25 Sep, 2021The story of our wedding
Our wedding was on 09-25-2021 at Village by the Sea in Wells, Maine.
My husband and I are college sweethearts. We met through a mutual friend on a double date. We were both hesitant to go out with someone we didn’t know, but the rest as they say was history. Alex proposed on the beach in Aruba during our 5-year anniversary cruise just as the sun was setting. He was so nervous all he could get out was “will you marry me?”. It was truly a magical and out-of-body experience.
We chose to get married in Wells, ME as we wanted to be near the ocean as reminiscence of where Alex proposed. Wells also holds a lot of significant memories as my grandparents lived there for many years and I spent a lot of time there as a child.
Everything was smooth planning wise up until the week of the wedding. Literally everything that could be going wrong was, including a predicted forecast of thunderstorms. It was honestly some of the most stressful days I’ve ever encountered in my life. My cousin who is a professional hairstylist, and who was doing my hair and make up for the wedding, tried to put me at ease by telling me that in the past 10 years of doing weddings all of them had one thing in common, they all came together in the end. And as luck would have it………..she was right! The morning of the wedding everything started falling into place. The forecast still called for rain, and yet we awoke to sunny skies and wouldn’t you know the rain held off all day! We could not be more grateful for how it all played out and to everyone who helped make it happen. It was a day filled with love. Some of my favorite moments from the day included Alex’s reaction to the Groom’s gift I gave him (a pin with a picture of his late father and the words “walk with me today, dad?”), and Alex’s reaction to seeing me in my wedding dress for the first time during our first look. We also did a Generation dance were all the married couples joined together on the dance floor where my great aunt and uncle were the last couple dancing, having been happily married for 55 wonderful years! I loved seeing everyone’s faces, as friends and family gathered together for the first time since the pandemic began, many of whom had not seen each other in many years. We also hired a caricaturist as a fun alternative to the traditional photo both. She was wonderful and did a terrific job. Everyone had a blast getting their caricatures done. It then became a night full of laughter, dance battles, Conga lines, Limbo with tied together neck ties, sing-alongs, late-night pizza, and one final dance circle to (“I’ve Had) The Time of My Life from Dirty Dancing. It was truly a night that we will never forget and will always hold near and dear to our hearts.
