We could not have chosen a more perfect place for our destination wedding than The Berry Hill Resort and Convention Center. Our planning journey began nine months before the big day. After touring several venues in the Richmond area and feeling underwhelmed, we discovered Berry Hill—two hours away, but absolutely worth the drive. The pricing and amenities almost sounded too good to be true, so we fully expected to find a flaw when we visited. Instead, we fell completely in love.
The moment we walked into the mansion, we knew it was the place. It was even more beautiful in person—grand, elegant, and full of character. An added bonus was that everything was handicap accessible, which was essential for my dad and made the weekend comfortable and stress-free for him.
Our original coordinator was knowledgeable, friendly, laid-back, and made the entire planning process incredibly smooth. She even gave us her personal cell phone number and was always prompt, responsive, and reassuring. About three months before the wedding, she left the venue, which could have introduced stress, but Stephanie stepped in immediately. She introduced herself, explained her years of experience, and let us know we were in great hands. She was absolutely right.
Stephanie handled the final planning, rehearsal, ceremony, and reception with total precision. She anticipated every detail and managed each part of the wedding flawlessly. I felt confident every step of the way that nothing would be overlooked—and nothing was.
The staff overall was excellent. The hotel rooms were gorgeous and surprisingly affordable, making it easy for guests traveling from out of town. The event spaces were stunning and grand, offering an experience that felt luxurious without the luxury price tag. Truly—you get twice the wedding for half the price.
The grounds were beautiful for our mid-November outdoor wedding, and both the food at Darby’s Tavern and the reception were fantastic.
If you’re considering Berry Hill for your wedding: run, don’t walk, to book it. It exceeded every expectation and gave us the perfect wedding day. We could not be more grateful.Berry Hill Resort's reply:

Berry Hill was fantastic. The overall venue was beautiful and the front circle was so pretty. Our coordinator, Leighann Shields, went out of her way to accommodate us. She had a backup plan for an inside wedding since it was beginning to rain. She had everything set up just in case. She met with us several times throughout the year before the wedding and allowed us to sample the food they served which was absolutely delicious. Berry Hill Resort provided a huge complimentary room in the historical mansion for our wedding night. Other family members were in another suite across the hall which made it really fun going back and forth getting dressed. Leighann was always just a text or phone away. She took care of everything we needed. She stayed with us the entire night making sure everything went smoothly. It was a perfect venue and Leighann and her staff were so accommodating & perfect. Additionally Leighann was very down to earth and lot fun, It was beautiful!!!!Berry Hill Resort's reply:

Jamie and I were married at the beautiful Berry Hill Resort in South Boston, VA on June 12, 2025, and we truly could not have asked for a more perfect experience. From start to finish, working with Selena Thompson was an absolute dream. She is incredibly well-organized, calm under pressure, and endlessly accommodating. Her professionalism and grace made us feel supported every step of the way.
Selena went above and beyond to bring our vision to life—honestly, she helped us create a day that exceeded anything we could have imagined. As a vendor, I travel to many venues across the state. Berry Hill Resort is definitely on my short list of venues I recommend. This place is gorgeous, and I always get sense of peace when walking outside. The service and communication is thorough and I’m always greeted with a friendly smile. The rehearsal dinner for any wedding is the "kickoff' and the success of that event most definitely sets the tone for the special day. The rehearsal dinner hosted at Berry Hill Resort was pure perfection for the wedding kickoff of our son. Words that best describes our experience include Professional, Dedicated, Aim To Please, Spirit to Serve, Doing Whatever it Takes, Beautiful, Delicious Food, Helpful Staff, Attention to Details, Perfect Execution, Beautiful and Fun. An elegant and timeless venue
We had the wedding of our dreams at Berry Hill in May 2023. Stephanie could not have been a better wedding coordinator. She was very responsive and was committed to making sure we got exactly what we wanted. We had our rehearsal dinner in the Jefferson Grove, which was beautifully lit at night. My husband was adamant about having a Mexican themed rehearsal dinner and although BH typically doesn’t offer Mexican cuisine they made his wish come true and they nailed the tacos and queso. On our wedding day, it rained all day and we bounced around having the wedding under a tent we rented but as the ceremony was about to begin, the sun poked out and we were able to have the ceremony on the front steps of the Mansion. Stephanie and the BH staff were flexible with making a game time decision due to the weather as well.
We picked BH for its beauty, classic elegance, and we loved that the hotel was within walking distance from the venue. Our guests that stayed appreciated it too and so many commented on how stunning BH is. We would choose Berry Hill again a million times!! -

