The historic 1891 Chapel was originally the Boys Training School, meant for the spiritual rehabilitation of young boys affected by poverty and crime. It was Rhode Island’s first attempt at statewide social institutions, and it created a safe haven that eliminated the deviant behavior formed from a poor environment. It is now home to Chapel Grille’s Cathedral Bar, where the infirmary wing has turned into the main dining room after being destroyed in a fire in the 1970s.
