Superb venue and team

Christina and her team were with us all the way throughout the long and stressful process of wedding planning, doing everything they could to help us - and even more helpful the day of the wedding! Highly recommend them if you have the chance! Lovely, romantic, elegant venue that just keeps getting better.

Best Day Ever

Amazing property, interior was just as great. Everyone loved the scenery and location. The parking lot had plenty of space for our guests. They were escorted to and from when needed. Absolutely perfect, we had the best time ever for our Star Wars Wedding

They were very professional and helpful with every aspect from beginning to end of the wedding.

I was planning a wedding in 2 months and they helped to make this as easy as possible. They set up appointments to keep you on track. The bartender and DJ were taken care of through the venue and wonderful, which took some stress off of me. They were great in setting up all the extras we brought to make everything perfect. This venue is amazing and they go the extra mile to make sure that everything goes off with out any hiccups. I highly recommend them to anyone.

A beautiful and seamless experience

We worked with Thunderhead Pines for a dinner event and the process could not have been smoother or more enjoyable. Christina and Jennifer were wonderful to work with, and did everything they could to make the night go smoothly.

The space was a beautiful mix of rustic and classic elegance. We absolutely plan to work with them again!

Beautiful Venue; Horrific Staff

I had my wedding at Thunderhead Pines on August 31st, 2024. I’ve put some serious consideration into even reviewing the venue, because we had a great time at our wedding and have been enjoying our married life but ultimately, I do think an honest review from a bride’s perspective would help others if they are considering this venue.
First and foremost, this is an absolutely gorgeous venue. The only real issue with this venue is ownership, Christina. When you book this venue, you discuss all of their planning assistance, and rules and regulations for the day. What Christina fails to mention is that there really is no “assisting” in the planning, she will just bulldoze you throughout the entire process. She does provide helpful documents but does not allow you to fill them in yourself, she needs to be “in charge” of everything. Throughout our planning, she frequently forgot things, notated things incorrectly, or just flat out wasted our time by “required” onsite planning meetings where we would never get anything accomplished because she would talk about herself the entire time or push us out of décor, ideas, and other things we wanted because it didn’t fit “her vision”.
Wedding rehearsal was extremely odd. She was very domineering and quite rude to mine and my husband’s family and friends. Come wedding day, my bridesmaids and I get to the bridal suite on the agreed upon time and notice that it was locked. Luckily, we were able to find an open door and get into the suite as we had hair and makeup arriving early (which she knew about). A morning that was supposed to be relaxing was stressful as Christina watched us all like hawks. She constantly lingered in corners of the room, just watching – it was quite uncomfortable. The groom and groomsmen were yelled at frequently as they were getting ready, minus one, who Christina became very fond of (weird). She texted this groomsmen our wedding pictures prior to my husband and I seeing them.
Our ceremony started 30 to 45 minutes late because Christina wasn’t “ready” causing several guests to stand for a prolonged amount of time in the heat. Contractually, we were told that we were to have two bartenders, and two bars open at all times, this was not the case. Her husband, Scott, was the only bartender all night. Their “one drink per person” rule was taken extremely too far. One person was not allowed to order drinks for themselves and their significant other causing long lines all night. Scott was telling multiple people that we had “run out of alcohol”, which was absolutely not the case. They treated grown adults like children all night long, which left many guests very upset. We were also told that we had no leftover food. One of my bridesmaids saw Christina’s staff eating out of our leftover food containers with forks. My mother, the point of contact for any issues, got involved and Christina was more worried about her kids getting free desserts that were left over. Christina mentioned this to me during the reception that my mom was upset with her and that wanted to make sure I don’t care if her kids have desserts.
Also included in our contract was that her staff was to help clean up and load cars, this never happened. My mother and grandfather loaded all of the cars themselves.
After the wedding, my FIL went to retrieve our deposit which was not returned to us. She hard pressed him into leaving it as a “tip” to which he declined. She ended up giving him $400 instead of $500.
Moral of the story, every single person at my wedding knew who Christina was and had something negative to say about her. Her husband clearly doesn’t want to be involved in the business, as shown by how extremely rude he was to everyone that attended my wedding. These are not fun-loving, helpful people. They are controlling, narcissistic, and have zero social awareness; probably would be best if they brought in someone with people skills to run the weddings.

Overall terrible experience

Overall terrible experience.
I thought that we had found a nice, reasonably priced venue but in hindsight I would have spent twice as much to not have dealt with the problems we had. It’s incredibly embarrassing to have to talk with a wide variety of our guests, all of which had negative experiences throughout the night. My now wife reached out to Christina, the venue owner, listing all the issues we had with our wedding. In response Christina dismissed every single one, denied any accountability, and even demeaned and spoke down to my wife.

