Stay Far Away!
Let's start off this review with a direct quote typed out from the owners, portraying their lack of professionalism:
"I'm going to pass on reading the novel you just sent over and I will pass on further communication. You have every right to attempt to post a review even if it is dishonest at best. I have every right to challenge that review based on your offered bribe. In the end, the little secret is that even if your review sits online forever, you know what changes...nothing! The only person who values your opinion is you. Our business will go on as normal and you will go on thinking you actually achieved something. Have fun!"
Prior this message, they also accused us of attempting to blackmail them & stating that it's illegal for us to post a review for their product & services since we asked for a refund, and they will make every attempt to have our reviews removed once posted.
We ordered our wedding cake from them but had to cancel our wedding due to covid. Prior to cancelling, we had other events on which we ordered two additional cakes from.
• Facts:
- We made a non-refundable deposit for a wedding cake.
- We now canceled our wedding due to Covid, and simply asked if they would be willing to refund the deposit.
- They denied (which is not only expected but also understandable), and we took the moment to provide feedback for 2x cakes we purchased that tasted nothing like the samples.
• Taste of Samples (Cupcakes) - 5/5
These were absolutely amazing. We met a local spot in town, and they brought 6x cupcake samples free of charge. They were so good that it was hard to decide which 2 flavors we wanted to pick, but we immediately booked them that night for our wedding cake.
• Taste of Actual Cake - 1/5
- Cake #1 - Major let down. We ordered a mocha cake for a birthday. The density & taste was that of biting into a chocolate brick. We ended up throwing it away, and now had concerns for our wedding cake.
- Cake #2 - In order to ensure a natural process and a better representation of what we should expect with our wedding cake, we did not give them a heads up with our dissatisfaction with the 1st cake. We purchased a strawberry cake and the best way to describe it is mediocre at best - nowhere close what we sampled.
• Professionalism - 0/5
Let’s be honest, it's easy to have good customer service until witnessing how they handle various situations. After explaining our dissatisfaction, accusing a paying customer of illegal activities, blackmail, and bribery for informing them you will be posting a review of your experience puts their professionalism at a flat out 0. The various emails back & forth were very ill mannered and low class.
• Reliability - 2/5
The good - They had availability for our original wedding date, and also allowed us to move the date 1 year out due to COVID-19 without a penalty.
The bad - Just like many other customers complaining about late deliveries, for cake #2 they were supposed to meet us at 2pm to deliver the cake, but informed us his wife was running late delivering other cakes. They arrived at 4pm. Luckily this didn't impact our schedule for the event that day, but this was another red-flag.
• Affordability - 4/5
They offered the best prices that we could find for a wedding cake. The truth here is you get what you pay for. The smaller cakes did cost more than grocery market cakes, which are much larger & significantly better tasting.
• Overall - 1/5
Regardless of how affordable they were, or how good the cupcakes were, I cannot put my trust in a company that treats their clients like trash after providing poor products. Their samples provided expectations, and they could not be met. I highly advise brides & grooms to stay away from Dream Sweets Baking Company. You really do get what you pay for, and this was a prime example.
