Lai and Gustavo met in 2003 when they both worked at Blue Smoke restaurant in New York City. She was a pastry cook while he was the head bartender. They fell in love, married in 2005 and have a teenaged son. After a couple of years and their son was born, Lai left the restaurant world but kept baking for friends and family. Gustavo stayed in the hospitality industry but was always thinking of ways to start his own business. After much thought, they decided to merge their love of food with their experience in hospitality to create The Brownie Bar in 2016. Together they are committed to providing their clients a delicious and memorable experience by producing the best quality desserts they can make.
