4 Nov, 2018The story of our wedding
Kyle and I have known each other since we were very young. We met through mutual friends and we lived in the same neighborhood. We were just kids, so I can't say it was love at first sight, but as we came of age the attraction started to form until one night at the midnight Twilight Saga premier. A premier in which meant, if we went, that we could skip school the following day. We were the last to sit down, so by coincidence, we had sat next to each other. We began talking and catching up, and there was this strange connection between us. Conversation came naturally and we were very comfortable with each other. Due to having mutual friends, living in the same neighborhood, and going to the same high school we ended up spending a lot of time with one another. By high school, we had become best friends and talked to each other almost daily. We tried dating here and there but we were too young to know what we had at the time, so it didn't last then. We argued and avoided and generally just stirred up a bunch of drama but no matter who else we dated, our connection with each other wouldn't go away. Once high school was over we decided to risk our friendship and give it another shot. From then on out it's been almost magical. We're still the best of friends and each other’s biggest supporters. We both got through college together and worked our first jobs in the same industry. Once we moved in together things started to get serious. We asked the tough questions, he wanted to know what type of rings I liked, we raised a puppy together, he had to leave for a month for work so we had to go through the misery of long distance. And then one afternoon he tricked me into thinking we were getting pictures taken for my 21st birthday present at her grandparents’ farm. He picked a beautiful spot in front of the fountain and proposed just as the sun turned the whole place golden. We celebrated the rest of the night with our families and then he took her to The Melting Pot for dessert in the same booth where we had our first date. Needless to say, I was a bit skeptical when the "photographer" had a microphone on her camera, turned out she was also the videographer for the proposal just like I wanted. Our wedding planning process was a fairly good experience. Right off the bat we knew we needed a planner and we knew we would have to spend big on her because keeping my mom in line would be no easy task. Tanya with Southern Charm Wedding and Events quickly became our “Wedding Mama” as well as our quarterback for our All-Star team of vendors. She gave us some of the best options to pick from, got us to the meetings, and generally made the process of finding each vendor take a fraction of the time. We briefly had some interest from the show Bridezillas but Tanya shot that down real quick. It would have been fun, but she was right, I did not need any added stress of some crew trying to stir up drama for TV. The wedding itself was magical. Our ceremony site was my grandparents 100-acre farm, but our rain plan had us deciding on whether to move it to the reception venue, The Manor at 12 Oaks, just mere hours before the ceremony was to start. It ended up raining at the reception venue and not the ceremony site 30 minutes away, so we were able to have it exactly where we wanted it which was so special to me because I grew up on that farm and Kyle and I also spent a lot of our time there throughout our relationship. It was overcast instead of golden like the engagement but at least we were still there, and the photographers said it made taking pictures very easy. Our ceremony was brief but filled with so much love and laughter. I took the time to hand select exactly what I wanted the reverend to say and it worked out beautifully. One of our flower girls went rouge and I made the awful mistake of giving them noisy metal buckets but other than that it went off without a hitch. Even my big “Dog of Honor” pit-bull behaved himself like the perfect gentleman and didn’t decide to use the restroom during his walk down the aisle like he did in rehearsal. We ended ahead of schedule and had lots of extra time for picturesThe cocktail hour and reception were at The Manor at 12 Oaks, a brand-new renovation plantation style home to which we had the honor of being the first bride and groom to have their reception there. The place looked stunning, we made the call a couple days before to go ahead and rent a tent, so Tanya had to redo the entire floorplan to accommodate but the tent made it even more gorgeous than we had ever imagined. We got there early so we were able to mingle during the cocktail hour and have time to practice our choreographed dance before the reception. Practice made almost perfect and neither one of us tripped during the first dance. The food was great, BarBQ from a restaurant in the family, and my Maid of Honor who is also my half-sister that I didn’t get to spend nearly enough time with, melted everyone’s faces with her speech…including mine. I didn’t even cry when I saw Kyle waiting for me at the end of the aisle for goodness sakes! Anyway, the night was so fun everyone had a great time, and we faked a sparkler send off, so we could circle around to the back of the venue and sit in the vendor quarters eating cake in sweat pants. That really may be one of my top highlights of the day. It was our first real alone time and we felt just like kids again, hiding and eating cake. A perfect ending to a perfect day.Feel free to change any of the wording around or ask me to rewrite some parts in a better format. I was always the math and science girl in school so writing has never been my strong suit. Ill add some pictures from the wedding. We also had pictures and video of the engagement as well as more from the wedding. Just let me know and I can provide more. Thanks for the consideration!
