Most of us look for good quality photographers to capture some of life's most precious moments. The pictures they capture tell a story and allow us to reflect on these sweet memories. The first tip I have for all of you, is to not choose a photographer if they don't ask about your story. If you're getting married, they should ask about the story between you and your fiancé. If you're asking about a newborn session, they should ask about the gender or name choices and what color scheme you have for the nursery. You might be thinking that this isn't important at all but there is a point to this. You see, if they aren't asking any questions, it's because they simply do not care; you're just another paycheck. Photographers should be passionate about what they're capturing and that requires them to truly get into the story. I was attracted to this business because of the photos I had seen online and because of their reasonable price, but please don't let this fool you. These ladies don't care about your story, just like they didn't care about mine. I had to suddenly change the date of my wedding because my father was diagnosed with stage 4 stomach cancer and he was dying. There was no way I was going to let my father miss my special day. So I contacted these ladies to see if the day was okay, and I emphasized that I would understand if it was not because it ended up being a holiday weekend. They first questioned me as to why I could not simply choose another date, then told me that only one photographer would be able to capture the wedding (this business is two photographers that do weddings together), and then proceeded to tell me that I could not get my deposit back if I cancelled with them. Ya know, I'm really a reasonable person. I understand the whole reason for deposits and what not, but we're talking about someone's life here. The point is, they don't care. They are not sincere or genuine. Please take the time to find someone who cares about your story.
