About

Interested in having a friend or family member officiate your wedding?

The Universal Life Church (ULC) believes that all faiths are best served by the freedom and choice to become ordained online. This includes the freedom to perform weddings, perform baptisms or perform funerals for friends and family, regardless of one's spiritual or religious denomination.

We realize that the world of weddings is huge and full of ideas. We would like to offer you a starting point for wedding basics. Our Universal Life Church ministers have researched how weddings are performed according to many different cultural and religious traditions. The knowledge and overviews offered in the wedding officiant training sections will help you get up to speed on how different weddings are performed all around the world.

If you are newly engaged and researching what type of wedding ceremony you would prefer, or what type of wedding officiant will best suit your style as a couple, then this is also the place for you! If you are having a difficult time choosing a wedding officiant, you should consider having a friend or family member get ordained to perform your marriage ceremony. Choosing a person who is special to the couple to perform the wedding ceremony can add meaning and significance to this important occasion.

Officiants

I was able to certify our best friend so he could be our officiant at our wedding. The cost was great and all the paper work was mailed to him within a week.

Very helpful and informative. Our friend married us through this church and it was absolutely the best decision we made.

We had a family friend get ordained through the Universal Life Church - it was incredibly easy, and FREE! I actually got ordained, too, just so I could practice the process and walk our friend through it if she needed help. I think this is the most special way to get married: next to the person you love, listening to the voice of someone who cares about you both, and will be there to support you in the future. LOVED IT!

I just got ordained online 8/1/2016 to perform weddings in California. I hope this will help someone in the future.

My aunt was ordained through Universal Life Church Monastery online so she could perform our service. I would HIGHLY recommend having someone close to you to perform your ceremony if you can. It made our day so personal and memorable. She did a magnificent job with our service and we were able to customize it to be exactly what we wanted thanks to the flexibility of having her do it. The ordainment process was pretty easy for her through Universal Life Church (the same one Conan O'Brien used to get ordained) BUT she ended up having to pay twice to get the right credentials (notarized letter, etc) for our county to authorize her to perform the ceremony. It's a little bit of a racket when it comes to how they send you things and you can end up duplicating efforts if you're not careful. So pay attention to what you're doing and ask your local authorities ahead of time to give you a list of what you need BEFORE your minister goes through with anything on the site. It can save you time and money. Other than that, we are very pleased with the opportunity that Universal Life Church allowed us to have the perfect person make the reason we were there (the ceremony) go off without (or I guess WITH) a hitch!
