Flower girl age

jirak4, on July 18, 2009 at 4:51 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 24

I was wondering if there is a general cut off age for flower girls? I have in my head that I heard 8 was the cut off and after that they need to be considered junior bridesmaids. . any tips ? is 10 too old ?

Do what ever you want. If you want a 10 year old flower girl than have a 10 year old flower girl. Its your day.

I see traditions as suggestions, not as hard and fast rules. Frankly, I've been a bit bored at weddings that adhere strictly to tradition. Everything is too predictable and cookie cutter. Do whatever you want to! Its your day Smiley smile

I think 10 is fine 10 is to young for a jr bridesmaid i feel so flower girl is perfect. But really its what ever makes you happy its hard believe me I am always worried what someone is going to say after i make a wedding decision but really if thats what you want do it. Plus like jessy said its ok for everything to not be traditional

My RB was 9 and it was fine. It was actually kind of nice because he was able to take direction well with how to walk down and during pictures. So 10 is fine especially if that what you want!

I am with you Amy. My flower girl will be 3 and my RB will be 2. Whats funny is my RB is jealous that the FG gets to throw the flower petals so he has been throwing the RB pillow and giggles. Its hilarious watching them practice.

I was concerned about this too, my son is going to be my ring bearer and he will be 4 by then. However, my flower girl is 11. Oh well. I say dont worry its your wedding, and its going to be beautiful.

Flower Girls usually range from infant (12 months) to 12 years old...Jr Bridesmaids range from 13 - 17 years old. Hope this helps.

On average the cut off tends to be about 6-8 but in the end if you want a certain girl to be your flower girl then let them be it. I was just a MOH in June and the flower girl was 9 and did awesome and it meant so so much to her. She was really funny telling everyone how she loved riding in limos and was even funnier drinking a sprite out of a champagne glass. It will mean more to an older flower girl than someone who is 3 or 4. So have who ever you want!

Exactly! If you have set your heart on any one particular girl, then irrespective of the age, make her your flower girl. I am sure you have picked the most wonderful flower girl dresses for her to choose from.

Glo: what if you had them all find dresses the same shade as your wedding colour (shades of blue or pink or whatever) so that they stand out from everyone else. I saw a picture some where of a note a girl sent her friends saying that she loved them lots, but they wouldn't be bridesmaids... that said she wanted to let everyone know how special they were so they should choose a dress in shades of pink.

Hopefully that helps, and if you want to you can still have them all come down the aisle or be seated specially.

There really isn't an age cut off for being a flower girl. We've made flower girl dresses for 12 year olds. The attire and responsibilities for flower girls are quite different from those of junior bridesmaids. Use this, rather than the age of the girls to make a decision. It can also be helpful to talk to the girls about what they will do at your wedding to help ensure that they are excited about their role. Congratulations.

My FG's- I'm having three, skipping the RB because it's all females under the age of...oh way too old to be a RB- and they're both recently 12. The third is my MOH's daughter, who turns one the 22nd of this month- same time we'll have been engaged for a year. The two older, my nieces, are going to pull her down the aisle in a wagon that is decorated.

My whole wedding is nontraditional though, but you're not alone on the "older than 8" tradition.
