FYI: Postcard size magnets are regular letter postage

MrsBest2B, on November 20, 2015 at 10:46 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 3

I might just be stupid. I assumed if the "postcard" size magnet w/envelope was in fact "postcard" size that it would only need 35 cent postage, but that is incorrect. Because of the envelope it's considered a regular letter. Maybe others are smarter than me and knew that, but I was unpleasantly surprised.

I don't know why so many of my posts show up twice. Grrr.

Yes, if a postcard (magnet or not) is placed into an envelope, it is regular first-class postage. Watch that the weight doesn't go over 1 ounce, or it will cost even more.

I can't think of a response to this. I'm trying not to sound sarcastic, but yes. Anything in an envelope is at least $.49 to mail, and if they are those square cards they are even more. And if the weight is higher, again - more. Postcard isn't referring to the shape of the mail (since they are generally 4x6 which is a standard size of most regular cards that can be mailed as well) but the mailing method.
