Tips and Advice
Engagement: Dress as you would on a date. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes. If possible, avoid prints or plaids, or colors that clash with your fiancé. Ladies should try to wear non-smearing long wear lipstick whenever possible. Please bring a hairbrush, and make-up bag if possible in case we need to darken your make-up for the camera. However, it is recommended that you start out with makeup as your naturally apply it. Engagement photos should show your fun-loving side. Normally we shoot these photos fairly candid and artistically, but we will also take some posed shots for use in the newspaper.

Bridals: Bridals are the “glam” shots of your wedding documentary. These are meant to show you at your most glowing and beautiful. If possible, it is recommended that you have your hair professionally styled, and have help with your make-up application. If you need a recommendation, please don't hesitate to call. We know of several outstanding hair and make up people at reasonable prices. Please come to your bridal shoot already bustled. Wear tennis shoes for comfort, under your dress. In most shots, we will not see your feet. However, bring your wedding shoes, or another pair of dressy shoes to use in the shots that might need them. Bring your veil, tiara, and gloves if you have them, as well as any other jewelry you might wear on your wedding day. Bringing a friend of family member to this shoot is recommended.

Two other things you will need are a plain inexpensive bed sheet in the approximate color of your gown, and a bouquet of some sort. The bouquet does not have to resemble the actually wedding day bouquet and can be something as simple as a bunch of daisies purchased at your local grocery story. Please try to avoid silk flowers as the cameras we use are very accurate and silk flowers simply don’t pass the “muster”.

Also be sure to bring a make-up mirror, brush, and make-up bag. Depending on the sunlight, you may have to adjust your make-up for the camera.

Also keep in mind, depending on the dress material, you may need your dress pressed after the shoot.

Wedding: This is where you get to “lighten-up”. Weddings are shot in a strictly documentary Photojournalist style, so being yourself and enjoying your day is what is required here. We will have a small session of formal photography, but in most cases it is asked that you and your wedding party totally ignore the cameras. We understand that it will be hard at first, but try not to look and smile into the camera unless asked to. We will try to be as unobtrusive as possible. Outside of the short session of formal photography, we will never attempt to pose you. Our photography is meant simply to record your day as it happens. We feel it is important to record it in real emotions, and expressions instead of a series of posed photographs. Be aware that we will be with both parties as they prepare for the ceremony. These are often the bride and groom’s favorite photos. If you are uncomfortable with having shots taken while you prepare, please let us know and we will find other things to photograph in the meantime.
