Abbate is the bakery that my reception hall uses for cakes (the cake was included in our package). I called & scheduled a cake tasting and was so happy with the fillings & cakes to chose from. We dealt with a woman, whom I believe was the owner, and she was very accomodating. I brought a sample of my girls dress color with me & asked if she could match the ribbon on the cake to the color of the dresses & she said yes. I also asked about decorating the second layer of cake with a special symbol - that went along with the theme of our wedding. She had me draw the symbol & said, yes, that it was no problem. The unfortunate thing is that she was leaving to go back to Italy for a while & she was going to make sure the notes were clear for her staff to make the cake correctly. Unfortunately it was not decorated correctly at all. It was an all white cake & the one tier had the same decorations as the other two. I was very upset about this because this is one thing my husband did not want - an all white cake. Needless to say, the reception hall offered me a 6' fake cake to use (that we saw the day before when dropping our stuff off & oogled this cake). I had no idea it was a fake cake until they offered me the use of it. We ended up using the fake cake & they cut our cake up to serve it in the kitchen. The cake was not the same on every layer as we wanted - there seemed to be 2 options, the way we wanted it & the other was a yellow cake with chocolate moose filling. Both were delicous - very moist & the fillings were delicous. The bakery bakes an incredible cake. I don't blame the owner at all, since I know she went away & this was the staff missing the notes on the paper. I would definately recommend this bakery to anyone - just make sure the owner is not going away when you need your cake.
Our cake was supposed to be red velvet & yellow cake and the fillings were hazelnut, canoli & chocolate moose. Every tier was to be the same. I took a picture of the inside & outside of the cake & plan on stopping by the bakery to make them aware of what had occured. Again, even with this mistake, the cake was delicous & not stale like a lot of wedding cakes we have eaten.
