Melissa is simply amazing. I have never met someone as organized and detailed as she is. While wedding planning is notoriously stressful, working with Melissa made the entire process easy. She provided expert advice and guidance on everything from the large, high-stakes decisions down to the most granular details.
She answered our millions of questions with ease, which really speaks to her dedication and years of experience. She provided all the necessary templates and tools we needed to keep us organized and on track. You can truly tell she genuinely cares and works incredibly hard to make your dream come true.
Our wedding day was absolutely perfect. Melissa and her staff operated like a well oiled machine. They were helpful, courteous, and supportive, with every single team member working to make the day magical. They were so attentive and made sure we had everything we needed from start to finish.
By the end of the process, Melissa became more than a wedding planner, she became a friend. When the wedding was over, we were actually sad because we realized we wouldn't be seeing her as much as we had over the last year!

Knot Too Shabby - Total Pros!
Melissa and the knot too shabby events team are pros. There are so many moving parts and dependencies to consider when planning a wedding, all of which require careful timing and thoughtful execution. Often, there are numerous back and forth exchanges with vendors and conversations that require a level of depth that demands an expert. Knowing KTSE had all of these details (big and small) covered and kept us moving was a huge weight of our shoulders. However, where KTSE really demonstrates their value is the week leading up to wedding day and the wedding day itself. It’s incredible when you see everything come together, and that is when you know it was worth it.

Melissa and her team at Knot Too Shabby were spectacular. She helped us for over a year planning our dream wedding from afar (as we were living across the country at the time) and her process is extremely dialed. She’s communicative, knowledgeable, and kind! She’s also clearly really good at what she does - from helping us with thoroughly designed spreadsheets to vendor recs to last minute questions. Our actual wedding day was so smooth I felt like we had hired an entire team of professionals dedicated to supporting us. I would (and have) recommend her in a heartbeat!

Melissa and The Knot Too Shabby team created absolute magic for our wedding day. Not only did they create a smooth for day of, their support and guidance through our year and a half of planning was phenomenal.
I plan events as part of by job, and I knew I needed a planner for our wedding to ensure that we were not the ones running around during wedding weekend. I cannot thank Melissa enough for how calm she kept us (and our families). Melissa allowed us to have as much free reign in the planning as we liked, and guided us through the final stages so we didn't have to wonder if any detail was missed. Beyond incredible organization, Melissa is just a joy to work with. We could immediately crack jokes and laugh about the funny little pieces that pop up during preparing for your wedding.

Melissa and her team are absolutely incredible at what they do and fully deserve all of the amazing reviews that you see! We would have never been able to pull off anything close to the wedding we had without everything she provided for us. She is extremely organized and has so much material for you to review all the options that you have and be able to make the best decision for what you want at your wedding. We are very indecisive people so making decisions for your wedding is hard, but Melissa was always there to provide guidance and examples of what she's done in the past to help us lock in our choices. Every single vendor we had (florist, DJ, bakery, catering, EVERYTHING) was perfect and we did not stray away from any of her recommendations. Her knowledge of options to customize our wedding to our wants and needs seemed to never end and it made us so excited for the day to finally come. Our venue was Wrightsville Manor in Wilmington, NC and her expertise with how the venue flows on a typical wedding weekend really showed through our planning process and helped to make everything about our wedding feel so seamless. The setups of our ceremony, cocktail hour and reception were straight out of a magazine and everything we could have ever imagined!
Our wedding day went flawlessly! Melissa and her team are running around like secret service to ensure everything is going to plan and never makes the couple worry about anything - they're always ahead of it. However, they do it in such a discreet and welcoming fashion, our family and guests made so many positive comments about all the work that they were doing. Everything from helping the day before secure umbrella rentals with the threat of rain on our wedding day, to having all of our belongings packed neatly in our getaway vehicle after the wedding (because we had no idea where any of our stuff was by the end of the night) we couldn't have been more impressed by how well they can plan and run a wedding.
There is no better feeling than leaving your wedding knowing that everything went to plan and we wouldn't change a thing! That feeling is priceless and we will be forever grateful to the KTSE team for providing us with the best day of our lives. We cannot recommend KTSE enough for wedding planning!!!

Melissa is exactly who you want to have on your wedding day. I booked a year ago with her and she never stops communicating. Her attention to detail is incredible and treats you like a friend, not a client. She sticks up for you and advocates for what you want. She made our dream day come true and more. She is simply the best and so are all of her day of minions. The website was seamless, payments were seamless and she’s incredibly great at her job. Not too shabby is right!
We hired Knot Too Shabby to serve as partial planners for our wedding in June of 2024. Melissa was an absolute ROCKSTAR from day one. She was so quick to respond to emails and from right off the bat we knew we were in great hands. When friends and family asked us how wedding planning was going, we would always respond that Melissa had everything covered.
From our first meeting, Melissa had a clear and easy to follow plan to ensure that we were meeting our wedding milestones like booking our venue, selecting a caterer, etc. She was with us every step of the way and artfully guided us along our planning journey to ensure we had the wedding of our dreams. We really appreciated the planning website that was curated and full of tips, budget advice/tracking and a place to keep all important documents/contracts.
Her eye for detail and vision for our aesthetic resulted in a stunning ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception. We are forever grateful for her advice and guidance in selecting and organizing our various vendors.

