Different bridesmaid dresses...?

I was just wondering if it would either be tacky or interesting to let each of my bridesmaids pick their own dresses. We would probably go to David's Bridal and I would definitely choose the color that the dresses have to be. I think it looks good on the David's Bridal website, but I have no idea...

I think it looks good on the David's Bridal website, but I have no idea how it looks in person. Does anyone have any opinions and/or suggestions?

I've seen this very technique work beautifully. The color is a unifying, aesthetic principle. Are you thinking of limiting the choices to the same cloth, too? In most cases I would suggest the same cloth as well. Cloths drape differently, carry shades differently, etc.

Your bridesmaids will enjoy choosing a style that is most flattering on them. Have fun picking gowns galore! Perhaps schedule a little extra time in for this added option.

    Best,

Since your question is really about styling, then I have to give my 2 cents.

I think its a nice touch overall, as every female body is different, and if you're bridesmaid have a good fashion sense to begin with, then it could be really nice. After all, one dress is not gonna fit every gal as nice.

And even though, it's your day, it shows you care enough for your bridesmaids comfort and joy in letting them pick their style.

From a wedding alterations specialist point of view... this works well for most wedding parties I have worked with to choose their own gown. Just give guidelines for them to go by, as has been already mentioned in previous posts. But make sure you approve of the look for each bridesmaid. Why do I say this? Some brides have been surprised at what some bridesmaids pick for themselves.

Some bridesmaids seem to think that a wedding is all about them! Some choose styles to focus on body parts that would surely get them attention, much to the bride's dismay. No bride want's to go down the aisle and be upstaged in some way by the bridesmaids. So check out the dress, preferably on them, before they buy the gown.

    Hi Jenny,

I have been doing custom wedding veils for sometime now and I have heard a lot of by brides doing that for there bridesmaids. They feel that there BM's are more comfortable in a dress that they picked out. It also gives them a little bit of choice to your wedding as well. Best wished to you

I let my girls do it, they love it! I did make them all get the same style... I chose black satin floor length ball gowns, I think it's important to stay with the same color and fabric all the way around. However I have seen some girls really mix it up and that looks nice too it just looks odd if everyone is in satin and one girl is in chiffon, that person stands out and it's your day you are supposed to be the only one that stands out. =)

I'm stuck on my bridesmaids' dresses. I'd love to make them, but it seems more costly to make the gowns then to buy them...Plus all of my bridesmaids' come in very much different sizes so fitting's a tad hard. I'm trying to keep the style simple, elegant, not detract from me but still flatter the lady while keeping it in my theme. It's a pain in the butt. I was advised to keep the gown pretty much the same style with little differences. like my matrons of honors ( yea more then 1) their own style where as the bridesmaids' themselves have the same style.

    I love the idea.

but i would chose the color and give a few recomended styles. plus i would give them a list of places you found for BM dresses.

Although i wouldn't do Davids Bridal

    1) they give you nother for free b-c they don't need your business.

    2) SOMETIMES Quality and style is cheap and cheesy.

the place i found was http://www.exquisitebridesmaids.com/

they helped keep me within my budget b-c i called and asked them to activley find me dresses in a certain price range. They gave all my bm's free earings. and discounts of spanx and bras. Plus since one of the girls is a cops wife they gave her an extra discount.

I'm all about saving my girls $$.

    Good Luck. Smiley smile
