About

Shades of Teal Creative Co is an innovative event rental, planning, & design company based in Vassar, MI. This company combines a small ceremony/reception space for up to 50 people and wedding planning at venues all around MI & beyond. They specialize in fully planned, beautifully styled Pop Up Weddings-since before they were trendy! Serving a number of purposes, their goal with this space is to help bring your dream day to life. Give your celebration a modern twist with the help of this forward-thinking venue’s intrepid team.

Sarah, the owner and creative producer of Shades of Teal Creative Co, began this venture in 2017. Initially conceived as a vintage furniture rental service, her dream for the business soon grew into something far more expansive. Sarah hoped to create a brick-and-mortar space where she could house her collection of retro rentals. She also envisioned couples using this space to host their own special ceremonies, making good use of her extensive catalog. This vision became a reality in 2019, broadening the horizon for the creative opportunities Sarah could pursue with her clients. In 2023, Ashley joined forces with Sarah to include Day Of Coordination with all events!

One of the venue’s primary functions is to host pop-up weddings, an ingenious idea that Sarah is truly passionate about. With this refreshing twist on your traditional ceremony, couples are invited to pick a date, a theme and Sarah and her staff will take care of the rest. Using their range of decor, they will beautify the downtown space, perfectly merging the minimalist industrialism of the building with carefully curated vintage style. Then, all that’s required of the couple is to show up with their chosen officiant, two of their loved ones and prepare to be wed. The duration of your average service is condensed down to an easy 90-minutes, relieving you of the stress of ceremony coordination. A photography session following your event is included in the basic wedding package, as are accouterments like bouquets and boutonnieres. These accessories are curated by this venue’s thoughtful staff. Along with this, you will be provided with a sweetheart cake as well as donuts and fruit for you and your guests to share. Further upgrades include seating for extra guests to attend the event, get-ready-rooms at the property and videography coverage of the romantic service. If you’d like to keep the party going in this stylish location, the space is available to rent out for reception parties.

Flexible and BOHO!

I booked my wedding date via VIRTUAL TOUR!!! How amazing is that! During this Covid-19 outbreak I was able to tour the venue and leave a deposit securing my date all in the comfort of my won home. This venue is BEATIFUL and totally boho! Great value if you are looking for an intimate wedding.

Wedding of my dreams

My fiance and I were engaged for years and really wanted to have a small simple affordable wedding . It's so stressful to plan that ( let's be real) . While scrolling through FB one day I saw a listing for POP UP WEDDINGS . It sounded just what I was looking for for the right price ! My fiance thought it was too good to be true ! It was beautiful , everything I could of asked for in my dream wedding and so much more . We got married in the forest summer 2019 . I've gotten so many compliments from my guests saying our wedding was one of the most beautiful weddings ever . That's all thanks to Shades of teal! If your looking for stress free wedding planning that's so so affordable. Go with Shades of teal ! Sarah does such beautiful work you will not be disappointed!

AWFUL - Don't waste your money

When I first went to check the venue out one of the questions I asked was if I could come the day before to ensure I liked the decorations – Sarah told me no, and that she would send photos. A few weeks prior to the wedding she messaged me inspiration ideas she found on Pinterest for the décor. I liked them, as they were what I had in mind from when we initially met in person. Fast forward to 4 days before the wedding when she messaged me a photo of the décor. There was not ONE flower anywhere on the chairs, aisle, or arch. It was all ‘wintery greenery’ which she stated was the décor option I chose. I did choose a winter theme, however even in all of the inspirations she initially sent me, had flowers intertwined with the greenery. I sent her photos back of what I was thinking it was going to look similar to and she told me she would need to charge me an additional $200 for the time that has already gone into the decorating, and that she would have to call someone in to help. I felt that this was SO wrong. You can’t expect every customer to like your creations 100% of the time, and you still had FOUR days left to decorate. And there wasn’t even that much decorations to have even taken more than 2 hours. Sarah then went on to play the he said she said game, which really upset me further. You are in a business to make your paying customers happy, not to make us feel bad for not liking your initial design, and then to charge us more after I had already paid for the entire venue 100% in full. No where in the contract or in person discussion did she mention the potential additional charges for changing up the decorations. Within 45 minutes of emailing back and forth, we decided to call her to make this quicker and she informed us she had already taken down all of the decorations and started putting up the new ones. That really confused me as she initially told me it took so much time going into it and she’d have to call someone else in to help, yet the photos she sent us 45 minutes later, were not to far off from what the décor looked like come wedding day. So right there told me, she was trying to scam us out of another $200. Come the day of the wedding, I ensured to compliment the changes she made as soon as I walked into the building, because the changes were truly beautiful and I did not want her to treat me any way after the days prior… She told me to head upstairs to get dressed and she would be up within 10 minutes of the ceremony starting to walk me through the rest. She NEVER came upstairs. Instead, someone else came up and said “were ready, you can come down now” at this point, no one gave me my bouquet, or anything. I had to ask this random lady where it was. Then, I get to the bottom of the stairs and Sarah is just standing there watching me and my dad try to fit in the tiny corner adjusting my dress so I can walk down the aisle. She didn’t help one bit, although told me when I initially met her weeks before that she will be the on-site wedding coordinator and will be there to assist all day. My dad and I get it adjusted and I walk down the aisle to which the Officiant did not announce anyone to stand for the bride. My mom had to announce it. I get to the alter, and the Officiant did not ask anyone to please be seated. Literally, everyone sat and then stood back up when they noticed others weren’t sitting. I feel this really constricted the photographer from getting photos. After the ceremony we did the marriage certificate. Upon filling it out, she took both copies and the application for additional copies with her and never said a word. I now have to go downtown again and fill out the application and pay for additional copies because she took everything from me. The rest of the reception was just a joke. She stayed in the back corner and felt like she was hiding and we were left clueless on what to do next. The photographer even mentioned being confused and ended up assisting in cutting our cake. At this point, I was so upset I just wanted to leave. I chose to spend the rest of our time taking photos with our guests so we could leave. Upon packing up and leaving – one of my bridesmaids asked if we could take the left over donuts, to which Sarah said no. I don’t see why? We paid for them. Same with the bouquets, we were not allowed to take those either. I am unsure what $3,600.00 paid for in 90 minutes after the service we received. The photographer was very nice, and had great turn around time for our photos. The only thing I would say about that, is I felt I was directing her who was next to take photos with. At one point she told me, I’m not sure who is who so? All I could think about is, no photographer knows anyone’s extended family when taking photos? Typically you just call out “grandparents, siblings, bridal party, etc.” I felt I had to this for her which added to the stress of the entire day there. Also, I’m not even sure how she is allowed to operate a business in this building as it is clearly not up to code. Electrical wire was hanging down from the ceiling, no covers on outlets, etc. I didn’t initially notice this when I went there to meet her as I was taken away by the beautiful decor of the venue, however my husband was completely shocked when he showed up on our wedding day to see all of that. Also, something in the bathroom – he said the window was eye level and as your going to bathroom you can see and talk to people on the other side of the wall? Spend your money elsewhere!
