About

When founding members created the club, they envisioned a small organization to further their garden research and to enhance city spaces. Because they did not have a place to meet, they gathered in members' homes which limited enrollment. However, by 1930 the new club was such a success that over 100 women had asked to join and garden circles were initiated. The first four circles were Founders, Azalea, Camellia and Oleander. Circles continue to meet monthly from September to May, and they now meet at the Garden Center in Gainesville or at other locations in the surrounding area.

During the early years the Garden Club focused on civic projects and city planning and in the 1940's were active in providing assistance to servicemen and in sending packages overseas to war torn Europe. The Garden Club with other civic organizations worked together to establish a Community Cultural Center, a portion of which was allocated to the Garden Club for a library and meeting place; the Garden Club members landscaped and maintained the grounds of the Center.

I had my ceremony on the patio and reception inside. The outdoors is beautiful with carefully manicured grass, flowers, and plants. It was the perfect setting for gorgeous pictures. The inside of the building was easy to decorate. There is a kitchen and a wall of cabinets for food, which they allow to be catered or cooked there, and a stage which is where we put our head table. There were so many great options for set up depending on how many guests you have. Everything was so beautiful. Linda was so helpful and let us in multiple times to measure and visualize. The custodian who was there during our wedding was amazing, so helpful and sweet. This was the most affordable location we found and it offered both a place for the ceremony and reception and also had a back up building for rent in case it rained. I would recommend this venue to everyone!

We had a great experience working with the Gainesville Garden Club. They set up the room according to your specifications. They even have table linens you can rent as well. They area very flexible and do not have a lot of rules on things you can and can not bring into the venue. Very affordable and beautiful venue!

After a change in management occurred between me booking the venue and my wedding a lot of problems occurred due to “the lack of communication” between the former lease manager and the new one and me. The week of my wedding was chaotic dealing with this venue and trying to get everything in order. The biggest problem was they were planning to allow us 4 hours the day of the wedding for decorating and then 5 hours for the event, however, when I booked it was explained to me that we would have all day at the venue. What happened was they tried telling us we had 4 hours from 10-2 for prep then would have to leave and come back for the event from 5-10. Idk how they expect you to decorate the venue for your wedding while your getting ready the morning of, then expect you to leave for a couple hours to come back later for the wedding which was scheduled to start at 4:30. It was very stressful and frustrating trying to figure things out with them meaning someone from the garden club had to be present the whole time. Eventually, they were able to split the duties between two people and allowed us the whole day. After paying almost 2000 for the venue for full use of the grounds and all facilities I feel your money would be better spent at location that holds wedding more frequently and understands the needs for wedding day activities. We originally booked at the Thomas Center for less than we payed for this venue and I regret not sticking with that location after all the hassle with this venue. There were many other problems that occurred this was just one. The people are nice enough, they just do not have the proper policies and procedures in place if they intend to rent this place as a wedding venue in my opinion. I had a nice wedding day and the venue looked beautiful in my pictures I just wish it would have been an easier process.
