HISTORY of SAM HILL WAREHOUSE

President Abraham Lincoln established the Arizona Territory in 1863 and when gold was discovered a year later on Granite Creek, Prescott became the territorial capital.

Soon, the Arizona Central Railway was opened and it became a branch of the Santa Fe. 9 years later, the Santa Fe, Prescott and Phoenix Railroad connected Prescott's growing mining areas with other towns and railroad lines. The railroad bolstered mercantile supply to Prescott resulting in new dry goods and mining supply stores and the most successful was Sam Hill Hardware Company. The original building is on Whiskey Row at 156c S Montezuma and is home to Prescott Western Heritage Foundation Museum where it can be toured at no charge.

The Sam Hill Warehouse is a unique cultural and historic treasure; revealing the importance of commercial activity in Prescott's history. It's one of the few remaining large commercial buildings of its era that survives in it's original, beautiful design. 3 freight entrances provided access to the warehouse. The two on the south wall have sliding door panels which are still functional; trains stopped just outside these southern doors and supplies were transferred into the warehouse.

To the immediate southeast of the warehouse is the orginal Santa Fe railroad trestle bridge which spans Granite Creek. Both structures are on the national historic register. The train track crossed over the bridge and proceeded east of the Hilton Garden Inn, across Montezuma Street, to the Prescott Train Depot station (currently home to Realty One Group).

This is a wonderful venue in which to make your own history.

Chef Alex Rivera
Food and Beverage Director and Executive Chef

Chef Rivera is the culinary engery and genius behind the Event Center at Sam Hill Warehouse's catering program. He’s directed restaurants from the smallest to the very prestigious and is skilled in all cuisines.

Alex is a great culinary talent and has a mentoring leadership style. Chef Alex Rivera says, “I’m excited to lead the Triple Creek Kitchen and Spirits restaurant and the Sam Hill Warehouse catering operations and I'm taking them to the next level.

I’m passionate about food and it’s a pleasure to be able to make people happy with good food, good service and good memories.”

Alex’s culinary journey began in Puerto Rico at age 11 when he started cooking with his grandmother and mother and it’s from his family he learned the values that make him successful—treating everyone with respect and love. Chef Alex says, “At work, our team is a family and we have to take care of each other. I treat employees the way I want to be treated and I share my enthusiasm and desire to succeed.”

Chef Alex began his studies at the Hotel School of San Juan and appreciates his family for supporting his dreams. Later, at the Florida Culinary Institute, he added confectionary and international cuisine. His professional career includes the prestigious Omni Homestead in Hot Springs, Virginia and being on the opening team for Desert Diamond Casino’s Glendale facility.

As Executive Chef for two Arizona IHG hotels, his restaurant was the highest producing Burger Theory in the nation and he was responsible for catering in combined banquet facilities exceeding 20,000 sq feet.

His most recent prior experience was with Upward Projects—which operates the popular Postino’s and Windsor Restaurants.

Chef Alex is thankful to his wife, Alma, and daughters, Maya and Thalia, for their unconditional love and support. There’s a lot of culinary talent in the family--Alma is an accomplished Chef in her own right and works as Banquet Manager at the Sam Hill Warehouse.

Alma’s mother, Guadalupe, prepares traditional family recipes in their kitchen. Alex and Alma enjoy having the opportunity to pass their values and traditions to their own children.

In her youth, Marci was a competitive gymnast for Prescott High School and the YMCA--she won the state girls all-around title several times. Later, she earned an appointment to the United States Air Force Academy from Senator Dennis DeConncini; becoming a member of the academy's women's gymnastic team and winning 2 NCAA national gymnastics titles. She graduated and received a regular commission as an AF officer where she learned about forming and leading high-functioning teams.

After serving her country, Marci started a career in hospitality and the lessons she learned in sports and the military have proven useful in helping her teams succeed. She enjoys mentoring team members in their careers.