Melissa was an absolute dream of a wedding planner. I truly could not have had such a perfect wedding day if it wasn't for her and her team. As soon as we had our consult we knew we had to have her. And as planning went on, we quickly realized that of all the decisions that come with planning a wedding, securing her as our planning was by far the best. She was extremely organized, always on top of communication, and was so good at keeping us calm throughout the entire process. She gave us excellent vendor recommendations as well. We were so pleased with every single person we hired to make our visions come to life in a more perfect way than we ever imagined. Her day-of service was outstanding. Ktse is the best!
Melissa and her team are Out of This World! When I say that, I mean saying WOW! times infinity because they are that amazing. I researched several wedding planners in the Wilmington area, and once I had an initial consultation meeting with Melissa (lead planner), I knew she was destined to be my wedding planner. I wanted to plan most of my wedding and so I went with her Wedding Management Package with Design since I was not sure how to exactly put all my ideas together. Once I received access to her wedding planning portal, I was just getting more excited about my wedding because the portal offered everything for a bride to keep organized. The portal was very impressive as it offered a timeline of to-do task, spreadsheets of all sorts (guest list, budget, etc). When it came time for the design meeting, Melissa put all my ideas together and created an initial design board and I was just stoked! She immediately knew which florist would meet my expectations and "aesthetics" which was Designs by Dillon. Melissa listened to me, details, and vision I had mentioned throughout the planning process.
The few weeks leading up to the wedding I had a meeting with my DJ and he was very impressed with Melissa's wedding day timeline and floor plan she created. It made the DJ meeting so much easier as we planned out which songs to play at what time during the course of the wedding day. My photographer/videographer also told me on the wedding day how detailed and impressed they were with the timeline, which was very helpful for them to cover the shots they needed to.
On our wedding day, Melissa and her team came prepared and ready to go all with all their bright personalities. They set up all the things I had like signage, menu cards exactly the way we planned. You can tell they all love what they do! If there was an issue, Melissa was there to keep you calm. She and her team made my wedding the Best Day Ever! I literally felt like I was in a fairytale movie the entire day because of them. Thank you so much again Knot Too Shabby Events!!

Perfect Day! Magical!
Melissa starts the relationship with understanding who you are and what's important to you for the event. We held a slightly different event in that we were marrying later in life and wanted a true celebration event. Additionally, the event was on a private property and so every aspect was "custom". Melissa's attention to detail, her project management skills, her responsiveness, her wonderful personal style, her creativity and her problem solving skills were 100%. I suspect we don't know everything that she did to ensure we had a seamless and stress-free wedding celebration. Melissa and her team paid attention to every last detail and made us feel like we were her most important clients! Truly wonderful experience.
We always had confidence that Melissa had everything under control. She and her team have excellent experience in managing all types of projects. In addition, Melissa has excellent relationships with the various vendors - this helps on so many levels.
Melissa kept us updated all the time, communicating often and accurately. Melissa always brought solutions to any issues that popped up. All created great confidence!

I cannot say enough great things about Melissa and the entire Knot Too Shabby crew! I asked my husband what the one thing was that was 100% worth every penny and he said the wedding planner without a second of hesitation. We used Melissa & team for wedding management and the planning tools and scheduled calls ensured I was able to effectively plan the wedding up until the point Melissa took over! Truly do not have the right words to express how much Melissa and her team made not only the day of, but entire wedding process so enjoyable, stress free, and seamless. Melissa was recommended to me as a top choice by my wedding venue, and top notch is MORE than what she is! I hired Melissa over a year out before my special day and she was there for me at close reach over a quick email from day one! The support, time, effort, and knowledge of the wedding industry was more than exceptional. The checklist and portal she supplies you with to prepare for your wedding allows planning to be seamless without any details being missed. She supplies you with all the tools you need to have your dream wedding day. On the day of the wedding I felt 100% confident in her taking control of organizing all of the vendors and keeping the wedding party and family on schedule. I did a lot of DIY for my wedding and she was able to arrange and style all of my items just as I had explain to her and shown her in inspiration photos! She and other KTSE staff were very detail oriented and were very pleasant to work with! On the morning of my wedding I had one of her assistants with me to carry out some last minute tasks (breakfast/lunch for the girls, confirming transportation for the guest to the venue, taking items to the venue, etc) which was more than helpful when a bride is getting caught up in the excitement of her wedding day! HIRE MELISSA RIGHT NOW. I have gotten the unique experience to be able to both intern/work for Melissa when I attended UNCW and now, be one of her brides!! I can truly say from both sides, Melissa and the KTSE are the best of the best and handled everything flawlessly so my husband and I could really enjoy our day. The day of our wedding, it was 90% chance of rain and it rained basically all day until ~2 hours before our ceremony start time (which was planned to be outside). The morning of, Melissa told me they'd have plan A, B, and C for us and I knew we didn't have to worry about a thing! Throughout the day, they were constantly checking to be sure I didn't need anything, updated me as things progressed, and just went above and beyond expectations. The best of the best!
I wish I could somehow give this review over 5 stars - that's how amazing Melissa as her entire team is! We were fortunate enough to work with her full service for our wedding in April. We had our ceremony at a church and our reception at Ironclad Brewery downtown. Having our wedding in two locations involved some logistics - however Melissa worked everything out and it was so smooth. I can't even tell you how many people told me afterwards "the was the smoothest and best wedding I've ever attended". I credit Melissa and her team 100%!! We had the BEST vendor team and that was all due to her recommendations. I couldn't be happier and our wedding high will never go away

