Frequently Asked Questions for Photography
Do you offer special techniques such as hand-coloring or toning?
I can provide all kinds of different special techniques with my editing. I can convert to B&W, sepia, custom coloring, selective coloring (when one item is in color and the rest is B&W), changing the backgroud, deleting out your drunk uncle Bob that might have "ruined" that otherwise perfect shot. Just ask me, and I'll do my best to bring you what you want!

Do you have experience shooting in various lighting situations?
I have dealt with all kinds of tricky lighting. Anywhere from a dark church with little or no flash allowed, overcast days, super sunny days with direct sunlight, to shooting an outside venue at night.

Is your media preference film or digital?
I shoot only in digital.

How many photographers do you work with?
I always provide at least one other photographer, no matter how small your wedding is

Do you guarantee your presence at the actual event?
Yes. Wilson Photography is not a huge company that hires out photographers. I am the one who will be shooting your wedding.

Do you sometimes book yourself for more than one event in a day? Weekend?
No. If I have a wedding booked on Saturday the 15th, that is the only wedding that I will work. I may, however, book one on Saturday and one on Sunday. But as far as your wedding day goes, yours is the ONLY one I will be focused on that day!

Do you have a replacement photographer in case you become unavailable on the day of the event?
Yes, I have a few photographers that I know that can replace me if need be, and I stand by their work 100%!

What kind of equipment do you typically bring with you on the day-of?
My camera, my 2nd photographer's camera, a back up camera, 3 external flashes, many lenses, tripods, diffusers, a step stool, lots of memory cards and lots of batteries!

Do you bring back-up equipment to the event in case of malfunction?
Yes, I always have a back up!

Do you charge hourly or full day?
I have a set charge depending on which package is chosen. Any overtime is $100 per hour

What is your policy on taking breaks? If you require a meal break, do you require that the client provide your meal?
Generally, 1-2, but I always have a second photographer, so if I am taking a 5 min break, he takes over for me, and vice versa.

Do you charge for travel?
Anywhere past Riverside, San Bernardino, Orange, or Los Angeles counties, I charge a small travel fee. If I am booked out of state, or anything that requires me to rely on air transportation, client is responsible for flight and accomodation costs.

How soon after the event are the proofs ready for viewing?
Within 3-8 weeks, depending on the time of year, I will provide the client with a high resolution photo CD of all of their weddings photos. During the time in between, I will send the clients "sneak peeks" of their photos as I edit them.

In what format are the initial proofs offered?
Onto a photo CD

How long can the client keep the proofs?
I believe that these are the couple's photos. I do not provide proofs and then charge extra for the photo cd. All couples get their photos on a CD with all copyrights.

Do you retain the copyright for the photos?
No, they're YOUR photos... I believe you should be able to do what you want with them.

Do you reserve the right to publish the photos?
Yes, I do have a "model release" clause in my contract that stipulates that I am allowed to use any of the photos for advertisement or any kind of publishing.

Will images be available for viewing online?
Yes, all of my clients get a private online viewing gallery with all of their photos from their wedding day.

What kind of albums do you offer?
I offer a 20 page album with inlaid photos that tells the story of the day. Client can add more pages if they wish or upgrade their album. Please see me for more details.

When will the client get the final album?
Within 2 months after the wedding date. This, of course, depends on how soon the bride gets back to me with her chosen photos.

Tips and Advice
I'm married, so I've been there.  Planning a wedding can be very hectic, but the most important thing to remember in all of this is to sit back and enjoy it!!  Try not to control every little thing, and most of the time, things will fall into place.  When I got married, I actually enjoyed the "planning" part almost more than the actual wedding!  Be creative, find ways to incorporate your family and friends into the planning process so that you can have fun with it all together.  DON'T, however,  forget that these are your "friends and family" and not your employees!  Laugh at the Bridezillas.... don't become one! :)
Make sure that you explore all of your options when searching for vendors.  Price is important.... don't let yourself be "taken".... especially in this economy!
Always meet your vendors in person.  Make sure that you get along with them.  This is key to making a wedding day go as smoothly as possible.  If you do not have a good repore with your vendor, things can get ugly, uncomfortable and can possibly ruin an entire wedding day (believe me, I've seen it).
This is a key factor when booking a photographer...... so what if your caterer and you don't see eye to eye... the food will still be food, but if you and your photographer don't get along, you will see it in the end result:  your photos.  You MUST feel comfortable with your photographer, because if you don't you will look stiff and uncomfortable in your shots.  Just imagine if your friend was photographing your wedding.... you know you would have no problem showing your true colors in front of the lens.... you would have no problem letting emotions out and having a great time.  These are moments that need to be captured so that you can remember that exact emotion 20 years from now by looking at your pictures.  This is why you MUST like your photographer.  I had a lot of friends before I starting shooting weddings..... now I have A LOT more :)
All in all, enjoy this time, because it only happens once (let's hope, lol), and it goes by so fast!  Take in every moment.  Take a camera to each vendor that you meet so that you can remember everything that went along with planning this special day.  Oh, and most importantly, take atleast 1-2 minutes on your wedding day, maybe when you are at the head table looking on over your creation, and take a mental picture.  Remember your details, your friends, your family, and your emotions at that very moment..... because no one can take that away from you.  Congratulations and good luck with all of your planning!
