The Martin Event Space is one of Kansas City’s most historic venues, with a remarkable story of resilience. Originally built as a church in 1890, it became a symbol of hope in 1957 when the Ruskin Heights Tornado devastated Martin City. While nearly every structure around it was destroyed, the church—with its newly added basement—sheltered over 30 people and stood as the only building to survive, giving hope and faith to restore our community.

In 2015, the building was thoughtfully restored and transformed into The Martin Event Space, where we continue its legacy of bringing people together. Today, we proudly host weddings, celebrations, and community events in a space that blends rich history with modern charm.

At The Martin, our passion goes beyond providing a venue—we deliver full-service hospitality. From event coordination and décor, to in-house catering, bar services, and more, we handle the details so our clients can be fully present in their celebration. Our goal is simple: to create stress-free, meaningful experiences where life’s most important moments can truly shine!

I love this venue!

I love The Martin Event Space! Rachel, is so bubbly, friendly and very accommodating. I had the opportunity to officiate a wedding at this venue and everything was pristine. From the rehearsal to the reception, it went smoothly. I especially enjoyed the atmosphere, openness and history of this place. Kudos for the amazing in house sound system as well! I can’t wait to officiate another wedding at this venue!

Excellent venue for our wedding

Rachel and her team did an amazing job making our daughter’s wedding and reception wonderful. Communication was prompt and professional. The appetizers and BBQ dinner was delicious and our guests told us it was the best they ever had at a wedding. The bridal suite and groom’s suite were perfect for our pre-wedding prep. We wouldn’t hesitate to have another event at The Martin Event Space.

Beautiful space!

What a great space. It was beautiful and I loved all the lights. The lady who runs it worked with us very well. Staff went above and beyond to help!

Martin Event Space

After reviewing so many spaces in the metro, the choice was simple when it came to Martin Event Space - Sidney went above and beyond to ensure our wedding day was perfect, we were both taken back at how stunning the space was - it was more than we could have aske for. The bartenders were so engaging with the guests, which made for an even better night - we got so lucky with the crew at the Martin. I would recommend this team 1000x to anyone looking for a stress free and fun time - they are the best!

Your venue search is over! BOOK. THIS. PLACE. We booked The Martin for our wedding reception and we could not have been happier with our decision! We booked about a year in advance and worked with Brittaney to tour and reserve the space. Our main reasons for booking were because of their amazing craft beer selection and their beautiful rustic atmosphere, but other pros were an in-house kitchen, plenty of parking, and they were reasonably priced compared to similar venues in the downtown area. They also have a raised stage area which served perfectly as a large dance floor, as well as a pretty garden with a fire pit on the side of the venue. Our cook was also simply amazing. We had a hard time deciding which meals to go with because they were all delicious! In the middle of the planning process, we met with the new coordinator named Kelly and WOW. We cannot say enough good things about her!! From the moment we met, to the very end of our big day, she was so personable, helping everything go smoothly, answering questions with a smile, helping out our vendors, bridesmaids, groomsmen, parents.. and especially US! I was very picky in how I wanted the space and decorations set up (even sending her a floor plan and expansive list of how I wanted it), and she made sure it was done to a T. She ensured our time at The Martin was nothing less than perfect and we cannot thank her enough. We even received such a nice card and a bomber of my favorite Martin City beer from her at the end that was just the cherry on top of it all. Completely above and beyond. Can I give them 10/5 stars? I cannot recommend The Martin enough!

So happy that we booked The Martin for our wedding reception! We are from KC but live in North Carolina right now, so I planned everything from far away and it could not have been easier. Kara is amazing and so great to work with! She was very quick to respond to all of my questions and was so accommodating throughout the whole process. First, when we were thinking about booking the venue, she met with my parents for a tour so they could FaceTime us so we could see the inside of the venue. [Yes, we fell in love and booked it after this without actually seeing it in person. It's a beautiful venue & we received so many compliments on it from our guests.] Then after we booked our date, she made it a priority to work around my schedule to meet with me for a tasting and planning meeting when I was only in town for a few days. [The food was delicious and we had a hard time deciding what to serve because it was all SO good.] Then to top it off, she made sure to check on us throughout the reception to make sure we were having fun and took time to eat [we only had appetizers & no set meal time so we really did have to make it a point to find a time to eat in between the dancing, talking to guests, etc.]. To add to all of this, it was so fun to be able to have their brewery beers on tap for our guests - such a unique touch offered at The Martin. The staff is also wonderful and even helped make sure our candy bar stayed stocked and that the cupcakes were out - these were things we brought in ourselves so we were planning on taking care of them, but Kara offered to help and it was so nice to not have to worry about! I won't ruin the surprise, but I will say that we also received a special gift from Kara & The Martin - another special touch! I could go on and on about all of the great things, but will let you see for yourself because I'm sure that you will love it just like we did!