The best planner in Wilmington!
As a type A, over planner I always knew that I would want to use a wedding planner for my big day but after meeting Melissa at Knot Too Shabby I realized that I had met my match! Melissa was always available, always bubbly, always tentative and always there for me. She listened to the ideas of our loved one's, but always made sure she was tending to my husband and I's needs as well. Her guidance through the planning process was unbelievable. From the portal she offers, the layout and timeline she develops, the thorough meetings to the month before my wedding when she took over, I always knew that we were in good hands. A wedding is supposed to be about celebrating your love not stressing and Melissa allowed us to do just that. Her knowledge of the vendors in town and the relationships she has with all of them is top notch. Every vendor I booked would get so excited when they heard I was using Knot too Shabby. I can not say enough good things about my wedding day and all that Melissa and her team did for me. She made sure that every single part of the day was how I imagined it would be. It is not easy coordinating my large wedding party, big Italian family and 200 person guest list, but she did just that. Leading up to the ceremony someone was always checking in on me and telling me where I needed to be. I felt like a princess being escorted everywhere and they truly treated me like a celebrity. From talking down my nerves right before I walked down the isle, to holding my dress and flowers I was always taken care of. After the ceremony we were greeted with our drink of choice and from that moment on our drink was never empty. We were waited on by the Knot too Shabby staff the entire night. After photos the staff made sure we had a few moments of alone time to take a deep breath, enjoy the apps and bustle my dress (which I could have never done on my own). The reception was everything I dreamed it would be! Melissa had the space flipped to exactly how I imagined it. They continued to take care of us the entire night-- making sure we ate, had a drink, didn't need anything. They helped us coordinate walking around to greet the tables and where to start at first. They made sure we had my Grandmother's champagne glasses filled for our toasts. Anything you can think of, Melissa and her team did. At the end of the reception she even managed to line up 200 tipsy guests for our sparkler exit. Last, but not least we were staying at a cottage for the night right next to our wedding venue. After the 'after party' we got back to the cottage to find our cards neatly laid out, my wedding bouquet in a vase with water next to my bed, a meal labeled for Tanner and I in the fridge, wedding cake laid out for us and all of our items neatly stacked away. After a loooong, perfect day, I can't begin to tell you how incredible it was to come home to all of those finishing details. When I say Knot too Shabby is the BEST, I mean it. I could go on for days about how much they did for us and how perfect they made our wedding day. Melissa and her team truly care about their clients and it is so very evident in the service that they provide. I couldn't imagine planning a wedding without Knot too Shabby. If you want the day of your dreams with no stress, no worries, a day that flows perfectly and every detail in place then you have to work with Knot too Shabby. Melissa- I can not thank you enough for all that you did. Your title might be wedding planner, but you are seriously an angel on Earth.

Fairy Godmothers!
Melissa truly is amazing, along with her staff. Every day leading up to the wedding she was always there, quick responses and gave me different options to choose from when it came to her advice on details. I trusted her from the moment we had our first phone call consultation. Her true colors came to light on my actual wedding day. This whole time she was helpful and friendly. But having her, and her staff, on the day of my wedding?! It was just like having a team of fairy godmothers there to give you exactly what you need before you even need it. It was like she went from super woman to supercalifragalisticexpialidocious woman! Not only were they there for me but my wedding party and guests as well. Whatever anyone needed they were there to help. My MOH was talking to a bridesmaid and told her she needed bandaids, one of the KTSE ladies said I will be right back and got her bandaids. One of the ladies also followed my husband and I around during our picture time and she was so helpful. I made a comment about my bouquet being heavy and her staff member offered to hold it for me. They are there constantly fluffing your dress, fixing that one piece of hair before a picture, getting you a drink, holding your dress for you while you pee, hyping you up the whole day! My wedding day is one of the best days of mine and my husbands life, we constantly wish we could relive the day, and large part of that is because of KTSE and how easy going, and stress free we were on the day of. They are there to do all the worrying, decorating, setting up, everything for you, so that you can truly enjoy your wedding day.

The Best of the Best
We hired Knot Too Shabby for a partial planning package and Melissa and Katelyn were absolutely amazing. Melissa happened to have a family members wedding the same day as mine, so I knew from day 1 that Katelyn would be my day-of coordinator. Luckily for me, that meant I got both of these awesome ladies’ help for the 14 months leading up to the wedding.
Melissa is extremely honest about the wedding planning process and if you have an idea that may not work, she will tell you. I appreciate that so much because she truly has your best interest at heart and it’s extremely obvious that she wants your wedding to be the absolute best day. She has so much experience and has basically seen it all, so having someone like her to offer their honest opinions and suggestions was really a huge relief throughout the whole process.
They were very responsive over email and answered my millions of questions in a timely manner, and we were even able to have some phone calls and meet up a few times before the wedding to go over final details. A month before the wedding, I handed over all of my contracts and they made sure that all of my vendor details were confirmed and squared away. It was really nice to have all of those phone calls and extra stress off my plate leading up to the wedding.
Katelyn and the rest of the KTSE team absolutely rocked our wedding day. They completely transformed the venue space into a picturesque dream- like right off of a pinterest board. It was truly everything I had ever dreamed of when I pictured my wedding. They never stopped moving, ensuring every detail was perfectly executed and nothing got missed. Katelyn was by my side all day keeping me up to date on what was going on, keeping the timeline as close as possible, and making sure I always had fresh beverage! The wedding went so incredibly smooth, from our perspective. If anything did go wrong, we never knew a single thing about it. I have gotten SO MANY comments and compliments, from family and friends, about Katelyn; she truly was a Godsend and there is no way that our wedding day would’ve been what it was without her and the rest of the team.

