About

On WeddingWire since 2013

The Olmstead is a historic wedding venue in Louisville, Kentucky, located on an 81-acre site that was once home to the Masonic Homes of Kentucky. Constructed from 1925 to 1927, this venue was designed by Joseph and Joseph, an architectural firm, who arranged the plan so the building was located on the outer edge of the property. The dining hall is located at the center of the property since, way back then, it was the hub for the activities of every occupant. The plan for The Olmstead was later developed by the Olmstead Brothers firm, who specialized in preserving natural areas.

Facilities and Capacity
The Olmstead has three event spaces (ranging from indoor to uncovered outdoor) than can accommodate a maximum of 600 guests. Johnson Hall (the dining hall) sat nearly vacant from the 80s to the late 90s, but has now hosted over 1000 families in addition to the rest of The Olmstead’s facilities. Enjoy your wedding in this beautiful, historic location, complete with tree-lined driveways and two large, open, grassy areas.

Services Offered
The Olmstead provides couples with space for ceremonies and receptions, and has ample parking and wheelchair access for you and your guests. Services include clean-up, event planning, in-house bar, in-house catering, lighting/sound, outside vendors, and set-up. In addition to a dance floor, couples can choose from a variety of event rentals to add to their day:

  • Audio equipment
  • Centerpieces
  • Chairs
  • Furniture
  • Lighting
  • Tables

Cuisine
While dinners are available for couples at The Olmstead, you can also choose to have breakfast/brunch in the dining hall. Servers are able to cater meals that come in buffet, plated, and station styles, and hors d’oeuvres and dessert are available to complement your dishes. Cake cutting services can be provided and outside cakes are permitted. Cocktail receptions and tastings are also available. The in-house bar at The Olmstead can be limited or open and comes complete with bartenders who can serve:

  • House beer
  • House liquor
  • House wine
  • Premium liquor
  • Signature drink

Highly Recommend!

The Olmsted was nothing short of perfection for our wedding. After having planned everything with Jeri and her staff for a 220 person wedding in May 2020, we abruptly had to cancel our plans and reschedule because of COVID. We rescheduled for August 2020 and eventually had to reduce the number of guests to 50. Jeri was absolutely amazing to work with through all of this. She spent countless hours with us answering all of our questions, letting us pick an entirely new menu and bar package, and making sure our wedding was going to safe for our guests and overall COVID friendly. The day of, the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. They constantly made sure I had everything I needed (but not in an annoying way!) and I had many guests tell me how much they loved the bartender. This was truly the perfect venue for our wedding!

Beautiful!

We had our reception at the Olmsted a few weeks ago and it did not disappoint! It was beautiful and gave a very classy feel to the reception. I worked mostly with the event coordinator, Jeri, and she was able to capture everything that I ever wanted! She was flexible, quick to respond, and willing to meet whenever I wanted. If you're looking for a wonderful and beautiful venue with amazing food, you've found it!

Perfect...even from half a country away!

Jeri, Claire, Sherlon and the rest of the staff at The Olmsted are amazing! We planned our wedding from Colorado and we are so grateful for how flexible and helpful everyone at the Olmsted was in the process. Even from 2000 miles away Jeri and Claire could see my vision and helped me put it into action. And, as would be expected, the food was phenomenal. Trust me, you won’t find all these included services, at this reasonable a price, and delivered with such enthusiasm as you will at The Olmsted. Each staff member we interacted with was friendly, helpful, and provided a personal level of service you don’t regularly enjoy. Thank you, all of you, for a wonderfully perfect wedding experience!