My wedding at Berry Hill Resort was absolutely magical. I could not have asked for a better place to get married. The views and photo opportunities are unmatched. We had excellent service for our wedding and also every time we attend Berry Hill, whether we visit the Library Bar or Darby's Tavern, everything is always top notch. The hotel and amenities are beautiful and our guests really enjoyed having a "weekend away". I would highly recommend to anyone looking to get married in the Southern Virginia area. -

The Berry Hill Resort is a gorgeous historic gem seated in the foothills of South Boston, Virginia. Having grown up half an hour from South Boston, I had always heard about Berry Hill, but never visited. While hunting for wedding venues, my now husband and I visited several sites. Berry Hill was our last visit because it was abundantly clear it was the perfect backdrop for the start of our marriage.
Aside from the absolutely stunning grounds, architecture, and timeless classic aesthetic of the period in which it was first built, the staff at Berry Hill are phenomenal. They truly care about making your experience everything you’ve hoped for, plus some! Everyone we came in contact with at Berry Hill was so friendly and attentive, and made sure no stone went unturned. Speaking personally, I was the most relaxed bride this world has probably ever seen, because I was confident that the staff of Berry Hill were going to execute everything perfectly. The entire day went off without a hitch, and it genuinely was that best day of our lives.
Berry Hill is the perfect all-inclusive venue. The planning stage was seamless, with the help of an on-site wedding coordinator. We came in for a dinner tasting in advance - the salmon is to die for! We had a rehearsal dinner at Berry Hill the night before, which was also very good, and all of our wedding party spent the night at the resort the night before as well. The attached hotel makes for the utmost convenience for guests, and made us feel relieved knowing they could dance and drink all night and get to their beds safely. Most of our guests stayed the night after the wedding.
The morning of the wedding, breakfast was delivered to my bridesmaids and I in one of the suites where we were getting ready. We had an assortment of fruits and breakfast pastries, coffee, champagne, and orange juice! The groomsmen got ready together in a mansionette separate from the main mansion building so my husband and I wouldn’t risk seeing each other!
Our small and intimate ceremony was in the Orangerie, and was short and sweet. We then had a cocktail hour in the mansion library while we and the wedding party went outside on the grounds for photos! The reception was in the grand ballroom, and we had a blast with the live band! Having Darby’s Tavern located right across a green area from the ballroom was also perfect, as some of our guests went over there to keep the party going after the reception winded down. The next morning, my husband and I enjoyed an amazing brunch at the Mansion Restaurant before leaving.
When we look back on our wedding day, there is no doubt that we chose the perfect venue for us. I highly recommend Berry Hill Resort!!! -

Perfect venue—
We cannot recommend Berry Hill enough as a wedding venue! Not only is the estate gorgeous and well-kept, but the mansion and venue are the definition of lush Southern charm. Steven, the estate’s wedding coordinator, is incredibly attentive and accommodating especially when we had to postpone several times due to the pandemic.
We have only excellent things to say about the venue and staff. Everything was just perfect—the mansion, ballroom, dinner, and reception were on point. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. -

Great Overall
Steven and his team were so accomodating, we went from 75 guests to 32 guests day of due to COVID and everyone was so flexible. Food and beverages were good as well. Would definitely recommend renting out the mansion. Was great to have all the rooms for guests at the venue! -

I had my wedding here this past weekend and though it was not what we had originally planned it was beautiful and Steven was amazing! Steven literally made the day go smoothly and I don’t think if we wouldn’t have had him there it wouldn’t have went as smoothly as it did. Steven kept us on time, made sure I had eaten, made sure that all of my vendors were in the places that they should be at the time of the ceremony. If I could give Berry Hill and Steven 1 million stars I would! The reception food was amazing and we were always made sure we had plenty of beverages. -

Wonderful. Better than we had dreamed
Steven Ouilette was indefatigable and always fun to work with . As parents of the groom, we handled the rehearsal dinner on site and it was like the set of Max Reinhardt’s, “Midsummer Night’s Dream.” Steven and his crew worked all day and all night and were totally flexible regarding our hopes and ideas. The barbecue that night was delicious, the young chef is terrific.
We are hard to please New Yorkers and think the entire weekend cld not have been so beautiful and relaxed anywhere as it was at Berry Hill. What a wonderful way to celebrate and launch the new life of the young Mr and Mrs Cronkite . Thank you, Steven and Berry Hill. -

