I found that local couples and visitors were planning their weddings, in need of a marriage license, and were looking for an alternative to going to the County Recorder's Office. In 2014 I began issuing confidential marriage licenses, and followed that up in 2017 by becoming an officiant and performing marriage ceremonies. I enjoy working with couples to issue confidential marriage licenses and/or perform marriage ceremonies, commitment ceremonies, and vow renewals.

During COVID it has been especially difficult for couples to obtain a marriage license to get married. Each county has different guidelines. I have heard that some neighboring counties still have waiting periods of five weeks or more. You can use a marriage license you receive in Monterey County anywhere in the State of California to get married. After you are married the marriage license will be returned to Monterey County for recording. The marriage records will be kept in Monterey County, even if you get married in another county.

I issue Confidential Marriage Licenses. The records are kept as confidential in the County and outside of a court order, the records are not available to anyone except the couple. To receive a confidential marriage license the couple has to be living together at the time they come in front of me. There is no requirement for a witness or a blood test. I am authorized by the county to issue confidential marriage licenses. I cannot issue regular marriage licenses. The only place you can get a regular marriage license in Monterey County is at the Monterey County Recorder's Office.