We had many issues but I wanted to narrow it down to 3 that I hope to make others aware of.

1. Christina was incredibly controling throughout this entire process. And this really showed up on the wedding day in a number of ways. Specifically she heavily restricted the alcohol that our guests consumed the entire night. There was a ridiculously long line due to her VERY strict one drink per person policy. This even applies to a husband not being able to get a drink for both he and his wife at one time. We were assured that they would put multiple servers behind the bar if this were to happen but this was never the case. Instead we had huge lines consistently throughout the entire evening. Christina has told us both on our wedding night, and multiple times since that this is because “she has never seen people drink the way that we were”. She even went as far as to stop serving the drinks, lying to both us and our guests saying that we had run out of alcohol. We later found out that this was far from the truth and that she was actually just cutting us off from the alcohol which WE HAD BOUGHT. Specifically the drink everyone wanted that night were high noons, which we ended up with over 10 cases of the original 16 that we bought. Since then she Insinuated that everyone was hammered and drinking far too much and that this was the reason for her decision. while this was blatantly wrong to anyone who attended as this was an incredibly tame wedding, I wanted to give evidence and draw this back to actual numbers to support my side of the argument. We spent $2,400 on alcohol, this was inclusive of any beer liquor, any mixers, etc. and have just today received a check back from the distributor who we originally bought them for $1,100! Nearly half of the alcohol purchased was never drank. So Christina stopped serving us alcohol even though our guests actually had very little. I’m not sure why this is something I have to even argue but this is what you will deal with when going to thunderhead pines. We had family and friends come from all across the country, with over half of our wedding staying at the local hotel. I’m not sure why we weren’t allowed to enjoy the night the way that we had wanted to.
2. This was previously brought up in one of my wife’s reviews but wanted to give an update. Christina offered her shuttle service to us and we accepted. Ultimately she sent the shuttle to the wrong hotel from what we had blocked off. So we had guests waiting ahead of our ceremony who ultimately had to drive, and at the end of the night we had people who had to walk in the dark down the street as her driver refused to drop them off at the CORRECT hotel. It wasn’t until my wife and I, on the very last shuttle got to the wrong hotel and ultimately pressed the driver to go to the CORRECT hotel. While this was incredibly frustrating, it is a mistake and an oversight which can be understandable and happen from time to time. The part that I find unacceptable is Christina’s lack of accountability for even such a black and white issue such as this. While she clearly made a mistake, she denied and refused that this were the case. We have dozens of guests who confirmed and unfortunately told us their experiences. Despite this she demanded that this did not in fact happen and all guests were appropriately picked up.
3. The last item, is one we have been dealing with since the wedding. While we were not contractually obligated to clean up after the wedding we were for some reason charged $500 for the fact that there were edible marijuana gummies ingested by her dog. I’m not worried about the money but the fact that she directed and accused so much blame on us for her and her staffs oversight while cleaning is what I find ridiculous. While I do feel terrible that her dog was impacted by this, this would be the same as if someone dropped an aspirin bottle and her dog ingested the entire thing. I’m just not sure how we are at fault for this incident. The other big detail to note here is, we have NO IDEA if this truly belonged to one of our guests and she does not either. If this was missed by her workers once it likely could have been missed multiple times.

I just want to emphasize that I don’t think that this controlling attitude works well with wedding events. While the venue itself is nice, I just imagine that this will happen far more times unless Christina decides to drastically change the way she is running these.

Not worth the drama

The venue itself is beautiful! Unfortunately it comes with staff that is not so great and you do not have an option to not use them. Christina is the owner and "coordinator" who came up to me the entire night of my wedding with any and every problem she could think of. I was not able to enjoy my wedding day mostly because she was constantly pulling me aside. We did not get our security deposit back because someone vomited in the bathroom and people brought their own beer (which we stopped people from doing before the dancing even begun.) She works with you before the wedding and plans most of it but is very pushy and wants you to do things the way she wants not what the bride wants. There are many things to list that she did unfairly to us, some of them including; pushing a groomsmen, blaming me for not being able to handle enforcing her own facility rules, and she wasn't letting people go back to their own vehicles. She was more focused on people drinking their own beer than just sitting back and trying to make it a good day for my husband and I. Our friends who were in the wedding mentioned how Christina was rude to them, truly unfortunate. 0/10 would not recommend this venue.
We're all about trust. Our community relies on honest reviews to help you make those big decisions with ease.
