Protect yourself, get everything in writing
Hired BDS/Boris to cater my wedding. Five days in advance, I received a call from Boris that because of a potential for heavy rain, I would be required to pay for two additional hours of service and provided an open ended credit card authorization form, despite an already agreed upon price for his services. I regret not requesting this in writing and then terminating his services.
We needed to proceed with the wedding due to family health issues. Our venue cancelled on us less than 48 hours prior to the event and Boris was having trouble staffing the event as we searched for another location. Given the circumstances, Boris agreed over a phone call to provide us with receipts for whatever he had purchased for the wedding and would refund the balance of what we had already paid.
We used different vendors in the area and our wedding went perfectly, on our originally scheduled date. Now, after two weeks of dodging emails and phone calls, Boris is denying ever demanding more money less than a week out because of weather and denying agreeing to provide receipts and a refund of the balance. He pocketed my nearly $4,000 and cutting off communication. My signed contract with Boris has no statement of non-refundable deposits. Boris claims that his no-refund policy was stated to us when we talked on the phone but ironically and conveniently forgets his demands for additional money above the contracted price and his agreement to provide receipts for his purchases related to our wedding.