My son and daughter in law were married two weeks ago at Berry Hill Resort and it was absolutely wonderful! Both the Rehearsal Dinner and the Wedding and the Reception were just exquisite and awesome! The location, the facilities, the staff, the food, the grounds, the mansion, the banquet hall, the rooms and all were just perfect! The wedding was just about as close to perfect as could possibly be! Seray and the whole staff from the registration desk to the restaurant, to the waitstaff and banquet servers to the housekeeping staff and the Darby's tavern bartenders and staff were just simply amazing! They were all so friendly, helpful, kind, accommodating and professional. They treated everybody like they were the most special guest ever! Thank you to all for facilitating a wonderful wedding and to making us feel so special and so happy with our treatment! I most highly and whole heartedly recommend Berry Hill Resort for those wanting the perfect storybook wedding venue!!! -

The Berry Hill events staff were so helpful and accommodating while planning our elopement. On the big day they were attentive to every little detail. Thank you Kara, Ky, and Seray! We had a wonderful and unique stay in the mansion and one of the mini mansions. Delicious food at Darby’s Tavern and refreshing drinks at the Parlour Bar too. If you are looking for a place to hold a special event or just looking for a weekend getaway, we highly recommend The Berry Hill Resort and Conference Center! -

My son got married last weekend at Berry Hill and I could not have been more pleased with the service and attention we received from the entire staff but especially Kara, Ky, suray and Noel. They went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed and took any stress we had away that comes with planning a wedding. If you are looking for a beautiful venue, plenty of activities for your out of town guests and just an overall wonderful experience, you won’t find a better place or staff than Berry Hill. We left feeling like we were part of their family.

My husband and I got married at Berry Hill May 18, 2019 with about 200 guests. I almost feel like this review won’t even do the venue and staff there justice because they were INCREDIBLE! From the second we started working with the wedding team there we were so impressed. Throughout the planning process they were always there when I needed them and made sure any detail I wanted included in the wedding or reception could be done, even if it seemed completely out of reach. We worked closely with Ky and Kara and can’t say enough positives about the two of them. They did not make it feel like it was a business at all, more like friends planning a wedding together. My husband wasn’t able attend meetings because he serves in the Marines, and they were so patient with us to be sure he could also be involved from a distance. The one thing that stood out was that every staff member on site at Berry Hill the day of our wedding knew everything there was to know about our wedding and what we wanted. They made it feel like they were working for us that day, not Berry Hill. They were completely at our service and went above and beyond to make sure our needs were met and more. Our wedding day was so hot, but the staff there did everything they possibly could to keep us and the guests cool throughought the ceremony and reception. We changed things about the ceremony on the spot and it went seamlessly because of how hard they worked.
All of our guests were blown away by the beauty of Berry Hill as our wedding venue and still talk about it every time we see them. Every detail of the interior and exterior has Virginia’s southern charm and is so elegant. The venue was perfect for us because my husband’s family came from out of town, so everyone spent the entire weekend together. My family also stayed there, even though we are only 30 minutes away because once you are there you don’t have to leave! I don’t think there were any amenities that our wedding party didn’t use. We ate at Darby’s Tavern repeatedly because it is delicious, used the pool, basketball court, tennis courts, pool table, and enjoyed each other’s company outside in the courtyard after the wedding for hours! Also, my dog got to come to the wedding, and because he is a Great Dane, most places would have turned him away. Out of all the venues we considered, Berry Hill was the one that stood out to us the most. With other venues we found that when you booked, most of the time it was an empty space and you had to rent tables, chairs, linens, etc., but it is all included. Not only that, but you have a complete team working for you, which is priceless. We could not have had a better experience at Berry Hill and would highly recommend it to anyone planning a wedding, large or small. -

My experience with Berry Hill was absolutely amazing. I reached out to Berry Hill right before they changed ownership. As a bride with 6 months to plan a wedding, I was so worried it would be nothing but extra stress. Kara was absolutely amazing to work with! She was so quick to answer any questions I had and helped with anything I asked of her. On the days leading up to the wedding, both Kara and Ky helped us so much. We had last minute requests that they were so happy to accommodate. Our wedding was beautiful and I'm so happy I went with Berry Hill. -

From the amazing location, to the incredible staff (especially Rhonda who will go above and beyond to make everything perfect) . . . you cannot pick a better wedding venue. We had the most amazing wedding and everyone keeps talking about Berry Hill and how perfect it was. The mansion is gorgeous, the hotel is comfortable and very clean, and the banquet hall is stunning. The food is also incredible, both at the tavern for lunches, the Sunday brunch and of course at the actual wedding. There is so much to do for your guests, swimming, biking, hiking, the spa . . . they will be so thrilled to have so many great options. Berry Hill is truly top notch, you cannot ask for more. -

I grew up near Berry Hill because my father, before he switched jobs to help my family move to Carrollton, had worked as the head chef for a Bed and Breakfast named Eldon, that my grandparents had owned. My sister, Isabella, and I loved imagining our weddings at Berry Hill, and I hope one day it comes true. -