Amazing Wedding Planner
Melissa and the Knot to Shabby team were absolutely amazing. We used her full planning package and it was worth every penny. From the design to the day of everything was really perfect. During the entire planning process Melissa was super organized, provided us with a lot of helpful panning tools and always kept in contact with us via email, phone and zoom meetings. She was very willing to accommodate our budget and helped us navigate some last minute covid changes. Every single vendor she helped us to pick was amazing. On the day of the wedding, everything went so smoothly. Melissa and her team brought our vision to life. It was truly better than what we ever imagined. Perfect, Stress-Free Wedding!
WOW! Melissa and the rest of the Knot Too Shabby team were absolutely amazing to work with as we planned our wedding! From day one, Melissa was friendly and honest about the wedding-planning process. She was there for us every step of the way, making sure that our wedding was exactly what we wanted. We had to make the extremely difficult decision to postpone our wedding due to COVID, and Melissa was right there with us, making sure all our vendors were on board and that everything stayed the same, all while keeping us calm about the switch and excited about our big day. Her professionalism, friendliness, and patience blew us away throughout the entire wedding process. Melissa is extremely hardworking and detail-oriented, which we truly appreciated. Melissa brought in her also incredible team members on our wedding day. They too were extremely helpful and friendly, offering to help, solving any problems (not that we would have known if there were any!), and ensuring we were relaxed and enjoying ourselves fully. Not only were we impressed, but our guests were raving about their interactions with the KTS team as well. We were unsure if we wanted a wedding planner at first, but oh my gosh, are we so happy and grateful that we did, and that we chose the best there is, because our wedding day was perfectly perfect and SO much fun. We didn’t have to worry about anything and it felt like we were their only wedding all year, because of how much dedication and support they showed us constantly. This was the best decision I made during the wedding planning process. Melissa was one of the first people I decided to work with, and she did not disappoint. Over the three years we coordinated and planned our wedding, she went above and beyond. We had partial planning services, but she truly our did herself. With Covid-19 affecting our wedding, she went through two postponements with us. She never skipped a beat, was beyond helpful and wanted to just help us out and make things a little easier for us. She has so much experience and is so knowledgeable about what we needed to have to make our day seamless. Melissa, Kaitlyn and the whole KTS team were absolutely amazing! They understood my vision of a simple boho romantic farm wedding and executed every little detail perfectly. They were so professional and poised, I was so happy that I took their advise when I saw every suggestion they made come to fruition on our wedding day. They updated all of the vendors every step of the way to confirm the timeline and everyone knew exactly what to do when they arrived and the day could not have gone any smoother! It was also really awesome seeing the Instagram pics and videos behind the scenes afterwards while on our honeymoon. I can't recommend them enough!!

From start to finish Melissa took over the planning process (at our request) from the timeline, to the layout, and even vendor interactions making it painless, easy, and professional for us. I cannot even begin to describe how wonderful it was to work with Katelyn and Melissa from Knot Too Shabby Events. They are amazing people inside and out! Katelyn was our planner, and she was so knowledgeable, supportive, organized, and responsive throughout the whole process. She brought my attention to so many details that I would have never thought of, and had an answer for every question I threw at her.
Our wedding was planned for May 16, 2020, so our plans were significantly changed by COVID-19. Our plans changed not once, but THREE times, and Katelyn handled it with such grace and with a smile. While navigating through the emotional coronavirus mess, Katelyn was supportive and helpful through all the changes with vendors, plans, new restrictions and timelines. We had the BEST experience with Melissa throughout the planning process and then with the team on the day-of! From the very beginning, Melissa was hands-on and able to help us craft what we wanted into actuality. When we first got engaged, I had a hard time explaining our dream wedding; Melissa helped us create the event of our dreams and was able to work within our budget constraints. She is also so well-connected with different vendors. We were able to get in touch and hire the best vendors suited for our event based on her recommendations.
Like many people, we had to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic. When we realized we had to make changes to our event, Melissa and her team were able to follow health and safety guidelines seamlessly and work to ensure we, as clients, were happy and help make sure vendors were all on the same page too.
Hiring Melissa and her team was hands-down the best decision we made for our big day. Working with Melissa virtually eliminated the stress associated with wedding planning and made this chapter of our lives exciting and enjoyable.

I was pretty hesitant on going with a wedding planner, but decided to go with Melissa and her team. It truly was the best vendor choice we made hands down. From day one, talking about the wedding with Melissa was like talking to a friend. She was so understanding and knowledgeable and knew exactly what we wanted. The day before our wedding the heat index was so high, that Melissa made the suggestion to move most of our wedding inside, and my god was she right. Our wedding day truly turned out perfect because of her, and she even helped me days following our wedding. Incredible experience from beginning to end, my only regret was getting the partial package instead of the full planning. I was an emotional wreck (like most brides) until Melissa took over, the second we left our first meeting my mom and I looked at each other, sighed and said "thank god we have Melissa". From coordinating the final issues and bills with our vendors, to little details that we forgot about Melissa handled it all during those two hours. After that meeting I was constantly emailing Melissa, and vice versa, I never felt like I was bothering her, she always had the answers and was always there to help! Also Melissa brought up the idea that we needed to do a first look, something I wanted but my husband was not thrilled about, we needed to do this because our wedding was at the end of October at 5:30 and the sun would have begun to set without a first look, something we NEVER thought about.
Now come rehearsal, our rowdy bridal party was corralled, it was short sweet and to the point and she had everyone paying attention it was awesome. She even thought through the marriage license portion of the day which I would have blanked on.
On the day of Melissa and her team were a GOD SEND. From getting to the venue the second it opened to coordinate the florist, to my dad dropping off lunch, to the guys dropping off decor. By the time I arrived at the venue it was basically set up besides final touches, I didn't have to stress or lift a finger, just answer a few questions, it was like Melissa was in my head! She made sure to keep the groomsmen in line and always let them know where they needed to be standing/waiting the entire time. Her assistant was also the absolute best, coordinating everything from checking behind me to grab my makeup, to grabbing our personalized pint glasses halfway through the night so we wouldn't forget them/leave them. They were even so thoughtful to get my husband and my favorite beer to make sure that we would never run out and that the bartenders always knew what we wanted. During cocktail hour they whisked us in the side door and upstairs so we could have a few moments together alone to reflect on the ceremony and eat some food!
I can not recommend Knot too Shabby enough, they truly were the best decision we made and helped me have the wedding of my dreams! WE LOVE YOU GUYS!

Words simply cannot describe how perfect Melissa and her team are! We hired Melissa for full service planning in August 2017 for our wedding in June 2019 at Wrightsville Manor, and I genuinely don’t think we could have had our dream wedding without her. Melissa made an effort to get to know both my husband and I throughout the process and helped us determine what our priorities were for our big day. From that, she made vendor recommendations based on those priorities, along with the ideas and designs that we collectively came up with. When issues arose during the planning process, she handled them with the utmost level of professionalism. On the day of our wedding, she literally handled everything (decorating, coordinating vendor arrival and set up, etc.) so we, along with our families and bridal party, could just focus on experiencing the excitement of our wedding day. It’s been 2 weeks since our wedding and we’re STILL getting messages and phone calls from guests about how beautiful our wedding was and how amazing Melissa’s team (& her recommended vendors) were. If you’re on the fence about hiring a planner, do it. But don’t just hire any planner, hire Knot Too Shabby Events!!

