What color(s) go with burgundy?

When I got engaged and started meeting with vendors or just talking with friends, everyone asked about my "vision" and how I pictured my big day...and I was like..umm i have no idea. The only thing I ever thought about my big day was bridesmaid dresses in burgundy and a wedding in October. Apparently, you should have more than one color..what goes well with burgundy? I was straying towards gold because the ballroom has a lot of gold accents. Your honest opinions are greatly appreciated.

I am really glad I found this site. I was just wondering about the colors myself because I am having burgundy in our wedding. It seems you all have a lot of great ideal. My maid of horner wants a me to get her a dress that cost well over what my dress even cost. Is that wrong of me to tell her that I can't just do that?

My wedding colors are Burgundy, Gold & Ivory. I think it looks great. The challenge is to find the burgundy..... there are more maroon color stuff than burgundy.

So, my wedding colors are burgundy with champagne (yellow) and rose pink, and it's a summer wedding. My mom is looking for her mother of the bride dress now and she has no idea what color to get to match it. Colors like gold/silver is out of the question as she has found a dress that she likes, but it doesn't come in those colors. Since it's a summer wedding, she was thinking of a lighter color like in the yellows/creams area, but it just seems like it will wash her out. People told her to stay away from neighboring colors to burgundy (like berry and scarlet and cranberry) because they may just clash with the bridesmaid dresses. Any suggestions???? Here is what the dress she wants looks like, and what the bridesmaid dress in burgundy looks like:
