We live in Texas and were having our wedding on the Jersey Shore. We had to hire a rabbi by telephone and did we luck out. Rabbi Susman was amazing to work with and made our ceremony so special. We are a same-sex, interfaith couple (Jewish and Methodist) and he made both sides of our families feel included. Our families and guests were complimenting him all day and weekend long.

Rabbi Brooks R. Susman was the perfect officiant for our ceremony. Myself being Catholic and my wife being Jewish, he did everything in his power to make everyone from both sides feel welcomed, comfortable and involved. He made such a beautiful ceremony from beginning to end and making the whole thing entirely based around us and our lives in every possible detail that he could. He took the time to even meet with us a few times before our big day so that he could really get to know us and who we are so that every single thing he said was his true thoughts on us as a couple. Would definitely recommend him for future NJ weddings. Friends and relatives from both sides were complimenting us afterwards on how great he was!

Was a family rabbi, wonderful leading up, wedding was a different story. We offered to reserve him a hotel room, even though our wedding was in NJ. Was very thankful. The morning before our wedding he emailed me saying he wasn't able to stay for the reception (paid $220 for his plate), I said no problem but PLEASE stay to bless the challah with my grandfather. He said "Absolutely". Told me in the elevator going up to my suite to sign the Katuba that I needed to take this day more seriously. Then told me my signature on Katuba wasn't "real" because it only had 5 letters. Said the music we were playing in the suite with our family was the worst music he's ever heard in his life. After I walked down the aisle he yelled at us to get people to stop sipping on the signature cocktails that were passed out. He also told us to get our 3 young nephews out of the room even though they were in the bridal party. He made me repeat a line in my vow. Completely stopped the ceremony & made me change a line. Skipped the 7 blessings with our mothers, which was discussed about 10 times with him. But thats not even the worse part. During our ceremony, after our really personal heartfelt vows he stated "The most important thing you have not yet said is that you actually like each other" he said that AFTER I stated that my husband was my absolute favorite person & my husband said that I was the most caring loving person he's ever met. He also said to me during the ceremony, verbatim (I know this because I have the footage) "You are so wonderful because of him. You become wonderful because of who you are because you are with him & for him & because of him" .. he turns to my husband and states "& you're just wonderful because you're just you! & you smile & wait because she is so important in your life" Not very nice for me.. THEN HE LEFT BEFORE HE CUT THE CHALLAH! No warning just left. We announced him to come up to bless it. So awkward!!! Emailed after to see what happened, no response!!
