I am having the hardest time figure this out so I am hoping someone can help me. The church we are getting married at is very small, literally 11 people attend the church. Well when we get married we are not paying the pastor, it goes to the church so my problem is with it being a small church and everything I am not sure about how much we should "donate" I was thinking like $75 or so but then my FH thinks more like $50.

Let me say this, your donation should be relative to your finances. I don't like telling someone how much they should pay in instances like that b/c it really does depend on your personal finances. If you are having a minimalistic wedding, low budget and $50 REALLY is all you can afford then so be it. But if you're spending thousands of dollars on your wedding then I think you should be able to do better by the church.

I agree with LadyLee Smiley smile But also bare in mind what it is costing them to open their church to you.

Most people don't realize what it takes to operate a church as far as the business aspect of it. I admittedly had no clue until I started working behind the scenes helping my pastor out with stuff. Yes it's ministry on the one hand but on the other hand it costs money to do ministry. As I stated before, churches don't get any breaks on their expenses. And unfortunately once you are aware, you're just aware. Even things as small as donation envelopes. So often I see folks letting their kids draw all over them envelopes. They'll have a whole stack of them just having a ball. I've even seen adults take them and write notes on them and I'm sitting there thinking "Do you have ANY idea how much those cost?" LOL!

We are not getting married at a church, we are getting married at a venue. The pastor that is performing our ceremony was my pastor many years ago. I got him and his wife a really nice gift and will be donating 150.00 to his church even though we do not go to it anymore . Does that seem reasonable?
