I think a wedding photographer's real job is to be the one vendor you never have to think about.

You'll think about the caterer. Whether the shuttle is running late. Whether your uncle found the ceremony site. You should not, at any point, be thinking about where I am or what I need from you. That's the whole standard I work to.

I came to weddings through art before I came to them through cameras; eight-plus years of formal training in digital art and photography, learning composition, light, and color as disciplines. Practically, that means I'm not hunting for a shot on your wedding day. I already know what I'm looking for, so I can spend the day watching you instead of solving problems.

I'm also going to notice the things you spent months on and quietly assumed nobody would catch. The detail work. The stuff that made your day yours and not a template. Those get photographed too.

And before any of that: I want to actually know you. A real conversation, not an intake form. The difference between a photo where someone is being photographed and a photo where someone forgot to care is entirely a matter of whether they trust the person holding the camera. I'd rather earn that in advance than hope for it on the day.
