Sarah Rittenour is a professional wedding photographer in Santa Cruz, California. Her unique stylistic approach, using techniques from both the fashion and photojournalism industries, combines perfectly to create a stellar wedding album.
Hello! I'm Sarah.
I imagine you're here because you need a photographer. And if I'm lucky, you're looking for someone who can join you on an adventure. Whether that be a big ol' wedding party, a small intimate elopement, a coastal drive, or a forest hike, I just want to capture all the amazing fun you and your partner have.
I've never been much for tradition, so you can imagine weddings were never really my "thing" when I first picked up a camera. People always told me never to photograph weddings and I didn't second guess that opinion.
Even in terms of photography, I've always admired the unconventional. Photographers like Richard Avedon, Annie Leibovitz, and David LaChapelle drew me in because they did something just a little odd and different. They're also amazing storytellers in their own unique ways. The storytelling aspect of photography is actually what lead me into shooting weddings.
While I still wouldn't call myself a "wedding person," I have discovered that the wedding industry has been evolving away from the old cookie-cutter format and that is what keeps me doing what I do. My favorite weddings are the ones where the couple's personalities show throughout the day rather than getting lost in all the things they "have" to do. I love being part of a day filled with so much love and excitement and what I aim to do is find you in all of it. Because weddings aren't about fitting into a mold anymore - they're about you getting to celebrate your love.
So, if you have an epic adventure you'd like me to document, send me a message. I'd love to see what we can do together!
I'd call it a weird fusion of fashion and documentary style photography, with just a little bit of quirk.I believe that photography is just as much about the experience as it is about the images themselves. If you don't enjoy yourself on a shoot or on your wedding day, you won't look back at your photos and feel that happy fluttering in your stomach. It will almost feel fake. That's not what I want and that's not what you want, so my goal is to make sure that when you're looking at your photos 10 years from now, you're thinking, "that was such an amazing day."

We chose Sarah to photograph our elopement in Big Sur. We contacted tons of photographers, but Sarah was the only one who was interested in hearing our story and what we were really looking for in our photos. This made all the difference in the world because our pictures turned out beyond perfect and she captured the way we look at each other so incredibly, which was extremely important to us. She recommended the time of our ceremony so we could get the perfect lighting. I would absolutely recommend Sarah to ANYONE who would like high-quality photos that don't just look pretty but also capture the love between two people and the emotions that you experience on your wedding day.Sent on 08/07/2018

Sarah is awesome!
I'm so glad I chose Sarah Rittenour Photography. Sarah was efficient and didn't add any unnecessary wedding-day pressure. She captured all of the pictures I wanted and then some; this was probably due to her being on site for about 10-12 hours. Also, as someone who doesn't like being in front of the camera, having Sarah as our photographer made it really easy!Sent on 11/03/2018