The best investment we made in our day
We used the full planning service of KTSE, and I cannot explain how much we love Melissa, Katelyn, and the entire team. As an out-of-town bride, Melissa was so helpful with scheduling and attending my vendor meetings, helping me tweak my design ideas, and keeping me on track with my own to-do list. Melissa is also a genuinely sweet person, she really works to build relationships with her brides to understand what the "perfect day" looks like to them. On our wedding day, our families were able to relax and truly enjoy it because we knew Melissa and her team had everything covered. KTSE was there early to handle directing vendors, and venue set up. They ensured all the major and minor details were completed and that Michael and I stayed on schedule. Her team was always checking on us to make sure we didn't need anything, and kept smiling and sweeping when our guests broke a countless number of wine glasses. She and her team were the best investment we made in our day, the peace of mind they brought was priceless. I can honestly say because of the them, we had the very best wedding day.

It has been about two weeks since Michael and I tied the knot and we truly can say the day wouldn’t have been as amazing and perfect without the help, guidance, support and love of Melissa and her staff. Melissa is so so so amazing to work with. Melissa has such an eye for detail and makes sure the day goes off without a hitch. Melissa is extremely organized and made sure all details were taken care of and thought of for our big day. Melissa took our vision and made sure it came to life for our big day. Honestly I can't even begin to describe how AMAZING Knot Too Shabby Events and team are! As a bride who is passionate about design and also planning they helped so much for the month of. From the moment I met Melissa I knew she had to be a part of my wedding and she exceeded all of my expectations. My now husband and I ended our wedding night saying none of this could have been possible without Melissa and her team. We cannot rave more about Melissa from Knot Too Shabby Events. Our wedding wouldn't have been possible without her - we're so happy she was part of our big day. Her attention to detail, calmness during wedding chaos, and warmth gave me so much piece of mind on our wedding day. Something I especially loved was that she creatively used extra decorations and flowers I had for the reception - she beautifully snipped flowers, strategically placed extra candles, and made last minute details absolutely perfect - she made my wedding vision a reality! Let me first start out by saying I had NO idea what I was doing with this whole wedding planning thing --where do I start? What do I do first? Ugh, just the thought still makes me want to cry. I was married in Wilmington, NC on 12/30 after a May engagement. I knew I had a lot on my hands as I was solo planning a massive wedding of 180 people from D.C. on a weekend nestled between XMAS & NYE.
I met Melissa (owner of Knot too shabby) at a coffee shop and we immediately connected. The only thing I am sure of - is you do NOT go with Melissa and her team-you will cry tears of sadness on your wedding day & everything will fall apart-it is a fact- mainly because there is ZERO chance I could of done it without her or her team because NO OTHER wedding planner could be this good. To be clear, Melissa and her team are no less than phenomenal at their jobs.
I wouldn't say I am the most organized person but Melissa laid everything out for me, kept me on point & kept me from going off the rails. She was just incredible & handled everything. She was there for me ANYTIME I would email her, text her, call her - she would always get back to me ASAP. She was affordable & honestly, she and her team with worth every penny. Heck, I even had a few issues AFTER I got back from my honeymoon & she was still emailing, texting, calling me and my vendors on my behalf---now if that isn’t a remarkable wedding planner, I don’t know who is?!
Broken glass on the dance floor? Not to fret! Her team were like little beer fairies anticipating that very thing & were immediately out there with broom & a dust pan cleaning it up as if something out of a Disney movie. She was insanely knowledgeable about EVERY vendor I needed (like when I needed projection screens to play music videos at my reception-no problem, she knows a guy). Hire her and your wedding will be smooth sailing --if you don’t hire her, prepare yourself for things to go completely wrong-that's a fact. She's a wedding planning angel.

From beginning to end- absolutely a top-notch experience working with Melissa from Knot Too Shabby Events. She is the BEST in her business. I honestly could not imagine going thru this process without her! I was having to plan a wedding from across the country, at a venue I had never even seen until a few months before our big day. I had a great experience with every single vendor she put in front of me. Her keen eye for detail, focus, extreme organization and responsiveness (she would always text/call/email back RIGHT away) always impressed me!! If you are looking for a wedding or event planner, I can tell you that you are doing yourself a disservice by NOT hiring her. Our wedding (and everything leading up to it) was absolute perfection! :)

The staff at Knot Too Shabby is amazing. They work so hard and are determined to make your special day better than you could have ever imagined. My husband and I would have been completely lost without Melissa and Raelin. They were absolutely incredible! They ensured that our wedding went off without a hitch and that everything about the day was all we could have hoped for and more. From the start, they were incredibly helpful, accommodating, patient, kind, understanding and genuinely down-to-earth and it was clear that they always had our best interests in mind throughout the planning process. Their attention to detail and professionalism did not go unnoticed by our guests who had nothing but wonderful things to say about Raelin and the rest of the team who acted as our day of coordinators. I would HIGHLY recommend Melissa and her team because our big day was absolutely perfect thanks to her, Raelin and the day-of dream squad!

