Worried about passing out in dress?

Miss S., on July 22, 2014 at 8:30 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 13

Today I had my second to last fitting. The dress definitely fits sooooooo much better (it was too tight before) but it is obviously still tight, as it is a fit and flare/mermaid dress. We also had a very hot day today so the store was hot, but as she was pinning my dress, I started to get dizzy. Now I am worried that the day of the wedding with possible heat, being pregnant, wearing a tight dress, and of course being anxious that I will pass out.

Is anybody else worried? If yes, what precautions are you taking? I will of course make sure I eat well and stay hydrated but other than that….. I might talk to my midwife next week to see if she has an idea to avoid getting dizzy. Not trying to hurt the baby.

Weird, I am not pregnant but during my first fitting I got REALLY HOT! Like hot flash hot. From my head to my toes I broke out in a sweat and turned a fan on me. My alterations lady was so scared I was going to pass out but I did not eat that much that day. I can't imagine how hot I will be the day of the wedding so I am going to try to take as much out as I possibly can so my dress can be as light as possible! Oh and drink water too! GOOD LUCK!!

Leslie, my seamstress turned the fan on for me too, which helped but I really had to focus on not passing out. lol. I can already see myself at the altar, asking for a chair because I am getting dizzy. Oh my….

Oh my goodness! hearing this kind of makes me feel better!! I had my first dress fitting on Thursday and I had the same experience. My co-workers think it was just a rush of it finally "being REAL" getting to me. I was in my dress for over an hour (they fussed with my bustle for some time. Trying to get it to lay just right.) I started to get really hot and I broke out in a bad sweat. I asked for a drink of water and sat down. When she came back she said I was really pale and she was going to get me out of the dress right away. My dress is not tight on me so I can't explain it at all. I think with all of the adrenaline and excitement on that day I shouldn't need to worry but it is a bit odd. I'll see how I do on the next fitting. Worst case, we can always sit in chairs instead of standing.

Maybe you could talk to your FH and establish a little signal, so that if you start feeling at all dizzy you cue him and he can hold onto you to keep you upright?

This happens to me all the time. I hate trying on clothes in the store. I get over heated really quickly. Even when I'm at my house and I take my shower, blow dry my hair, and then start getting my clothes on (especially when I'm getting dressed up for something) it just doesn't take much for me to get SUPER hot. It's so annoying, then of course nothing fits right, and you're miserable.

Bottom line: this may sound crazy, but have your venue CRANK that A/C. That's what we did, and that was our venues normal practice while the wedding party was getting ready. It helps A LOT. Staying calm, drinking water, and just being relaxed also really helps.

Another tip to keep cool: a fan under your table! hike that dress up and get a breeze on your legs!
