Let's start with the good:
The value is okay. The food was delicious and the portions were large. All of our guests were full & the meals were served fresh.
Now for the bad:
My husband and I booked our venue over a year in advance. From the day after we booked until the day of our wedding, Stewart Glass (the man who runs Brae Loch Banquets & Independence Grove) was nothing but insulting, rude, inconsiderate, unorganized & stress-inducing.
Stewart would make very rude comments any time I was actually able to get a hold of him. He misinformed (or lied, we aren't sure) to us on several occasions. One MAJOR example of this is the supposed "Bridal Suite" included in the package. When we first met at Brae Loch in March 2011, we were told a basement area was in the process of being renovated & would be finished well before our wedding. In January of 2012, I tried to schedule a meeting at OUR venue to see the renovations & go over some of the details. He REFUSED to meet with me at our venue, but said if I wanted to meet with him, I’d have to drive to the Independence Grove location – now I know why. When we were FINALLY able to meet at Brae Loch (2 weeks before our wedding), NOTHING had been renovated. The “Bridal Suite” is a dirty, non air-conditioned, ugly, former basement locker room. The area where the guys were getting ready was even worse. When my husband asked one of the employees to turn on the A/C, the guy laughed & said it didn’t work & the room hadn’t been used for YEARS.
We could not get in touch with Stewart. I had several questions and sent him the same email every day for almost 2 months before the wedding. There was a whole mess of a situation & long story short, someone else had to take over our wedding. She had just started working for the venue and did not really know what she was talking about. She continued the trend of rudeness and inconsistency on SEVERAL occasions. We have many, many more complaints about this vendor too.
Everything was a struggle & unnecessarily stressful. Do NOT use either one of these venues. They sound awesome & the end result was pretty nice, but it’s NOT worth it.
We're all about trust. Our community relies on honest reviews to help you make those big decisions with ease.