I cannot say enough good things about the Knot Too Shabby Team! My wife and I met Melissa back in 2015 when we hired her for our May 2016 wedding. Now, I know this review is coming really late as I normally do not write reviews... However, this is well deserved!
Sara and I had been researching gay friendly venues and vendors after reading horror stories of people refusing services to LGBT couples. Melissa was actually the coordinator for our venue at the time and I believe she was also doing Knot Too Shabby. We were a little nervous about the initial meeting considering there was still a lot of controversy about same sex marriage. Melissa completely put our minds at ease! I knew from that day she would be ninja jumping the railings after anyone who tried to disrupt our day :D
Now, I will admit I didn't want to spend the extra money on a planner since we were already on a pretty tight budget but I'm so thankful that I did!! The KTS team went above and beyond. They kept me organized, sane, and reminded me of all the small things that people tend to forget. Day of wedding I dropped everything off at the venue and let everyone do the decorating for me. IT WAS PERFECT! It should be noted that I did have some mishaps but Melissa was quick to the rescue. 1. One of my bridesmaids dresses ripped before the ceremony (We sewed that thing back on and I had a drink poured and waiting on me) 2. I forgot the MOH's special beer (She only drinks one kind and she is the MOH after all..Melissa left the reception to go pick it up) 3. Last minute pricing issues with a caterer (She handled that one too)
Not once did we feel like we were treated different for being a part of the LGBT community. You could tell the KTS team was genuinely happy for us and it was special to my wife and I to be surrounded by such and amazing and talented team. If you're looking for a coordinator I whole heartily recommend KTS!!! Bonus: She may even take you to a beer festival ;)

Melissa and her team were amazing for our month of planning service! Her attention to detail is remarkable and she will make your wedding day/evening flawless! All of her pre-wedding documents keep me organized and after meeting with her a month out, I knew I made one of the best decisions to hire her! She was able to execute my vision and our wedding was beautiful! I was not stressed at all the day of our wedding, as I knew Melissa would handle any hurdles. The venue looked beautiful, her and her team quickly accommodated any of our needs/requests, they coordinated off the other vendors, and the night was perfect! We had the pleasure of working with Raelin at Knot Too Shabby Events! She was amazing in helping use through the last month of planning leading up to our wedding, from driving down to Ocean Isle to meet the venue event planner, to reminding of my homework items, and assembling/decorating a cheese wheel wedding cake. The greatest complement I can give her and her team is that the next day my husband and I realized we had zero idea if anything went wrong or as not as planned! We would hands down recommend her, absolutely made for stress free and enjoyable wedding day!!

Melissa is AMAZING! She was absolutely crucial to the planning/execution of our day. We were planning a wedding in south eastern NC from our current home in Michigan, which poses it’s own set of unique problems. For this reason we did the full-service package that Knot Too Shabby offers, so Melissa was with us every step of the way! She helped us decide on a theme/vision, and then assisted us in finding and hiring vendors to make that vision a reality. And the day turned out absolutely perfect; even better than we ever could have hoped for. Not only did she help with the planning, but she was a constant contact for the vendors, and her (and her team’s) coordination of vendors and work on the day of was PRICELESS. We truly cannot imagine what our day would have been like without her. Because of her and her team’s work, we were able to be simply present and embraced by the love shared by each other and our loved ones on our wedding day. From our first meeting to the day I married the love of my life, Melissa and her team definitely made the wedding planning process stress free, and everything ran so smoothly. I am so blessed to have had her as our wedding planner, and to have used the partial planning package. She made our dreams a reality and our wedding was exactly what we wanted. Everything was beautiful and we received so many compliments on our river-side wedding and it was all because Melissa and her team put everything together perfectly. The Knot Too Shabby crew knocked it out of the park with our morning beach wedding. Working with Melissa and her team with the month of services was one of the best decisions we made...runner up to Brian and I marrying each other! :) The ability to turn a wet rainy morning into a beautiful sunny reception was not something I though could happen. However, the professionalism and communication that Melissa and her team had on our morning was outstanding and the key aspect of making our transitions due to weather happen. She was able to get family and guests to quickly and happily help with quick decisions without everything looking like a cluster. Her positive demeanor and determination radiated putting everyone else at ease during quick transitions due to weather. Without a doubt, without Knot Too Shabby, our dream of a casual no stress wedding morning would not have happened. We cannot express how thankful we were to have our wedding in the hands of Melissa and her team. From the very beginning Melissa was more like a friend who held my hand throughout the entire process and that last month she answered every single email and phone call IMMEDIATELY and offered relief, sound advice and calmed us. I know she works with so many couples, but she managed to make us feel like we were the only ones and top priority. She was not only extremely knowledgeable about the city of Wilmington but knows all of the vendors there. She worked with us diligently on who would best fit our needs and with her guidance we saved SO much time and money, which allowed us to shift our focus on other matters, like everyday life that still goes on while planning a wedding. After we chose what vendors we wanted to work with, she kept track of all that for us, we still don't know what magic she has to manage that, but she does it without breaking a sweat. I had a vision of how I wanted our wedding day to be and she brought that vision to life. She was there to make sure each item was delivered, she dealt with any little hiccups that came up, made sure every detail was thoughtfully placed and that our wedding was simply beautiful. Our guests are still telling us how gorgeous everything was, how seamless the day went and how everything just flowed naturally. We also got a million compliments on Melissa from our guests. Everyone loved her and noticed all of the hard work and time she put into making our wedding day exactly as we imagined it.
To word it more simply, KTSE's made it possible for us to let go of the wedding-related stress and enjoy our wedding day with our family and friends. We can't thank you enough for all that you have done for us.

When we decided to get married on Bald Head Island, I knew that I needed to find a wedding coordinator who could help us plan our wedding, especially since we were doing everything from VA. Hiring Melissa was one of the best decisions we made! From our first phone call and through our wedding day, Melissa was organized, helpful and professional. We hired Melissa for the "month of package" but she went above and beyond what was expected of her. She was so helpful in tying together all of my ideas and understood exactly how I was looking for everything to go. Melissa helped coordinate local vendors for rentals, and kept us all on schedule. I am someone that has a passion for event planning, but I knew that on my wedding day I would want someone to take charge and make everything come together. Melissa did exactly that! The morning of the wedding, Melissa and her team took all of the decor and DIY projects, and set up our ceremony and reception venues even more beautifully than I could have imagined! The logistics of coordinating a wedding on a remote island with golf cart transportation only could be difficult, but Melissa made everything go smoothly and it was flawless! A year later, and guests are still talking about how much they enjoyed it! You always hear brides talk about how at least one thing always goes wrong at the wedding, but we woke up the morning after the wedding and couldn't think of one detail that was missed or one thing we would change. I would say that we have Melissa and the Knot Too Shabby team to thank for that!

