayaking down the road) and had our rehearsal dinner on the patio with a welcoming campfire to follow. We got married on Saturday under the birch arbor and then danced the night away in the barn, capping off the festivities by relaxing by the fire pit. After enjoying a post wedding brunch Sunday morning, we did some clean up and left the house late afternoon. The weekend was a blast and most importantly, stress free! Katy and Colm are AMAZING and were so helpful and flexible throughout the planning process. When it came to the wedding weekend, they met us at the house to ensure that we had everything we needed and checked in on occasion throughout the weekend. They have such big hearts and truly care about you having the best experience of your life. The venue is GORGEOUS and needs very little decorating, but I loved how we had the flexibility and freedom to set things up how we wanted and bring in any vendor. The day of coordinator (who was included in the venue contract), Christina, impressed everyone on our wedding day. She was so kind, professional, extremely helpful... whatever needed to be done, she was on it! (Side note: it is VERY handy to have Cumberland Farms across the street for any last minute needs!) I feel like l could go on forever about how wonderful everything at WCH is, but I will just leaving it as this: This venue has it all. If you are looking for a true wedding "experience" and not just a few hours at a venue, this is your place!

Wedding Venue of my Dreams!

I've always heard that weddings are a whirlwind and that the day goes so fast. We were specifically looking for a venue where we could get all of our friends and family together so we could savor the whole weekend together. The Winthrop Carter House was the perfect mix of beauty, boho, DIY, and everything a bride could ask for.

I loved that most of the bridal party could stay on-site for the whole weekend. Since it was Labor Day Weekend, the venue was flexible in adjusting our days to Friday-Monday (most weddings there take place Thurs-Sun). Our close friends and family came up on Friday for the Rehearsal Dinner, which was very low key and DIY. We hosted it in the barn with just 3 of the long farm tables and brought catering up from our favorite restaurant in CT. On Saturday, we invited everyone for a day of BBQing and lawn games (a big trip to BJs was everything we needed).

The wedding took place on Sunday. The bridal suite was absolutely perfect and so beautiful for photos. A few of my bridesmaids mentioned how perfect it was that their rooms were just a floor above, so they could go back and forth as needed. The boys were busy in the barn getting ready and calming their nerves. There are 3 different ceremony sites to choose from - we chose the one with the pine trees in the background.

When you book the venue, you get access to Creations by Collis - a wedding planning service. With booking, you get the basics and Sherri gives you the option to add on her extra services. We ended up adding on the set up/clean up which was SO worth it. The next package up to help with the flow of the day was way too pricey, and we were able to handle the flow with friends/family and an amazing DJ. The DJ did mention that he was a bit taken back by how much the wedding planning company was not super helpful, but luckily our DJ was absolutely incredible (DJ Manolo @ ECF Entertainment). The wedding ceremony, dinner, and dancing all went perfectly. We hosted a farewell brunch on Sunday with leftover BBQ from the night before.

This venue was a picturesque dream and I would highly recommend!!

Beautiful venue for the whole family

My husband and I got married at The Winthrop Carter House in October 2018. We were excited about the DIY venue and the fact you get the venue Thursday - Sunday. We absolutely loved our time spent with family on Thursday and Friday setting up and just enjoying the property with our closest friends and family. We hosted our rehearsal dinner at the house as well. When first booking response time was slow; however, they brought on an outside person to take on the wedding coordinating which helped a lot. Overall, the venue was gorgeous and we were thrilled with our experience.

The venue itself was beautiful. There were still some unfinished projects around the house and barn when we were there (which we were not made aware of before arrival), but the barn, house, and grounds will really be wonderful once the loose ends are tied up. It's unfortunate that it is situated on a not-so-pretty main road, but that wasn't a huge issue for us because the entrance to the barn and the ceremony site are tucked away in the back. We did not have any issues with traffic noise during the wedding. We really liked that we were able to stay on-site for the days around the wedding, which allowed us time to set things up and socialize with family and friends. It was also very nice at the end of the wedding night because we didn't have to worry about travelling to offsite accommodations. One thing to be aware of is that the roof of the barn seemed to be a bit leaky. Hopefully fixing that will be one of the projects that will be completed soon. Our biggest complaint with the Winthrop Carter House was the communication during the planning process. Although the owners are very nice and accommodating when you speak with them, it was often difficult to get a hold of them. If us or our wedding planner sent an email with a few simple questions we would often not hear back for 1-2 weeks. It made it really tough to coordinate with other vendors and often made it impossible to make decisions in a timely manner. We did not bombard them with emails or anything, so it was really frustrating to not hear back when we did need something. I do know that this is a newer venue, so much of this may just be growing pains as they adjust to running the venue. Overall we would recommend the venue if you love the idea of a romantic and rustic wedding, but be aware that you may run into some bumps and added stress during the planning process. If you are looking for a no-stress, full service venue, you may want to consider other options.
