About

For centuries bagpipes have been played for weddings not only in Scotland and Ireland but many European countries as well. Elegant and stately for church processionals, recessionals, or simply for the celebration of the occasion, the instrument heralds the marriage with music that speaks to heritage and tradition as few other instruments can.

Some of the more conventional moments for bagpipe music during a wedding ceremony are:

Prelude
Processional(s)
Meditation(s)
Recessional
Postlude

Upon request, I would be glad to send prospective clients a free copy of my CD, "Bagpipe Music for Weddings", with tunes organized by these wedding "moments".

Here are some ideas for bagpipe music at wedding receptions:

  • Playing outside the hall as the guests arrive.
  • Piping the bridal party to their seats as they arrive at the hall.
  • Playing during the receiving line.
  • Playing small pipes while strolling among tables of guests
  • Playing during the cocktail hour
  • Playing for 10-15 minutes during an intermission in the band's or DJ's music.

On my CD you can listen to the tunes and pick those you would like to hear during particular moments of your wedding ceremony or reception. Alternately, I would be glad to play any requests, not on my CD.

I also play several types of quieter small pipes and can offer a wide range of versatility of tone and volume to accommodate smaller performance spaces.

George was a joy to work with in planning my wedding- and his beautiful piping made my ceremony extra special! I wasn't entirely sure what I wanted in terms of selecting music from his repertoire, but upon inquiring about his services- he immediately sent a cd which was was SO helpful in making my selections. He was extremely responsive to my emails throughout the planning process and was such a good sport about sticking around to pose for some pictures with my husband following the ceremony. What a wonderful way to pay tribute to my heritage! Thank you, George- you were a pleasure to work with!

George played the pipes outside of Heinz Chapel as our guests arrived and then he walked in front of me & my dad down the aisle. Having him go before us was an amazing moment. The pipes echoed off of the church walls and sounded amazing! I immediately teared up when he started playing, it was a wonderful moment! George also played a tune while we lit our unity candle and then he lead me and my husband down the aisle for the recessional. That also was a dramatic and poignant moment. George continued to play outside the church as guests exited to wait to blow bubbles on us. He stayed after the ceremony to get pictures with us and talked to many of our guests.

George was wonderful to work with. He is very respected at Heinz and they didn't require him to attend rehearsal because they know and trust him well. George was very laid back as I emailed him about timing of walking down the aisle and song selection. He was very easy to work with and very nice.

Along with the beauty of the Chapel, having George play the pipes made my wedding ceremony memorable and amazing. Our guests were blown away by the surprise of the piping. George sounded amazing and looked very regale in his attire!
We loved working with him!

I will never forget hearing the sounds of the bagpipes just moments before my daughter's wedding. I peeked out the doors of Heinz Memorial Chapel and there stood George, clad in his tartan, playing the bagpipes as he welcomed guests to the wedding.

George is an incredible bagpiper! The guests all raved at his talent. It had always been my daughter's dream to have a bagpiper precede her and her Father down the aisle on her wedding day - and George made that dream come true.

George was always wonderful in getting in contact with us and was also very affordable. I highly recommend him. http://www.pittsburghpiper.com/