Melissa and her team literally made our wedding what it was. From the very beginning she was extremely hands on, helpful, and attentive, despite only being our "month of" coordinator. She has a way of streamlining the process of wedding planning so that it is stress free and SO much fun! She always came to meetings with a game plan and any suggestions I may have needed, and was so helpful when I got stuck on something I wasn't quite sure how to pull off. Our wedding ended up being so beautiful and organized beyond my expectations. I literally gave them a pile of stuff to decorate with and what they did with everything was so creative and beautiful! The timeline was so streamlined and natural, everyone knew exactly where to be and when in a way that didn't seem at all rushed or scattered. We ended up being able to enjoy every second of it instead of worrying about the logistics. Melissa is so passionate and talented about the work that she does and it really shows through in the final product. She made our wedding day absolutely perfect and if you are on the fence about booking even a day-of coordinator (& trust me you NEED one) she is hands down the best decision you will make!

Melissa Burton and Knot Too Shabby Events(KTSE) are TOP notch to say the LEAST!! If it were not for Melissa and KTSE my wedding would NOT have been possible!!!! My husband and I got married at Airlie Gardens and the venue required we hire a day of wedding coordinator for our wedding. I did some research online for wedding/event coordinators and came upon KTSE. I was IMMEDIATELY impressed with her website and creative business name and I reached out regarding availability for services for our wedding day. NOT even 4 hours later, I had a response in my inbox from Melissa herself! We set up a sit down meeting and she had me asked me to fill out a details sheet online document about my wedding (set up, wedding style, vendors, etc) prior to our meeting which was extremely thorough.
At our sit down meeting, I was impressed-- yet again-- with her professionalism, organization, and attention to detail. She had reviewed my detail sheet and was very informed on what I was looking for in our wedding and also what we were looking for in a coordinator. Melissa explained the services included in her "month of" package which was PERFECT for us and extremely helpful because the 30 days prior to your wedding is CRAZY and every couple needs help-- whether you believe it or not! The contract logistics and payment process with them was definitely one of the easiest out of all of our 12 wedding vendors!
During the time leading up to the wedding, Melissa was ALWAYS responsive and helpful. If I needed anything she was ALWAYS there and always SUPER quick to respond! Our rehearsal and wedding day went of without a hitch! We had a TON of moving parts for our wedding and Melissa and her team made the process SEAMLESS!! Her organization and communication was ALWAYS way above par!!
If you are a bride, groom, or couple who thinks they can do it all...guess what-- you can't! Stop what you are doing right now and contact KTSE-- you will be SO glad you did!!

Let me tell you a little about my experience with Knot Too Shabby... Hands down, Melissa and her whole team were the best decision I made for the whole wedding. They were AMAZING! I can't praise them enough. They were punctual, listened to all of my concerns and desires, took a LOT of stress off of my shoulders for the whole "month of" that they were mine, and made my wedding seamless! My wedding night went smoothly and flawlessly. Not one hiccup, not one problem, not one disaster. Nothing! And that is wonderful to be able to say because there are tons of wedding horror stories out there. I truly believe that is because Melissa and her team were there taking care of every small detail. Melissa was on top of everything! Melissa and her team took all of my planning, tears, and hard work and brought my whole vision to life the night of our wedding. She was so easy to work with, always returned my calls, and went above and beyond. I didn't even direct them to use my ceremony decor during the reception, but they came up with creative uses that looked beautiful! Rule #1 of wedding planning: Hire a wedding planner/coordinator! Melissa was recommended to me from several people. I booked the "month of" package with her. Totally and 100% worth it! She has found her calling with event planning! She was super nice, professional and completely on top of her game! She thought of things that I never would have considered on my own. Melissa was an absolute godsend. I was in charge of throwing a 120 person rehearsal dinner for my brother and his wife in Wrightsville Beach. Living in New York I had no way of organizing such a big event with only a month's notice From day one, Melissa was calm, intelligent, organized, available, and no request was too great or too small. She and her extremely professional team planned an extraordinary night -- they organized everything from the flowers, linens, lighting, caterers, a terrific band, and several personal touches like framed photos from my brother's childhood. Even a last minute sudden venue change due to unusually cold weather didn't rattle her -- she and her team helped re-design the whole party layout in another building, and even found heat lamps with about six hours notice that arrived right on time. People who were familiar with the venue said they had never seen it look so beautiful. It was a night we will never forget. Most importantly, she made what could have been a stressful weekend a total joy.

Melissa was amazing! She is friendly and easy to work with, and she listens to your ideas and what you want. She was very accessible so I could always count on hearing from her when I had questions or concerns. The day of the wedding and reception went so smoothly that I didn't notice any problems come up at all, which means she did her job! :) I also asked her to decorate the space with the supplies I provided. I had a general idea of what I wanted the space to look like, but asked her to just

I cannot say enough about how vital Melissa was to the wonderful success of the most amazing day I have ever had! Every single detail she had covered even when I changed plans more than a few times. I have never been more relaxed than I was on the day of my wedding because I knew that my wedding planner had everything under control. We were married at the River Room in downtown Wilmington, NC and had our ceremony and reception at the same location. Although we tried to make things as simple as possible it was still a lot to do. We hired Melissa for the month of package and this covered all of our needs since I was doing a lot of the planning by myself but the last minute details I didn't even think about the month before the wedding Melissa covered them all.
On the day of the wedding my MOH and I dropped off all of our decor and lists of where things went and when I came back in to our reception area the place took my breath away, it was SO much more than I had imagined and seeing it all come together so beautifully was worth more than what I paid for the service. The location had an awesome chalkboard bar that was so cool and in our rush, my MOH and I had scribbled the bar menu down on the chalkboard quickly and it looked junky, when I returned for our wedding it looked so much better and I was so glad they fixed our scribbles. When my maids and I were lining up my junior bridesmaid that was a last minute addition to the wedding party didn't have a bouquet and without hesitation my amazing wedding planner stepped in and gathered together a cute little arrangement from some flowers that were just laying around.
Our wedding went off without a hitch and I owe it all to Melissa. She was worth SO much more than what we paid and I am beyond thankful for everything that she did for us on our wedding day. If you hire Melissa you will not regret it and your wedding is guaranteed to be more than you ever dreamed of!

