A Story Rooted in Des Moines

Surety Hotel is housed in the city’s historic Midland Building, also known as the Southern Surety Building—one of the first skyscrapers to define the Des Moines skyline. Built in the Beaux-Arts architectural style, the building was designed to make a statement, and more than a century later, its character remains at the heart of the hotel.

Once home to the Southern Surety Company, the building’s history has been thoughtfully woven into its modern hospitality experience. Original-inspired details and purposeful design elements—including signature green tile, green exit signs, and copper accents—pay homage to the building’s past while creating a setting that feels distinctly Surety today.

Located in the heart of downtown Des Moines, Surety places you and your guests among the city’s iconic landmarks, including the Polk County Courthouse and many of the city’s favorite destinations.

Whether you envision an intimate gathering or a grand celebration, Surety offers three distinctive event spaces: the Surety Ballroom, Solarium, and Midland Room, with capacities ranging from 40 to 150 guests.

Throughout each space, you’ll find distinctive artwork, exposed brick, rich tones, and thoughtful architectural details that create an atmosphere that is both sophisticated and inviting.

And when the celebration continues beyond the ballroom, your guests can stay together under one roof with 137 guest rooms, making it easy to turn your wedding day into an entire weekend experience.
