Where to have my ceremony

Emily, on December 16, 2018 at 3:37 PM Posted in Massachusetts Planning 0 13
Hi all. I am planning a slightly unusual wedding. My fiancé and I are looking to have a small ceremony (super small.. just our parents are attending) followed by a sit down dinner held at a local restaurant where we will invite other friends and family to celebrate. The wedding date has been set and the restaurant chosen, but I still have no idea where the ceremony will take place. Neither of us are religious so churches are a no. We were considering getting married at city hall, but the idea of exchanging vows in a government building makes me feel claustrophobic. I would ideally like an outdoor ceremony. I live in central MA and am trying not to have the ceremony farther than 10 miles from downtown Worcester, where the “reception” will be. Any suggestions will be appreciated!

Are there any town parks you could use? A nice backyard?

Do you have local gardens? That would be beautiful. Or if you’re willing to consider another reception venue what about a hotel or restaurant with a beautiful courtyard for the ceremony and a private room for your reception?

Is there any room in the restaurant to have the ceremony? If itll be small maybe they will rent the back patio or another room for you to use. We're doing something similar and our venue let us use an extra room at no cost to us. I'm not familiar with your area, but I would think any park around would be nice and probably free, you could pick a spot and then just show up with your parents and officiant since itll be on the smaller side.

I’m in Worcester too! If you want to travel to the Sturbridge area, there is an cute dam that you can set up some chairs and do a ceremony. There’s also the village square in Southbridge and Sturbridge but it’s quite public there. I don’t know how private you are looking for it to be.

I'd look into gardens or parks, maybe a pretty patio of an arts building (like an opera house?) or a college?

We are having ours at a town plaza, between big nice, historic buildings and they have a gazebo and everything. Might check for that

Does your local courthouse have a pretty outdoor location? Maybe steps or a grassy area?

Hi Emily! Have you found an outdoor spot that you want to get married in? I like the idea of local parks or maybe a nice plaza. Smiley smile

I am in Worcester too! What time of year are you planning for? Would outdoors be appropriate?

We are doing the exact same wedding style! We decided on my parents backyard for the ceremony and then dinner with everyone at a Boston restaurant. If you don’t want to do the backyard, look for a small park or lake or pond nearby so you could have nice background set for pictures.
