The GPYC exceeded all expectations. Originally we were planning a wedding on a private estate. I quickly learned that pricing out cost of rental forks and linens and porta-johns was not for me. We were blessed that the GPYC had an opening on our desired weekend. Mariann DenBaas was my point of contact person throughout the entire 1.5 year engagement when we booked the club. She was responsive, attentive, thoughtful and instilled me with lots of confidence. This was the right route for us. The GPYC is a stunning venue nestled in Grosse Pointe right along the water. I fell in love with the ballroom and its high ceilings and beautiful windows. The planning process felt organized, and after our few meetings with Mariann and the tasting, we were all blown away. They took care of everything, and I had no worries on our wedding day that everything would go off perfectly. They helped create a perfect timeline, cocktails were elegant, service was superb. My husband and I couldn't have felt more taken care of. They offered to chill our special bottle of champagne after it had been sitting on the table for a few minutes, and were constantly asking if there was anything we or our party needed. There is a beautiful room for all your vendors to eat in and "set up camp" in right off the main ballroom. The bathrooms, facilities, etc are all perfect. We were not able to have our cocktail outside due to weather (but it would have been stunning!) instead they accommodated us inside in a beautiful room right off the ballroom.
It was a perfect day, makes for stunning photos, care free service for guests (including valet), beautiful cocktail room (the venetian!).. thank you GPYC and Mariann for a unforgettable day for both myself and my husband. Truly service that goes above and beyond.

Venue setting was absolutely beautiful. GPYC was extremely friendly, flexible and accommodating throughout the entire wedding planning process. Food and service was impeccable. A perfect day!

I was so pleased with GPYC. I had the best experience starting from the moment I called to inquire if my date was open. Mariann Denbass is truly incredible. She is the events coordinator at the Yacht Club, and I don't think I could've done my wedding without her. She gave so much advice throughout the process. She's truly an expert at what she does. I was planning from California and she was constantly in contact with me over email. I had a Persian ceremony and even though she had never seen one before, she learned exactly how it is supposed to run and the day of the wedding was perfection. Actually, everything was perfection from the service to the food to the friendliness of the staff and to the whole ambience of the Yacht Club. We had such a lovely and memorable experience!!

My husband and I had a great wedding day, but were very disappointed in the club. Responsiveness with the coordinator ahead of time wasn't great, and there were several unnecessary miscommunications along the way. On the day of there was another coordinator (nobody was sure who she was) who was rude and unprofessional. She asked my sister and matron-of-honor if she "really planned on carrying her baby" with her for the bridal entrance. As another bridesmaid was leaving the bathroom she also asked her if she realized she was wearing flip-flops (She wasn't. I hate heels and all my bridesmaids were in flat sandals). When my bridesmaid said she indeed realized what shoes she was wearing, the coordinator told her "I'm surprised you would do that on purpose." Also, towards the end of dinner, two groomsmen were a bit slower finishing their meals. She stood over them and said "we need to clear the plates." We were surprised- we spent many months planning and spent a lot of money for a fun and relaxed evening and did not expect anyone to be rushed through dinner. The final mistake happened towards the end of the night. We'd asked for pretzels and other snacks to be put out and the coordinator promised it would be done. However, the snacks were never put out and there was never an explanation. I did not like that we had to check the invoice after the wedding to make sure we weren't charged for something they never did. The other staff were extremely professional and friendly. I would still recommend the venue, but would warn anyone to be careful and not trust the coordinators ahead of time.
