About

So  your engaged!   Congrats!

My name is Janice and I am the owner of "OnLocationHouston.com".  My style is definitely "photojournalistic".

I enjoy documenting your day as if I am telling the story of your wedding. I shoot an unlimited  quantity of photos, all coming with the DVD for you to print as you please with a copyright release included. I use a very high resolution professional camera, and my preference is natural lighting as much as possible. I always bring a second shooter and backup equiptment.

I have had a camera in my hand since the age of 12. I was always  trying to create interesting scenarios with my 5 little brothers and sisters to shoot from a very early age. I was intrigued with the camera.  As I grew older and married my husband Scott, my children entered the world of modeling/acting at a young age and were always needing updated headshots and comp cards. Out of neccessity, I ended up shooting them myself and it worked. Agents always loved the layout and compositions of their cards.

I shot my first wedding 20 years ago. I am very sensitive and am always constantly scanning for any and everything I find interesting to capture at any event. I was once told, "I can always see your mind thinking away".  :)  And it’s true. I love this business!
Our family has been in Houston for 25 years except for the  short times we were in NY and LA and a short move to Denver and Florida. We definitely call Houston home.
On Location Houston is dedicated to bringing you the very best. I do not use a studio or fake backdrops. Everything I do is On Location.
Feel free to give us a call. We provide a fun and friendly atmosphere and are prices are very reasonable.   Feel free to call me and let’s chat .

Kind regards :) ,

Frequently Asked Questions
How would you identify your photographic style?
Definitely photo journalistic with some traditional.
Do you offer special techniques such as hand-coloring or toning?
Sepia, b/w and colorization. We also do the metallic and pearlescent papers and prints.
Do you have experience shooting in various lighting situations?
All lighting situations. And as far as flash, I prefer to use natural light whenever possible.
Is your media preference film or digital?
Digital
How many photographers do you work with?
5
Do you guarantee your presence at the actual event?
Yes, unless I actually booked 2 in one day and that is highly unusual. I develop relationships with my brides and I very much WANT to be there and have my hands all over it.It's personal to me as well.
Do you sometimes book yourself for more than one wedding in a day? Weekend?
Rarely. I have one coming up that I had to do as a favor, but 99.99 this never happens.
Do you have a replacement photographer in case you become unavailable on the wedding day?
Absolutely.
What kind of equipment do you typically bring with you on the day-of?
Lots and lots. Backups on everything.
Do you bring back-up equipment to the event in case of malfunction?
YES
Do you charge hourly or full day?
Both.. there is a minimum on hourly though. Three hours.
If hourly, are you available for shooting overtime? If so, how much do you charge for overtime?
Yes. $100.00 an hour over time.
Do you require a meal break? If yes, do you require that the wedding party provide your meal?
No, I do not "require", but it's nice to have one to stay fresh and alert!. This is very physically demanding and any photographer will tell you they are human and need a break and a quick bite. So, I appreciate whenever offered.I find my work improves after a break if I am exhausted.
How many breaks do you usually take throughout the day?
I hardly ever take one. But if I do, they are very short.
Do you charge for travel?
Yes, in most cases.
How soon after the event are the proofs ready for viewing?
I ask for 3 to 4 weeks. usually sooner though.
In what format are the initial proofs offered?
Web site and CD/DVD
How long can the couple keep the proofs?
Forever
Do you retain the copyright for the photos?
yes, for my website only.
Do you reserve the right to publish the photos?
yes
Do you provide the digital files and/or negatives (or copies of the negatives) to the couple?
yes
Will images be available for viewing on an online gallery?
yes
What kind of albums do you offer?
Hard copy customized glossy cover and Graphi Studio.
When will I get the final book?
2 months after wedding if all goes as planned.
How long does it take to deliver a book?
not long once it is put together.

Tips and Advice

I always ask my brides and their mom to make a shot list for me. I ask that any pairings such as divorced parents who do not want to be put together be noted or any other uncomfortable situations so that hurt feelings may be avoided.

It is always nice to get as many of the family shots out of the way beforehand if possible providing  time and weather permit. Usually renders more time at the reception :)

I shoot unlimited shots, but I do not know all of the people in your family or your friends, so I ask that you please pull me aside and let me know when you want a photo op with someone.
