amateur photography at a professional price
If you want amateur photography at a professional price, you've come to the right place. I'm all for having hobbies, just don't promote yourself as a professional, if you are not.
I booked Gregg for my proposal to my now fiance.
He was very friendly and thorough leading up to the shoot.
Then I was reminded over and over again about their contract.
Initially, we set this up to cost $550 for an hour and a half shoot. After overstaying his welcome and me explaining that we were good and didn't need any more pictures, decided to stay longer, an additional half-hour. After waiting a full 2 weeks to receive our photos, with no teasers or anything as other photographers might do, I was astounded when I was asked to pay him an additional $500 on top of what we agreed. I wanted to see the pictures and send them to our friends and family and trusted him so I decided to pay him and not push back on it.
We were very disappointed with the work. It was very apparent that everything had just been run through a standard filter for all of the shots. The angles, lighting, and fill flash were not good. There was very little editing, which didn't touch up any flyaways, wrinkles, or forehead shines and there was very little creativity. Additionally, the photos chosen weren't very flattering of either of us. And shots that we know were taken weren't provided, like a shot of her and her dad.
Our families and I are not professional photographers but knew these didn't look great. I reached out to Gregg expressing this and that if he could either revisit these and fix them or send us the raw photos, I could edit them myself.
After a few days, he emailed me back, stating he was talking to his "constituents and associations he's a part of to check the professionalism of his work." He stated they thought the work was "technically sound", who are these associations?? My friends that are professional photographers literally laughed at this notion. He decided to lean on his contract heavily, expressing they never release raw files, enhancements and retouches are additional costs, he supplied us with enough images, etc. I again asked for raw files or retouches and never received a response back.
In the end, we used images caught on our families' iPhones for our save the dates, which is really upsetting that they took the best pictures and are untrained in this area without professional equipment. My friends that run their own wedding photography business for many years, could not believe what I paid for the work that was provided. They literally laughed at his responses and couldn't believe someone would lean on a contract so heavily, suggesting that this must be a common occurrence for him.
I take this as a lesson, to really look through my wedding photographer's portfolio, reviews, and contract in more depth. And hope that this saves someone from the disappointment that we experienced.
I wish I didn't have to leave this review, but I wish someone had done it before me so I could've worked with a different photographer.