I was on the fence about getting a wedding coordinator but I'm so glad I did! We had an 90 person wedding at a beach house on Topsail Island. I'm a very low maintenance and low stress person so I was unsure if bringing in someone would be overbearing and more stressful. We worked with Knot Too Shabby Events (month of coordination) and everything went really well. Again, I'm so glad they were there. We planned most of our wedding ourselves and KTSE helped us execute our vision with ease and no stress. Melissa is wonderful to work with. Very easy going but detail oriented, organized and capable. Her team is awesome too! Hard working and very nice. I highly recommend them!

I told Melissa from our first phone conversation that my main goal was to have fun at my wedding. I plan events during the year, so I just wanted to show up relaxed instead of working hard at my own wedding. Melissa and her team made every step of the wedding flawless and easy. We live in a different state, so Melissa's knowledge of the vendors and the town were crucial. I cannot stress enough how professional her whole team was during the day of my wedding and how professional Melissa was while we were in the planning stages. We found Melissa online since we didn't know anyone in Wilmington and decided to talk to her mainly because her prices were right on her website. Thank goodness we booked her! She was a dream to work with and kept us both calm and happy in the planning stages as well as relaxed on the day of our wedding. I literally did not stress at all because I knew Melissa was going to handle it. The vendors she pointed us towards were incredible. People are still talking about the food, and we hardly had any leftovers. I am in love with my wedding photos, and the venue looked perfect because of the vendor Melissa recommended. Melissa was incredible. She is full of advise and ideas. She took the little bit I gave to her and ran with it. I walked in the morning of my bridesmaid brunch and was in complete shock over how beautiful she made the room look. After leaving to enjoy the day with my bridal party and returning for the rehearsal dinner Melissa had done it again. The room was transformed into the perfect atmosphere for us all to enjoy a beautiful relaxing evening together. All the vendors were coordinated without me having to make one phone call. I never even had to clean up a mess or pack a box up after either event. Melissa took care of everything including my bridal nerves! She is well worth the investment and in my opinion underpaid! It shows in her work and planning that she is experienced and loves what she is doing.

Melissa, of Knot too Shabby, was absolutely amazing! She has defined balance. The balance between guiding and directing to listening and envisioning. End result and absolutely breath taking day! Our planning took place from four hours away, which was far more challenging logistically than I'd thought, though I think that's a great way to describe how the entire wedding planning process was to me...challenging. There were far more details than I'd ever imagined. Melissa kept me sane and grounded through out the process. She was always quick with emails when I needed opinions or had thoughts. She was a tremendous help with reviewing and finalizing our rental and libation order. She was flexible each time we planned our monthly wedding planning trips to line up vendors etc... She was able to be candid and professional with her thoughts, and she really knows her business. The other thing I noticed was she has a lot of respect through out the Wilmington vendors. Ultimately Melissa set up every detail with amazing attention and thoroughness. I tell you, I think for Melissa setting up and carrying out events is a true labor of love! I'm truly touched when I remember the feeling when I saw how beautiful the venue was on my wedding day....that day that seemed so far away! It was a dream. Melisa is the one who put my mind at ease the day of my wedding. She met with me several times to learn who I was, and what expectations I had for my reception. One evening when my boyfriend and I were walking down town Wilmington, we stopped at a window at the River Room, admiring in awe of the wedding that was taking place. The raw beauty of the building and location captivated me. My first thought was, "We could never afford anywhere like this!". Being the planner I am, my curiosity got the best of me. Weeks later I stopped in at the River Room, which is when I met Melissa. She took the time to discuss vendors and prices with us, and answered any questions we had. We quickly discovered that the River Room was affordable, and would come with an amazing planner. Less than a year later, we were engaged, and the next day we signed with the River Room and Melissa! Upon signing with her, she referred me vendors that were approved for the River Room. We chose our D.J., makeup artist, florist, and caterer, all upon her recommendation. I met with Melissa a few times, and we exchanged emails through out the year as we continued to plan our dream reception. I did not get to see the reception venue decorated before our entrance that evening as the new Mr. and Mrs., but looking back, I'm glad I didn't. It was such a surprise for my husband and I, and exceeded our expectations greater than anything we could have imagined. Any bride would be blessed to have Melissa and Knott Too Shabby Events coordinate their wedding. As hard as it may be ladies, give up the control and allow Melissa to do her thing! I can promise you- you won't regret it!

If I could give Melissa with Knot Too Shabby Events 20 stars I would. Besides choosing to marry my groom, Melissa was the best decision I made with my wedding. She understood from the start what we wanted, what our vision was and steered us in the right direction each and every time. I hired Melissa as my day of coordinator last weekend for an engagement party that was actually a surprise wedding! It was something that was planned in a matter of weeks, so you can imagine how stressful the weeks prior to the event were.
I'm having a hard time articulating how amazing Melissa is as a wedding planner. She is the perfect example of someone who has truly found her calling in life! Aside from my husband, she was the very BEST decision I made in my wedding planning. She was so responsive, and easy to communicate with. She ALWAYS knew exactly what to say to ease my worries and concerns, and she saw that my day went PERFECT and so smooth. I had several guests comment on how wonderful she was. My wedding day was so hectic at times and all I had to say was "ask Melissa..." or "Please get Melissa" and she was there. It's a wonder how that woman can be in so many places at once.
I can't say enough wonderful things about her. I have tears in my eyes trying to wrap my head about how much I appreciate her being there. THANK YOU MELISSA! For everything you did, we couldn't have done it without you.