My husband and I had our wedding at Berry Hill in July of 2022. As soon as we visited the venue, we instantly fell in love with the romantic and grand entrance, the historic hotel suites and old world charm of the buildings, and the stunning landscaping throughout the venue. It was a bonus that their prices were very reasonable, especially when compared to other Virginia wedding venues--we are from the DC area originally and found the site fees at most venues in the area to be astronomical compared to Berry Hill. Considering how beautiful Berry Hill is and the convenience they provide with their services, we are SO happy we ended up having our wedding there instead of Northern VA. Our wedding party and guests also thoroughly enjoyed having a resort to relax and unwind at and enjoy each others' company for an entire weekend. Weddings can feel so rushed sometimes but this aspect helped us to enjoy the celebrations even more, as we had the rehearsal dinner and a post-wedding brunch at the resort as well (p.s. the food is delicious and accommodating of dietary restrictions!).
Steven Ouellete is the wedding coordinator and he is SO easy to work with. He and all the staff at Berry Hill are extremely friendly and accommodating. Steven was very attentive to all of my last-minute requests--especially considering it was POURING up until 30 mins before our outdoor ceremony, but his team and a few guests were able to clean everything up and allow us to have our ceremony outdoors in front of the mansion--it was truly magical!!
The day of the ceremony (and for the rehearsal/rehearsal dinner) Steven and his team take care of nearly everything so I didn't feel like I had to stress about logistics or timing and I could really just soak in our special day. Although some may desire a wedding planner to fit their wedding day needs, we felt confident we did not need to do so, and it turned out we were right because Steven does such a good job of coordinating with the bride and groom and the vendors and making sure everything goes smoothly!
Planning a wedding can be so stressful but Berry Hill really took a lot of the stress off by providing all of the tables, chairs, linens, food, drinks, champagne, accommodations, wedding coordination, wonderful preferred vendors, and much more! All of the vendors we used were recommended by Berry Hill and we were so happy with all of them. I had so much going on between work and school leading up to our wedding, that I really took a more relaxed approach to planning our wedding and everything went off without a hitch thanks to Steven and everyone at Berry Hill!! -

Chelsea Sent on 11/07/2011Berry Hill Resort combines the rustic elegance and charm of a family estate with the conveniences of a resort. The location really exhibits old Virginian charm. I would describe the estate as a whole as rustic with the breathtaking grounds, stone wall surrounding the part of the property, family cemetery, and ponds. Conversely, the mansion is quite grand and elegant. The combination was absolutely exactly what we wanted (and envisioned) for our wedding.
Rhonda van der Schagt, the Sales and Event Manager, was so easy to work with. She has a very calming demeanor and provides an excellent level of service to her clients. She is your point person throughout the planning process and is there for your entire event to ensure flawless execution, which really gave me peace of mind and took a lot of the stress off of me the day of our wedding. I was able to just sit back and enjoy, rather than worrying about or getting caught up in the minutia. We had a small wedding, 72 people, mostly coming from out of state and many from England. All of our guests had such lovely things to say about the location (beauty, service, accommodations). We really had the feel that we got to take over the resort and spend time with our guests the entire weekend, rather than just at the rehearsal dinner and wedding reception. I strongly recommend you and your family occupy the mansion suites and mini-mansions. The mansion suites are a perfect place to get ready and are large enough with the sitting room to have your bridal party relax and hang out the day of the wedding. They provide you the room you need to stay organized and not get overwhelmed. We loved staying in the mansion and having our cocktail hour inside the mansion parlor. So many of the other venues we considered didn’t allow you to go inside the mansion…you basically had to have your party in the garden under a tent with the house as a backdrop. Whereas at Berry Hill, you not only have the option of renting space in the mansion but staying in the mansion…it’s so lovely! The venue is so elegant, inside and out, all you have to do is compliment the space with fresh flowers (no grand themes or decorations needed). Simple, elegant, beautiful.

We recently had the pleasure of hosting our daughter's wedding at Berry Hill, and we couldn’t have been happier with the experience. From the beginning, Selena demonstrated exceptional dedication; her responsiveness and willingness to accommodate all of our requests made the planning process remarkably smooth.
On the day of the wedding, Selena’s leadership and attention to detail ensured that everything went off without a hitch. The ambiance was absolutely stunning, and many guests commented on the elegance and sophistication of the venue. If I had to find something to nitpick, I would say that better, more accessible parking is needed – it’s a tiny thing compared to how amazing everything else was, but worth mentioning.

She even stepped in as bartender to make sure the party went on! The food was amazing and they were so great with all the changes and special requests we had. Loved having our wedding here and being able to spend the weekend with our family on such a beautiful property
